Dude not many ppl go into as much detail and explanation as you do and I cant tell you how much it is appreciated. Good luck with your swap I cant wait to see when it's up and running and I'll be asking you questions for sure!
Great info. Your stock ECU didn't have the immobilizer plud. The R154 also came on the VVT-i 1JZ. Cd009 to JZ adapter manufacturers are plentiful euth SerialNine offering the best by far. Autosport Engineering is also another adapter manufacturer. The cheapest 5Speed option that's a bit stronger than the R154 js the aisin AR5 swap from a Chevrolet Colorado (transmission usually goes for 200-500$), adapters for thise are available from CPR Manufacturing. Collins adapters are the most expensive, most marketed but not the most liked.
Another option which is cheaper and as strong if not stronger than all the gearboxes that you mentioned is ZF S5D-310/320Z out of E36 BMW with 5 speed or 6 speed one out of E46. They both work through Collins adapter or couple other kits similar to Collins...
If u end up with a immobilized ecu just change the ic900 in the jzs ecu with ur is ic900 and wire the immobilizer port and it will work. I did it and it works
@@kingferg3456 theres 2 ways about doing it going to lexas for reprogamming or swapping out the immobilizer chip from your stock ecu into the new gte ecu which takes patience and a bit of skill to pull off

Actually W58 isn't stronger than latest versions of W55-W57 with steel center plate (exists early versions with aluminium plate). You can easy distinguish them by rust on center plate. Rust means it's strong gearbox)) aluminium doesn't have any rust.

How did you blow the stock motor with a automatic transmission. All seriousness, I run a built is300 auto on nitrous sometimes for fun daily driver. I always worry about the rods. Looks like you thought a rod yet I see other spraying a 100 shot all day. If their was a specific thing that contributed to you catastrophic failure. Please let me know so I can address it. Thanks great video congrats on your build.
Yo you should upload more videos on this build . I fw the vibe , and the honesty. Plus im learning about the is300 platform. How difficult are these cars to work on ? Would you recommend this for a first car ?
Adrian Vargas thanks I appreciate that as for the 1st gen is300s being good first cars yes it’s a excellent first car. They sound beautiful, 4 doors , and lots of aftermarket however the drivetrain is very limited for boost applications. The stock ge can only hold 8 pounds and is VERY weak same with the manual transmission if you happen to find one for under 6k your only real long term RELIABLE option would be to swap 2jz gte in it or in my case 1jz gte. Basically to sum it up it’s a great first car however if you really wanna have some fun in it get ready to drop at least 3-4K in it for a swap
one was originally designed as a non turbo box and the other as a turbo box, they are completely different design internally with thicker input shaft and stronger bearings
Only need the top hose for the radiator .. the mishimoto intercooler is the same shit as CXRacing just double the price you paying for the name and the M..
Leo Lopez honestly not too sure if that chassis uses the same drivetrain as a is300 however if it uses the same rear subframe and driveshaft then it would at least be similar
I have a Toyota 1G-FE on altezza... basically same like is200....it's got the J160 manual 6 speed gearbox...would it work on the 1jz...thinking to do a swap for more power.
Doing a budget build 1jz swap right now, I currently already have a w55 trans. Is there anything I need to upgrade or change before I bolt the 1jz up to it?
Blake Weatherford if your talking transmission wise your stock bellhousing will work. Id start with a lightweight flywheel. I’ll leave it up to you if you wanna upgrade your clutch as that w55 is extremely weak ....
SXE10CHRIS the trans came in the car so I’d like to use it until it blows and then I’ll upgrade. Just wanted to make sure which flywheel and clutch to use when bolting the w55 up
everything looks great up until u say u have to cut the transmission tunnel Hold up .... anything that requires me to permanently damaging the body is a big no no for my , I guess I'll just do more research then
Just Phil yea honestly I didn’t mention those because they are great transmissions don’t get me wrong I just don’t think they would really fit the budget of a 1j swap
@@Chrisonboost yea i see what you mean. If you go used I believe you could make it comparable. Same with cd trans. Most used go for 600-1200. And as far as the general understanding, next to a newer revised r154, is a bullet proof transmission.

ETCS-I is the less desirable, you want the ETCS, ETCS-I uses ecu, pedal position sensor and some extra shit you don't want. ETCS IS WHAT YOU WANT NOT I
KingGoldChainz incorrect , for the is300 etcs-i is the way to go simply because Etcs-I uses drive by cable meaning there’s literally a cable that connects your gas pedal to the throttle body . For the money you could just rebuild the complete engine put a big turbo on it and just put a turbo 400 on it or the stall speed

Thank you very detailed planning to do a 1j swap on my IS
The Ar5 trans has also been used for 1j'2j swaps, swap kits an trans are pretty cheap from driftmotion.

Can you make a wiring video that's the only thing stopping be from running these streets
R154 came on the vvti 1jzgte. Mine came with it.

That’s what im here for brother ❤️
On your w58 trans, do you know where to get the plugs for the bell housing?
Drive by wire means its electrical. What your meaning to say is drive by cable!
On the is300 2j, it operated manually up to 40% or 45%. Then the rest is electricity engaged.
I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF I CAN USE 1G NON VVTI TRANSMISION (USED IN MARK 2 OLD MODEL)WITH 1G VVTI ENGINE (USED IN MARK 2 CHASER)
Hey man very gd content...real nice
r154 for cheap (LOL)
i've blown three of them (W58) with only 240kw 1jz
go the r154 and save yourself some ass
@parkerbethke you heard wrong, they are not as strong or even close for that matter
one was originally designed as a non turbo box and the other as a turbo box, they are completely different design internally with thicker input shaft and stronger bearings
One big question that is keeping me away from the swap is: passing state inspection. This is something that isn’t talked about....
TimiNator92 doing this swap tbh kiss that goodbye since im going auto to manual im gonna throw 10 transmission codes off the bat
Cud have just tap the hanger you have save you self that 180 would just run you $30 to tap the one you have
If u go auto, yeah um sorry! 😂😂😂
Not bad, the automatic can hold plenty of power, just not able to cut power to eheels on command.
Probably a dumb question.. but did you get a AT ECU ? Or use a MT ECU? And was it from a jzs171 as well? Toyota crown ?
Same ecu that came with the engine I went stand-alone however
what about an is200. how much is different?
Can you say about the mounts used for this swap? What is needed
You can use a Chevy 6spd way cheaper then the twin turbo 6spd
Great video 💪🏾
Only need the top hose for the radiator .. the mishimoto intercooler is the same shit as CXRacing just double the price you paying for the name and the M..
How did the 2jzge get blown? I thought they were bulletproof unless you snap the timing belt?
Bill Weaver they are 100% bulletproof I literally beat the shit out of this motor but it blew up because im pretty sure I ran it without oil
the ge VVTi comes with thinner connecting rods, non vvti have the same bottom end of the gte, or something out of a sc300 from 90's
adding power with that vvti gonna be sus
HOW TO USE TRANSMISSION USED IN OLD MODEL IN 1G VVTI
I’m assuming that this also correlates to any xx300 chasis for example an SC300? Yes, no?
Leo Lopez honestly not too sure if that chassis uses the same drivetrain as a is300 however if it uses the same rear subframe and driveshaft then it would at least be similar
