The F-35 isn’t a very good model and from what I’ve heard it barely has a complete cockpit. It might be done, but GS probably wouldn’t be in the F-35 for it
Super hilarious that the first 3 times you ejected you didn’t get any chute. I know it’s a horrible and horrifying way to go but in this case it was just too funny
I’m a huge fan of the F/A-18, so whenever I see it come up on this channel I’m usually a little bummed when it so often gets outshone by its other fourth generation colleagues in a dogfight (particularly against the F-16). Safe to say after this video and the last one against the J-35, I’m happy to see the Hornet still has its sting :) Great vid as always GS, keep up the great work!

Speaking of the East German MiG-29s, I read an interview with the first USAF pilot to fly the MiG-29. He was an exchange pilot to the Luftwaffe shortly after Reunification when they were integrating the 2 German armed forces. He said the MiG was like flying a big F-16 with some extra tricks. This was when NATO was learning about the HOBS capability of the AA-11 Archer, and was playing catch up. For sure the MiG has some tricks to play as a dogfighter that could catch enemies off guard, but it's very old tech, especially vs the Rhino.
What? Legacy Hornet had roll rates like 720/second! Ridiculously fast. Super hornet has more thrust, better control in high AOA (legacy had an issue with asymetric bomb loads - like if you dropped one - at high AOA it would go into a spin). Also, Super Hornet has significantly higher thrust to weight. With half a tank of gas more like 1.1:1 So it's a Hornet that not only can get slow, but theoretically get fast again. Also the front aspect RCS is roughly .2 M (the legacy about 2.0M)
The MiG-29 falls like a rock when it's critically hit so you really can't hesitate to eject when you're on the deck... or you end up eating the missile and the ground.
OMG! THE LIVERY! I just had to comment on this vid because the 2005 50th Anniversary Camo of the Diamondbacks is my all time favourite! The snake has never looked this good! And I got a model of it right here in my room!
In 2000, I used to play a mig29 simulator on an old Gateway PC out neighbor gave us. If I'd known then what you've taught me about defeating missiles, I have benn unstoppable. I played it from the f16 side too.
For me the MiG-29 is kind of an overall mix of an F-8 Crusader (short legs) and a legacy Hornet (modernized aerodynamics). If the late model Crusader was in DCS I'd request a dogfight between an early MiG-29 and the late model F-8.
Seeing a bit of a pattern here, US prox fuses explode significantly further away and get the kill, yet the Russians can scrap the paint and not explode 🤔
It's really funny how no one used to use differential thrust in dog fights before the new top gun movie, and then suddenly people realize it's actually viable.
There's an F-15 pilot on Quora or someplace that refers to it quite a bit. Seemed odd, I didn't think the Eagle's closely-spaced engines would have made much use out of the technique. But she said something about how pilots in the early days had to get comfortable with asymmetric thrust for tanking, before the KC-135s got re-engined. Throttle back on one and put the other in min afterburner, sort of like the B-1B has to do sometimes when loaded down.
The Super Hornet is not only stealthy in the front squad, but also has a reduced heat signature. That's why you couldn't hit it so easily with those archers.
10:22 - SPLAT! 😂😂🤦♂️ Keep your eye on about 40-50 feet out in front of his nose and you’ll see the pilots parachute and deploy and it and him disappear into the ether. 😊 😂 🤣
Great vid GS! Sorry but I had to root against you in this one. Absolutely love the Super Hornet. The other pilot did a fantastic job, you should have him on more often.
At least you won in the race to the deck... vs. your own plane.
This is the first time I've seen GS hitting the ground so many times while ejecting.
hehehehe.
"He's a little to close for missiles. Oh not he's not." 😅
Shit happens.
Famous Last Words
Well his last words were "alright eject. Oh where's the chute" (SPLAT)
1:55 He was indeed not too close for missiles
15:07 "Why do I hear a Hornet?" *Angry Hornet noises rapidly approaching your location*
Buzzing the canopy.
15:10 *Howling intensifies* Clearly a Canadian pilot following the "no prisoners no wounded" doctrine.
He can't go back to base without being able to put some checkmarks on the Geneva Checklist.
RCAF do not have Super Hornets, to be fair.
That "splat" sound you use when your pilot craters is so perfect, I laugh and cringe each time lol
F/A-18F Pilot, excellent flying and some super great turns/maneuvers.
Who was flying the Super Hornet, you need to have them back again.
F/A-18E/F vs F-35C (Fox-2 fight) would be epic to see! Navy vs Navy : Old vs New
Day 2

@@mrcelsius2928I know but it would still be cool if GS did. The F-35 should be much more aggressive. F-35 pilots say it is like a hornet.
Yea. I like the idea.
@@mrcelsius2928 I just would hope that he would give them both 9Xs.
@@mrcelsius2928the F-35 has the F-15C cockpit. Not very appealing to see.
GS: "He's too close"
Hornet: "hold this AIM-9X for me, my dude"
So much Russian barbecue
Hot potato!
Super hilarious that the first 3 times you ejected you didn’t get any chute. I know it’s a horrible and horrifying way to go but in this case it was just too funny
At least it's a quick way to go
I just noticed that you changed the skin of the Fulcrum pretty much every engagement, so it felt like it was a different MiG-29 each time
Kinda agree

Great vid as always GS, keep up the great work!
This was a Blockbuster of a duel. Have that opponent again.
12:00 the plane got shot facing up and it unceremoniously went down without wings.
It's been a while since i could watch DCS videos but hearing the Hornet Howl is like greeting an old friend
Man this turned into a GS Moments of Death montage really fast xD, way to hang in there as long as possible though and rack up a couple yourself
I also was not expecting the 9x that early in the last fight, definitely jumped at my desk when it came in
1:44 "Too close for guns, switching to missiles"
- F/A-18F, probably
I was so happy when you finally got that 4th chute to open and land, despite the Hornet's best attempt to sabotage that landing too! 🤣
Jeez that last 9X scared me .. I jumped! Didn't even see it launched.
Well its not often you see someone get the best of Captain Pancake that many times in the same video. Fun times!
Captain Pancake ! hahaha
Like bugs on a windshield.
Every time You got nailed by a 9X was screaming out for you to eject instantly so you had time for the chute to actually open😭
God the hornet sounds so good

DO A WW1 CARGO PLANE ESCORT, (OR A WW2 ONE?)
Ya need differential thrust in those ejection seats.
Now I feel sorry for bugs on my windshield.

I love these ultra slow 1 circle fights. Idk why they are just so satisfying to watch. Then I still love some good BVR!
Thought he was going to cut your chute on that pass.....the ultimate insult.
What a great vid! I know you probably didn't mean it but the chute antics were hilarious!
That was good flying on both parts, yours and Br3aker7's! Really good 1-circle moves for 4th gen.
I’ve been wanting to watch this matchup ever since reading Red Storm Rising. A period accurate 1980s match would be amazing!
Gotta love that hornet howl at the end
2:23 GS, you actually hit the ground before your Mig did!

Thank you for all the dogfight videos. I like them very much.
that intake howl....truly they are modern dragons
That was FANTASTIC dogfighting! It was fierce, deadly, quick. The quick and the dead. You miss cannon opps too often my friend
A hornet in HOBS merge is pretty terrifying
The MiG-29 falls like a rock when it's critically hit so you really can't hesitate to eject when you're on the deck... or you end up eating the missile and the ground.
5:50 "Man, fuck yo' rate fight"
"sorry I was so rude, have a missle!"
It kills me that you technically won most of those fights, but the missiles didn’t track.
Really enjoyed that fight, great flying by both of you.
'Gonna lose it if this missile misses' is a fun admission to hear. This was interesting to watch.
"Oh, where's the chute. Classic."
ngl the parachute gag cracked me up. i'm sure it wasn't intentional, but still. good for you surviving the last round haha
Every time the missile hit’s his aircraft it jump scares me because I don’t see it
This is gotta be my favorite video. Especially the end!
That Hornet howl is just to good to be true, love that noise!!!
Turns out that the most dangerous aspect of the Fulcrum is its own parachute…
OMG! THE LIVERY! I just had to comment on this vid because the 2005 50th Anniversary Camo of the Diamondbacks is my all time favourite! The snake has never looked this good! And I got a model of it right here in my room!
Had my laughing so hard at the end of the round 1 😂
There appears to be something wrong with our bloody parachutes today
didnt realize the Hornet was half Tie-Fighter lol

That was awesome to watch...maybe one of the more interesting ones for me....being so close to each other and trying to maneuver to get the advantage.
Love hearing your commentary in the engagement , l wonder if hearing both of you , talk each other tactics would be possible
I enjoy these as much as the guns only fights.
Love the one rule dogfight. Survive!
I love how you just cut back into the conversation when you re up haha
I honestly love these modern dogfights so much, really shows how scary technology can be.
that ejection into the ground was just. perfect
Gimmie a MiG-29 anyday, they fly like a dream and the power to weight is glorious.
"OH WOW!!", lol. scared me when the missle came out of the sun, haha
I love your frustrated and distressed noises after you get hit by the hornet
Seeing the ejection straight into the ground in the replay was pretty funny.
1:52 ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT??
High level banter in this one. "Why do I hear a Hornet? Might be the best one.😂
I don't think I've seen GS splattered this much in one video before.
When you punched out when you were upside down in that first round; it looks like you got fired out of a gun!
The eject right into the ground had me lmao
2:00 Holy chute
Man that howl at the end was sinister 😂love the hornet
You’ve been grinding brother!!! Keep it going!!
Its the "Squelch" when you die that produces the Simultaneous grin and grimace 😄
😂 I laughed at every splat..thanks for the entertainment
That fly by was incredibly disrespectful
I always think about my dad building these airplanes when I watch your videos.
the F-18 is like the Ju-87 Stuka every time i hear that flyby sound

LOL! It’s about time GS got a taste of his own medicine. Both are a beautiful aircraft.

Keep your eye on about 40-50 feet out in front of his nose and you’ll see the pilots parachute and deploy and it and him disappear into the ether. 😊 😂 🤣
Thank goodness the ground crew didn't sell that last plane's chute.
I Like hiw he just adapts not just to the jet, but also to the whole experience, u see’em using the metric system as a measuring term
lmao the parachute worked one single time
The Super Hornet is a very good looking plane
Your videos are amazing dude I love them so interesting and intense 💯💯💯
Famous Last Words "He's a little too close for missiles, no he's not."
On a side note, if these two pilots aren't careful they could FOD each others engines with those flares they keep spitting out....
“Fulcrum” has got to be the coldest name in aviation.
Great vid GS! Sorry but I had to root against you in this one. Absolutely love the Super Hornet. The other pilot did a fantastic job, you should have him on more often.
The splat sound effect is hilarious lol
Love that after the missile strike, the whole way down your jet continues to deploy flares 😂
that pass by after shooting u down is so disrespectful lmao
Love the ejection into the ground lol
Patiently waiting for GS to drop the BF3 F-18 mission “Going Hunting”
Cool! But you needed to show us the boom and zoom on your chute in that last outro shot!
I felt so sorry for that guy who kept squashing to the ground 😂
Those thick black/green smoke trails visible in the 29's mirror.... Behold the MiG-29, the first diesel-fuelled jet fighter! 🤣
"You will believe the Admiral Kuznetsov can fly..."
@@stevepreskitt283 Well, why not? After all, who'd have thought flying tank turrets would ever be a thing...
Love how GS hits the ground first while trying to eject twice. 😅😅😅
