We once watched an F-16 Viper demo pilot do a 350 knot 9g circle WITHIN the forest boundaries of the runways of the local airport in Florida- Titusville in this case. I couldn't freakin believe it!
Please create a Vid with The A-10C & F-15E while on the same team competing! In the sense that you'll not really looking out for each other, trying to get the most kills (+important kills), and of course survive! VS Couple Mi-24's, few Iglas, Strela, Tunguska, SA-5, and couple SU-25's! Plus provide ground support VS .50 Technical Trucks, BTR's, BMP's, T-72's, and couple T-90's!🙏👍
Generally these modded aircraft tend not to have fleshed out interiors and are otherwise pretty barebones and GS has a history of staying away from that for the most part.
I have been hoping to see GS in the black widow every time I see a video dropped that features it. Now I just see it at a running joke. How many videos will GS drop of the f23 where he doesn’t even fly it. I’ve heard that many mods will use cockpits out of other jets and I would be willing to look past that.
That Br3aker7 guy he fought against yesterday was really, really good and he seemed to know exactly how GS's mind works. He was a scary opponent that I'd like to see more of.
I love the YF-23!!! It should have won against the YF-22, both are utterly outstanding!!!! Yep the unloaded F-16 is an amazing dogfighter - it's what it was made for!! What NGAS can do will be fecking scary!!!
It's cool to see the cannon shells exploding on the ground as GS "walks" his stream of 20mm into the YF-23. Such great details the programmers accomplished in this sim.
Love that image you put up for the 1 circle, definitely would be useful for people who don’t know much about dogfighting. The camera shot was awesome too!
If I recollect correctly, the YF23 had better IR stealth and radar stealth, as well as higher super cruise and more range then the YF22, but was more an interceptor then a dog fighter.
IIRC the YF-23 did not have a functioning weapons bay and could not launch missiles as the YF-22 had already done....and there was a lot of concern that the fuselage structure would be compromised when the weapons bay was cut out. The composite structure was still experimental where the YF-22 made of proven materials and techniques....the AF likes 'Evolutionary' rather than 'Revolutionary' aircraft designs that they can have high confidence they won't run into insurmountable issues during development.
@@baremetalmafia Why would there be? It's obsolete technology. Northrop isn't known to have won the NGAD contract, either. Any similarities would be superficial and cosmetic, at absolute best.
2:2 with a fifth-Gen, not too shabby at all. That third-round clip from aft of the -23 as he shot you down was GORGEOUS, though. Such a beautiful fighter.
the F-16 is such an amazing aircraft. looks like with no blunders in this match-up it should win every time, but the YF-23 is so unforgiving, it really demands the same respect as the F-22
I feel like your opponent has spent some time in the Black Widow II and mastering the unique quirks of its high lift body. The amount of ground effect such a flat belly can produce is absolutely uncanny, and there were a number of times you saw him take advantage of that. That's someone who really enjoys that plane and committed a lot of time to mastering it. That was a really entertaining fight between you two.
Reality - the F23 RCS from all aspects was so low that your RADAR gun sight would have troubles keeping him locked. Think about about that for a while.
Thats the purpose of the dynamic gun funnel. If you don't have lock then you put the tips of each wing in the funnel and shoot. Same results, just takes a little more skill. Also not how rcs works. Once you're WVR the RCS is so close that any capable plane can get a lock. They'll just lose the lock frequently during the maneuvers.
Thank you for doing my request. I was not really expecting this would happen. It would be interesting to see how you would manage the fight if you were in the YF-23 though. Pretty sure you'll come out on top each round.
So cool to see aircraft when they are from bases that I was assigned to during my 26 years in the Air Force! Nice to see the Spangdahlem AB F-16 hold it's own against the YF-23.
The easiest way I have to remember the difference between one and two circle is the number of planes in the circle. In a two circle, there are two planes doing a circle/orbit. In a one circle, there's one plane per circular orbit.
Good work GS, I love the YF-23. Imagine if they used variable thrust in the trials, they had already nailed speed, stealth and range for a stealth fighter, they just didn't have the maneuverability in close combat. Considering the Government wasn't looking for a dog fighter it is such a shame that they moved the goal posts.
Hey GS, if you have time in a video, could you talk about the different HUDs in different fighters? I find sometimes it's hard to follow which reticle is which when looking at the HUDs.
YF-22 is weird because it's a 2 circle vertical fighter similar to a F-15. You always want a height advantage. If you get in trouble you want to reverse into a high altitude climb followed by a roll over dive onto the bandit. It's a weird aircraft it doesn't have the thrust vector to one circle fight.
Each prototype had pros and cons, but ultimately Lockheed made a better show of the aircraft by including more "production" subsystems than NG. So ultimately the YF-22 seemed a more fleshed out and less risky product. Have to realize that the F-22A as produced could walk circles around either prototype too.
The YF-23 must have been equipped with the war crime targeting pod, what with the pilot snipes! Maybe that was the clincher when it came down to which aircraft was chosen. Great fights!
The merge on fight 3 looks like it put you in an offset 2-circle, rather than an overlapping one.

How about the heaviest possible configuration for the F-16 versus the lightest possible configuration for the A-10 in a dogfight using just the machine gun?
I believe it was Kelly Johnson, or somebody else famous in the 'modern aircraft world'(ie, familiar with current aircraft tech) who said: "the YF23 is still flying today, in some shape or form"... That could mean a lot of things(if true), such as: the military took some of the YF23 tech and put it into the F35, or the B21, or maybe NGAD...mytwocents
The commonly understood reason why GS cuts his audio after he gets KIA is that it's for theatrical effect. In my head, the real reason is that he starts shouting a continuous barrage of obsenities until juuuuuuust before he turns the audio back on for the next round....
Great video again. I always enjoy them! Btw, can you load tracer rounds in the F16? It would make it even more exciting, seeing how much rounds are off-target? Thanks!
Looks fantastic although how accurate are the flight models with this type of plane (the yf-23) on DCS? Is it very clever people looking at the design of the plane and working out how they would actually fly? Whoever does it makes a fantastic job of it.
For all these fights against thr Widow II, it seems it can keep up with the F-16 until you make it bleed all of its airspeed. If it retains that advantage though, you have a hell of a time clawing a good position back.
Off topic/out of curiosity, are there any DCS missions where you fly the B-1 Lancer (aka the BONE)? Just wondering as that's bee n my favorite aircraft since I was a kid. F-16 is a close silver-medalist in that territory. Grew up on Iron Eagle, what can I say?
I didn't know that the green/brown camo of the f-16 was used by US. I thought only Israel were the only ones that used that camo. Round 4, the YF23 took the pilot out by ejecting.
It would be interesting if the developers created a super YF 23 with vectored thrust just as a “what if” scenario just to see how good this platform could be 🤔

@AdRxElite I did not know that. So, all we need is for someone to 3D build a cockpit and to have the avionics written up for each system.

If I recollect correctly, the YF23 had better IR stealth and radar stealth, as well as higher super cruise and more range then the YF22, but was more an interceptor then a dog fighter.
Also had at least one fatal flaw.
Plus, the USAF was not happy about Northrop's dodgy behaviour, regarding B-2 funds.
IIRC the YF-23 did not have a functioning weapons bay and could not launch missiles as the YF-22 had already done....and there was a lot of concern that the fuselage structure would be compromised when the weapons bay was cut out. I like how the 2 circle fight is visualized with the 2 best 2 circle fighters, the F-16 and the Mig 29, very cool.
Great idea to graphically show what a 2 circle vs. a 1 circle fight is. Very helpful. Thank you!
