For me, there is no better car for short distances and in the city than the Smart Fortwo EQ. Simply the best or nothing.👍👍👍
Had mine for 7 months now. Only do about 20-25 miles per week for work so does what I need it for, perfectly. I only have to charge it every few weeks and only charge through a 3 pin plug. Its a car for someone who's lifestyle suits it and with a good amount of comfort, not for someone that does lots of miles.
Just like the two slots into which the luggage cover's bar fits when it's in its normal position, there are in fact two slots down below on floor level where the bar is supposed to be stowed when you need the extra space. I'm sure many people will leave it there for the duration of their ownership, but in my previous generation smart I find it useful to be able to close my luggage space at times, and at others to remove the cover and stow it down below.
That forward-flipping passenger seat is a godsend as well! I've loaded the most amazing stuff in mine just because of the ability to make use of that, for instance a full-size filing cabinet at one time and two 1,9 m long planks just a couple of weeks ago, using some bubble wrap to protect the seat back and the underside of the passenger-side dashboard, and a folded towel over the luggage cover bar.
Thanks for this info!
Love the dry humor!
Thanks so much!
Considering buying one of these so thanks for the review.
You're welcome! Enjoy the car if you do buy!
Please don't waste your money, the range is a total joke....
@@Displays.1234. It is fun to drive though and very practical for cramped cities. Amazing turning circle and can park in places other cars can't.
@@WhichEV the range is redicklessly bad that makes the car completely unusable....
@@Displays.1234. Not really. We were able to use it for urban journeys during the testing period.
Makes me wonder if I could get one in Canada. I’ve been looking around for a few. No clue if it can withstand the winter though.
The cruise control is easy - That is a 3 way switch, push up for cruise then use the +/- on the opposite side for adjustment - Flick it down for speed limiting - and back to the middle for off - simples 👍 I have a petrol 0.9T Forfour & it took me a while to figure it out 😁
There's always a knack that is easy when you know... not so much when you don't!
These are brilliant !
For a city runabout, yes!
@@WhichEV yes of course, I would not swap my Smart ev for anything as a local runabout.
@@davidspendlove5900 One of the best in class for that, if not the best.
I have the turbo petrol 453 Smart and it sits perfectly fine on the motorway/country roads further out of a city! A very capable car
This sits comfortably too... it just doesn't go very far on motorways!
This is the first video I have seen by you. You did an excellent job. I live in the US and live in West Virginia. I own a 451 gas which I totally love and which my wife totally hates. It is sad that we no longer have Smart EV`s here. Everyone here is SUV crazy and huge 4 wheel drive trucks. You must be rich to buy a Tesla. I would love to own one of the EV 451`s but they are old now and the battery is certainly near the end of it`s life. There are no replacements anymore. What happens to an EV when the battery is no longer useable? Must the car be sent to the scrap yard?
That's not going to be such a problem going forward. Newer EVs have thermal management that means their batteries could last the lifetime of the car, and most now come with an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty for 70 or 80% capacity. If a car has 300+ mile range even at 80% it's still a very usable vehicle.
I really like this car
That's odd it has no sat nav now, I've got a 2019 model which looks near identical and that has Tom Tom built in.
Maybe they just though CarPlay would mean they could save money - and lots of people prefer it anyway.
Razzle 🤣, hunting rifle...YES!! loved this!
Thanks! We try to please!
You sense that Mercedes have very much called it a day on the Smart now that they have sold half of it to Geely, and that this update was left short of mobile charging pad, keyless entry and all that sort of stuff - on the plus side, all this means that there are some good deals to be had so I have just ordered one as a second car - not for Urban since we live on a farm (it does kind of irritate me this motoring journalist obsession that short range = urban) but for all the very short local journys that living on a farm creates - such as a 5 mile round trip to the nearest shop.
We're a British channel, and the vast majority of the population in the UK are urban or suburban. Only 20% of the UK population is rural. Glad you have a non-urban use for the smart though!
British channel with international audience
Nice video
Thanks!
Quale macchina e' meglio del dottor 1.0?
There is a band called the Vel Crows.
Any good? Do you find you get attached to them?
How much it costs for a full charge
That really depends where you live, whether you're charging at home or on a public charger... it's a complex question.
All the technology mentioned that the car hasn't got, that's a lot less to go wrong. I must admit, for my use, it's totally impractical and pricey, I will have to stick with my 451 diesel as I have a daily 25 mile commute each way for work of which the majority is motorway driving and the lack of fast charging and no chargepoint at work, I couldn't own one as I can't even have a home chargepoint and there's a lack of chargepoints locally, would I buy one if it had a better range and outside charging abilities? Yes I would as it's still quite basic which I prefer, and if they're anywhere near as reliable as my old faithful diesel, I'd definitely be happy to own one.
Look at the Fiat New 500 - more range, also quite fun and small.
@@WhichEV the reason I initially bought my Smart diesel was the fuel economy and it's size for where I have to park, even the Fiat 500 would probably be too big for me to leave the car without having to move it if anyone else sharing the driveway needs to access the drive, hence sticking with the old faithful for now.
@@andrewgage6942 Sounds fair. It's not one size fits all!
built in satnav is rubbish and less car makers are offering it. Its always out of date, and if you want it to be up to date, they'll charge you for it, or require a subscription. OR, you can use your phone, for free, because you're already paying for the data anyway.
Pls how much is this smart
We state a price in the review, but this is probably out of date now so we recommend checking with your local dealer.
Still prefer my 400 mile range petrol smart that takes a minute to refuel than a 100 mile electric smart that takes 1-3 hours to recharge. A consideration if I had off street parking but I’d have to rely on public charging.
The electric Smart is really fun and nips around cities amazingly well. It's an almost perfect city car.
@@WhichEV honestly if I had off street parking with the ability to charge every night I definitely would purchase but every public charger I’ve visited in my petrol smart is either occupied, too expensive or out of order 🫤
@@danielrichards8472 It's a problem but hopefully will be reduced. There is more and more money going into charging infrastructure now.
The velcro band is to hold a bag of shopping.
Very practical!
There seems room under the frunk for more battery capacity. I mean it's not really a frunk so space is wasted anyway. Weird wasting space on a tiny car.
Not a true EV platform. That always results in wasted space.
@@WhichEV makes sense
@@jondonnelly4831 It's still a great little car, if you just need a short range city runabout.
And still the biggest problem is the battery is way to small....
It's very much a city-only car. We tried it on a motorway and totally freaked out!
75% of U.K. commute is under 10 miles and under 40 miles making up the next 15%. Honestly apart from maybe 2 trips a year the Smart would suit me. Saying that the Fiat 500e with 199 range would do it all for me.
@@jondonnelly4831 The Fiat 500e is a great little car, so long as you're happy with its limations. Full of character.
My parents called it handbrake 😂
Thanks for getting the joke! :)
Y this car is not available in India ☹️
No idea I'm afraid.
If the price is in the middle class range, then this mini car will create a storm in India, no one can think of something new. Such a car is also needed on the Indian road.
Price??
Where are you? It depends which country you are in... and has changed since we made this video.
I am from indonesia
@@selalucukup9574 You will need to check your local pricing. I'm not sure MG is selling in Indonesia yet.
Black exterior, black interior... who died?
Ridiculously overpriced.
Most EVs still are. Give it another couple of years, however, and prices will drop, although probably not for cars with a Mercedes-related badge.
как так можно было испортить Смарт!!!
Mini от BMW убили, Жука от Фольцвагена тоже похоронилили, Ford Ka тоже... Как можно бюджетные авто превращать в дорогущие???
Still way over priced ...
Well, it's a Mercedes...
@@WhichEV Yeah and non-EV Mercedes have low resale value 😀
