    Love that car. Test drove one yesterday and was 101% impressed. Wanted to use it for in-town driving but my girlfriend went into a yelling fit complete with all the animation in front of the sales person and I had to leave it on the lot. I purchased the Nissan Leaf but I really wish I could have got the Smart4two.

      I've had my diesel version since 2011, it was just 5 months old and had covered a mere 2000 miles, it's just turned 122000 miles now and only once has it been off the road for more than 24 hours, luckily it was still under warranty, a few sensors all decided to give up at the same time, it's a good enjoyable drive, very economical, cheap to insure, no road tax, I really love it, I'd love to have the electric version, but I do a 74 mile round trip for work and the charging infrastructure here is at best useless, I can't have a chargepoint at home because I have a shared driveway with public right of way as a walkthrough, the council deem it unsafe, the only chargepoints we have are in a car park which closes at night, so I have to stick with my diesel version, the latest versions are something else. I have to say it's the most suitable car I've had for where I live and for my needs in diesel form at least

    Great video. We’ve had the Edition 1 EQ as in your video for over two years now and love it. Really quite nippy, super comfortable, simple to park and manoeuvre, hilariously good turning circle and the LED headlights are amazingly good. 22kw charger is great as in 15min you get a great top up. We also have been amazed at how much you can cram in the boot and having a ‘Range Rover - like’ split tailgate is super useful - and can make a handy seat as well !! This car has attracted so much positive attention and interest as well - always getting asked about it. Easy to get the claimed range. Brilliant as a second car for city or village use because of range but easily fast enough to be safe and confident to drive on motorways as well

    I have one since 2018 running it in the Canadian climate. It is only a city car repeat city car as long as people except that you can go wrong. The cost of running it including the lease is less expensive than a monthly bus and metro pass in the Montreal area. That alone makes it a bargain. The fact that I am in alone in the car for 95% of the time does not require me to have a huge gas guzzling or even electric vehicle. This is the ultimate city car for daily chores errands and to and from work no more than 60 km in the winter to and from

      Hi Deano, great question. We hopped into one of our smarts and gave this a go: When the car is plugged in and accepting charge hop inside and you can activate pre-entry climate control through the instrument cluster and steering wheel control buttons. Just set your desired temperature on the air conditioning panel. Remember pre-entry climate control can only be used when the car is plugged in and you can also set this through the smart EQ control app. Give it a try and let us know how you get on. I just took possession of a high-spec smart EQ ForTwo about two weeks ago, here in Italy.
    What can I say? First, it's my second smart EQ so I know a few things about the car. My previous one was a 2019 and I did 12K km with it. Yes, it's pricey and yes the range is limited. But I am one of those people who use it for the daily commute so I find it more than satisfactory, actually ideal. That's also thanks to the parkability. I have other cars for longer journeys so the smart EQ is ideal for my in-town needs.

    Like the vid Ken. So much so that I called Smart Milton Keynes on Sunday and arranged a test drive for the same day. Arrived at the appointed time and my call, it seems, went to a "Nathan" at a Smart call centre and Nathan could not be bothered to make the arrangements with Smart at MK.
    Had a look at a demo car but as they had not expected us we couldn't go out and not even a trip round the car park!
    Smart really wanted my order. Not.
    Also, for £19,000 odd the car didn't even have a satnav installed. So al in all, my wife will keep her 2011 Smart for Two Passion which has not yet clocked £3k. What a shame on SMART. One might say "NOT SO SMART EH?"

    If I don't move to somewhere with a driveway I suspect one of these might be my next car. I currently have a 2008 smartcar. Just waiting for charging infrastructure to get a little bit better. I'm not a fan of needing different apps for all the different charging points. I'd much prefer to be able to tap my contactless debit or credit card and go, like self service fuel pumps now. Which is something I suspect is going to emerge in the next few years.

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  3 роки тому

      Excellent choice! For the smart EQ control app, if you have an account registered with the car linked up then you may just need to accept the terms of use first to activate the services. Head to www.smart.mercedes-benz.com/gb/en/connected-portal and sign in with your account details - either your email address or mobile number that you created the account with. Once you're in, go to settings, terms of use and accept. Then select your car, go to manage services and switch these on - they usually activate within one hour but allow up to 24 hours for everything to switch on. These services will be active for three years from the first date of registration to smart EQ control and can be renewed for a fee after the three year period.
      If the car is linked to another account, you'll need to visit your nearest Mercedes-Benz or smart dealership with proof of ownership for your account to be verified and the car to be linked up.
      Let us know how you get on - if you have any issues feel free to email us at marketing@LandLautomotive.co.uk and we'll see what we can do.
      I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you are loving your new smart EQ!

    • @LandLAutomotive

    I'm late to this forum so I may be missing something. My biggest and essentially only concern is the range. It seems Smart doesn't want to upgrade the battery to improve it. They probably have their reasons, but they're missing a ton of buyers. Is there any serious consideration of a better battery to provide an increased range? Are there any credible shops out there which are providing such better batteries and range? It seems to me that the solution exists, so why not do it?

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 роки тому +1

      Great points. Here's what I think.
      With hindsight, I think the focus was put on the next generation models even before the Mercedes-Benz/Geely joint venture was announced in early 2019 - product decisions are always signed off a couple of years before reaching the showrooms and newsrooms. Anyway, the new models will be (eventually) indirectly replacing the fortwo/forfour with production of the #1 already underway, fortwo continuing for the time being and forfour having finished production sometime in 2021.
      As for boosting the range of the fortwo, I think the aftermarket will provide solutions in the coming years - if there's a market for EV-converting E-Types, Defenders and classic Minis from combustion to battery there has got to be a market for boosting the performance of existing EVs. Have a look at ONE who are making incredibly energy-dense batteries to go into existing platforms: one.ai/
      Interestingly, the twinned model Renault Twingo Electric introduced in 2020 received a 22 kWh battery compared to the 17.1 kWh battery featured in the smart models and a WLTP city range of 155 miles or 112 on the combined test.
      In short, if most of the driving is going to be in the city, the battery size doesn't concern me too much. Out of town or for motorway running it would be a limiting factor. As for the future? The new smart #1 has grown and got a 66 kWh battery under the floor with a range up to 272 miles WLTP combined.
      If I had the budget, would I want to bolt on a larger battery and create an all-wheel drive Frankenstein fortwo/forfour? Absolutely.

      I've been ill and only just read your thoughtful reply. Thank you. Over the next couple years, I will be on the lookout for any credible shops doing battery upgrades for the ForTwo series.
      I've seen a couple UA-cam introductions on the new One series, but not aesthetically impressed (of course, that's a matter of individual taste). I will, however, monitor the One's progress and try to keep an open mind. It's hard to abandon a love -- the style of the ForTwo will be hard to beat. Again, thank you for your helpful suggestions.

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  3 роки тому

      Hi Mike, thank you for watching! The clock glitch is something that requires a system update. The app itself is designed for the EQ range rather than the petrol models. From my experience it works quite well for finding charging spots nearby and getting pre-entry climate control programmed - very useful in winter. The seats remained the same between the pre and post facelift models and you may find that the fabric seats offer slightly better support. Before filming this video, I put a cabriolet through its paces to help me write the script; refinement is good for such a thin roof and if you love getting the roof down then I can't recommend it enough!

The only real complaint is the rubbish demister - it's slow & seems to be biased to LHD. Despite it still being the cheapest EV in the UK we wont be getting another; the 2021 facelift didn't come with an increased battery size. We're going to miss it, but the range is just not enough to commit to another 4 years (24kWh would have been enough). I have a 2013 ED and love it. MB must know that they would sell massively more cars if they just added another 50 miles to the range. This is the 4th generation of electric ForTwo (although only the second that was available to buy) and the range has not increased although battery technology certainly has. That same battery SHOULD be giving the extra range. They have given up Smart in the US too. I think Mercedes are hoping electric cars will just be a fad and fade away. How wrong they are.

    • @andrewgage6942
      @andrewgage6942 3 роки тому

      The range is far too little, my other issue is that the charging infrastructure isn't available, even if the Smart had the range of say, 100 real world miles, if I were to use the only available charging point in the vicinity, it would cost£2 per hour parking plus the cost of charging, for me, running my Smart diesel is cheaper as I don't incur parking fees and so I'm told, charging on public chargepoints isn't exactly that cheap either, and if I were to use a granny charger, I'm not home long enough between shifts to be able to charge the vehicle

      @@andrewgage6942 We had a 7kw charger (3hr charge) installed at home when we had our Zoe before it, and my wife's company is only 14 miles away and has a 7Kw there too, so it worked for us. If you haven't got off somewhere to install a charger it's a definite no-go, even then the Smart could never realistically be your only car. My wife now regularly gets 200 miles from our Corsa E which cost us £21k new, so as much fun as it was, the Smart is just not value for money now

    Hi I'm Deano from Lancashire I own a 2020 Smart EQ forfour. But rather than me trade up with Mercedes again can a bigger longer range battery be fitted or a battery pack range extender fitted lifting my range from 70 miles to over 100 ?

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 роки тому

      Great question - and something that I've often wondered myself - a twin motor smart EQ with a larger battery would be epic! Though I'm not sure that there will be an official battery upgrade/retrofit coming down the line as the model would need to go through WLTP homologation again, I can see a gap in the market for aftermarket battery upgrades in the future. Companies like ONE (Our Next Energy) have already started putting their products in existing cars like the Model S that got a 752 mile driving range when fitted with their battery. Find out more here: one.ai/range/

There’s a button on the left hand side of the steering wheel that allows you to switch between the cruise or speed limit functions. Also, the smart EQ models all have a limited top speed of 81 miles per hour.

On a motorway run it really drinks the juice so I’m intrigued how much battery you used from 100% on one way trips. ❤😊 there are two cars that should have been developed but will not developed. one of them was the smart for two excellent concept, but it could have been made into a longer range high performance version and certainly a better an electric car than it was. it had so much potential. the other one is the one that I own and I'd love it. that is the BMW i3 s fantastic construction lightweight. a brilliant little vehicle to drive and yet hobbled by the fact that it could have had three motors. 2. in the back and run in the front it would have made it into a high performance supercar but they didn't do that. they could have improved the range by putting a better battery or bigger battery option. they didn't do that. they could have had an option of two motors in the back as an option but they didn't do that. they could have had an option of a motor in the front and a motor in the back for front and back wheel drive and all wheel drive but they didn't do that. they could have had an off-road version with high level high lift air suspension, but they didn't do that. this platform was an a magic platform that was ignored by fools and it was such a shame because these cars are basically very well engineered for their purpose and yet they were hobbled because of selling toxic fossil s*** to people who quite frankly should know better😮😮😮😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 when I see the truth and global non-profit leadership, I'm hoping plant-based cars lightweight vehicles will come back as the electric mini that they replace the i3 with compared to the i3 it is a heap of heavy tin crap! 😮
