I’ve never seen a guy that can sing, rap, and play the guitar all equally great. Not to mention his storytelling. A few centuries ago he would have been a legendary bard…
He also plays piano:)
@@emhutch25 he also plays the bass... Very well. As a matter of fact he plays the bass so we'll that he can pick that big thing up and manhandle that bish and play it as if it were a freaking blues guitar.
@@emhutch25 he can also beatbox. He also wrights his own lyrics. He also can do all of the above while looking pretty damned attractive, using a relatively impressive vocabulary (implying that he is also somewhat intelligent as well), while literally dying of Lyme disease.
He can do all of that impossible shit as he is freaking dying of Lyme disease and chronic fatigue and be charasmaticly charming and real MFing sexy. If I were male Id be so jealous of this dude that I would be sending him death threats. Luckily I'm female, so I just swoon. I am willing to admit that it's not fair tho.
@@selenadepriest697 Totally agree. That boy has got amazing swag!
he even plays a bards tale on the guitar at the start of violets tale 😘👌😉
I love that Ren uses raw, unadulterated, zero autotune, zero backup dancers...just TALENT and pure performance. This guy ain't no AI bull. He is real.
Great reaction. You have no idea who Ren is nor what he is fully capable of yet, and I love that. Try the “Hunger” next for some sick throwback 90’s era hip hop. It's a flex for him to share that he can do whatever he wants. There is no box to place Ren in. Welcome to the rabbit hole
If you're sayin 90s you can't go past what you want
@@idigthat73 wanted to say that too👍🏻 old school beasty boys style
@@yannpafemy yea boiiiii
@@idigthat73 i think you need to specify that "all you want" is a title of a song.otherwise you could get it wrong
Hunger is good, but I think Genesis is a better show of his rapping ability.
I'm in New Zealand. It is well recognized here on social media. Ren is so talented and authentic. Thar hits home for many, everywhere.
Regulators is the thing he's borrowing cadence from. "Just hit the east side of the LBC on a mission trying to find Mr Warren G"
Ren is a beast on the acoustic and electric guitar. He plays bass, piano and drums too.
Check out his band called The Big Push.
Ren"s versatility is unmatched. Everything Ren does is dripping with genius. Approach has songs as works of art. Read the lyrics and see the architecture of brilliance.
Obviously, I am a fan. I have been going down the Ren rabbit hole now for about 6 weeks. In my 51 years I have never encountered another artist with this diverse set of musical talent and this level of musical genius. There is so much more than what I have written. To find out the rest, you need to take the plunge.
It's a long way to the bottom of the rabbit hole, Alice!
Ren is the new Prince.
Screech kills Jenny--The police kill Screech---then Ren rewinds time from 2019 to 2005 to tell Violets tale--Violet is killed by Stevie after giving birth to her twins who turn out to be Jenny & Screech who were obviously raised separately and Screech didn’t know he was robbing and killing his twin sister Jenny.
@@GhostWatcher2024 she'd just finished stacinkg shelf's at Asda!
@@steveclarke2585that was Violet,stacking shelved
Yes, we know. Ren tells us in his lyrics. It’s not hard to follow.
High heeled shoes and red on her cheeks, yeah...
Night could come as early as 4:30 during the winter months . At 14 I often came home late after babysitting , tried wearing my mom’s “heeled” boots and spent a lot of time at the make up counter of department stores.
Ren knows no genre boundaries. He is an elite, top shelf rapper. Ren can rap, rap.
The Hunger is the Frankenstein (monster) Ren made to flex all of the tools that he has at his disposal to conquer the music world. The Hunger is Ren"s golden ticket. The flow changes are insane. The rhyme schemes are very complex.
Ren also has an amazing singing voice. He has several powerful duets. (Rec x Chinchilla)
Penitence is an extremely well written song. Ren incorporates complex rhyme schemes and flow changes into a more normal song. The song is very deep and I love the ending segment. Ren's artistic creativity and lyrical genius are on full display.
Intro is a medieval minstrel with a story to tell by a new travelling bard!
You have to hear his other stuff, he sings ballad style with another super talented artist called Chinchilla in a song called Chalk Outlines live and he raps like a beast on things like the Hunger, Power, Genesis and Losing It. This trilogy and Hi Ren are the pretty unique ones in his catalog of stuff. Then watch his busking in the street with his band The Big Push, they cover from Bob Marley to Black Sabbath to Ray Charles. A really fun one they did on a rooftop, also in one take, was a cover of Manu Chao’s “Bongo Bong”, check that one out.
Doing things in one take is kind of his thing, and he does it impressively well.
Ren bends and blends genres, chameleon-like.
Highly recommended:
Chalk Outlines (live version, with Chinchilla)
Earned It/Man's World/Falling (busking with Sam Tompkins)
I Shot The Sheriff (live, busking with his band The Big Push
The Hunger (a rap video)
Sick Boi (rap/drama video)
There's also a video of Ren doing his own cover of "Breezeblocks" by the band Alt J, and it's freaking amazing. I like Ren's version better than the original
I agree with this list
he took cadence for Jenny's tale from Warren G feat Nate Dogg - Regulate
Definitely gotta hit The Hunger next. 2.5 minutes, 453 words, and an absolute banger!!
The guitars have internal contact (piezoelectrical) microphones that don't take up any external sound, and as you said, he has a directional lapel microphone for the singing.
appreciate you releasing an uncensored version, it deserves it.
He does his almost ALL his videos in ONE TAKE! FRIGGIN AWESOME
I was going to say…it’s like the end of a Shakespearean play. Genius.
More Ren, please, Sir.
In my opinion he has many different potential paths for success. He has more mainstream type of "songs" and he has stuff like this and Hi Ren which is more concept and story telling. That type of song storytelling is incredibly popular in theater. Hamilton has proven that you can still do it. This is basically a 12 minute tragedy, that had he seen it played this way, would have made Shakespeare wish he had written it. I would sit down to watch a 90 min show ren performing several of these types of songs compiled into a 1 man show.
Ren has a band called "The Big Push" and they have live videos on their UA-cam page where they play street shows in Britain. They do amazing, and I mean amazing covers of Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff" and Ren's voice sounds so much like Bob Marley's. They do an incredible cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs." They cover The Rolling Stones "Paint It Black" with Ren playing bass and it too is incredible.
It’s a lapel mike, and the guitar’s plugged in under his jacket. He says he masters every bit of the sound to make sure it doesn’t fade in and out when he’s moving his head, etc.
Please lets go down the Ren rabbit hole. One word. Genius.
I think you’d love his song Hi Ren. This should definitely be your next reaction. It’s a total masterpiece. He has songs like Chalk Outlines and What You Want that have more commercial appeal. He covers so many genres. This is a rabbit hole you want to fall down.
Not as niche as you'd think. Check out the rest of his music if you get a chance. You've only scratched the surface with the 2 songs (technically 4 with the trilogy) you've listened to. Pick a genre and Ren has already conquered it. You have no idea yet LOL 😉 Great reaction, luv. Thank you! 🥰🙏❤
Your obsession over the mic had me dying. Lol. 😂😂😂
"...definitely borrowing that entire scheme..." - Are you sure? But, I love your reactions.
Oh man there's so many great choices you could put his entire category in a bag and pull a track out blindly and not be disappointed... I mean that 100%
Not all of them are perfect or the same as hi Ren and the trilogy... but they all are special and artistic/creative ...he is with out an artistic prodigy
💯
I’m a huge fan of Chalk Outlines and the Hunger as well. He’s quite possibly one of the most gifted musicians/songwriters I’ve ever encountered.
Hi Ren has over 7 million views in 2 months, I think the world is listening! Yes it is a live one take! If you want to hear another side of him I suggest Genesis or The Hunger
Here 3 weeks later and it's over 9 mil
@@aprilsarandos8855 Today its 10m+
Chalk outlines.... My favorite that I've seen from him. He's an absolute genius and extremely talented
I don’t know how many times I have seen this reaction but I love it every time.
He has a mic on his shirt, and a pickup built into the guitar with a cable to connect to a wireless system!
Oh, he has other music, too. I would recommend Sick Boi next. Check out The Hunger, he can rap rap, too. Chalk Outlines with Cincilla is great, too, the live version. I also like Losing It, and then also check out some of his stuff from when he was with the band The Big Push. I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop is a good one.
A couple of fantastic tracks are Diazapam, Dear God, and Dominoes.
For seeing Ren duet with other artists ‘Blind eyed’ or ‘How to be me’ are both brilliant.
I'd go with big push sheriff/Zion/hip hop for this channel. Best Segway into his catalogue
All these songs were done as a one take, live performance, with a collar mic and a camera, that's it. Nothing complicated, just pure talent and perfect locations each time for it ❤️
He absolutely has a huge catalog let's just go right through it 1 by 1
Every song of Ren's just gets better with each listen. Never quite had that happen with music before.
I love the live street performance of I Shot the Sheriff Road to Zion Hip hop with The Big Push. But its all 🔥
Ren has over 700,000 subs at the moment. He is blowing up. And I am happy for the man.
I’m just as fixated on production as you, don’t stop!
I totally agree that they should be on the radio it would also cultivate and inspire new creations
Try listening to Ren rapping ,,The HUNGER
Was hoping you would do these. The story telling will blow you away.
Violet died giving birth to Jenny and screech. They were separated at birth. Jenny was quiet like her mother Violet, screech had violent nature like his father. They didn’t know about each other when screech robbed and killed Jenny
Loved you geeking out about the audio, but I'm not sure that to caught that Violet is the mother of Jenny and Screech.
Separated since childhood only to reunite on the fateful day that Screech unknowingly murders his twin sister, then dies himself the next street over.
Oh man
the geeking out about the audio was driving me crazy
Violet's tale actually happened 14 years before Jenny and Screech's tales
Bardcore!! 🔥🔥🔥🤘
Thank you!! I was about to say that, glad someone else knows the term, lol😄🎶✌
Check out”Genesis” or “The Hunger” or “Sick Boi”. He can rap rap
Regulate- Warren G and possibly Nate Dogg. Haven't listened to that in years. Great reaction to this beyond incredible performance. Definitely do more Ren, he is the single most versatile musicians I've ever heard. His acting is exceptional to ice the cake.
In Jenny's defense, many workers in the city don't get a choice to stay "off the streets"
Why do people not understand this ending? It's baffling to me. Come on bro... you know it's 2005 at the beginning of Violet's Tale, and you know Screech is 14 in the present in the first two tales. Now at the end of this he says "Two twins lay side by side: A girl named Jenny and a boy named Screech." Violet was their mom. She died at birth. The kids grew up separately in the system and had no idea of each other's existence. Screech killed his sister after two generations in this vicious cycle.
And what literally no one notices except me is that Jenny is a 14 yr-old hooker who walked that route on the street "a thousand times" in her "high-heeled shoes"
And you'll also notice other minor lines about Jenny that will give you no other choice but to come to the same conclusion that I have
RIGHT!?!??!! I dont understand why everyone is confused who violet is in connection to Jenny & screech.its very simple if you listen to the lyrics, violets tales happens 14 years before Jenny & Screech's tales....she's silent and in an abusive childhood & relationship, her daughter Jenny also the silent type in an abusive situation...screech is violent & takes after his abusive father who beat violet, and in turn kills his twin sister Jenny like his father killed his mom right as he & Jenny were born.the story begins at the end and ends at the start...like a pulp fiction kind of deal if you've seen that movie (which has the same set up story line wise).its simple really.lol😄🎶✌
Also, when Jenny’s eyes and screech’s eyes meet she froze They say twins can have a strange connection sometimes.
I don’t think Jenny was a “working girl” Im currently doing a breakdown of all the characters in this epic tale on my YT, I think you would find my arguments that Jenny was a good girl compelling
It's like a Shakespearean tragedy it's draws you in to the story and keeps you absorb in the tale and pulls on your emotions ,
Really enjoyed your reaction
There are no words to describe this! I never thought I’d ever say I’d listen to an entire album of solely guitar playing but wow, I LOVE his guitar playing. I’m blown away with the theatrics, the story telling, his voice, etc
I recommend Sick Boi be your next Ren track.
Ren can do pretty much any Genre out there don't worry! But he's finding what he's doing at the moment the most rewarding he's dropping a new track in a couple of weeks I'm interested what it will be this time! Great reaction bruv💯🇬🇧
He's quickly gaining GOAT Status! His Rapping lyrical genious isn't even a question! Multi Instruments under his belt! Storytelling off the charts! Poetry even... spoken word genious!
His beats and mixing... Off the Charts!
The videography set up perfectly with what he wants to say!
One Shot videos, recorded live... wow!!!
I must’ve watched this on your other channel, but I’ll watch it again on here.
Please will you react to “How to be Me (live)” and “Chalk Outlines (live)”? Both great tracks. I’m sure you’ll love them 😊
Like Ren said in Hi Ren, he does not concern himself with commercial success. That said, Hi Ren is now at over 7 million vies in 3 months, so people HAVE taken notice. Also, all 3 Takes are indeed live one-take videos, as was Hi Ren.
Support REN, he is a Genius!
Regulate by Warren g and nate dog
that's the one!
Given what sounds like to me, at least, throughout that whole first part as a reggae vibe I actually thought it was more like Doin' Time by Sublime. Interesting if he has ever commented on what he was thinking.
He's using wireless setups for the vocals and guitar. And musically, the only person i could ever compare him too is Prince but i think Ren is a better story teller than Prince was. Prince might have been bit better musically, but not by much. And Ren is still young.
I think thats a really good observation. Both he and Prince do belong in that "Modern Virtuoso" kind of category.
He doesn't have a "genre" either. He's a storyteller, a singer, song writer, a guitarist, keyboardist, that engages in rap, ska, pop, rock, and mixes them up. He's a rabbit hole for sure.
I agree a couple of his songs are niche but he has such an extensive catalog of styles you can't pigeon hole him
Ren has a HUGE range. He raps, sings, narrates....you gotta listen to "The Hunger", "Chalk Outlines", and "What You Want". He even does reggae really well.
The way he sang this song reminded me of that band called stray cats
Wonderful comment. I would love to see Ren with Brian Setzer from the Stray Cats.
What you want, Losing it,Power, Chaulk outlines live, Crutch...dude I cannot find a bad one tbh
People will not consume this if you don't tell the world that it exists and that they should. I am sure the world never thought metal would catch on
one word comes to mind: Troubador.
Ren calls his style Bardcore, so yes, Troubador indeed
I haven't watched the reaction yet...but you're my favorite reactor watching one of my favorite performances by Ren... I'm so excited!!! Sorry so late. Love both of you!!!
I'm so happy you're covering Ren~!!
Ren wears a lapel mic,and has his guitar plugged in under his clothes. Recorded live,,all in one take. He's pure talent~!!
It's as simple as it looks: Ren is performing a song that is recorded separately
You ARE THE ONLY REACTOR TO catch the Warren G Regulate riff he does in the intro to Jenny's Tale.
"It was a clear black night, a clear white moon
Warren G was on the streets tryin' to consume
Some skirts for the eve so I can get some funk
Rollin' in my ride, chillin' all alone
Just hit the east side of the LBC
On a mission tryna find Mr. Warren G
Seen a car full of girls, ain't no need to tweak
All you skirts know what's up with 213"
Another song telling the story of gritty streets, hard men/boys, violence and women. Unlike Screech, Nate Dogg and Warren G actually just picked up the ladies and partied with them all night.
He's wearing a Lavaliere mic on his collar, and a wireless guitar connection (you can kinda see it on his back in some shots). I'm pretty sure all the sound capture was solely from those two sources.
We would love for you to get into his rap and rock songs too
the guitar has a pick up in it and he has a lapel mic clipped to his lapel , same set up as Hi Ren . His guitar is strung with metal strings and on Hi Ren he is using nylon strings . Both his guitar and his voice are plugged into a transmitter on his lower back .
HAHAHHAHAHAHAH THE MIC SITUATION KILLED ME MAN. I’m wondering too
I have been salivating for thos reaction! 🤣
Literally pick any song of his at random. Seriously. Every one will surprise you.
So, another reactor commented about the pickup in the guitar being inside the box (he's not really a fan of the sound), and the vocals are typically picked up via a lava mic on the neck of his shirt.
As for why you're not picking up traffic sounds it's because they're in an industrial area in the middle of the night. Even in the middle of major cities, these areas can get really quite at night.
The cinematographer is Samuel Perry-Falvey, and he's as much a genius at his art as Ren is.
If you haven't already, you should absolutely check out "Hi Ren."
Other great videos include: The Hunger, Losing It, Power, Genesis, Bittersweet Symphony, What You Want.
Let's make the RENaissance happen. ❤
His music is not niche like you think..... Bro once you start diving you'll see!! Ha 🔥🔥🔥
how can it be that you review and analyse exactly THOSE artists i love to hear. Instant subscribe since Zeal & Ardor. Your Analyses are on point. And i honestly hate reaction videos because its always like "its good yeah, i like it" "wow... coool" "hahaha hihihi" "sorry i have to cry" no you're fckn objective, catching the essence, feeling it and breaking it down to what the song and especially the artist wants to show
Woah I know that alley in Brighton lol
ren is brill, good reaction man
I love Hi Ren and Chalk Outline by him! He is awesome! I love your smile when you hear and see music you enjoy!
The street sounds actually coming to play later actually worked really well with the song
You are thinking about, "Regulators". However, there are a lof of his melotic/rhythmic phrasing that is derived from folk music. In particular Irish folk music.
His story telling reminds me of A Clockwork Orange....him being the humble narrator.
Loved your reaction! I love it when someone is really nerdy about stuff. Like recording equipment for example. :)
I would like to see you be amazed at the Hunger next (only 2 mins odd) followed by Chalk Outlines
Jenny and Screech were brother and sister. Twins. Violet was their mother. He told the tale of Jenny and Screech first, and then "rewound the hands of time" to two zero zero five (2005) to tell the tale of Violet. Violet grew up with an abusive father, moved out, met an abusive boyfriend, got pregnant, was eventually beaten to death by her boyfriend, but not until she had Jenny and Screech on her death bed in the hospital. Jenny and Screech grew up in the system without a mother or father who was now out of their lives for killing their mother Violet. Jenny and Screech never knew each other. It's a tale about how abuse and tragedy passes through three generations.
For Jenny's tale @4:20 (appropriate time to reference snoop dogg) I think you are thinking of Gin and Juice - with so much drama in the LBC....
I love watching the dawning realization on people's faces after Violet's Tale closes and they hear the names.
Shakespeare would be so proud of his fellow countryman.
Ren will be fine. He’s got a whole forest of artistry and zero in on any one of them or all of them. He’s already a star in many people’s eyes.
From having done shoots like this: Usually a lav mic to pick up the voice clearly but only at super short range - enough to get the voice and the guitar. The guitar and lav are plugged into a wireless transmitter on his belt. The camera likely has a very high end mic and/or he has a sound person with them using a high end shotgun mic on a pole mount he carries. In the end, you take the good audio for voice from the shotgun mic and/or camera, the output from the guitar, and match sync them to the lav mic which is attached to the video for timing. That way all audio channels sync with the video.
Warren G and Nate Dogg, it was a clear dark night in the LBC on a mission trying to find Mr. Warren G.
Follow us down the Ren rabbit hole. Found wonderland at the bottom.
The cadence in Jenny's Tale is from "Regulate" by Warren G and Nate Dogg
Multiple Talents
Love you. Loved to see you're reaction ❤
First time a see someone react to this one before reacting to Hi ren :)
You should definitly check Hi Ren next and also as some other recommended try Hunger for some very sick rapping
Love you’re videos bro, keep it up🤩👍🏻
I believe that the song which was tickling your synapses is “Summertime” - Sublime.
Your the first reactor to think Sublime on Jenny’s version I’ve also thought it from first listen!
