I've heard this song about 20 times and I'm amazed that I still pick up on new things every time I hear it. "London City, far from pretty, 2-0-0-5" I had been assuming that number was a postal code, but I just realized it's the year. It was foreshadowing the first 2 songs, because Jenny and Screech were 14 years old. 2005 + 14 = 2019. That's right around when the Tale of Jenny Screech was released.
I’ve heard this song far more than 20 times now and this is the first I’ve realized this. And I have dozens of friends in the UK. How did I not know? 😭🤣
Best reaction to this!!! I'm sorry Jay. I should of warned you but I didn't wanna ruin the story. Amazing and real reaction. Best ending because what can you say. Babies were put into the system. They never knew eachother. Poor mama violet is dead, stevie the dad in prison I'm sure. What a interwined tale that keeps your attention.
He’s so layered. Composition, storytelling, singing, rapping, beatboxing, guitar, vocal and facial expression, acting etc He shows an amazing understanding of acoustics. He plans to an unbelievable level of detail. It’s all paced out so carefully and yet it still feels very natural and unspoiled. There seems to be hidden meaning in almost everything. I’ve watch this so many times and I’m still finding something new. For example, I only just twigged that two zero zero five is not the postcode of London city (where I live postcodes are a series of 4 numbers). He’s actually foreshadowing the twist to the story. Sure there are many fantastic artist’s out there, some do different things even better than Ren; but no one person does it all. Btw: How spot on we’re his parents when they named him Ren! He is the literal definition of a renaissance man.
@@fibienn250 the two zero zero five was a clue. The tale of Jenny and the tale of Screech were both released in 2019. They were twins and we know Screech was a boy of 14 years old. 2019 minus 14 puts the year at 2005. Like a great detective whodunnit, the clues were all there. But to put them altogether the first time watching is tricky. =)
I find that he's also extremely powerful when he chooses to make eye contact with the camera... it's not talked about often, but his ability to connect when necessary is impeccable
For violets tale they took 20 takes and ended up with 6 or 7 full live takes to choose from. This one they chose was take #2. Ren did all the sound mixing on these videos as well. He said the sound mixing took a long time to get right on violets tail since each room and hallway had different acoustics.

As soon as you said "y'all didn't tell me it was sad bro...", my first thought was, Oh man, he has NO idea yet. Loved your visceral reactions throughout.....it hit you. (Like it did me) For "Screech's Tale", it seems that almost no one catches that Screech's girlfriend and his friend Patrick, happen to be "busy", or not available, at the same time. Consider why. Maybe they were together? Patrick wasn't home...was he with Screech's girl at her place and that's why she was "busy"? It adds a whole other layer to the story. Also consider that Jenny and Screech were born side by side, and essentially died side by side, one street apart. Born on the same day (2005), died on the same day (2019). An entire family, mother and twins that never knew each other, wiped out by a cycle of violence. An abused mother, a 14 year old prostitute, and a 14 year old thug/murderer. Powerful stuff. Not sure if you caught it or not, but he did all 3 songs in a single take each, just like "Hi Ren". In the "Violet's Tale", the way he uses the acoustics of his environment to accentuate the song is absolute brilliance. Did you catch how he rewound time with his guitar? The man is truly special.
Nowhere in the song does it say Jenny was prostitute. She was dragging her feet from a long day at work, she went that way a 1000 times before because she probably had to walk from work to home, and just because she had heels does not mean she was a prostitute. Her wanting to escape is entirely understandable just by knowing she was a poor kid in the system going to work after school. No need to speculate and invent more tragedy as nothing said confirms it or suggests it.
@@brandonS0001 Jenny a prostitute? Well it’s debatable. Ren’s choice of words can suggest she was. And it was based on a real article/story about the murder on a young prostitute. If she was a waitress or had another job she would have warn easy shoes no high heels, I suppose. She dragged her feet, she was tired because she did walk all evening long or stand all night long? She wanted to escape? The hood or the profession? Can you blame? No, you can’t, maybe she was forced into prostitution due to her living conditions or circumstances. The only one who knows the answer to all of this is Ren himself. And he wants us, listeners, to interpret his songs/works as we want or comprehend.
Generational cycles of violence and trauma. Jenny (frozen like a statue in high-heeled shoes) reacted much like her mother Violet (she stays silent.) I love this reaction so much. This is such a real and honest reaction. Because there is nothing to say. He expertly told these stories to become invested in each of the characters. Life isn’t fair though, things rarely are. And Ren destroys us all at the end.
You did an excellent reaction to this tale of tragedy. I got chills at the foreshadowing of his "crazy eyes" at the beginning of Violet's Tale. What I saw was him saying, "This is insane! How can this exist?! How can this be allowed to happen?!" The "this" of course is generational violence & trauma. He's pointing & saying, "Don't you see this?!"
You are the first reactor to this that I’ve watched so far who mentioned the reggae feel at the beginning of Jenny’s tale, and I’ve watched a lot of reactions to this - definitely loved yours!!!!! (He also has Spanish guitar and Baroque era influences in his music!!!)
I'm not sure if Ren was in hospital at that point but I will take bets on the fact that some hospital is missing one of its robes, and you can't say he hasn't made good use out of it
It's crazy when you realize that they take after their parents. Jenny's always quiet, does talk very much. And screech is easily angered and quick to violence. Just like Stevie
Great reaction! I kept waiting to see if you'd walk back in the room😂😂. It's definitely a tough one to handle if you get the twist at the end. You'd be surprised how many reactors don't get it, which always amazes me.
I agree with Melanie, best damn reaction to the trio I've seen, soooooo many reactors at the end don't put the pieces together cause they don't FUCKEN listen...... loved your energy in this.... 🔥 🔥 Reaction homie
I don't know if this is true but I think the reason of him being in the hospital for violets tale is because each chapter is played in the area described in the chapter (Jenny is in an alleyway and screech moves from the end of jennys chapter and walks to another alley one street over)
the most impressive part about violets tale is how Ren uses the building he was in as an instrument, each room and corridor having different resonances to them and the way he used it to his advantage
Yes, it's a tragic story. But how incredible is this amazing storytelling by Ren! He is such a talented performer! I am still on my Ren journey and enjoying it all! I hope you do too! Great reaction! Hope you recovered😊
You the boss you pause when you wanna pause. besides as long as you rewind a lil most people don't care they just wanna make sure you don't miss anything.
Most people don’t realize there’s even more backstory to this trilogy, that was laid out cleverly on Ren’s instagram. This video lays it out in its entirety, with the context in the description. It adds a whole new level of commitment to the story. ua-cam.com/video/BICvZAS1FR0/v-deo.htmlsi=KmEQvdcPGV-39biP
And 100% live. No voice over. He evidently decided he wanted to play one day and watched Jimi Hendrix videos on extreme slow mo and taught himself. He’s multi instrumental talented to boot. The acoustics in the building for Violets tale were amazing. His sweet vocals telling this dark story is an enigma for sure. Oh and can we give a shout out to his cinematographer (Ima guess that’s Samuel) I’m sitting here watching you all the while knowing how it ends. Your reactions were so raw and real.
Best reaction to the tales I've seen, seriously! You paused just often enough to show you were truly listening and absorbing the story and always went back so the story didn't get disjointed. That look at the camera after he "rewound" time on the guitar spoke volumes! I'm definitely gonna need to do a deep dive on your vids. Highly recommend one of the collabs Ren did with Chinchilla... Chalk Outlines (live). It's beautiful and nicely showcases his singing talent. 💜
Hidden subtext: 1- Jenny was a teen prostitute, that’s why she had walked the street 1000 times before 2- Screech’s girl and his friend Patrick were doing him dirty, that’s why there was no answer at Patrick’s door and his girl was “busy”…
I suspected Patrick was with screech ‘s girl. I wondered why she was wearing high heels late at night, what kind of job DID she have at 14?! But, now it makes sense, thanks. I’m slow sometimes
@@davidudel694yes I believe ren wrote jennys tale based on a newspaper article he read about a prostitute getting stabbed. Not sure about the Patrick and screech Mrs tho lol x

Great reaction bro. This is definitely a tough one, and your reaction was wholly appropriate for such a heavy topic. I've seen some reactors legit smile through the entire thing, and I'm like...huh??? Glad to see normal genuineness here.
I watched this video before and somehow failed to like or comment. I love your viewpoint as you do your work. Some things don't need to be said and you seem to be connected enough to your community that you know they get it.
In his Live shows he goes into more detail... like Jenny being a street walker, getting stopped by the cop Richard! Also... Patrick doesn't answer because he's Busy with his girl... the one he calls, being told she's Busy! He catches them... flips out... kills Jenny, then gets himeslf killed by the Cop, Richard, that his girl called when she got caught with Patrick! There's more... but I'll save that... as I see him making part 4... Richard's Tale! Maybe... Perhaps!?!

There's actually a little Instagram story that fills in a little bit of Screech's motivation. - - It was a viral push before the release of Screech's part. He faked his phone getting stolen so he got into a little trouble with it. - TLDR: He's desperate to get out of living with his dickhead dad so he wants money. Screech's best mate leaves him (the door he knocks on), his girlfriend leaves him (implied that the mate that left stole her), he chickens out during a big heist and leaves a mate in danger. Then he runs into Jenny while he has a knife from the heist.

I'm choking on my laughter trying to stay quiet right now haha... I had the same reaction the first time I heard this. Ren's a fucking performer and it doesn't matter how many times you watch The Tale of Jenny and Screech, it's never easy to watch. The first time, even less so, because you have no idea what's coming. I loved that you caught the emphasis on "it's such a shame," because yes.... that's the point. Completely senseless violence resulting in the loss of two 14-year-old lives. It was clear that you really felt for all characters involved, and I appreciated that very much. I'm pretty certain Ren said the inspiration for this was a news story in London in which a 14-year-old killed a prostitute and then was shot to death by police (which, in the song, it's implied Jenny is a prostitute, even at 14... she's walking around late at night in heels, wanting to escape her life) and the absurdity of the violence disturbed him. That said, the triptych itself is about the cyclical nature of domestic violence, I think. Jenny was silent and afraid like her mom, and Screech was violent and unrestrained like his dad. Their dad killed their mom, and then Screech killed his sister. "History repeats itself" indeed.
I've heard this song about 20 times and I'm amazed that I still pick up on new things every time I hear it.

I love at like 4:10 when you’re like “screech! Leave her alone! She’s got her own shit” 😂😂😂
A very fun and insightful reaction!
I'm not sure if Ren was in hospital at that point but I will take bets on the fact that some hospital is missing one of its robes, and you can't say he hasn't made good use out of it
"Like an elvin forest with magical dust in the air" will be a lyric in a Sword-Rock song I'm writing. You'll be credited.
Bro this was also my favorite reaction to this by one of my top favorite reactors !!!
“Magical dust in the air and shit” one of my favourite lines from a reaction 😂
It's crazy when you realize that they take after their parents. Jenny's always quiet, does talk very much. And screech is easily angered and quick to violence. Just like Stevie
Great reaction! I kept waiting to see if you'd walk back in the room😂😂. It's definitely a tough one to handle if you get the twist at the end. You'd be surprised how many reactors don't get it, which always amazes me.
Don't feel bad my friend, I've been playing the guitar for over 30 years and I wish I could do that. Lol.
"He crashin out bruh, knife to a gunfight. im sorry yall." best line ive heard to that
your reaction made me realise Ren, in place of where other writers would put a cliche', he comes up with something new to say the same thing
Ren is not singer. He's a painter. And his paintings are beautiful!
Ren is a modern Shakespeare, you've found the rabbit hole, now down you go, Sir 😊.
New sub here , love from Australia.
Thank you. This gets me every time.
I agree with Melanie, best damn reaction to the trio I've seen, soooooo many reactors at the end don't put the pieces together cause they don't FUCKEN listen...... loved your energy in this.... 🔥 🔥 Reaction homie
I don't know if this is true but I think the reason of him being in the hospital for violets tale is because each chapter is played in the area described in the chapter
(Jenny is in an alleyway and screech moves from the end of jennys chapter and walks to another alley one street over)
the most impressive part about violets tale is how Ren uses the building he was in as an instrument, each room and corridor having different resonances to them and the way he used it to his advantage
“He harmonising the fuck out of that shame” 😂 🙌🏻
One of the best reactions I've seen to this..and I've seen them all! Thank you.
Yes, it's a tragic story. But how incredible is this amazing storytelling by Ren! He is such a talented performer! I am still on my Ren journey and enjoying it all! I hope you do too! Great reaction! Hope you recovered😊
I always enjoy your reactions. This was a tough one to get through. Thanks for what you do.
I reacted the exact same way when it tragically came together. A tragedy of cycles of violence and systems

Oh and can we give a shout out to his cinematographer (Ima guess that’s Samuel)
I’m sitting here watching you all the while knowing how it ends. Your reactions were so raw and real.
Glad I found your channel. Thanks for sharing this amazing artist with the world. #renmakesmusic #RENaissance
I just realized when in the song Ren says " the devil comes to dance" prolongs the sound S like a snake
The way you just walked off at the end 😂
Ren Story Time for Adults. Ren will scramble up your Brains and you will go back for more. Great Reaction ❤
"I'm not gonna pause it much..."
Goes on to pause every 10 seconds 🤣
Quite possibly the best reaction to any song I've ever seen, thank you 👍
I think a headphone drop, walk off and end video is the sincerest form of flattery.
He keep harmonizing the fuck out that SHAME......😂😂😂
Hidden subtext:
1- Jenny was a teen prostitute, that’s why she had walked the street 1000 times before
2- Screech’s girl and his friend Patrick were doing him dirty, that’s why there was no answer at Patrick’s door and his girl was “busy”…
Thats a theory at best, right, if Jenny was a prostitute or did Ren say that she was?
I suspected Patrick was with screech ‘s girl. I wondered why she was wearing high heels late at night, what kind of job DID she have at 14?! But, now it makes sense, thanks. I’m slow sometimes
@@davidudel694yes I believe ren wrote jennys tale based on a newspaper article he read about a prostitute getting stabbed. And at the end when he says it’s such a shame, is because he couldn’t believe the story was only on page six of the paper and they actually the words it’s such a shame.
Not sure about the Patrick and screech Mrs tho lol x
I'm 8 months behind on this, but holy fuck. The first time I heard the song, I had to listen to it a second time to make sure I heard EVERY thing this song said...your reaction is exactly how I felt the first time. I teared up and just had to contemplate the whole song...thank you, for being genuine.
Maybe... Perhaps!?!
Best reaction I've ever seen. Reminds me of my first time.
I love your reaction especially when you pause the video to speak and just talk over the song ❤❤
"Sound mythical bro" 😂😂 like your reaction to this, bloody love me some Ren ❤
Just epic... new sub after this... I can't wait to see what's next
I think you’re the only reaction content creator I’ve gone back and watched multiple times without realizing it. Lol
You mirror my own reactions to his music so perfectly. Props bro.
Hi…my new hobby has become watching people react to REN… I loved your reaction to this trilogy… I’m now a new subscriber to your channel… hope you do more ren reactions … I enjoyed listening to you and watching your facial expressions… thank you
You My Bro. Man with 3 names here. I SO GLAD YOU FINALLY GOT ROUND TO THIS. Your about to go down the rabbithole again for sure. EDIT... got to the end and you feel how everybody feels the first time hearing this. Emotionally drained. Whatever frewuency this palys out on, its the emotion trigger one. This whole story kicks me in the feels every time
man i really enjoyed this reaction to Ren got yourself a new sub!!! man is so talented he can do anything musically..
Ren is the Master that tells everyone to sit down, pay attention and feel whatever it is that he wants you to !
I have the upmost respect for your reaction to the ending even tho I wanted to see how it made you feel but that 2 seconds at the end told me everything much love keep grinding
Most honest reaction I've seen.
and I've seen a lot.
This broke me the first time and still does every time.
Was waiting for this one. Was not disappointed. Great reaction to a great performance!!
Wow first reactor I've say they're speechless and ACTUALLY be speechless
Oh Man Jay, should’ve warned you. No happy ending
Watch Rens band The Big Push do Bongo Bong cover.
That’ll cheer you
Matter of fact react to it if you haven’t it’s nice 👍
Great reaction my friend
"THE LAST THINGS YOU SEE WILL BE A BOY CALLED"
"Screech reached for the sheaf...."
One of the best transitions I've ever heard, so glad you rewound it.
It's fk'in 🔥🔥
Outstanding reaction. This trilogy is unreal on all musical levels. Ren is god.
There's actually a little Instagram story that fills in a little bit of Screech's motivation.
-
- It was a viral push before the release of Screech's part. He faked his phone getting stolen so he got into a little trouble with it.
-
TLDR: He's desperate to get out of living with his dickhead dad so he wants money. Screech's best mate leaves him (the door he knocks on), his girlfriend leaves him (implied that the mate that left stole her), he chickens out during a big heist and leaves a mate in danger. Then he runs into Jenny while he has a knife from the heist.
Ren does a great reggae cover with the band The Big Push of I shot the sheriff/road to Zion. Please check it out, you will not be disappointed.
I agree! Lol I felt the same way!!! Thank u for cheering me up , watching u react was as much fun as listening to Ren 4 the 1st time 😊
this one was tough. Ren has some super uplifting songs too.
my prescription to you is Rens band the big push
they do a cover of Bob Marley's I shot the sheriff road to Zion and hip hop.
that will bring you back to the zen zone and feeling good!
♥️🎶🙏🎶♥️
This is why I subscribed! Your reactions are always on point and exactly how I'd react.
Headphone drop and walk away. That’s all we can do when experiencing this tragedy 😢
Our beloved Brighton Bard strikes again 🤯 His storytelling is unmatched, haunting and vivid to perfection
Great reaction. I am so hooked on reactions to that final line. Doesn't get old ever 🫣
I haven’t even finished your reaction yet… BUT… its my favourite reaction I have seen by far… and I’ve watched a lot 🙈 Ren is a wordsmith worth of ”bard-ship” (I’m aware I just made up word/term 😂 ) - thank you for your reaction ❤
Warren G & Nate Dogg - Regulators. He takes inspiration from a lot of great influences in his music!
Reggae/Ska is much more in mainstream musical culture here than in the US. Good reaction bruv.
Brilliant reaction! I could really feel how much you enjoyed this. Thanks.
His pre song yodeling just get you in the place you need to be for the song… noticed the tone in others and where he wants to take you
Yo you alright? We are here with you, feeling the same feelings. Thanks for your reaction. Heavy man
It would be insane if they made a movie to this. He is absolutely amazing
Heart wrenching story. I heard this before, but wanted to see your reaction. Thank you for doing this. That was deep, sometimes there's just nothing to say. I felt your emotions here. Best reaction. God bless
Oh I knew you’d get to this sometime soon. It really socks you in the gut and breaks your heart. Ren is brilliant. ❤️🔥
My husband says you have great demeanor, and I think you're just amazing what a great reaction thank you for sharing ❤
Absolute best reaction I've seen to this track. Jay doesn't just listen, he invests himself in the story. He really feels it.
