I've heard this song about 20 times and I'm amazed that I still pick up on new things every time I hear it. "London City, far from pretty, 2-0-0-5" I had been assuming that number was a postal code, but I just realized it's the year. It was foreshadowing the first 2 songs, because Jenny and Screech were 14 years old. 2005 + 14 = 2019. That's right around when the Tale of Jenny Screech was released.
I’ve heard this song far more than 20 times now and this is the first I’ve realized this. And I have dozens of friends in the UK. How did I not know? 😭🤣
For me, it was when he revealed they were twins, and the realisation that he said Screech was only 14 when he killed Jenny. That means Jenny was "walking the streets in high-heeled shoes," who "wanted to escape," suggesting she was a prostitute at 14, too! 😢
I find that he's also extremely powerful when he chooses to make eye contact with the camera... it's not talked about often, but his ability to connect when necessary is impeccable
Best reaction to this!!! I'm sorry Jay. I should of warned you but I didn't wanna ruin the story. Amazing and real reaction. Best ending because what can you say. Babies were put into the system. They never knew eachother. Poor mama violet is dead, stevie the dad in prison I'm sure. What a interwined tale that keeps your attention.
He’s so layered. Composition, storytelling, singing, rapping, beatboxing, guitar, vocal and facial expression, acting etc He shows an amazing understanding of acoustics. He plans to an unbelievable level of detail. It’s all paced out so carefully and yet it still feels very natural and unspoiled. There seems to be hidden meaning in almost everything. I’ve watch this so many times and I’m still finding something new. For example, I only just twigged that two zero zero five is not the postcode of London city (where I live postcodes are a series of 4 numbers). He’s actually foreshadowing the twist to the story. Sure there are many fantastic artist’s out there, some do different things even better than Ren; but no one person does it all. Btw: How spot on we’re his parents when they named him Ren! He is the literal definition of a renaissance man.
@@fibienn250 the two zero zero five was a clue. The tale of Jenny and the tale of Screech were both released in 2019. They were twins and we know Screech was a boy of 14 years old. 2019 minus 14 puts the year at 2005. Like a great detective whodunnit, the clues were all there. But to put them altogether the first time watching is tricky. =)

For violets tale they took 20 takes and ended up with 6 or 7 full live takes to choose from. This one they chose was take #2. Ren did all the sound mixing on these videos as well. As soon as you said "y'all didn't tell me it was sad bro...", my first thought was, Oh man, he has NO idea yet. Loved your visceral reactions throughout.....it hit you. (Like it did me) For "Screech's Tale", it seems that almost no one catches that Screech's girlfriend and his friend Patrick, happen to be "busy", or not available, at the same time. Consider why. Maybe they were together? Patrick wasn't home...was he with Screech's girl at her place and that's why she was "busy"? It adds a whole other layer to the story. Also consider that Jenny and Screech were born side by side, and essentially died side by side, one street apart. Born on the same day (2005), died on the same day (2019). An entire family, mother and twins that never knew each other, wiped out by a cycle of violence. An abused mother, a 14 year old prostitute, and a 14 year old thug/murderer. Powerful stuff. Not sure if you caught it or not, but he did all 3 songs in a single take each, just like "Hi Ren". In the "Violet's Tale", the way he uses the acoustics of his environment to accentuate the song is absolute brilliance. Did you catch how he rewound time with his guitar? The man is truly special.
Nowhere in the song does it say Jenny was prostitute. She was dragging her feet from a long day at work, she went that way a 1000 times before because she probably had to walk from work to home, and just because she had heels does not mean she was a prostitute. Her wanting to escape is entirely understandable just by knowing she was a poor kid in the system going to work after school. No need to speculate and invent more tragedy as nothing said confirms it or suggests it.
@@brandonS0001 Jenny a prostitute? Well it’s debatable. Ren’s choice of words can suggest she was. And it was based on a real article/story about the murder on a young prostitute. She walked the floor… floor as in the street was her work-floor? Prostitutes are also called streetwalkers. What kind of work did she do with high heels on? If she was a waitress or had another job she would have warn easy shoes no high heels, I suppose. She dragged her feet, she was tired because she did walk all evening long or stand all night long? She wanted to escape? The hood or the profession? Can you blame? No, you can’t, maybe she was forced into prostitution due to her living conditions or circumstances. Jenny felt scared when she walked that night and not the other nights. Why? Because she knew the streets, she knew the safe places, maybe because it was her work territory? The only one who knows the answer to all of this is Ren himself. And he wants us, listeners, to interpret his songs/works as we want or comprehend.

Generational cycles of violence and trauma. Jenny (frozen like a statue in high-heeled shoes) reacted much like her mother Violet (she stays silent.) Screech is abusive and aggressive like his father Stevie. Those cycles continued even though the twins didn't know their parents. The saddest thing is that this isn't some crazy made up fairy tale. It happens everyday.
@@susanmarshall9118yeah but it's also implied that Stevie was r4p1ng her like her dad did. Or at the very least some form of sexual abuse. Which could be the case.
Except the babies aren’t Stevie’s. Violet’s children are also Violet’s siblings... this is how Violet gets that welfare flat and crummy job stacking shelves. Why do you think Violet falls fast for Stevie, except that she didn’t have much time before she began to show, and why do you think Stevie calls her a liar, but because he knows that he didn’t make her pregnant, and I am betting she didn’t tell Stevie what her dad did to her, and tried to claim he was her first. He was the first she chose anyway. Either that or she DID tell him exactly what happened and it is so bad that even Stevie who also beats her refuses to believe she was raped by her own father, decides she must be a slut. Even though REN doesn’t exactly say it, the word choices give their own clues. The system that was supposed to protect her did a crummy job, not just for her kids but her too. To me, that is part of what the “it’s such a shame” means. Rather like “thoughts and prayers” the system voices sympathy but the help they provide is inadequate and next to nothing, allowing the cycle to continue instead of breaking it. This is a Greek tragedy of a tale, and what Greek tragedy is complete without incest and fratricide? It is a modern day twist on Oedipus…
It's crazy when you realize that they take after their parents. Jenny's always quiet, does talk very much. And screech is easily angered and quick to violence. Just like Stevie
Here months later. I've heard this song so many times & there is more trauma to release Ebro time. Your reaction was healing in its authenticity & genuine empathy. Just a shout out. We all are in this together. Ren speaks the human condition & allows human emotional evolution. So, thanks for doing your part! 🙏🏻🫡💗 #AllTogetherNow #AllForOne #FreePalestine #FreeCongo #FreeSudan #FreeAfrica #FreeTheWorld ❤
You are the first reactor to this that I’ve watched so far who mentioned the reggae feel at the beginning of Jenny’s tale, and I’ve watched a lot of reactions to this - definitely loved yours!!!!! (He also has Spanish guitar and Baroque era influences in his music!!!)
You did an excellent reaction to this tale of tragedy. I got chills at the foreshadowing of his "crazy eyes" at the beginning of Violet's Tale. What I saw was him saying, "This is insane! How can this exist?! How can this be allowed to happen?!" The "this" of course is generational violence & trauma. He's pointing & saying, "Don't you see this?!"
the most impressive part about violets tale is how Ren uses the building he was in as an instrument, each room and corridor having different resonances to them and the way he used it to his advantage
Great reaction! I kept waiting to see if you'd walk back in the room😂😂. It's definitely a tough one to handle if you get the twist at the end. You'd be surprised how many reactors don't get it, which always amazes me.
And 100% live. No voice over. He evidently decided he wanted to play one day and watched Jimi Hendrix videos on extreme slow mo and taught himself. He’s multi instrumental talented to boot. The acoustics in the building for Violets tale were amazing. His sweet vocals telling this dark story is an enigma for sure. Oh and can we give a shout out to his cinematographer (Ima guess that’s Samuel) I’m sitting here watching you all the while knowing how it ends. Your reactions were so raw and real.
I'm 8 months behind on this, but holy fuck. The first time I heard the song, I had to listen to it a second time to make sure I heard EVERY thing this song said...your reaction is exactly how I felt the first time. I teared up and just had to contemplate the whole song...thank you, for being genuine.

Best reaction to the tales I've seen, seriously! You paused just often enough to show you were truly listening and absorbing the story and always went back so the story didn't get disjointed. That look at the camera after he "rewound" time on the guitar spoke volumes! I'm definitely gonna need to do a deep dive on your vids. Highly recommend one of the collabs Ren did with Chinchilla... Chalk Outlines (live). It's beautiful and nicely showcases his singing talent. 💜
I agree with Melanie, best damn reaction to the trio I've seen, soooooo many reactors at the end don't put the pieces together cause they don't FUCKEN listen...... loved your energy in this.... 🔥 🔥 Reaction homie
I don't know if this is true but I think the reason of him being in the hospital for violets tale is because each chapter is played in the area described in the chapter (Jenny is in an alleyway and screech moves from the end of jennys chapter and walks to another alley one street over)
I think you’re the only reaction content creator I’ve gone back and watched multiple times without realizing it. Lol You mirror my own reactions to his music so perfectly. Props bro.

I'm not sure if Ren was in hospital at that point but I will take bets on the fact that some hospital is missing one of its robes, and you can't say he hasn't made good use out of it
Great reaction bro. This is definitely a tough one, and your reaction was wholly appropriate for such a heavy topic. I've seen some reactors legit smile through the entire thing, and I'm like...huh??? Glad to see normal genuineness here.

Such a beautiful and genuine reaction! I felt the same way, as many of us did I’m sure. It is quite incredible that in 14 min he can introduce develop and tell a story involving 3 people and manage to get you so attached that you felt true loss for them. I have watched 2 hr movies and not found the same attachment to a character. I’m late to finding Ren myself and only starting down your page. I hope when I reach the end I find your still doing Ren reactions cause you have a good ear for it, great energy, and there is lots of ren to dig into! Hope this message finds you well. Thanks for a great video!
I love watching reactions to these songs. I always like watching dude's face when he gets to the knocking part of Violet's tale. It gives me hope for humanity, because pretty much every guy gets REAL quiet during that part. The vast majority are like you, mean mugging. We all get mad. We don't like what we're hearing. Which is also a testament to Ren's performance, he invokes an emotion to his listeners... Which is the purest form of art.
I keep coming back to watch your reaction to this. It's obvious how much you feel the story as it evolves and your reaction is just so genuine. It's how I (and I'm sure the majority of people) feel at the end, speechless and forever affected. ❤

Your stops make the reaction better not irritating. You're appreciation is appreciated. I've seen a lot of these reactions and yours is my new favorite. I hope you did "Hi Ren". @@susanmarshall9118yeah but it's also implied that Stevie was r4p1ng her like her dad did. Or at the very least some form of sexual abuse. Which could be the case.
My brain was hurting. Thank you for helping me clear up who was who awesome video
Bro this was also my favorite reaction to this by one of my top favorite reactors !!!
Reggae/Ska is much more in mainstream musical culture here than in the US. Good reaction bruv.
It took me like 20 minutes to gather my thoughts after hearing this one the first time.
Thank you. This gets me every time.
Ren is a modern Shakespeare, you've found the rabbit hole, now down you go, Sir 😊.
New sub here , love from Australia.
“He harmonising the fuck out of that shame” 😂 🙌🏻
I think a headphone drop, walk off and end video is the sincerest form of flattery.
One of the best reactions I've seen to this..and I've seen them all! Thank you.
the most impressive part about violets tale is how Ren uses the building he was in as an instrument, each room and corridor having different resonances to them and the way he used it to his advantage
“Magical dust in the air and shit” one of my favourite lines from a reaction 😂
Great reaction! I kept waiting to see if you'd walk back in the room😂😂. It's definitely a tough one to handle if you get the twist at the end. You'd be surprised how many reactors don't get it, which always amazes me.
The way you just walked off at the end 😂
I love your reaction especially when you pause the video to speak and just talk over the song ❤❤
Ren is not singer. He's a painter. And his paintings are beautiful!
"Sound mythical bro" 😂😂 like your reaction to this, bloody love me some Ren ❤
His theatrical performance is simply beautiful no need for fancy visuals with the genius of Ren
"He crashin out bruh, knife to a gunfight. im sorry yall." best line ive heard to that
I always enjoy your reactions. This was a tough one to get through. Thanks for what you do.
Oh and can we give a shout out to his cinematographer (Ima guess that’s Samuel)
I’m sitting here watching you all the while knowing how it ends. Your reactions were so raw and real.
your reaction made me realise Ren, in place of where other writers would put a cliche', he comes up with something new to say the same thing
I'm 8 months behind on this, but holy fuck. The first time I heard the song, I had to listen to it a second time to make sure I heard EVERY thing this song said...your reaction is exactly how I felt the first time. I teared up and just had to contemplate the whole song...thank you, for being genuine.
Quite possibly the best reaction to any song I've ever seen, thank you 👍
Glad I found your channel. Thanks for sharing this amazing artist with the world. #renmakesmusic #RENaissance
Ren is the Master that tells everyone to sit down, pay attention and feel whatever it is that he wants you to !
Hi…my new hobby has become watching people react to REN… I loved your reaction to this trilogy… I’m now a new subscriber to your channel… hope you do more ren reactions … I enjoyed listening to you and watching your facial expressions… thank you
Best reaction to the tales I've seen, seriously!
I don't know if this is true but I think the reason of him being in the hospital for violets tale is because each chapter is played in the area described in the chapter
(Jenny is in an alleyway and screech moves from the end of jennys chapter and walks to another alley one street over)
I think you’re the only reaction content creator I’ve gone back and watched multiple times without realizing it. Lol
You mirror my own reactions to his music so perfectly. Props bro.
"THE LAST THINGS YOU SEE WILL BE A BOY CALLED"
"Screech reached for the sheaf...."
One of the best transitions I've ever heard, so glad you rewound it.
It's fk'in 🔥🔥
I watched this video before and somehow failed to like or comment. I love your viewpoint as you do your work. Some things don't need to be said and you seem to be connected enough to your community that you know they get it.
I love how he “rewinds” with his guitar strings. Such talent. Not to mention it’s live and he uses the different rooms/stairwells for different acoustics. Ugh. So good
You My Bro. Man with 3 names here. I SO GLAD YOU FINALLY GOT ROUND TO THIS. Your about to go down the rabbithole again for sure. EDIT... got to the end and you feel how everybody feels the first time hearing this. Emotionally drained. Whatever frewuency this palys out on, its the emotion trigger one. This whole story kicks me in the feels every time
Just epic... new sub after this... I can't wait to see what's next
man i really enjoyed this reaction to Ren got yourself a new sub!!! man is so talented he can do anything musically..
Yes, it's a tragic story. But how incredible is this amazing storytelling by Ren! He is such a talented performer! I am still on my Ren journey and enjoying it all! I hope you do too! Great reaction! Hope you recovered😊
Most honest reaction I've seen.
and I've seen a lot.
This broke me the first time and still does every time.
I agree! Lol I felt the same way!!! Thank u for cheering me up , watching u react was as much fun as listening to Ren 4 the 1st time 😊
Best reaction on the whole internet. Love it.
Ren Story Time for Adults. Ren will scramble up your Brains and you will go back for more. Great Reaction ❤
Was waiting for this one. Was not disappointed. Great reaction to a great performance!!
His pre song yodeling just get you in the place you need to be for the song… noticed the tone in others and where he wants to take you
I'm not sure if Ren was in hospital at that point but I will take bets on the fact that some hospital is missing one of its robes, and you can't say he hasn't made good use out of it
Great reaction bro. This is definitely a tough one, and your reaction was wholly appropriate for such a heavy topic. I've seen some reactors legit smile through the entire thing, and I'm like...huh??? Glad to see normal genuineness here.
One of the best reactions ive seen. The dropping the headphones and walking away at the end was perfect. What else is there to say. Ren gave a master class in storytelling. ❤
Outstanding reaction. This trilogy is unreal on all musical levels. Ren is god.
I have the upmost respect for your reaction to the ending even tho I wanted to see how it made you feel but that 2 seconds at the end told me everything much love keep grinding
One of my favorite reactions by anyone to anything. Thank you, sir, for letting me relive an aged gem for the first time, again. ❤
"Like an elvin forest with magical dust in the air" will be a lyric in a Sword-Rock song I'm writing. You'll be credited.
My husband says you have great demeanor, and I think you're just amazing what a great reaction thank you for sharing ❤
Best reaction I've ever seen. Reminds me of my first time.
This is why I subscribed! Your reactions are always on point and exactly how I'd react.
Hands down the best reaction to this masterpiece and I've seen many.
Credit due.
I'm a year late to this party, and I rarely watch reaction videos, but I've found myself down this ren reaction rabbit hole. I had to come back here 12 hours after watching to tell you this was my favourite reaction. When I find myself thinking about it as I try to sleep and start giggling. I needed to come back haha
Wow first reactor I've say they're speechless and ACTUALLY be speechless
Heart wrenching story. I heard this before, but wanted to see your reaction. Thank you for doing this. That was deep, sometimes there's just nothing to say. I felt your emotions here. Best reaction. God bless
Our beloved Brighton Bard strikes again 🤯 His storytelling is unmatched, haunting and vivid to perfection
Great reaction. I am so hooked on reactions to that final line. Doesn't get old ever 🫣
Best reaction to this Master Piece I've seen!!! You killed it Bro!!!
Don't feel bad my friend, I've been playing the guitar for over 30 years and I wish I could do that. Lol.
I usually don't like so many stops because people rattle on about what they think and it pulls you out of the story but you say a quick sentence and rewind to appreciate and savor the art.
Your stops make the reaction better not irritating. You're appreciation is appreciated.
I've seen a lot of these reactions and yours is my new favorite. I hope you did "Hi Ren". I'm watching it next if you did.
Respect. Subscribed. Thanks for the reaction, man.
Your reaction is like how many feel, every time I hear this it brings a tear to my eye. Ren is a truly fantastic artist
I’ve watched countless reactions to this and this was one of the best! The first I’ve seen who was Literally speechless!! 😂
It would be insane if they made a movie to this. He is absolutely amazing
Brilliant reaction! I could really feel how much you enjoyed this. Thanks.
Oh I knew you’d get to this sometime soon. It really socks you in the gut and breaks your heart. Ren is brilliant. ❤️🔥
Just found your channel. I cried watching it the first time.. and every other time my heart hurt like crazy. Your reaction was one of the best ones I've ever seen.
Best reaction yet to this! 👏👏👏👏
