Check out Fitzgerald rods out of Florida, online. Read the reviews & check prices. Bass fisherman overlook inshore rods which are great for freshwater. They're lighter overall and strong! Daiwa makes 'em too and most all rod makers. These brands are over hyped due to marketing $$'s.
I do agree with you and all of the other similar comments but anyone coming into this video had to assume it was going to be all 13 fishing. Being sponsored or partnered, whatever it is, with them means he probably doesn't even touch other rod brands anymore let alone fish them enough to have a valid opinion on them.

Love some of these comments complaining about his favorite rods actually being the rods that he uses...lol. The title clearly states "My Favorite..." Of course he is talking about all 13 Fishing rods. Should he claim some other brand as a favorite if he doesn't actually use it? It's really not that difficult to understand.
I got a few Fate Chromes earlier this year and love them. Especially my 7’3” M/H that I used for jigs and Carolina rigs and I just picked up a 6’10” Medium Fate Black spinning rod at Gander for $75 with coupons. Looking forward to fishing it this weekend.
I used to use a lot of Abu Garcia rods and they are really excellent. The main thing with Abu is if they say fast action by god they mean it lol. For some techniques that is a good thing. I like the fate chromes for a lot of techniques but I find they have a softer action across the board so for a jig rod I went elsewhere and there heavy rod is probably gonna become a dedicated swimbait rod

I'm still using Black out rods that 13 fishing discontinued over a year ago and they have been the best rod I can buy for the money. Fate chrome rods are just an upgrade for $79.99.
I love my fate chrome's got 7'3" med Hvy and 7'9" cranking caught my pb 10.2 lb on a small public lake with tons of pressure. I like the fate blacks but I wish they had the black color just too dang bright for me. Oh yeah the handle lengths are perfect not too long like some of the ducketts.

This is practical information to me in purchasing my next rod and what baits I'll use with it. What I would like to know is what lb. line you had on each specific rod you showed us. I think one of the issues people are having is that diversity of manufacturers is expected in a “5 favorite” type of fishing equipment video. It is possible that all of your favorite equipment is made by one company but for most experienced anglers who have used many brands, it is common to have favorites from all over the fishing market. Take pros for example, they have there sponsors but quietly use equipment from non sponsors in tournaments also because there sponsors sometimes don’t have the same quality of product. With that said, when it comes to rods, i just build my own and its cheaper. People think its hard but it only takes a few pieces of equipment and it saves a ton of money in the long run. I litterally just had my 7’3 (cranking rod) fate Crome medium/ moderate action snap on me with a 2 lb bass about 10inchs from the tip even had it in my hand when it snapped guiding a fish to my boat. I hope they warranty for me I love the rod.

I’m just gonna put this out there. Sponsorships are the way this industry pays the people we all enjoy watching fishing! That goes for Gene as well as for KVD or Iconelli. I like his content always have and he has always been objective on equipment even if it is from a sponsor. I think some people and I’m not just talking about this instance but in general think if you take sponsorship money you have somehow sold your soul. I use mostly fate chrome rods with a sprinkle of Lews and Kistler but only use Abu Garcia reels. If somebody asks me I would say Abu Garcia are the best but that was a conclusion I came to over time that does not mean I sold out to Abu Garcia. Keep the vids coming Fluke

What would you recommend as an all'round baitcasting rod and reel for a total beginner in thi style? I know the title says “favorite” instead of best rods under 100. 13 tackle makes a pretty good rod at that price point, but do to sensitivity issues, they would not be mine for techniques requiring sensitivity. I’ve used there fast tip MH and H in 3 different lengths. For the money I would go with a ducket ghost, fenwick hmg, falcon bucoo, or a Powell inferno to name a few.
Have you looked at the new ranger rt188 boats? I saw one in person at my local tackle shop that just started selling boats. I love the look of it and is a big upgrade from a 2000 bass tracker. If you've seen one how does it compare to your alumacraft? This same tackle shop was just approved to be an alumacraft dealer but doesn't have any in stock.
Budget fishing with Doe. The inception looks good. I’ve only got a spinning reel from 13. I broke two of the blackout tips with normal use last year. I bought a couple of St Croix rods as replacements and I love them. Paired them with some Lews LFS reels and I’ve been satisfied. May give 13 another try.
I will not jump on the band wagon and fault you for repping 13 as your favorite even if you have a contract with that brand; I am sure they are genuinely your favorite. I am sponsored by a rod and reel brand but will tell you that the best rods I’ve ever used are Lew’s TP1 Speed Stick Spinning and Baitcasting and a Shakespeare UglyStik Elite. These rods are bulletproof and can handle anything. They are sensitive yet have a great backbone, the guides are strong and keep away wind knots. I have great confidence in them that I can horse any fish out without fear of breaking the rod. They are also under $100.
I believe it does not take integrity away to give an honest opinion. Being a sponsored athlete will make you brand loyal either out of love for the actual product or out of contractual obligation. I do not believe Gene is a person who can be bought. He genuinely loves 13 products or he would not risk his reputation in representing that brand. We, as an audience, watch people like him for advice, knowledge and entertainment. He is providing such a service and has done so to the best of his ability. Maybe he is not the best example of an unbiased review, however, that does not compromise his integrity.
Bought a medheavy mod fast St. Croix rod a while ago. It says it's a " light flip and pitch" rod. I see you use that for spinners chatter and buzz baits. It's rated from 3/8 to 1 1/14. What's your thoughts?

@@kriskirton1988 mojos are fun and work great. I'm a fan of lews speed sticks, but that's just me. A lot of my friends use dobyns fury. Most things around $100-$150 are comparable and should hold up fine.

You and all the rest know that there are much better rods out there that would have made this more believable. Your channel used to be informative, where I went to to learn about new techniques and products. This makes me feel like I'm watching 13 fishing version of QVC.

Seven foot medium heavy is an extremely versatile great boat rod.
Let me say the Abu Garcia Veritas is a phenomenal rod for the money, $99. I use quite a few. They tend to be a touch heavy tho

I have several of the No.8 tackle rods and a few 13 rods, but the glow stick green I just can’t do. They’re really kinda ugly.....

That's why I tried to put emphasis on the length, action, and power. So people could find their favorite brand and try to match the rod.

Hey, fluke master, so I love bass fishing and just starting to really getting into my rod and reels to get upgraded, but I don’t have all the money i wish I did. So I know UA-cam say get an Heavy action for weed get a medium- heavy to go do blah blah blah. I wonder in your opinion what’s the best all around action for all fishing?
I only use heavy for deep cranks and thick brush/grass. Just go with a 7' F tip MH action
William Morris alright, is there any certain rod you can think of? I have been thinking about getting an st. Croix Mojo bass rod paired with an Shimano SLX Xt reel that goes 7.1
@@kriskirton1988 mojos are fun and work great. I'm a fan of lews speed sticks, but that's just me. A lot of my friends use dobyns fury. Most things around $100-$150 are comparable and should hold up fine.
William Morris okay, I have a budget on myself 150 max for rod and same for reel. So I’m just trying to build my first baitcaster combo, I had one that was giving to me and it broke so I’m just building one to try to fit everything out there
@@kriskirton1988 hands down Lews laser mg $70-$80 is the best bang for your buck reel. Walmart has a hank parker MH rod for $40

Generally enjoy your stuff, but I’ve got to agree, this should have been labeled differently. This is not your typical or should I say older model of ‘best’ rather than ‘sponsored’ gear. These may well be great rods, but not what I’ve subscribed to see.
I enjoy watching your channel Gene, and still do, when they're honest videos. I was highly turned off when I watched this video. You and all the rest know that there are much better rods out there that would have made this more believable. Your channel used to be informative, where I went to to learn about new techniques and products. This makes me feel like I'm watching 13 fishing version of QVC.
I actually like it, this is some affordable stuff... I cant do the $300 fishing rods and feed a wife & 3 kids! This is the price range for me.
