Started running only two rods (a baitcaster and a spinning rod) about a year ago instead of about 7 in my Jon boat and honestly, I can't say I ever missed all my rods.
If i was only allowed 1 rod setup it would be right out of gate a 7ft medium heavy lews hank parker casting rod with a lews speed spool lfs with 15lb fluoro or 30lb braid(maybe a fluoro or mono leader) to cover every and all fishing techniques. Thats for jigs, topwater, lipless cranks or regular crankbaits, texas and weightless, and frog fishing in the 1/4oz frogs to the 3/8oz maybe 1/2oz frogs. Braided line you can get away 30lb braid with frogs perfectly fine as long as your aware of the vegetation your fishing.

I definitely pay attention to these pond videos,I live in the heart of Appalachia and I've got a whole series of very isolated mountain of ponds I'm fishing this year, boat isn't an option considering I've gotta hike about a mile though dense forrest just to get to them, the good thing is that all of these ponds are loaded with bass that aren't really pressured at all but they are very intelligent, they're huge and if they see you at all they won't hit anything
This looks like one of many soil conservation reservoirs in Texas. There are two in Denton that are on public land but they are so pressured, it’s difficult to catch anything. Maybe it will improve with the cooler temps.
It's a private pond that you have to have an annual membership and then pay a daily price to fish (typically around $120 a day). You get to fish the pond exclusively for the day you book. Very cool but can get spendy quick.
I break off 40lb to 15lb would do it all the time I moved up to 17-20 fluro on a 7’1 bassX med heavy I use for flipping light cover to spinner baits swim jigs and 30lb to 16lb on mostly all my other rods
Been loving your videos. Just got back into fishing after like 20 years. I’m looking into a bait caster right now. Any preference of lees Mach 2 combo or the mach crush combo? I picked up a Mach smash spinner solely based off of color and love it. Definitely sticking with lews for a while.
When I want to take just one rod. I take multiple reels with different lines and weights. And I simply change the rod. It can become a pain to cheange back and forth. But it is easier than dragging multiple rods. And of course the expense. You can use braid and do a leader like you said. But I try and avoid tying leader knots if I can. You can get pretty fast at changing reels. For me it is faster then tying a leader knot. And I don't have to worry about the leader knot breaking.
Agree 1000% with that comment….pressured pond like my pond He detain pond in Passaic county nj ,I always cast a lot further than most people due to braid and longer rod on my pond I fish intern…catch fish in areas that a lot of people don’t fish

New to bass fishing and I have 2 questions: Do you use a backing or just straight braid/leader? and next question is if there is a pole line rating does the 40 lb braid being over the rating matter as main line since the leader being less will just break off first? Thanks for the tips!
1. Lots of guys use different line setups for different things. I use straight braid (40-60) for topwater and very heavy cover applications like matter grass, and straight fluorocarbon for everything else. For spinning combos, however, I throw light braid to a light fluorocarbon leader 2. Those line ratings are for mono/fluoro, so just think about line diameter. If the rod can handle “20lb line”, it can also handle 65lb braid
