    As someone who has fished for years I think it’s great that you are starting at square one with these videos. Watching these as an experienced angler it really helps to simplify the way you fish. It Brings you back to the basics and can help break some of the habits you have developed . Thanks for the awesome videos! Keep up the good work

      Carter, if you want to get back to basics and pare things down, try kayak fishing. Three rods is about max and three small flats (with basically is in this video). Shuck the "aggregate tonnage" and just have fun. I'm in my mid 50's, been kayaking for the last five years and I still feel like I'm 12 again every single time I launch.

    As a 13 year old whose been fishing my whole life, this was helpful, I'm gonna start making a new tackle box soon, I've always just used worms and a hook for the most part, but I'm gonna start using lures and better hooks

      As a 55 year old who’s been fishing my whole life, I have spent enough on tackle to pay for a college education and yet I almost never go fishing without picking up some night crawlers and minnows unless I am ice fishing then you have to have waxies . But don’t get me wrong, I really love my selection of tackle as well as my rods and reels but I gotta tell ya, live bait is the best way to guarantee success. If I knew then what I know now, I would have spent a lot more time fishing and enjoying life. Nobody ever gets to the end of their life and says “gosh I wish I would have spent more time working”.

    • @jaquevius
      @jaquevius 4 роки тому +4

      Yep, live bait almost always guarantees more bites. Lures start to bring in more of a “sport or skill” aspect. If you can master fishing a soft plastic worm with a Texas rig, you will have the best go to bait for the rest of your life....and it’s fun. Spinner baits are versatile too so I agree with this video 100%. In the hot temps, fishing top water though as the sun rises or sets is the most fun however. That’s where a basic buzz bait comes in.

    When I was a kid, my grandmother would always take me out fishing at my uncle’s pond. She passed on a few years back, and I’ve been wanting to start fishing again as a way to reconnect and honor her memory. We would always just use worms that I’d gotten from her garden, so this video helped a lot with showing me what to look for in an actual tackle box. As soon as it starts to thaw out a bit, I’m definitely taking this advice. Thanks for the video!

    I just build a few basic tackle boxes for my brother and my brother in law for Father’s Day. All of these things were in the boxes I put together for them. Some other nice basic baits for a beginner box would include some inline spinners, a hallow body frog (for when the vegetation is just too thick to fish below the surface), a popper, a chatterbait, a jerkbait and some soft plastic swimbaits with keel weighted swimbait hook with a twist lock.

    I need to give you props sir, made a list of items to get from this video, made sure to get the strike king mini king spinnerbait. I have never used one successfully because I wasn't any good. Threw one the 1st time and had 2 hits and 2 fish in 10 mins. Watched your videos on how to fish them, and am stoked. I was using all the wrong tackle and colors. The chartreuse and white made all the difference. The fish weren't monsters. But I caught fish. Thank you sir!

    I usually catfish. The first time I caught a large mouth was in my dads friends pond he stocks when I was only 8. We ran out of worms I caught a sunny with the last one and I wasn't done fishing so I just tossed it back in the water every one kept telling me it's to big for this pond there's nothing that big in here a few minutes later I got a huge hit and when I said I had something they just thought it was the sunny pulling still until it really started to take my line I ended up reeling in a huge large mouth. He didn't even know it was in his pond.

    Folks Gene knows what he is talking about.. I have never even heard of a Niko rig until I watched one of Gene's Video's. I did exactly what he said to do and went to Lake Fork in Texas, which can be extremely hard to catch a Bass there, and I pulled out a Niko rig and caught a 2 and half pounder within 5 minutes, and my boss who is a long time bass fisherman caught nothing that day and nobody in the other dozen boats around us caught anything either. Thank you Gene, you are a great Teacher! So listen to him and you will catch fish.

Most (not trying so hard to appease his sponsors with that shirt, hat, and recommendations, or impress with how much he has) would have far greater success with a basic rod/reel, a few standard baitholder hooks, and a box of real (not plastic) worms or minnows (or, hell, even a piece of bacon).

      Dwight Stewart fishing isn't about success it's about having fun, and I'm pretty sure every single person here would say it's more fun to read the fish and use knowledge to fish with plastics than it is to just throw out a worm and a bobber.

    • @dwightstewart7181
      @dwightstewart7181 6 років тому

      Asher Q .. That's sheer nonsense. There's just as much skill, experience, and knowledge (and "fun") associated with float fishing as there is with any other form of fishing. For example, if you don't put that bait where the fish are, you're obviously not going to catch anything. And, with the right gear/bait, you don't need hundreds of dollars of cheap plastics.

  • @tebigman65
    @tebigman65 5 років тому +1

    The basics are the most important thing about bass fishing. Too many beginners run out and buy hundreds of different lures and baits and never take full advantage of most products. I personally like the pre-rigged combo baits that hold up under fishing conditions in brush and wooded areas. Two years ago I had some local kids learning to cast and fish for bass and caught some serious fish. Learning to be patient and present a lure right is as important as having the right combo for the occasion. Learning to distinguish water clarity comes with time. Locally I have been fish a eight inch ring worm with a 3-0 hook and landed some nice fish. Thanks for sharing!

    I’m an avid angler, but new to bass fishing. My first thought was to hang out in the fishing section, and ask questions about bass fishing, but just as with tackle, the advice is overwhelming. I took the advice of some local old timers, and started a bass box with their suggestions. I’ve since caught loads of white bass, and the biggest perch I’ve ever seen, but I just can’t seem to land the elusive largemouth. They are there, but finicky. My next thought was to look for some videos to give me better insight.. tricks, and tips. I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. You break everything down, and make it very simple to understand. After watching a few of your videos I’ve realized that, I just need to also simplify myself. You’ve taught me to look at my surroundings in a whole different way.

    Thanks for making this video, I’m a 29 year old guy and I only went fishing once and it was over 15 years ago. I decided to pick up fishing as a hobby since I’m sober now and living in Minnesota it’s great for fishing. But I literally spent 5 hours just trying to figure out how to set up the fishing pole and constantly cutting the line, setting it up again and stopping tangles it was the most frustrating thing ever

      Fish it like a texas rig or a jig. It comes through cover and over structure well.

    Thank you for these videos. I had never been bass fishing before but after this series I took my 4 year old daughter fishing yesterday and we caught it first bass together. She even caught hers all by herself. She casted she set the hook and she brought him in. On a green pumpkin trick worn on a Texas rig. She had to use her "my little pony" pole of course but she got it done. I'm so proud of her. You helped me learn so I could teach her. Thank you.

    Very helpful video. I really appreciate that you got granular - even showing specific hook sizes and packages. Can’t tell you the time I’ve spent scratching my head on the terminal tackle isle. I also started fishing with the Texas rig last year based on some of your videos and I’m learning more from there. Caught my first shakey head bass on Saturday. Thanks for all you do for the sport.

    50+ old female here; Thank you so much for sharing. I feel soooo 'inadequate'' not knowing much more than putting a worm on a hook. I get so overwhelmed with the amount of tackle available. I'm at a stage in my life where I just want to 'slow' down and 'smell the roses' sort-a-speak.

    This is a really good video! After watching years worth of your videos I have seen what works for you. I went out and got just about everything and didn't catch squat. I was frustrated and almost stopped fishing completely after a few months of trying and failing. I tried the Ned Rig and everything, yet still not one single bass. When I finally made it to a worm hook with a Zoom black Trick Worm on a Texas Rig I started slamming them. I had no idea that what you said on your old videos meant it works from a boat and not hardly from the bank. Now I can catch a bass on a bad day with the wrong weather. On a boat I can hit them, not as good as you seem to be, but good enough to never get skunked, all because of your videos. AND because of your teaching, I taught my 7 year old son and now he loves fishing. Last week he got a 7 pounder with a mouth so wide I pulled out the gut hook with my bare hands. THIS video is what no one on the internet seems to want to say to anyone. THIS is 100% perfect! Thank you Gene!

    Just moved to Georgia from Florida, so I’m going from a life long passion of saltwater fishing to freshwater, I’ve fished freshwater a few times before, caught two large mouth bass back to back on a frog lure, but I’m finding out there’s a lot to learn about freshwater fishing.
    Put some crayfish traps out yesterday, about to go check’em and throw some lures!

    Trick worm and a senko is all you need at the end of the day. Everything else is just a different approach to that. The worm is the original bass lure.
