Thanks for uploading these types of videos. Takes a lot of work to keep filming in different positions all whilst getting the job done and then editing and uploading. Much appreciated. Good call on the whole "not being a tutorial" decision. Way too technical a job for someone to attempt that hasn't done it before going off a youtube vid. As well as it potentially taking hours/days to even stitch a vid like that together.
4:25 Not criticizing you but you should have the brake caliper supported properly. Like a bungee cord attached to the shock absorber or coilover or whatever. It's not recommend to leave it dangling like that. It puts a lot of strain on the brake hose possibly leading to it breaking or becoming damaged.
James, was it the Z12XE engine? I've done an engine swap on a 2004 Corsa (it was the one I serviced in one of my videos) but I've not managed to get it running again. The replacement engine had no compression so I replaced the head gasket and it still doesn't run even though it now has compression. I carried the ECU over and the spanner light goes out when I crank it so it isn't the immobilizer.
Should you do the chain Same time as replacement of 2nd hand engine. No noise of replacement engine But is it good idea to do the chain. Wondering.ya or no
I just replaced engine in my car. (Australia) same type car called Holden combo and Barina 1.4 I left the gear box in the car. I lifted the engine till the sump was high enough so the engine sump would clear the frame when pulled out of the gearbox. Then I put a bar under the gearbox so it stayed in the upward position at the angle that the engine could clear the frame. That bar under the gearbox was attached to the car frame. When I put the engine back in the car I could not get the gearbox shaft to go into the clutch. So I got the clutch plate and with a file made V shape groves in the spline so the gearbox shaft would go in. I was working alone so it was still hard. But if there was someone to rotate the engine a bit it would align the gearbox shaft better. Also the manual tells that the engine had to be dropped out of the car rather than lifted and people told me the engine could not be lifted out so it shows that manuals don't always know. (And I also cut the heads off 2 bolts and cut a screwdriver slot in the end and I screwed them into the engine as a guide. They went into where the alignment guides were in the gearbox. I made the bolts about 2 inches long and as it happened I did not need a screwdriver, they just unscrewed by hand when the engine was in.
Just picked up a Corsa C, gear selection 1-2 and 3 goes in with a bit of a click and can be hard to engage sometimes, I'm guessing my gear linkage needs replacing? Ordered one just to eliminate it but also read it can also be the slave cylinder/ clutch adjustment, although the bite isn't low at all. Nice to see you working on a Corsa again mate :-)
Yea to be fair theyre a good bare bones car. I had a corsa D, the model after this one but it had a lot of issues. Partly my fault and partly the previous owners. The timing chain went which i put down to not changing the oil on time. It had a bad rod knock when cold. Head gasket also went in it, that one i did cause by driving it like an absolute tool. I will say though, it never left me on the side of the road, always brought me home. Actually drove it home when the chain rattled. Even when the head gasket went, i managed to limp it over to a mechanics place. Other than that, it always started and never gave any other issues. Fack thats a long comment. Anyways, theres my experience with a corsa. Enjoyed that little car
Great video thanks for making - I have a Tigra that needs the same job doin are you for hire?? if not how much shud I look to pay at a garage for same engine switch? how much u pay for ur new recon engine??
My Corsa starts on first crank, no horrid ticking sounds, even though I had an accident earlier this year, it was just damage to the bonnet, bumper and subframe. Even in the cold winter we had, started on first crank. The wet footwell is starting to take the piss though. Probably will trade into a Astra H SRi though if I can't get a good VXR example.
Hi been watching your Vids they are great love themm I am doing my own Service not a Mechanics but passed my pratiacal decades ago when i was in school got fair knowledge got some servicing parts for my Corsa 1.2 16 2003 Vehicle can yo tell me what tpye of Plugs , Air ilter to get got all of them but not to sure about the the Sparkplugs
hi mate,we just done a silmular swap,im just wondering wat u transfered off the old engine besides the ecu. we swapped the ecu but its not starting, sayin there is a problem wit a control module
Cool video, dont know much about cars myself, got the same corsa but engine light comes in, i have a electronic tool to turn it off but comes back on after 2 or 3 days, might have to finally have a look under the hood.
Hi James, great vid. How many miles did the donor engine have on it and if you don’t mind me asking, how much did it cost? Curious because I think I’m in the same situation with my 04 Corsa C. 😭
I find with doing them exhaust studs on the cat the trick is to heat them up but it's weather you have the equipment also there called drive shafts dude nice job good to watch
You need air tools and a air compressor. You made short work of it for hand wrenching it all. FYI - I think you put the steering wheel back on the wrong side and you are driving on the wrong side of the road!
I’m going engine change on my 1 litre corsa c and putting a 1.2 in it and having it on carbs will be some job but worth it :) ps why don’t you guys use impact guns and battery wrachets be saving a hell of a lot of time
Not sure about buying those 2nd engines from Wreckers they asking btw $1200 and $1650 in Aus for a Holden Barina/Opel Corsa C (Rebadged) engine as is and their is a waiting list for these Steel Chain engines.
In this video when engine is on idle rpm (on neutral, I can hear it in old and new engine after replace) I can hear some clicking noise. Noise can be compared to little metal ball inserted into shaker. I can hear it in my Astra J B14NET and most videos with Opel engines sound (for example ua-cam.com/video/NfDbXyJeAHE/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/rTAUrDJe1qY/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/CkDR2Q0NcU8/v-deo.html). I thought it is gearbox but in my car after pressing the clutch clicking noise is exactly the same. You can also hear it bend under the engine (from gearbox side). What is it? It could be dangerous?
GREYHOUND1874 completely unrelated to the work I did (head gasket and timing kit) whilst in her possession the oil leaked out and it was driven with 1 litre of oil in it for weeks killing the engine.
Nightmare mate, i wasn't having a go, appreciate your videos..typical cosra, u put loads of work into it then it asks for more..well done on the new engine video..best wishes from paul
sean B unfortunately not, it's been having low oil pressure issues for a while before the noises started.. on further inspection since recording the main bearings are f*cked
Rob White your obviously not smart enough to understand what i mean so ill explain it in pesant terms just for you .... If someone ( human ) likes a car ( those have engines that have many moving parts ) then the age of the car is irrelevant( this big word means ... It doesnt matter) ok soft lad now you go play with the lego in the corner like a good boy 👍😂👍😂👍😂
Hi thanks . Vauxhall are terrible cars very poor design . I have a Vauxhall corsa ecoflex 1.4 with head gasget failure because water pump bearings. This car is a 2016 car bought from new never driven nuts and cared for .crap dealership warranty 2 weeks out and they will not fix .car mechanic will not rebuild these engines because he does not want the problems. Only replace complete engine .The car was bought new for 13500 pounds of hard earned cash . Vauxhall I will never buy your car's again .Please people don't buy Vauxhall.
Thanks for uploading these types of videos. Takes a lot of work to keep filming in different positions all whilst getting the job done and then editing and uploading. Much appreciated.

Nice work mate like the vlog style car stuff 👍🏻 first clip sounded like a perfectly normal Vauxhall to me 😂
I burst out laighing when your dad pulled the whole oil stick out haha
4:25 Not criticizing you but you should have the brake caliper supported properly. Like a bungee cord attached to the shock absorber or coilover or whatever. How long did it take to replace and fit the engine.
Could you do video on how to jack up car properly with jack axle stands best place to jack up car safely.
Glad to see you back!

Have you checked for a spark and fuel supply to the engine
Should you do the chain
Same time as replacement of
2nd hand engine.
No noise of replacement engine
But is it good idea to do the chain.
Wondering.ya or no
Impact Gun could have saved you some time James, Use your tools to your advantage!

Is that an Astra G on ramp behind that corsa?
Worth doing as they are great little cars. Nice job and getting the old man involved as well lol
Yea to be fair theyre a good bare bones car. I had a corsa D, the model after this one but it had a lot of issues. Partly my fault and partly the previous owners. Can you remove the gearbox without taking out the engine?
YES YOU CAN
Yes with taking the subframe off
Great video thanks for making - I have a Tigra that needs the same job doin are you for hire?? if not how much shud I look to pay at a garage for same engine switch? how much u pay for ur new recon engine??

Can you put the 1.8 corsa engine in a body that was using a 1.4?
When swapping the engine over for the same. Did you have to update the V5 (logbook at all)
You should. Most people do not.
Did you pay a lot for the engine. How long did you take to replace it ?
Dddd Cccc £250 delivered 86k on it with all ancillaries :) we made a day of it we were finished by tea time
@@TheSavageGarage what website did you get the engine off?
Hi been watching your Vids they are great love themm I am doing my own Service not a Mechanics but passed my pratiacal decades ago when i was in school got fair knowledge got some servicing parts for my Corsa 1.2 16 2003 Vehicle can yo tell me what tpye of Plugs , Air ilter to get got all of them but not to sure about the the Sparkplugs
I'm sure that sounds like a stretched timing chain that needed replacing unless you hooked up an oil pressure gauge and diagnosed a bad oil pump.
@dyuneko maluleke cheap materials and wear on chain and gears over time.
Bit more than the chain gone wrong there. Have a listen back to that before and after comparison. You can hear a rod knock or piston slap
Are you using the focus, if you are do you think you will be modifiing it? Ps I have a focus and love it
hi mate,we just done a silmular swap,im just wondering wat u transfered off the old engine besides the ecu.
we swapped the ecu but its not starting, sayin there is a problem wit a control module
DID YOU GET ANY SOLUTION
Did you solve this?
Did you manage to sort out the problem?
Nice to see you James keep up the good work
how many days did she drive with low oil?
Hi ,where i can find you to help me changing an engine to my corsa?
Nice job 💪💪💪💪
DOES IT NEEDS CODING OR NOT
would you be able to post a link to the aftermarket foot pedals you have installed? Cheers
Cool video, dont know much about cars myself, got the same corsa but engine light comes in, i have a electronic tool to turn it off but comes back on after 2 or 3 days, might have to finally have a look under the hood.
Can you do a how to do on Vauxhall meriva? Need my head gasket taking off and putting back on
Do you have to keep the same ecu as the one that was with the car originally or keep the one on with the new engine?
Use the original ecu otherwise you'll have idling issue and might not even turn over
Sometimes you can be lucky and interchange the ecu's but best to keep the cars original one
When are you coming back we miss your videos
Phil in stoke
Whats that convertible doing up in the air?
Hi James, great vid. How many miles did the donor engine have on it and if you don’t mind me asking, how much did it cost? Curious because I think I’m in the same situation with my 04 Corsa C. 😭
Neil Wilson funny you should mention that, when I heard the before clip I thought sounded like my 54 plate haha
Ash Bryant I think all the Corsa C’s end up like that. Mines only got a genuine 69,000 miles on the clock. 😱💵💵💵💵💵
69 000 miles is nothing if you take care of your car, because mine (Corsa C 1.2 Gas, from 2002, motor Z12XE ) has 302 000 km genuine (188 054 miles )
nice video, would be interested to see the bottom end on the old one!
This is a Diesel version rigth, not a petrol(gasoline) version rigth ?
Luís Fernandes petrol (gasoline) no diesel!
Yoo engine 1,2 twinport?
Was that 1.2 or 1.4?
Should have put the 1.4 Turbo engine in, man! 🚗
What year is the car James ?
John OCallaghan its a 2002 car
John OCallaghan 2002
James enjoys doing this kind of work I think.
Hi how many Km/Miles did that engine have on? more than 250k km?? just curious as I have the same car
Hello I have a question where is the starter motor on corsa sxi1.2? thanks a lot
I love corsa. Good work james
I find with doing them exhaust studs on the cat the trick is to heat them up but it's weather you have the equipment also there called drive shafts dude nice job good to watch
what was wrong with that old engine
Hi James I don't suppose you still work on cars do you, I have some work for you if interested 👍
Nice job, I have a corsa c myself and your videos have help a lot. you still have the other corsa and you moved house agin?
TwoWheel Kicks still got the other corsa, maybe a change of plan with it though in terms of engines
Hi i have Corsa c 2002 3 cylinder 1.0 58 HP ( engine is broken) , is it possible to change to 4 cylinder 1.2 75/ 80 HP and how ?
good work there, only thing stopping me is insurance not covering it, or i would have dropped a bigger engine in my corsa
How long did it take? 🙄
Kim Nielsen mmm, we made a day of it with filming and tea breaks lol :) could be done in 4-5 hours if you were quick
Would it cost much
That’s amazing
Good job...thinking of taking the engine out of my wifes mk 4 astra 1.6 petrol.
Any advantage dropping it from below with its sub frame.
Youll knock the tracking out if you do that
Hi please I just change engine of my car how do I know the correct mileage of the engine thanks
You do not
You need air tools and a air compressor. You made short work of it for hand wrenching it all. FYI - I think you put the steering wheel back on the wrong side and you are driving on the wrong side of the road!
FrugalPrepper I was thinking the same thing lol
I’m going engine change on my 1 litre corsa c and putting a 1.2 in it and having it on carbs will be some job but worth it :) ps why don’t you guys use impact guns and battery wrachets be saving a hell of a lot of time
How much will it be for u to do that for me
Well done spot on mate
The action you would do was to change the propellant and the oil pump.
Not sure about buying those 2nd engines from Wreckers they asking btw $1200 and $1650 in Aus for a Holden Barina/Opel Corsa C (Rebadged) engine as is and their is a waiting list for these Steel Chain engines.
I think only a chain change was needed in the old motor could have saved all this work!!!!!!
Higher octane fuel may have prevented the knocking
Finally lol iv been waiting since September foe these videos lol
Great video bro
Corsa tensioner make why? Video
Wicked vlog mate :-)
Billy RS cheers man!
Vauxhall petrol engine is the most easy engine to change
Classic Corsa noise
Timing chain noise
Hello how are? Im from argentina, and i've an answer... is....
Can i put engine Honda Vetec in the Chevrolet Corsa?
Nice job!
Obviously engine was running with out oil , God knows how much time otherwise this is not normal
In this video when engine is on idle rpm (on neutral, I can hear it in old and new engine after replace) I can hear some clicking noise. Project Sxi didn't go so well, you just had to put another engine in the same car you fixed 2 years ago, ..what went wrong mate?
GREYHOUND1874 completely unrelated to the work I did (head gasket and timing kit) whilst in her possession the oil leaked out and it was driven with 1 litre of oil in it for weeks killing the engine.
Nightmare mate, i wasn't having a go, appreciate your videos..typical cosra, u put loads of work into it then it asks for more..well done on the new engine video..best wishes from paul
Old engine only needed a set of hydrolic lifters bud
sean B unfortunately not, it's been having low oil pressure issues for a while before the noises started.. on further inspection since recording the main bearings are f*cked
The Savage Garage nasty man haha cant here mains knocking in video but hard to here these thing unless your there i suppose
Nice job, only criticism is you left the calliper hanging by the brake line, you should always support it in some way
Great job 👍
really nice job👏🏾👍🏾
I personally would have bought a new Corsa, loads of good ones around
Pritesh Champaneri that's fine if you've got £500+ to spare, I like to fix things instead of throwing them out but I'm old fashioned :D
The Savage Garage How much was the engine if you don't mind me asking?
Do a live vid
Is this worth it on such a old car
It's not that old
2002, loads of spares and cheap! Worth it
Cheap to fix, labour is free.. had a fun day with my dad and got some content out of it :)
Thats like saying is a classic muscle car worth restoring
Rob White your obviously not smart enough to understand what i mean so ill explain it in pesant terms just for you .... If someone ( human ) likes a car ( those have engines that have many moving parts ) then the age of the car is irrelevant( this big word means ... It doesnt matter) ok soft lad now you go play with the lego in the corner like a good boy 👍😂👍😂👍😂
OK
I was gunna do this for a friend but nah looks like too much work not worth it
Well done good.
Nice one☺
Good videos
If its a petrol car it is pretty noisy for an petrol 🤷
Great
İs he your dad? you're very lucky bro
Parli italiano per caso volevo farti una domanda
Finally
