    I noticed on my sons corsa that it would take a little longer to start engine & when it was started i let it idle for about 5mins then turned car off then started the car , it started instantly so i got the thought that maybe something was starving the system somehow .
    It seems that when the car was warmer & the oil was hotter that it would start on point.
    Im in the middle of putting new parts on his car so ill be having a look at that valve while im at it, im doing an oil service on it anyway so makes sense to check it . 😂
    Good vid though 👍🏼 but kept having to pause every 5secs to see the typo’s .
    Tbh i do prefer to hear the a spoken tutorial as its quicker to take the info in 😊
    But good job tho 🤘🏼

      The harder start has nothing to do with that valve, leave it alone. It is possible that the EGR does not close perfectly every time. If the engine has some miles, it is possible that the timing chain is stretched, and the camshafts are no longer perfectly synchronized. A small difference in synchronization can sometimes cause longer starts.

    I had a really bad sound coming from my corsa starting up, it sounded like an oil starvation for .7 seconds on a cold start. It was coming up to 100k miles, so i changed the timing and gave it a service with new oil and filter and the sound went away on start up. I do recommend changing your oil more regularly, especially with the A12xer.

    This is a normal sound in all these engines, it is because of no oil pressure on startup, the issue is more noticeable when the chain is worn, not so much when everything is new and tight, that valve isn't the problem, there is always going to be no oil pressure on startup for 1-3sec, the actual problem with these engines is that the timing chain tensioner is a very bad design, it has no ratchet mechanism in them so that on every startup the chain is loose and rattles it also causes the chain to flutter while running causing the chain to prematurely wear out, if there was a ratchet in them it would keep the chain tight until oil pressure builds up.
    The only proper fix for these engines would be a redesigned tensioner with ratchet and maybe a wider thicker chain and guides, it is a shame no one has come up with any mod kits yet.
    Best thing for these engines is to change the timing chain ,guides and sprockets every 30-40k miles, unfortunately it's the only thing that actually works.

      @CorsaDForever  2 роки тому +1

      It make sense what you are saying. The weird thing in my case is that the chain it is in a very good shape, I opened the cover and it is rock solid, can't move it even if I pull harder.

    • @MrPlytiger
      @MrPlytiger 2 роки тому +1

      @@CorsaDForever thats the spring tension of the valve springs and tensioner sping combined, there is no one way check valve in the tensioner so when the engine is off the tension goes straight away.
      If you turn the engine at the crankshaft you will notice the chain loosens and tightens at certain points, if there was a rachet in the tensioner it would stay tight all the time.

      To remove the oil filter housing for Corsa D you have to remove first the exhaust/catalytic converter (there are 2 unreachable hidden nuts behind the edge of exhaust manifold). My original plan was to replace the entire filter housing, but I tried to avoid this, as the exhaust nuts are often difficult to remove. If you have a new filter housing, I recommend that you replace it completely. Sometimes when you try to remove only the valve, it may break.

      Most likely worn hydraulic lifters make that sound. When the engine is hot, the oil is thinner and not held by the lifters. There may also be low oil pressure, better check this first.

      It depends, that kind of noise may appear from a worn chain tensioner or worn hydraulic lifters. If those are in a good shape then the noise may go away if you replace the valve.

    Very rarely is it this problem, its 99% the timing chain. There's no harm in checking the housing and cleaning it but it won't cure the start up rattle. This is due to the chain being worn combined with a weak tensioner. The only real cure for these engines both the 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 is a new chain kit. They're not expensive and very easy to fit..

    • @friarbishme

      If its the timing chain you get the rattle most of the time and not just on start up. Id done my timing chain and tensioner and still had the noise on startup for 1-2 seconds, until replaced this valve.

    These are very problematic cars that are best avoided. On my Astra, the sound of the chain is heard, often at low revs, when starting and while driving. Opel/GM invented a gasket under the chain tensioner, but I find information that even after installing that gasket, the problem with the chain can often return. My question is, maybe the main problem is not in the gasket and chain tensioner, but in the oil pump that does not create strong enough pressure at low rpms. And can the pump be set to give higher pressure, since it is variable and dependent on rpm?

    • @CorsaDForever
      @CorsaDForever  2 місяці тому

      If you start to hear the chain, it means that it has started to stretch. In the meantime, I changed the timin chain and now there is total silence. It is true that the lubrication system is not the strong point of these engines. I heard that some would do some tricks and increase the pressure, but it didn't tempt me to try.
