Hi Matt & Pacific BMW, I just wanted to say this video helped me by the right M4 for me over here in the UK. Our British dealers have no idea that this sort of video content is super useful and they don’t do it. It helps people buy cars! Heck, BMW corporate don’t do useful “shopper marketing’ video content like this. This particular video answered everything I needed to know about M4 exhausts from a trusted source. Needless to say I spent the extra money on an M Performance Exhaust (see, your video worked). Great presenting from Matt and brilliant content. Keep up the good work. BMW USA - Commend and encourage the work of Pacific BMW please.
Performance exhaust in sport mode sounds like an absolute animal but the fact that you have to pay an extra 8 thousand to get something that Is expected from a standard m car is a little sad.
That's the whole package, including the carbon goodies I believe. You can buy the MPE for around 5700, while still expensive, is a lot better than 8 grand
AVALS0112 Matt Ignacek $4400+$1385 I remembered. Hope they can offer those blue tips inside the carbon fiber wrap, like those aftermarket exhaust on the GTR
Thanks for doing this comparison video. This was better than going to the dealer. The differences in pitch is definitely distinct. I'm currently shopping for a newer M and this is exactly what I needed to hear. Although it's sad that BMW makes us pay more for something that should basically be standard on an M car. If anything there should only be two options, Competition and Performance.
Thank you for posting this. Good to hear all 3 side-by-side. I have a remote-operated valve controller on my '18 M4 and keep the valves always open (can be returned to stock setting via remote). Love it! Wanted to upgrade to MP Exhaust, but with its titanium construction being as crack-prone as it is, I am thinking of going with a different axle-back instead (still deciding). On a side note, it is remarkable how different the MP rear spoiler makes the M4 look! I installed mine the morning after bringing the car home.
This video is just what i've been looking for, standard M4 coming in 4 weeks & i have been looking to upgrade the exhaust & I don't want to go aftermarket, excellent review, thanks from Scotland :)
I purchased my M3 in 2014 and changed the standard exhaust to MPE straight away. The difference was significant and in my opinion the MPE really suits F80 M3 personality. In eco mode the exhaust is quiet and only gets louder in high rpms. Cold starts are really loud and the exhaust becomes louder overall with time. F80 as a package does not need anything apart from the exhaust.
Very informative Video. I have an M4 Competition and I was thinking to change the standard exhaust for the MPE now I can hear the difference. even though the sound is not exactly the same. but I can get a better idea of what I want.
Thank you for this comparison. You helped me a lot to decide to get the MPE directly with the Competition M3. If possible, can you do it with warm engines and after the cold start has been completed?! Please continue the good work.
Joe Gun Did you end up getting the MPE for your M3? If so how does it compare to Comp Pack exhaust. Looking to get it for my Comp M3 not sure if it’s worth it
One thing to add if you seriously want to nerd out (which you will, if you’re dropping $3.5k on this) is the m performance exhaust shaves 17 lbs off the oringinal standard or sport exhausts. It’s titanium from the secondary cats to the tips. Also, as far as tips go, don’t get CF shrouded ones. CF looks completely stupid as any component of the exhaust system.
@@3rayallen only ignorant people think it’s awesome. Anyone who has a clue about materials knows that carbon fiber is not meant for high-heat applications. They will also know that it’s used purely for cosmetics in this application. So if you want to impress ignorant people, go for it.
There are a few things that aren't mentioned in this video about all of these exhausts. First, even in eco mode, all 3 of these exhausts open up completely when you get higher up in the rpm's. Not exactly sure why this is, but if I had to guess, it probably has something to do with saving wear and tear on the valves trying to hold back all of that pressure. All of that said, I was a bit disappointed to find out that the competition and m performance exhausts are basically identical with a bit less packing material in the muffler. But hey, marketing, am I right 😂.
I know it’s an old comment, not true at all though. MPE is made of Titanium while comp and base exhaust is just stainless steel. Your comment would be correct if it were base to comp, the comp has less material and also has factory burbles which the base doesn’t.
I love it. Thank you very much. I’m going to get the M performance exhaust. I wanted to go for the akrapovic exhaust, but the money you meet to spend on it is double the price and I don’t know if it’s worth it.
I can’t believe this kid didn’t warm up the car for at least 10 minutes before doing this test. 1) you’re harming the engine by revving the cold motor 2) you’re not getting a realistic sound because the pipes haven’t been warmed up and the oil is still in the bottom of the sump. You are essentially revving metal.
Dont buy the MPerformance exhaust. The main reason why its so loud is that it dont have a mid silencer just delete it from your standard exhaust and its fucking loud. save 8k dollars...
I can’t wait to get an M4! Gonna wait a year or two and buy used of course.... any tips on buying a used M4 on what I should look out for would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I would suggest nothing older than a ‘17 due to the idrive system and the electronics of the car being substantially better than years before, and if you can get an ‘18 that would be even better because the LCI gives the car a DRASTICALLY more refined feel in every aspect from steering to suspension. Executive package is critical, and I would look for merino leather over Sonoma 👍🏼
I just got my m4 competition pack. But my tips look like the last one with carbon fiber tips. Does mine have the performance exhaust or the comp exhaust? My exhaust pops and crackles
So can you get in trouble with the new exhaust laws in California if the exhaust came with the car from factory because it is really loud and cops are gonna think it's aftermarket
Can someone please explain to me what this means. So there’s a stock bmw m4 normal exhaust. A bmw m4 competition with a competition exhaust and a bmw m4 competition with an m performance exhaust which costs a bit more? Is that correct?
The only thing stopping me buying an M3 or M4 comp is the exhaust note. I'm sorry but if you live in a quiet area and you sometimes set off for work at 5am then it just isn't an acceptable car.
When you drive the car in efficient mode, there is almost no outside exhaust note. I daily drive this car and it’s acceptable for corporate environment provided you’re not activating M1 or M2 mode, which opens the valve.
No offense, i have a 2019 M4 CS and it sounds very different. I’m pretty sure you don’t know how to rev the car to right RPM’S. these cars pop on the revs, you aren’t doing it correctly
They pop after the cars has been warmed up (2-3 min after start up). They wont give the pop and bangs right after the start up. You should know this if you own the car :)
M4 Standard 1:19 - CS exhaust 2:56 - PE 5:04
Second is Competition, CS is a bit different.
its not cs
My hero
Elia Competition Sport exhaust.

oh, just to own a stock m4 is a dream

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the feedback!
to me the best souning is the comp sport exhaust. The m sport is def the loudest but the comp had the deepest sound.

Better exhaust, +20hp, revised lsd, forged wheels, black accents, new springs, revised dampers. I think its a great deal.
I drove the M4 with Performance ESD and it sounds really great! Much louder than the competition. Great Video! 👍
how much does that cost?
Den ESD gibt es doch aber beim M4 gar nicht einzeln oder täusche ich mich? 🤔

Marcel K Ist Remus BMW? Nein.

MPerformance all life!! Great video, my compliments. M4 wonderful!
Performance Exhaust all the way I will never look back! M4 goes to from lawn mower noises to a crazy exhaust note which is perfect.
Does the performance exhaust also add louder burbles or pops ?

This luxury of being able to try out different exhaust systems on an M4
Dude that was a great Video , ive subscribed and will definetly push that further...even to local BMW Dealerships here in Austria and Germany
Thank you so much! Let us know if there is anything that you would like to see!
Nice presentation of different music notes with all the M4

Beautiful vid Matt spot on brotha keep it up
Subscribed and appreciate your upload. Well done Matt.
What a fucking beast the M4 is
Matt appreciate the video! Just picked my ZCP F82 about to get that MPE doe, and this video was very helpful
Matt thank you with your video, now I know that the only right exhaust for my M3 is Performance, a very nice presentation and comparison....
Really Nice Video! Greetings from the hometown of BMW - Munich ✌️
Great comparison and info
This was perfect. Thank you.
Sick cars, and great review. R.I.P Chester

Really good exhaust comparison. So there performance in the “M Performance” exhaust is just more noise? Is that really true? I like it regardless.

Im asking myself the same question lol. Mpe is just fine for me
They’re not really different, MPE and Akra sound almost exactly the same

Thank you matt really usefull video bro 🙏

They all need to be warmed up for like 15 minutes first before doing the tests, especially with the MPE.
I've heard an m4 with PE and was extremely loud outperformed a ferrari 488 . tbh
Great vid.
hey buddy, i have the m performance exhaust and you should've waited a bit longer . It takes about a minute of 2 to hear the burbles and cracks.
Makes no sense with cold start because cold sound is really different (but short...). plz make a video with warm engine.
Good video bro thanks
Can you please (!) do that comparison also for the BMW M2 Stock and Perfromance Exhaust?

I just got my m4 competition pack. But my tips look like the last one with carbon fiber tips. Does mine have the performance exhaust or the comp exhaust?
My exhaust pops and crackles
They are all sounded like no back fires? Just a little bit back fires, so small the sound
Can you explain what exact includes at $7000 performance package? What options?
The m2 Performance exhaust sounds much better in my opinion

They all have burbles

So weird is that the m3 regular has competition exhaust and the actual m3 competition has performance exhaust instead of competition.
How come at the higher rpms it sounds like a tin can? Down low sounds friggn amazing 😁😁
I would just rather get an Akrapovic aftermarket exhaust on a regular M4.
CyberEntertainment but then you have to use a separate remote to control the valves.
Can someone please explain to me what this means. So there’s a stock bmw m4 normal exhaust. A bmw m4 competition with a competition exhaust and a bmw m4 competition with an m performance exhaust which costs a bit more? Is that correct?

what camera are you using?
High Matt as you work in Bmw ... just trying to make up my mind buying M4 stock or M4 Competition Pack BMW .. your thoughts appreciated 👍
The M4 CP would be a no brainer in my honest opinion. Why do you feel you need advice on that one?
Can you duplicate the performance exhaust with a aftermarket exhaust
Does M performance exhaust require tuning after replacing stock exhaust on M4?
Nah , you can go to you local bmw dealer and get them to source it and fit it
El standar esta con stage 1 y en cold star 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
M Performance. Definitely
Can I get the performance exhaust in the competition package car?
Yes at an extra cost, it's not standard as most people may think.
nice

Probably the majority opinion. We love this petty wide based little monster but for 8K it better sound like a Range ROver SVR lol... That is a purr.
why isn't that option on there website??the Performance Exhaust
The performance options can only be added through a dealership order
it is not an option. You have to buy it in addition of the regular erxhaust which come with the car. You find it in the M Performance store
