Those pins will brake. That's the reason BMW had the friction plates, if major unbalance happens, it increases the chance of a less costly repair. With those weak pins 100% when they fail motor will just wrap up and be scrap.

Just purchased a F80 a few months ago, and I'm getting great insight from your content on what upgrades you have done to your car, hopefully I can get the crank hub changed out in the future! Thank you!
Oh wow. This is such a technical and labour intensive job. Never seen such an in depth crank hub upgrade vid. Well done, amazing to see. Why would people dislike this vid? Must be Merc and Audi fan boys lol. No wonder it costs so much to do the upgrade.
Omar, Great Job... your skills have greatly improved on the video side... thanks for sticking with it. I noticed... Now for the crank hub replacement the instructions and brief overview are spot on... this is not a DIY project at all based on the specialized tools involved. BIG shout out to SSR for allowing you to film this. This shows the true value of shops with highly skilled professionals. I’m planning on tuning my 2020 M2C after my 1200 mile break in.. Omar, as you do more on your S55 engine, use this same approach, your content will be well received just like the E-46 content I’ve grown too enjoy for so many years. Thank you for the video, great to watch a professional at work ... presumably there's a BMW engine design team somewhere in Germany lying low - call me old fashioned but why didn't they key the sprockets to the shaft... other than penny pinching
Great preventative maintenance.!! BMW really did screw all the F8X M owners with Crank hub issue, where they installed one piece design for M5 and 6. How much did the labor cost?
Can’t imagine how long it took you to put this whole video together. Well done! As a guy that’s rebuilt many an s14 and other e30/e36/e46 gen engines this video made it clear I’d rather not tackle the job myself. Specialized tools alone likely run over $1000.
