Vocal ANALYSIS of Elden Ring Boss Monster Lauren Hart!

  • How does this tiny lady sound like a boss monster from Elden Ring? I decided to take a listen to Lauren Hart's deep gutteral vocals at what's been described as "a throat-scarring level of vocal brutality that completely contradicts Lauren's soft appearance." This sounds like something I am all in for!

If she can sing like that live, then she should be the real successor to Angela Gossow. If she can hit those three Deathmetal / Blackmetal vocal ranges that Angela Gossow was famous for than I'd say #1 Contender status right there.

It’s weird to me that I’m not reading more comments about Angela Gossow (ex-Arch Enemy). She was doing this vocal style back at the turn of the century and I believe more or less solidified that low guttural style that a lot of other front women are using today. If you check out older Arch Enemy, ‘Burning Angel’ is always a good choice (for guitar too) and ‘My Apocalypse’ or ‘Nemesis’ would give a brutal or faceted idea too

The very same show Charlotte Wessels performed "Under Grey Skies, and Alissa White-Gluz and Elize Ryd performed "Sacrimony". And there's also "March of Mephisto" with Alissa. He is the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, and he also produced and engineered (I think) the Opeth albums that made them big (Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Damnation). Porcupine Tree is one of those bands that have a totally unique sound, and Wilson is a master of vocal arrangements. "Trains" is a good example, but "Anesthetize" is a masterpiece. "Luminol" from his solo album "Raven that refused to sing" is also great. He even got a collaboration album with Åkerfeldt from Opeth called Storm Corrosion ("Drag Ropes" got some haunted arrangements, and in "Ljudet Innan" (the sound within in swedish) have a beautiful falsetto from Åkerfeldt).

Aside from main vocalist Kobi Farhi's clean and growled vocals, they have also frequently collaborated with female vocalist Shlomit Levi, whose Yemeni vocals also deserve a deep dive.
There's footage on YT from a professionally filmed show in Jerusalem, called The Road To Or-Shalem. It doesn't feature Kobi's Growls, but I suggest starting with the song New Jerusalem, as its message of peace between Arabs and Israelis through a shared love of music deserves to be heard.

You talked about the singer's spine movement. It's important to note that you were watching a music video, not a live performance.
She might indeed move like that in live shows. Less likely in the studio. But music videos are typically made by acting out a performance and then dubbing the studio recording over the video. What you're hearing is not the sound she's putting out when the visuals were recorded. As such, she, and the other band members, are able to move freely without compromising their sound.

    Looking forward to this one!
For another boss-monster, you might want to give Vicky Psarakis a try (The Agonist - melodic death metal / Sicksense - nu-metal, plus solo covers, many guest appearances and most Fridays performs song requests live on Twitch).
Vicky likes having a "toolbox" of sounds to pick from, with a wide range of clean singing, distortion, growls and rap, she loves making choir effects, and focuses massively on her enunciation when growling.
Vicky has also done some voiceover work, notably in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and is a member of the Monster Factory - a global network of metal vocalists who have featured on various video games, films and TV series.
Official video: The Agonist - Remnants in Time (Napalm Records)
Live: THE AGONIST "Blood as My Guide" live @ Theatre Corona, Montreal - 17/12/2021 (Teammontrealmetal) - vocals are great quality, unfortunately a bit less quality for the guitars

Thanks for featuring Lauren Hart! I have been a fan of Once Human and her vocals for quite a while. It has been really interesting to see her progression as a vocalist from their first album "The Life I Remember" to their third and most recent album "Scar Weaver" (I couldn't think of a more appropriate album title featuring her vocals :) ). Obviously you can't feature all of their work with so much great content to produce, but I would say to give more of their catalog a listen to be further impressed.

Hey, I'm watching a lot of your videos and you keep saying to leave recommendations in the comments. I think you should really check out Anthony Vincent, he does covers of songs in 20 different styles (or sometimes more) of several bands/singers, very different from one another. His vocal ranger is: YES. Literally, he can hit every note, he's like a human jukebox. Aside from that, since you like S.O.A.D. I'd recommend Chop Suey, and since I love Evanescence, I'd love to see you listen to more of their songs, Lithium, Lost in Paradise, Never Go Back, Far From Heaven are some of my favorite and songs in which Amy really gives full potential to her voice. If you want more Within Temptation, give a listen to "The truth beneath the rose", it's so epic and beautiful it gives me goosebumps every time.

@@TheCharismaticVoice Aww that is awesome to hear! Looking forward to it! Literally the past 24 hours, aside from sleeping, I've just been watching your videos, I've learned things I never noticed in songs I've heard a million times, and it's always so much fun to see someone react to a song for the first time when I know how it's gonna go :) The highlight was how you were able to immediately tell just how much pain was in Kurt's performance of "Where did you sleep last night", knowing only a bit about him. Oh, I'd also like to recommend more Tarja, from her solo career after her departure from Nightwish. I especially like "Sing for me", but "I feel immortal" is also very "wow". You're awesome :)

I have loved watching your reacts and insights on different artists and I've got 2 really good suggestions that I think you would have a great time reacting to:
    The first one is Weird Fishes by Radiohead (Live From the Basement), Thom Yorke is the singer and he is a really talented creator and vocalist. This song is, for me (a huge Radiohead fan) one of the best they have created. Also, the recording has really good sound and video quality, in asemblance to the MTV Unplugged which you have complimented a lot, and you can really dig in to what he does with his voice;
The second one is Shine a Light by The Rolling Stones, a really emotional song with a powerful story behind it. I'd love to watch your reactions. After you get to know the story of the song, and you listen to the lyrics, there is no way to feel indiferent to this absolutely phenomenal masterpiece. In this song, I have heard probably one of the best things one can wish for a loved one:
"May the good Lord shine a light on you
Make every song your favorite tune
May the good Lord shine a light on you
    Warm like the evening sun".
Thanks and have a great day.

This was really impressive, and it’s still great to see your genuine shock to the harsh vocals Elizabeth. If you’re interested in hearing more ladies who use harsh vocals, and some cleans too, Crypta, Sylvaine, and Myrkur are all great. Ranging from death metal, to post black metal, to folk/black metal.

Hey Elizabeth, if you're interested in some of the most important female vocalists in metal, you should consider reacting to these:
    · Wendy O William's (punk/heavy metal)
    · Doro Pesch (heavy metal)
    · Anneke Van Giersbergen (goth/doom metal/prog rock)
    · Angela Gossow (melodic death metal)
    · Oneilar (black metal)
(This vocalist for once human is heavily influenced by Angela Gossow. Also Floor Jansen was influenced by Anneke Van Giersbergen)
