I did this on a par 5 with friends. The carry distance was off about 5 yards for us but the roll out was incredible. Even the big slicer in group hit the fairway 5 out 5. We used chapstick though
I’m a high handicap golfer and can definitely vouch for the effectiveness of using chapstick. I’ve been practicing 5 days a week in a hitting bay at a local golf store. Using chapstick on the driver’s face reduces the spin rate approximately 25-30% for me, which translates into 10-15 more yards.
Bought the slic stick with the Polara ultimate straight ball sleeve package. Safe to say I would have to aim the opposite direction in order to miss the fairway
Been using it for a couple of years now. EVERY driver shot goes straight down the middle. Since I never play for money, or in any tourneys, I could give a crap it's illegal. I was skeptical after watching this last night 12/14/21. I was to play a round of golf with my dad today whose 84 years young and friend of his. Hole 3 is a par 3. Hole 4 I add a little more balm and again straight down the fairway. Dad was slicing a bit. So I told them both what I had been doing. So hole 5 we all have this lip balm on our drivers. All hit straight…. I’m not joking. We kept using it all day and I used it on my 3 wood with excellent results. After 18 holes I sliced 0 drives..😳 only our friend hit 2 slices but he said when he would normally swing like he did the slice would be ridiculous. These were not terrible slices he hit. My best round ever today 84. I took a stupid 8 on hole 18 par 5 488 yards. Beautiful drive and excellent 3 wood to be 90 yards from the green and then totally fall apart. I’ve never ever hit 18 holes without my normal 6-7 slices. Not sure I will buy the stuff you’re reviewing because this lip balm I think worked amazing..

I remember reading in a book when I was a kid, golf hustlers (at least in the US) used to coat their drivers with a thin layer of petroleum jelly (Vaseline), under the logic that it kept the ball in contact with the clubface for a slightly longer time and would slow down spin as the ball would be held in place relative to the clubface longer, resulting in longer, straighter drives. This seems like a modernization of that hustle.
Yes, Titanic Thompson and Ray Floyd have talked about this. I have an idea the Vaseline thing has been tested and failed, there might be a YT clip about it. Maybe this stuff is more than just faux petroleum jelly. Add a Polara ball and you're straight all day.
As a caddie at Oak Hill, when carrying a single, I always carried bubblegum so that the unfortunate getting hustled could press the match when I hit the driver with b-gum stickum on dogleg left and sweat from my forehead for dogleg right. Reminded my player that if he chose me to caddie he'd have a memorable round. Only way I got to caddie.
Vaseline works just as good. And a very thin layer too. Stick some under the cart roof and sneak it on your finger before you go to the tee... wipe on...hit bombs...wipe off...win skins.
A quick spray of silicon lubricant will do the same thing. With lower backspin you'll need to hit the ball at a higher trajectory via swing or club adjustments. Should net a good gain in distance in both carry and roll out.

@@Mattfryergolf 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 prob not. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Considering that Matt Fryer is more likely to hit a fairway (let alone shoot lower scores consistently), than both Shiels and Finch combined lol
Doesn't a non doppler radar launch monitor calculate spin based on club head angle and speed? It's making calculations based on average club head to ball friction, it doesn't observe the ball to get spin rate.
No kidding, a guy I play with uses Vaseline on his driver every time. Hits it straight and long.
Would you do it?
@@Mattfryergolf No. I’ll live with my 20 yard baby fade!!!
I don’t know your game , but I don’t know if this would work for my 50 yrd slice thatll pop up out of the blue now and then
What’s the difference between that and foot spray
Foot spray is to see strike and won't have an effect on spin like this
Interesting you only tried hitting straight drives. Maybe playing for a cut/fade or draw/hook would have made for a better experiment?
Chap stick works just as good. Heck I’ve used suntan lotion once or twice. LOL!
Chap Stick is the same thing. Old trick. I inherited a lawyers golf bag. He had some. :D
Back in the late 60s and 70s (my HS and College Days) Some people use to put Vaseline on club faces ...
I definitely need this. I have a horrible fade or slice. Shoulder injury prevents me from swinging correctly.
Might give my lip balm a try 😂😂😂
All I can hear is, "Apply directly to your forehead." "Apply directly to your forehead." "Apply directly to your forehead." "Apply directly to your forehead." "Apply directly to your forehead."
Don't like gimmicks. Thanks Matt
The secret is to put weights in your right hand pocket to change your balance through the swing
And what will that do ?
My dad thinks he's a slicer. When in reality he hits straight, or pushes it a mile. He carries chapstick in his bag and thinks it's helping him lol. No amount of Vaseline can fix an open club face hahaha.
So you're saying it doesn't work
Regular old Chapstick works very nicely
Im watching on my TV, while also watching it on my laptop so I can add a comment. Golf Eh? Bloody Hell. (pinched a quote from Sir Alex)
Love the commitment
Vacaline ya driver up ha ha 😂 🤣 they will sell anything 🤣 well done matt 👏 👍
I just bought one
Slick
Stick 😉
@@Mattfryergolf exactly
I have one of these slic stics and I read the directions. You're supposed to put a thin layer of it on your club. Not glob it on like you did
Matt do this video again in summer to see the distance with roll out on dry fairways
probably work great on cross counrty skis
Couple of other "tricks" to try; wax the driver face the night before, spray sunblock on driver, saliva from your mouth, chap stick, spray wax on golf balls then switch ball in fairway. Heard about things like this being done at company golf outings, so guys can win longest drive. :) hahaha :)
Wait! Not one comment as to how the ball is glazed with the substance after you reach the greens? So do you wipe it off with your towel?
replace the ball...
Try Rain-X.
