I used to run a club in the 80s. It had a great sound system. It was a detached building so any noise didn’t disturb anyone around. Often, when I opened up, the place was completely empty. I had a tape recording of this song and I would play it on volume 10 on the system. It was mind blowing.
Also, their voices sound so beautiful together. That desonance might be present in the studio recording but that quality is lost behind all the processing.
That ending, I just paused the video and stared across my room in total disbelief. Like wtf did I just hear? and then the vocals jump in again... Fuck man, we have to prize ourselves so fortunate to be living in a time where there's so much creativity and beauty on display. I'm not joking, this is humanity in its peak form . And look what it can produce.. I'm just speechless
As time goes on and bands "mess" with their songs when live, they rarely sound better than the original. Not this time. 😅I’ve heard several versions of this song over the years, but this is probably the best. Brilliant.
Despite not being their biggest hit, to me this is hands down the greatest A-ha track...and the one I can't resist belting out in traffic when it shows up on shuffle.
@John Doyle Agreed. Pål Waaktaar has always been a significant song writer. One of the best. Surely he's influenced plenty of newly emerged writers too.
Hey Morten If you are watching. Yourself and the band Magne and Paul stayed at our hotel back in 1984 while you were in to UK. We sat together watching the Gremlins movie .. Never forgotten.. I have our Guests book with your signature and remarks on our hotel.... At the time i didn't realise who you guy were... until i Listened to Take On Me. Been a Fan ever since
I'm from Switzerland and I still remember when you sang this piece for the first time. This piece together with this charming singer is a masterpiece. I would like to thank you both and all the musicians who brought an outstanding performance of skills. Please do a piece with this singer again. I would be very happy in this dreary, cold and loveless time to hear music that can make my and other beaten hearts beat again. Many thanks again from Switzerland.♥♥♥
I remember when this song first came out and it blew everyone's minds. It's amazing to see how it's still just as beloved today. Thank you, A-ha, for creating such a memorable hit.🙏
What's so heartbreaking about this is the contrast of the lyric - "touch me...hold me" - with the physical distance between Ingrid and Morten. They never look at each other. There are no cheesy, amateur histrionics, two bad actors mooning over one another with false adoration, and the effect is stunning. The presentation of two lonely people issuing a plea into the night: their need real, their ache without relief. Indeed, life is not like they show it on TV. I, like a lot of people, enjoyed/danced to A-ha back in the day, but these recent recastings of their songs are superior to the 80's stuff. The music and the men who make it have matured to the benefit of all of us. Well done.
I just stumbled upon this performance and omg this is amazing! I love how it’s slowed down with the tempo, I have a really close bond with A-ha for a reason, my dad absolutely LOVED this band so so much, he had a cassette tape of Hunting High and Low for his old station wagon car he named “Ron burgundy” because it was a burgundy color and he used to play this album ALL the time, it was his favorite a-ha album, and now it’s mine, I’ve listened to it from top to bottom and I love all the songs on it, thanks to my dad I love a-ha and I’m so glad to have been raised on them from my dad, this band will always have a special place in my heart, whenever I listen to a-ha I think of my dad🥹🥹❤️❤️ RIP dad, I miss you terribly and I love you so much💔 and to A-Ha, thank you for your amazing music that helped me connect with my dad more❤️
Lol! I was SO into Metallica, Anthrax, etc in the 80’s but also loved aha! This is much more my speed now, the old neck can’t bang my head like it used too;)
A-HA have always been Underated musicians and underated songwriters but there lyrics and songs have stood the test of time better than almost all of the 80's songs . Top band and always will be.
OMG, for the first time ever I get to understand what he means by the Sun Always Shines on TV. I grew up speaking Spanish and Crucian (St. Croix - West Indian Creole) and learned English along the way. Always wondered what the heck he meant by the sun shinning on the television. Was he getting sun rays coming through his apartment window and could not see his television. LOL. Now I get it though, things are not always as happy as they appear on television, life can suck and be miserable and lonely. This makes the song even more beautiful now.
When i researched the song, i found this on wikipedia (translated from german) Pål Waaktaar, guitarist for the band, said "‘ The Sun Always Shines On TV ’was written on one of those dreary days. Me and Mags [Magne Furuholmen] were watching English TV at a hotel on a rainy day and the guy who announced the program said, “It's a rainy day but, as always, the sun always shines on TV.” The title says it all about the power of television and the way television represents life. "
And now go listen to the unplugged version of Take on me.... The lyrics are not as upbeat as the music once indicated , but they are sore and raw. It's a bit like the difference in "Sound of Silence" when sung by Simon and Garfunkel vs Disturbed, only here it is the same artist ;-)
I love this version of the song. I must have listened to it a hundred times at least. Ingrid Helene Havik has a gorgeous voice and it fits the song so well.
I came for the a-ha, I stayed for the Ingrid Helene Havik (and the orchestration). so beautiful .. also, the violinist looks so like a proud mama for the whole ensemble
I love the way they re-invented this wonderful song. The string arrangement and Helene's intervention, with those splendid lyrics; they simply touch every sensitive fiber of my being.
Easily my favorite a-ha song. Growing up with this band in America, where they were largely considered a one-hit band, I considered it a gift to live in a time when we bought albums and listen to a bands "works" and got to appreciate the songs that appealed to us. This was one among many from this band that hit me right in the soul. I'll always love a-ha.
This really has Morten's voice stronger in a very long time! It almost sounds like when he was back in his prime days. Love how clear, crisp and perfect it is. I really love how their voices complements eachother during the chorus..when he joins in "believe me..."...sooo beautiful!
He does sound really good on this acoustic stuff but saw some recent shows from a couple of years ago where he sounded like he was struggling quite a bit singing the more rocky stuff ..if you can call a-ha rocky lol ..but yeah this performance is great
Tears are running down my face while listening to this. I moved to Norway first in 2009. I came back to Germany 2012. Since then, I couldn't forget, I travel up as much as I can, I speak Norwegian fluently. I was searching for something over all these years, and then I just heard this song while on the car, the same old song. I had to pull over to the side. So many pictures and memories. It's breaking my heart. This fall, I'm moving back, there's no option.
This is the song (the original version) that brought me back to a-ha. Or I should say brought them back to me. I heard it in the car a few months ago and I thought, "You know, they really had some great songs" When I got home that day, I went straight to UA-cam looking for some of their old songs that I remembered from back in the day. Being in the US, I thought they were long gone but needless to say I was shocked (and Very happy) to start seeing all these newer things from them, It started me on my current quest to find everything I can from them.
Danielle Dredger Welcome back Danielle. I have loved them since the beginning and consider them the greatest live performing band still around. Plenty of good videos to watch here on UTube. Happy times!!
2년 전 우연히 Take on me를 통해 아하라는 밴드를 알게 됐어요. 그리고 얼마 후 The Sun Always Shines On TV를 처음 들었을 때는 엄청난 충격이였어요.
Morten!! You are such an amazing singer!! OMG!! 30 years later you make this song to be nicer than it was when released! ANd the magic of an excellent unplugged stage! STUNNING!
AHA unplugged Hunting High and Low und The Sun Always Shines on TV - besser geht es nicht! These songs will live on forever. Und die Band sowieso. Und noch viele andere Songs von AHA
Hunting High And Low was my very first cassette which I got from my Nana on my 12th birthday to go with the Walkman my parents gave me. I always preferred this song to 'Take On Me'-- the tension in the opening and that huge synth chorus... a masterpiece. This version takes it to another level entirely with the piano and strings and a duet between Morten and Ingrid... just incredible. Thanks a-ha!
I love many of their songs more than Take on Me. I like to look at it as Take on Me got them in the door and noticed. The world was blessed with all the amazing gifts of songs that followed. ❤
I was only 10 watched this in Philippines in black and white tv. Nostalgic...luv A-HA! They were ahead of their time now I'm 47 it's nostalgic to listen to this song. It's very emotional...one of their best.😘

To me...
Stunning! Great version of this wonderful song! And Morten still can sing like he does back in 1985. :o a-ha is truly one of the best Bands that still exist!
I love this new version just as much as the original, it’s wonderful they are still performing and innovating their music. It is timeless and a lot of people think they only did Take on Me! Poor fools!!
@@marjoriemcbride6557 People only think they did Take on Me, What a really silly comment you just made Since when??? In US they had 2 hit singles + a hit album: Hunting High + Low, And countries like UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Denmark Switzerland, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Poland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Greece, Hungary, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Brazil, etc They had many hit singles + albums-So your comment made me laugh so hard.....Just common knowledge
I remember reading a number of years ago that this was the perfect pop song...from a compositional point of view (written by a classical music critic). I have always believed they were right in that view.
One of the best songs ever written and this live performance is incredible, the level of satisfaction I get from watching those violinists smashing it out towards the end, music is literally the greatest thing ever
What a great performance..love Ingrid’s natural flow…never fails to amaze me how this innocuous pop song had developed into one of the most meaningful ballads of all time …
This has turned out to be one of the best performances I've ever listened to. Just pure talent and feeling. This whole set is a godsend and this is one of the brightest highlights.
Watching this series of reworked classics, only enforces how fantastically well written these songs are . Yes they are different to the 1980’s high tempo electric sounds, but none the worse for being acoustic, excellent they are 👍
Но вот этот вариант песни a-ha в акустике меня вообще пленил. Что хорошо, то уж хорошо. Молодцы мальчики и девочки. Пианист и скрипачки меня очаровали тоже, не только вокалисты.
I used to run a club in the 80s. It had a great sound system. It was a detached building so any noise didn’t disturb anyone around. Often, when I opened up, the place was completely empty. I had a tape recording of this song and I would play it on volume 10 on the system. It was mind blowing.
36 years later...The sun always shines on Morten.
His voice hasn't changed at all!
2024, the dude is 65,,, Im 59... F,,, we're old as!!! LOL!!!
you are gay
40 ans plus tard,
I liked this unplugged version more than the studio version. The slower tempo makes the song more melancholic and effective I feel.
Totally agree with you.
Also, their voices sound so beautiful together. That desonance might be present in the studio recording but that quality is lost behind all the processing.
That ending, I just paused the video and stared across my room in total disbelief. Like wtf did I just hear? and then the vocals jump in again... Sometimes I think Morten Harket is from another planet.....
Yaa, maybe he on Gandarva ! Demi God.
Him, the dude from Sigur Ros, Bjork; they're all from the same planet.
It's amazing how he's maintained that vocal range 30 years later...

A-Ha is one of the best 80's bands ever. Their music is genius. It's so unique, and superb sounding. Morten's vocals remain timeless.
Tout simplement vrai.
The most underrated band of the 80s. The most underrated singer of all time.
Amazing
This version is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I’ve never heard of Helene Havik until watching this. She absolutely nailed this song. Perfect fit with Morten
She really nailed it. Perfect duo.
Her band is called Highasakite. They are amazing!
@@introvertia1 Looked her up following hearing this and now have a couple of Highasakite cd's, absolutely love it.
33 years later and Morton's voice still amazes me and sends shows through me.

Morten
He’s voice is still amazing your right
What about Lemmy, iggy, ludwig, roy and wendy?
Despite not being their biggest hit, to me this is hands down the greatest A-ha track...and the one I can't resist belting out in traffic when it shows up on shuffle.
rugbynimbus My favourite A-ha track too.
Though this was the song that hit #1 on the UK Charts; Take On Me didn't do that over there. ;)
I agree.
Hunting high & low pushes it close.......👍🇮🇲
Same for me!!
Ingrid has an extraordinary voice too, a pity we don't hear much of her in the rest of Europe. This was an excellent duet - bravo!
The best a-ha song. Don't let anyone tell you any different.
Take on me acoustic was better
Summer moved on is nice as well 😉
My opinion 🔝
A-HA Always signés on tv
hunting high and low
Sublime. Man there's some heavy lyrics in there that you never realise in it's original 80s pop form.
Very well said!
The lyrics are amazing throughout a lot of that whole album

Yeah they got a lot of stick for being pop music, when they were actually much more.

Even as a fan of metal and classic rock in the 70s,80, and 90,s I recognised you guys as a talent, as superb musicians, You stood out . You still do.
Same here. Dragged along by the girlfriend to a smallish venue in London during the early 90’s. Was blown away.

am listening this song on my walkman in 1991 when we are in senior high school...now still feel the same on my 47 years on
This is the most talented group i have ever seen or heard. Wishing them the best ever.💕
Stunning! Great version of this wonderful song! And Morten still can sing like he does back in 1985. :o a-ha is truly one of the best Bands that still exist!
Amazing version of this time lap music!
I love this new version just as much as the original, it’s wonderful they are still performing and innovating their music. It is timeless and a lot of people think they only did Take on Me! Poor fools!!
Melhor banda do mundo.E o vocalista mais lindo do mundo e sexy.
Most definitely
@@marjoriemcbride6557 People only think they did Take on Me, What a really silly comment you just made
Since when???
In US they had 2 hit singles + a hit album: Hunting High + Low, And countries like UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Denmark Switzerland, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Poland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Greece, Hungary, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Brazil, etc They had many hit singles + albums-So your comment made me laugh so hard.....Just common knowledge
How is it possible for music to make you feel so old and so young at the same time?
Oh yes. This is why I couldn’t live without music in my life, every day of my life. I love it when I find diamonds.
I remember reading a number of years ago that this was the perfect pop song...from a compositional point of view (written by a classical music critic). I have always believed they were right in that view.
I was in HS when MTV debut in early 80s and it was a special time for music. This brings back great memories of that time.
30 years later and still buzzing loving it 🤩
Wow! I don't believe I ever heard the original. So glad I found this gem. So ethereal and beautiful. ♥️
I ❤
I’m 52 and was 15 in 1985 when aha stunned the world 🌎 with there music 🎶 15 a very important age, when I listen to this music it moves me inside
God this is such a beautiful song. Morten is too❤
Quelle beauté et douceur et les violons qui les accompagnent c’est juste extraordinaire
Give me goosebumps how amazing this version was. All time fav 80’s song.
Loved the original song, and this version just adds to the mystic of the song itself. Beautiful version of the song which I totally love ❤❤
one of my favorite music version to listen on youtube ever! I saved it and always been coming back for more! What a masterpiece!
He has a magnificent voice.
He. not She.
Wow I’m totally blown away!! My early 20’s suddenly coming back. He still has that amazing voice, just love it!!
From Santiago of Chile, I love A-HA. !! . Blessing
One of the best songs ever written and this live performance is incredible, the level of satisfaction I get from watching those violinists smashing it out towards the end, music is literally the greatest thing ever
Its a track that deserves it, like pi k floyd did with the LPO
Yes! The violinists ❤
What a great performance..love Ingrid’s natural flow…never fails to amaze me how this innocuous pop song had developed into one of the most meaningful ballads of all time …
Morten's voice is simply unreal! It's just gorgeous!😍👌🏻❤️
Outstanding as we have come to expect from a-ha... Morten's voice still has it....
God her voice is so beautiful and unique
This has turned out to be one of the best performances I've ever listened to. Just pure talent and feeling. This whole set is a godsend and this is one of the brightest highlights.
Das Ganze im Sitzen. Hammer. Im Sitzen könnte ich nie so stark in der Stimme sein!
Watching this series of reworked classics, only enforces how fantastically well written these songs are . Yes they are different to the 1980’s high tempo electric sounds, but none the worse for being acoustic, excellent they are 👍
Amazing!!! I can't believe I've only just found this gem. Amazing band, amazing song, amazing performance. Top draw!
I play this song to my 3 yo boy for waking up, and what I get? Smile worth 1000 $... Thank you
Но вот этот вариант песни a-ha в акустике меня вообще пленил. Что хорошо, то уж хорошо. Молодцы мальчики и девочки. Пианист и скрипачки меня очаровали тоже, не только вокалисты.
Now that's an awesome duet. The simplicity in her vocals, yet so fragile. I can watch this over and over.
Truly beautiful. Your voices compliment each other's to pure perfection
I'm getting chills listening to this! So so good. Just amazing. His falsetto is spot on through all these years
Wonderfull Drum arrangement. Subtle and powerful.
Just discovered this while looking at live performances. Still my favourite a-ha song and this version is fantastic 👍
Incredible performance with Ingrid and orchestra.
What a beautiful voice they both have .
Truly amazing that he still has his range. Plus... Hello, Silver Fox!!
