i've had this for two years and I really like it-my only complaint is that it takes longer than I'd like to attach the straps to the bottom of the basket + attaching it can be a bit awkward depending on your load. Threading the straps through the bottom of the basket to reattach it properly gets annoying when I'm running multiple errands, so I often just run it with the top flap bungees attached to the side of my basket-which occasionally ends up pulling the whole bag over so that the front side panel is facing upwards. I might jerry-rig something to the shoulder strap D-rings at some point so that it can be anchored at the center fairly quickly, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Which should tell you that I use it all the time despite my gripes :)
update: running a Voile-type strap through the center loops on the bottom of the bag and securing it at the front of the basket is significantly quicker and in my experience about as secure as clipping both of the provided buckle straps! with this slight hack I am a happy, happy commuter. would probably just detach the Voile strap if I was going on a day trip or longer when I didn't anticipate taking it on and off the bike much/at all.
Sweet bag! The materials and design look top-notch. I use an old Specialites TA rando bag but I'd give this a try, I would. It's affordable if one is comparing it to the traditional rando bags on the market; Berthoud, Swift, Jitensha Studio, etc. A shoulder strap would be beneficial perhaps. Thanks, superb review.
I use a North St. Scout 14 duffle. It fits perfect, has lots of room, great in the rain and way less expensive. Also, it has a strap to carry off bike. I use Gear Ties to hold it down.
I like it, but I have a Wald 139 basket, which is bigger. I wonder if Outer Shell would consider making a bag for that basket? edit: Looks like they are per comments on the basket bag on their site. Also, one of your few dislikes is it looks a bit "bikey" but when I looked closer at the bag it does pinch together at the top and can be used with a shoulder strap and doesn't really look very bike at all in that mode.
If you put pictures of your kids/friends/dog/landscapes/inspirational pictures under the plastic instead of maps, then you'll just look like some sentimental chap at the grocery store. :)
First, I don’t use a basket but I have a Rando bag. If I were to put a basket on my bike it would be for the ability to throw just about anything in it. Also, a bag that you can just grab and carry would be preferable. For touring I would just use my dedicated Rando bag without the need for the basket.
Do you commute with this bag? Do you think it serves as a good everyday bag for a teacher who commutes and would it be large enough? I would carry stacks of graded paper, breakfast, lunch, water bottles, and perhaps a change of clothes if I want to go workout after work.
May I ask you the size(width) of your handlebar in this video? I know it's quite an old video, but if you remember still now, please let me know. Cuz I don't have Wald basket(only have a small rack), and I'd like to compare the size with handle bar before buying this bag. :D
I like the functionality of this for just pure riding. The Sugarloaf makes a great multi-purpose bag, but has a little less capacity. This bag is on par in functionality with a traditional rando bag. I actually like this better because it is longer (better for holding things like a gorillapod).
Great review and very nice bag. Price is reasonable for the features and construction. Putting it on my wishlist.
My brompton bag has a reflective strip across the front that I think is a great safety feature for any bike related bag to have.
Handsome bag! Thanks for the review.
You should check out the ReLoad Wald basket bag...they also make a very nice seat bag that is much like a small bike packing tail bag

@@ericfreef Thanks for this helpful insight! Sort of #lifehack ;)

There are D rings for a shoulder strap, but it didn’t ship with one.

I love the Scout 11. Wasn’t a fan of the 14. I thought that it never held its shape well also the rounded walls never made full use of the space.
Path Less Pedaled Yeah, it does get wonky, but I reinforced it with plastic, bendable cutting boards.

I think it is the big plastic top that seems very bike specific to me.
Gotcha! I do like it. I will be tempted when they make their Wald 139 version, but it is pretty pricey...

they now make a 139 specific back, the rack bag if i recall correctly.

For that kind of use I would lean towards the Reload Waldo Basket bag we just reviewed. ua-cam.com/video/SNngs8NnDto/v-deo.html

@@PathLessPedaledTV Thank you so much!
How do you like this vs the swift sugarloaf? Or a traditional rando bag?

Thanks for asking this! I have a couple of small bags from both Swift and outer shell and was trying to decide which one to get for my basket.
Could you mount this to your handlebars and use it without a basket?
No. Will need at least a porteur rack.
I like the bag too but the price is way too high
ReLoad makes one that is more citybike oriented.....it’s definitely on my list of “I wants”
