Reminds me of my youth. As a kid I use to go with my parents to pick wild plums off the side of the backroads and we'd make jars and jars of plum preserves. It was so good!
I bought a Ball Jelly and Jam maker 2 yrs. ago, it makes 4-5 jelly jars at a time, but boy is it easy on this old girl's back, you don't have to stand over it, I bought my daughter one this year and she was a jamming gal this year. Love jams and jelly
Impressive as always, Kimmy!! A little hint .... once the lids have "popped" you can remove the rings so you can re-use them. The jars are already sealed, so the rings aren't necessary (and you don't have to go buy more!)
Great video!!! I just moved into a new house with a plum tree and cant wait to use your recipe! I think it should be mentioned though, a household dishwasher is not capable of reaching 185 degrees which is used for sanitizing. I'm sure the way you do it is 99% effective but for canning and sanitizing it is always best to boil the jars as well.
When you are working with clean jars, then putting them through a dishwasher, you are going to be completely safe for a high sugar jelly that will then go through a water bath. You are not performing surgery, you are making jam!
This made me miss my grandma. She used to send my male cousins to pick blackberries....then she wouls make blackberry pies, and jam. Making memories, passing on recipes, skills, special rituals/routines is invaluable, intangible, and what is truly important.
Yum! Thanks for sharing! I just wanted to share that my mom told me she discovered if you place the jar upside-down while it's all still warm, it all seal and then you don't have to worry about the boiler.
This looks so good. My husband and I picked some raspberries and blackberries over the summer and made some jelly it's so good. But we just do it on the stovetop we actually juiced the berries and cooked the juice and put sure-jell in it and then put it in the jars it gets hot enough to seal them. Thanks for sharing your method
I love plum jam!! I guess you can throw a plum pit in while boiling to help thicken it up. Apparently it is really high in natural pectin. Obviously you'd want to remove it before jarring up your jam. I haven't tried this myself as I used store bought pectin last time. But next year's batch I will try it, as well as making it spiced plum jam. I thought at sounded amazing as well! Love the canning video kimmy!
Good video! I love plum jam. I also make plum / blueberry / apricot jam. And I also add Realemon Lemon juice to my plum jams since I like my jams to be a bit more tart. One note to add to your video...you should remove the rings on the jam jars before storing them. The rings can rust and can ruin your jam. Also, don''t stack your jars in storage.
Yum! TFS! I wanted to tell you that was so sweet of you to take supper over to the Dyches family after the birth of baby Roswell. It looked yummy and I am sure they appreciated your thoughtfulness. We try to do that for people we know as well. You are both two great families! God bless you! -Cara ☺❤
I live in Norway, and a lot of us have too hot basements to store jam etc these days. So most of us just freeze all kinds of jam. That make it so much easier. But of course; it takes up space in the freezer. I have two boxes; a small one just for jam. Your jam looks good!
Looks SO yummy! I love seeing jams and jellies in jars. 😍 A little tip to stop from getting the white film covering the jars and lids from hard water is to put a bit of white vinegar in the water in the canner. I PROMISE you never will taste it in your product. Just a tablespoon or so in a pressure canner and about 1/4 cup in a full water bath canner.
Hi Kimmy! I agree, plum jam is so delicious! If you are concerned about the jars being too hot for the table, you can put them on cookie cooling racks with towels on top of the racks, gets the jars up off the table a bit. Did you find your other canner? That's a lot of yummy jam, good job!
Jam is so easy after you get past the fear of that first jam making session. I'm making 50 1/4 pint jars for my daughter's wedding favours for her guests...she's doing 50 of apple sauce (Fall Country Fair themed wedding).
Thank u for sharing such a grt reciepe. Can u pl tell me whats d reason to put jars in hot water after filling, if i skip this step what problem i hv to face.
Help I did just as recipe stated I did the plate test and I thought it was ready. I’ve already idi the water bath but now 3 hours later it’s not setting up right. What do I do?
Great video Kimmy, I got gifted a tonne of greengages from Nana over the weekend and think I'll be making lots of compote this week to use them up. Plum jam is my absolutely favourite!
I like to ask how it turns red the jam's i mad are yellowish colors no peeling but then again there are multiple kinds of plums early season plums are more yellow inside here i have over 30 trees
Great tutorial! I cook them with the seeds in them. It reduces the waste of plum meat!! Cook them down with sugar and keep cooking to desired thickness. Then food process them and strain out the seeds. Google No pectin method. Bit easier than pulling out the seeds
What's the purpose of putting them in the bath? Is it because of your specific lids and rings system? I reuse store jars and just seal them after putting the jam in. Has always worked a treat.
Thank you for this video! This was very informative. I have been desperately wanting to can for a LONG time. Im wanting to put up some large peppers from our garden and tomatoes this year. My ultimate goal is to eventually be able to put enough up from my garden to last us the whole winter. I also want to start entering into my state fair. I have that same canning pot. I use it to steam tamale. I just prop the basket off the bottom with a small metal bowl and cover the basket bottom with foil that has holes punched in it. It works great ant they are a great way to add variety to snack or lunch options. 😊
a tip for jelly making only make one batch at a time because you cant dble the pectin aka sure jel and always put your jars in the water bath canner to sanitize properly that is what my momma taught me many moons ago. tighten the rings of the jar finger tip tight once you have processed them and they are on you kitchen towels don't mess with them for 24hrs (if you use the pink box of sure jel you will use less sugar )
My damson tree is laden this year but we are a bit behind you in Ireland for harvesting times, they probably won't be ready for another 3 weeks then I will be doing the same job!
love your videos...been wanting to can food but hadn't checked out how to do it yet but now i know!!! "Remember when your mom would drop you off at the movies with a jar of jam and a spoon" FRIENDS lol
Hello Kimmy. Thanks for sharing how to make plum jam. I wish I had fruit trees producing fruit to be canned. Your blue flowered table cloth is pretty. Do you happen to remember where you got it? I love watching your channel for inspiration. I pray you are enjoying every part of your life and give yourself permission to relax. PERFECTION DOES NOT EQUAL HAPPINESS!!!👍👏🙌😀😊
Very cool video Kimmy! I've always wanted to can stuff but I am too intimidated! This answered a lot of questions about canning that I had. If I lived closer, I'd hit ya up for one of those jars of jam! ;-) LOL!!!!
Ahhhh large quantities of canned food is so comforting lol. Just feels so prepared. Is your table ok??? I was anxious when you were putting your hot jars on your brand new finish :O I know you used 3 tablescloths so probably fine but eeeeeeeeee
thanks for this how to vid.. one concern I had was the dirty paper towel you wiped the top edges with.. then put a sterilized lid on top??? That is not very sanitary. I'd say you blew it right there.. but I learned a bunch from your vid.. thanks again
Have you made the Candy Apple Jelly yet? It is on "The Kneady Homesteader". Here is the link just scroll down and you'll find it. thekneadyhomesteader.com/tag/jelly/
What's the consistency suppose to be like. I tried this, and my mom says it's way too watery to be jam. I'm wondering if the lack of pectin is to blame, or if I need to boil it a lot longer.
Don't forget to slide a plastic knife down in along the side prior to putting the lid on to get the air bubbles out. Where did you get that awesome camp stove?
Jelly is made from the juice only of berries and fruits. It has no pulp. Jams are made with the whole berry or fruit and contain the pulp and peels of most fruits. The peels have natural pectin in them and help to make the jam " gel".
You can use lemon juice to gel the jam as its loaded with pectin ! It can help stave off a runny product . Why put the jars in the broiler i have never seen that done ! Whats the necessity
Karen Nuckles My grandma used to make jam all the time and she never used Sure Jell or Pectin and really if you think about it did the women in like the pioneer days use Sure Jell or Pectin in their jams/jellies/perseveres? I think not so I doubt its a requirement to tasty jam. 😘
This looks so good! Those jars a really cute! I like making jam or homemade berry syrup and us it as Christmas gifts for neighbors and church friends! :)

does that always work? does the lid suck up and push out all the air?
I’ve got too many plums to handle in my backgarden. Will give this a try to use them up. It would make a nice gift too homemade. Thank you

Love plum anything and jam is so good!

Yum! That's doesn't look too hard at all! I will be bottling salsa this weekend. I love fresh homegrown fruits and veggies nothing better!
I just put up 2 10 gallon buckets full of plumbs. Made plumb jam and plumb syrup. Wow!! Love your vlogs! :-)
Just made half the amount you have made and it tastes delicious. Thank you for the video x

We have two plum trees in our front yard. I might have to give this a try.
I grew up with those white plates with blue floral.
How fun! The Plum jam jelly looks good. Great video.
Use a deep stock pot with a wire rack in the bottom for another water bath canner
Hi Kimmy! I agree, plum jam is so delicious! If you are concerned about the jars being too hot for the table, you can put them on cookie cooling racks with towels on top of the racks, gets the jars up off the table a bit. Did you find your other canner? That's a lot of yummy jam, good job!

I've been putting off getting canning supplies. I really should. Love jam! Great video.
I always wondered if the dishwasher sanitized them well enough. I love the popping sound the lids make!
Thank u for sharing such a grt reciepe. Can u pl tell me whats d reason to put jars in hot water after filling, if i skip this step what problem i hv to face.
That's good idea of ur funnel. Soon I am going to make jam too.

would lemons or strawberrys be a good mixture?
I want to try making my own jam I bet it tastes better than store bought
Great tutorial! I cook them with the seeds in them. It reduces the waste of plum meat!!
Cook them down with sugar and keep cooking to desired thickness. Then food process them and strain out the seeds. Google No pectin method. Bit easier than pulling out the seeds
cooking the pits with the plums? I always thought the pits were toxic.
@@gaylefynaut562 yeah they have a bitter taste too don't they
such a soothing and motivating video
Do you have to do the bath part? or will they seal without it?
What's the purpose of putting them in the bath? Is it because of your specific lids and rings system? I reuse store jars and just seal them after putting the jam in. Has always worked a treat.
So, it wasn't strained right? you left the skin bits in there?
I make that with figs every year. Yummy!
After your jars are fully cooled you can, and should remove the rings. Otherwise you run into the rings rusting in place.
do you have to add the sugar whst if I can't have sugar
Thank you for this video! This was very informative. I have been desperately wanting to can for a LONG time. Im wanting to put up some large peppers from our garden and tomatoes this year. Great video. One question, wat was the amount of water?
I'm going to go and look for some plums thank hou
Loved this recipe. Thanks for sharing 😍👍👍👍
autumn is in the air.. 😁
Good job👍

You don’t need the warm canning bath for jam. The high sugar content preserves it without this stage.
Wonderful 💕
My damson tree is laden this year but we are a bit behind you in Ireland for harvesting times, they probably won't be ready for another 3 weeks then I will be doing the same job!
yay. finallyfirst to comment. i look forward to your videos every morning
love your videos...been wanting to can food but hadn't checked out how to do it yet but now i know!!! "Remember when your mom would drop you off at the movies with a jar of jam and a spoon" FRIENDS lol
Boy you have a lot of patience!! Not sure I could manage that😊xx
How many jars did you end up making??
Hello Kimmy. Thanks for sharing how to make plum jam. I wish I had fruit trees producing fruit to be canned. Your blue flowered table cloth is pretty. Do you happen to remember where you got it? What happens if the jars don't pop ? re- boil them ?
Y do u bath them after I have never done jarring b4
Very cool video Kimmy! I've always wanted to can stuff but I am too intimidated! This answered a lot of questions about canning that I had. If I lived closer, I'd hit ya up for one of those jars of jam! ;-) LOL!!!!
defiantly going to try the plum jam, I'm making chutney and piccalilli while watching xx
wow, yum. I love jam. Thank you for the recipe.
Hi, I have a Japanese plum tree, would I use the same method for making jam?
Thank you!
That looks so yummy!
Hi Kimmy! Mmmmm, that looks so yummy. I'm sure it turned out delicious. Have a nice day!!!
Was curious about the consistency once it cooled & was ready to eat. Hoping you share in future video!
This is so helpful thank you. How long did you bathe the jars for?
Kimmie,
how long did it take to do 1 batch? do you have any recipes to substitute all the sugar ? will honey work ?
What about pectin?
amazing illustration. thank you
About how long did u boil you jam for?
How long did it take to set up
Ahhhh large quantities of canned food is so comforting lol. Just feels so prepared. Is your table ok??? I was anxious when you were putting your hot jars on your brand new finish :O I know you used 3 tablescloths so probably fine but eeeeeeeeee

Boil it longer it should be like lava
Also is it possible to reuse your jars and airtight reseal them?
Creepypasta & Squirrels-Ami E. Bowen and
Great video! How do you store them and how long can they last 😀
How long do they have to preserve for, before you can begin to use them?
After they have been water bathed you can eat them right away.
what's the shelf life?
Don't forget to slide a plastic knife down in along the side prior to putting the lid on to get the air bubbles out. Where did you get that awesome camp stove?
great job kimmy wish I was there to try it on a fresh biscuit lol yum
You didn't need to add butter, pectin or lemon juice?
Have you every heard of a Victorio? It is an amazing thing to help with canning! It even gets raspberry seeds out of the raspberries!!
Not sure you will read this..but your videos always make me happy. Thank you! Oh Tried the Blueberries muffin recipe everyone loved it!
What's the difference between jam & jelly?
Jelly is made from the juice only of berries and fruits. It has no pulp. Jams are made with the whole berry or fruit and contain the pulp and peels of most fruits. The peels have natural pectin in them and help to make the jam " gel".
Jimin can get jelly but not jams
lindsey smith Depends where you are from.

Yup. This time it's to the point. :)
I'm sure Jimin will be happy if i made this for him

Do you want the jam to pull back or no?
