Its sad but the Canadian said it best. Things started changing after WWII because the wealth gap started shrinking along with Voting being enforced and Civil Right in the 60s. Under Reagan things started to change and he played a major role in that. All you have to do is look at America from 1980 on and focusing on the wealth gap has grown after every time tax breaks are given because it disproportionately benefits the wealthy, in the end the Middleclass has paid for it each time. Another contributing factor is how Reagan also played a Major role the Iran Contra Scandal that flooded American streets with Cocaine of which the profits were used to fund a War. Ollie North ended up being the scapegoat, but he was just following orders.

      Just answer me this:
How can a country ever be great when it was stollen and built on slave labour. America has extremely toxic roots, this poison chalice will flow in every facet of American life. Therefore, America can never be great, has never been great and isn't great at all, period.
It is only Trumptards that believe America was great in a year like 1957, i.e. the pre-civil rights era and the period before women's emancipation. Getting back to this so called "golden age" is what the "red MAGA caps" are all about.

Our country America, is the greatest country because we were founded on an idea that everyone should be able to go within and find God in whatever way we choose. No other country was begun with God as it's focus. America was an idea that is still perfect for today!
There is only one created understanding which is the Image of the uncreated and this suffices for all men. Some may THINK we do not need God because they THINK that all men are good. Men are not GOOD; God is GOOD--and unless you get in the mix with God and rebind your dislocated soul to God and regenerate you miss out. This is the only reason why we are all here. Any questions?

It's too broad of a question, there are always great and horrible moments in history, and that will never change no matter how much more great this country gets. You can't just flat out say "50s!", if you do you make yourself suspicious as to why that time period was so "great" in your mindset.

Great economy, great music, in terms of happiness, unique car styles, clothes styles and hairdos, dance fads, no cell phones, less stress, more connection with nature, more love and respect, no terrorism, cheap gas, bars and lounges with live music, free concerts, great entertainers, one parent could support a family, & more. This is such a great question! I have always wondered about that. 'Again' obviously suggests it 'was'. But when? And the big question - if it was, for whom? From what I see, there is still racism (over 25% of the US isn't white), sexism (of course, about 50% are women) and poverty (about 14% of the population but that varies based on the source). So, my guess is this - America was and is great for white men. If you are white and male, you rule. If you aren't, things have improved, but great? No, not all

However, the point I am making is that America couldn't possibly have been great under Jim Crow with all that lynching of black people going on.

That's a question with a very subjective answer. Personally, things were better when I was very young (too young to know what was really going on). My dad, a black WWII vet who married his childhood sweetheart. I was raised in a neighborhood built for black veterans. Our schools & teachers were the best, they really cared about us and made us proud of who we were. Since we were up north we were not subjected to the blatant Jim Crowe (which I had no idea even existed at the time) and everyone was working. Neighbors were all - teachers, police, factory, nurses, oil & gas, steel mill, ship yard, Scott Paper ... etc. We children were temporarily shielded from what our parents knew (for a while life was good - with the exception of the black and white TV images that told us we did not exist unless we were singing and dancing, Buckwheat, maids, and steppin and fetchin with Shirley Temple). And THEN came the black & white images of the lunch counter murders and dogs and fire hoses and church bombings - 3 little girls died on my eighth birthday. There were occasional heroes who made their way to the top, there were those who lost their way, there were some who took a stand and paid a price. Once I saw that hatred, I have never felt the same way about America since. The problem is people who don't love themselves. It takes a lot of energy to be that hateful, it's a cancer that will eat you from the inside out. It often goes underground until someone gives it a whistle but it's ALWAYS been there. God don't like ugly and America is full of it - GOD is coming.

The elder gay man gave one of the best answers. In the economic context, the 50s were a great time: one person working, a stay at home mom, and 2-3 kids, all under a single salary, in a decent house with a car. In the social context, for him, today is a better time: he can get married and live his life to the fullest without hiding it.
If he’s a Trump supporter, I’d let it slide. At least he has shown to have given serious consideration as opposed to blindly following someone.

It was a worse time to be black in the 50s because anything they built in an economic context was just burnt down and destroyed or made out of reach by white man who don't want the black man have anything. Both black parents had to work in jobs that barely make ends meet in positions nobody wants with no means of a promotion.

There is no wrong or right answer. One gentleman touched on it in the video...He said it depends on what issues you are speaking about.
But If I had to answer,I would say it was NEVER GREAT because of the effect of SLAVERY...which continues today through SYSTEMIC RACISM, which many people ignorantly feel does not exsist.
In order for any BODY to be great there can be no PAIN OR DISEASE OR DISORDER anywhere in the body...RACISM, CORPORATE GREED are just some of the illnesses that have plagued this nation for decades, thus preventing it from becoming great, with seemingly no cure in the horizon.

That is a great question, in my mother’s days were never great for people of color. Y’all know that. Though the southern whites thought it was a wonderful time for everybody they tried to tell themselves we were happy living in conditions less than, many thought that, except the people of color. Many got mad when Michelle made her statement about America, but it was true, we, my mothers children are actually the first generation in her family that actually lived free with liberties, voting rights and education going where we want, living where we want, yes we are the first “free” generation those of us born after the 50s.

One thing I do know is TAKING AWAY PEOPLES' RIGHTS IS NOT GREAT, ENDING THE CONSTITUTION IS NOT GREAT, GIVING MORE POWER TO ONE PERSON IS NOT GREAT, DEMANDING LOYALTY TO ONE PERSON IS NOT GREAT, HAVING A DICTATOR IS NOT GREAT, ALIGNING THE GOVERNMENT WITH ANY RELIGION IS NOT GREAT, HAVING A CONVICTED FELON RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IS NOT GREAT, REMOVING THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE(REAGAN) WAS NOT GREAT,
SO MANY THINGS TO ADD TO THE LIST...SO LITTLE TIME AND SPACE.

I think individuals who thought this inept, lowlife, bottom dwelling piece of dung was a better candidate to gain the WH were either on some mind altering drug or they are just as dumb as he is! With all the negativity he had previous to his announcement to run and now with all he’s done that’s been contrary to the oath he took, it’s a fair and true statement that those who supported him then and those who still do so are bottom dwelling pieces of dung!! Any attempt at a rebuttal to what I’ve posted would be nothing more than a futile attempt at defending the indefensible!!

I'VE lived outside of the US and you don't know what you're talking about. There is great stupidity and divisiveness in the very question "when was America great". It basically asks people to decide when it was great for them. Includes nothing about the various aspects of any country that could make it great or not great. Americans are too obsessed with BEING THE BEST AT EVERYTHING....EVEN WHEN WE ARE NOT. " AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM" by Reagan is MYTHOLOGY that appeals to EGO.

America has never been great! Greatness to me would be defined by how you treat those who reside in that place and also how as a country you show compassion to your neighbor countries and allies! Some have been afforded centuries of being treated well while others have been treated horribly! America has failed miserably in that category! How about this slogan, Let’s make America great for once and then attempt to keep it where all are treated the same across the board! No privileges afforded to any one ethnicity because of their ethnicity! My opinion on this particular matter. I’m sure the Simpletons will find fault in MY OPINION! So What!!
