Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
    0:00 Introduction
    1. 1:56 When reading and studying the Bible, when is a good time to refer to a second translation to clarify what I’m reading?
    2. 5:22 How do we reach a fellow believer who is not only believing in the lies but siding with them in the MSM when it comes to politics (i.e. Trump) or about any conservative viewpoint?
    3. 9:11 How can we look at Psalm 37: 4 without falling into a WOF trap?
    4. 15:27 Can a Christian work in the CIA, NSA, etc. when lying and deception is part of the job? You lie to enemies, other times you lie to your family, ex: saying you work for State dept. to maintain cover.
    5. 20:47 Over the past year, my wife has gained a lot of weight. She’s been wanting to have more intimacy, but lately I don’t feel any sexual desire or lust toward her. Is sexual deprivation toward a spouse a sin?
    6. 27:28 Mike, any comments for Christians? US Congress convened in the name of the Hindu god Brahma, and all the other monotheistic Gods called by other names. Then they said, Amen, Awoman… Idolatry?
    7. 30:50 How can my relationship with God grow even more? I have felt so many times that I am “not there yet” or as if the fire I used to have is gone and something is wrong between me and God.
    8. 33:51 The Epistle of Jude cites Enoch and the Testament of Moses. How do we know this letter isn't a fabrication of sorts like from Gnostic sects, and was snuck in during the council that established the NT?
    9. 36:26 Please recommend reading for marriage counseling. Christian counselors say too submissive = codependent; biblical counselors say if you're submissive enough your spouse will repent (about 1 peter 3:1).
    10. 43:39 What happens to all of the people who lived and died before Jesus was born? How will they be judged and saved?
    11. 46:00 I am an ex-Catholic still doing a daily Rosary. I understand the theological problems. Can you suggest a replacement daily devotional?
    12. 51:46 Does Hebrews 2: 17 "like them in every respect" indicate that Jesus had the same human nature as we do in every way? If so, can we conclude that we, like him, are born with an innocent human nature?
    13. 54:32 Christians are using John 16: 13 to qualify a wide variety of claims, believing that the Holy Spirit led them to particular beliefs or practices. To what extent does this apply to a Christian today?
    14. 58:47 I watched the conscience video and Romans 14: 23 confuses me. My conscience is so weak at the moment that I doubt just about everything…basic things. Should I obey my anxious inklings every time?
    15. 1:02:37 What are your thoughts about going to church during a pandemic?
    16. 1:03:50 In Judges 20: 18, why did God appear to deceive Israel and Judah as they sought His help in bringing justice on the tribe of Benjamin? They lost 40,000 people before He actually helped them.
    17. 1:10:53 If the man in the Gospel of Mark was born blind, how did he even know what trees look like? This troubles me a bit.
    18. 1:12:32 Do we have extrabiblical evidence for the earthquake & darkness that took place at the time of the crucifixion?
    19. 1:13:21 In the U.K., COVID-19 laws are getting stricter. As Christians, are we obligated to follow these rules even we think some of them are pointless and could put a strain on relationships?
    20. 1:15:19 What are your thoughts on baptizing children? my 8-year-old has made a profession of faith that we feel is genuine. Should we wait until he is older, say 12 or 13?
    21. 1:18:10 Have you reached out to Dr. Michael Brown to discuss TPT? I believe he endorsed it. I've been loving the passion project by the way!
    22. 1:19:07 Are re-baptisms biblical?
    23. 1:21:02 What do I do if I have to be around someone who is easily angered and I have to walk on eggshells?
    24. 1:22:40 I recently started posting Christian UA-cam videos, and I have really enjoyed your second channel where you give advice for UA-cam. Do you plan on still doing that in the future?
    25. 1:23:48 Why does the Holy Spirit grieve, and not the Father or Jesus?

I’ve kind of found this whole election business to be a blessing. I’ve completely lost faith in anyone in government. Sometimes I think something good might come from a politician but 2020 just squashed all of that. And that’s good in my opinion. I shouldn’t put faith in a politician because politicians aren’t going to bring about the kingdom. Put that faith in Jesus. Give politicians the honor they deserve but God deserves all of your faith.

  • @ChurchCinematics
    @ChurchCinematics 3 роки тому +4

I just gotta say, this Q&A really hit home in a lot of ways. I just got re-baptized this past Sunday, 20 years since my original dunking. Not because I thought I lost my salvation somewhere along the way but because I was only 6 years old and looking back I feel my parents were trying to rush me into the kingdom before I truly understood repentance and accepting Christ as Lord.
This also sparked a question in my mind over the age of accountability and at what cognitive level of development a child becomes capable of understanding and responding to the message of Christ. I don’t want to put a number on others but I think, at least for me, 6 was too young.
Coincidentally, I’ve also been wondering about the ethical dilemma of a spy using deceit. I think their level of deceit is categorically different because they’re not operating out of selfishness but out of a greater duty for others.
Way to go, Mike, hittin’ me with the triple whammy!

With regards to question five I think the husband should show some grace to his wife there are MANY reasons why people may gain weight. Issues such as hypothyroidism, PCOS, Cushing’s syndrome to name but a few and that’s without including medications and also many mental illnesses (which are just as serious) which can also cause fluctuations in weight. Obsessing about someone else’s weight is dangerous and it can lead to eating disorders. Additionally in a marital relationship it can be abusive, I know of women whose husbands have made them be weighed in a daily basis to check if they’ve gained a lb and would be reprimanded if they had. Clearly that is unacceptable. Christian husbands should love their wives as Christ loved the church. The husband is the head of the wife, and think about this, if you have a sore leg, for example you’ve broken it do you chop it off? Of course not! The parts of your body which are sore or less healthy you nurture and love and protect more, you may for example take time off to rest. Why should the wife be treat any differently? You shouldn’t discard her! If she is poorly or sick she should be loved more! My heart breaks for the woman involved imagine if she finds out her husband wrote in such a question! I have been praying for her. (Obviously this goes vice versa no spouse should be abusive to the other)

One thing God will tell you when you ask is, 'Sometimes it is your time to lose.'. People don't want to hear that. They don't want to hear that their failing now will be victory for someone else later. Even when you feel the need to cry out & do something, sometimes the answer is be a good person, as much as you can. The struggle is the same though. You are the one taking the hit, but you knew that when you decided to follow God (if not then, now).
If you think you need to stand up & protest peacefully, then do so. We may need to do that sooner than you think. That isn't a call to violence though or over stepping the law because you want to. The king doesn't carry the sword in vain.
That said, you might lose that fight. You go up, even if it is to your death in the name of Christ. Still, I don't recall any of those saints dieing in a blaze of glory. They died as a corrupt government treaded them down.
It always seems odd to me when someone claiming to be Christian thinks they will over throw the Romans. That isn't as you were told by Christ. It isn't what Christ came to do.
The Republican party isn't the Christian party, nor are the Democrats. We need to stand & pray. Maybe it is our time to lose. I don't want to hear that either, but neither do the saints beneath the alter. That time will come when it is appointed to. Follow God, not your heart.
If you think I am just making that up. Read Revelation. Read Romans. Read the Gospels. Jesus could have taken on Rome, but he doesn't. Paul could have defied the Roman system he knew was corrupt, but he worked within it. The saints gathered under the alter in Revelation awate the day of judgement with great desire that it be done. Still they wait & that is just fine.
No one makes it out of this world alive. Even Jesus died before rising. If God didn't avoid death, can you not accept it as it comes? I live until the Lord relieves me of that & with faith unto salvation. Bend the knee to whom you follow, but you will bend the knee. It is the choice. I choose God.
    It is. Amen

On the question of whether those who came before Jesus are saved, Heb 11:39-40 answers this "39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect." Not sure where else to write this as I’m not on social media, but just wanted to say thank you, Mike, for that day you posted on UA-cam about your bible study happening tonight, in person. My husband & our 3 young sons & I will be praying for that together today and trust that the Word will dwell richly in your midst and the Holy Spirit empower and further instruct each person gathering there. Love how it said, “look for the Dove”. So awesome. My hubby is also starting up his men’s group/Bible study this month as well, meeting in person, and so many men are responding and coming! Makes me think of that older but stellar song “What this dying world needs is a willing man of God! Who goes against the grain and works without applause... etc”. Thankful as well for your video on TPT... yikes, I must admit I fell for some of that version myself and was sorrowfully convicted listening to your discussion, in a way that led to repentance and sweeter freedom in the Lord with a deeper reverence for His living & active Word. It’s funny, even as I was reading TPT, I thought, “hmm that sounds nice, but I wouldn’t go to the effort of memorizing that.” Blessings and please know if you and your family ever make your way to the Okanagan Valley, our little guest cottage is open to you, brother (and fam!)

While I totally agree with everything Mike said on question five, I feel like you should also talk about this with your wife, and both spouses should do their best to be desirable to each other. I'm not saying that someone should be a supermodel to keep their spouse, but you should do what you can to make their duty to fulfill your needs a joy rather than a chore. I feel like this should just be part of any loving marriage though.

The question was for the husband d and what he can do. Only we can control ourselves. And we aren't called to love each other based on what the other person does. We don't know why the wife gained weight but probably the startin point for the husband is to love her. Maybe she's depressed, maybe her hormones have changed due to a health concern, maybe she's a new mom neglecting herself because she hasn't figured out yet how to care for herself while caring for someone who is fully dependant. I think Mike took the right road of not commenting on what you have commented here.
If the question was "are we required to stay attractive to the other person" Maybe there would be a place for what you're talking about. But mikes answer was well-rounded, for the question asked.

    Hi Pastor Mike,
Thanks for these videos. I really enjoy watching you and the gentle way in which you teach with wisdom and the heart you have for God and the gospel.
At 54:00, when you say infants are not guilty, David clearly states that we are sinful since conception in the womb Psalm 51:5. This shows me that we are guilty or sinful as a result of the Fall, as unfortunate as it is.
HOWEVER, I'd also like to point out that after David's sin with Bathsheba and God taking away his child as a consequence of his sin, scripture does indicate that David would see his child again, that he would go to his child. 2 Samuel 12:23. This might mean he would see his son with God.
It does seem to me that unborn children, or children who pass away before they reach an age of a functioning conscience, enter glory and go home to the Lord. I sure hope that is the case, and scripture does seem to show me that, although I cannot be 100% certain with my knowledge of the bible.

To the ex-Catholic at 46:00, if you would like to retain the use of your rosary but distance yourself from the invocation of Mary or the kind of rote repetition Pastor Winger mentions, use it as a way to search your heart.
    1) Pray each bead for a different person in your life (or in your public awareness): family first, then close friends and work colleagues, then public officials or other people who may have been on your mind lately - particularly the people that frustrate you, whose worldviews seem antithetical to God's purposes - pray for God to save them, enlighten them, direct them to Him.
    2) If you run out of people to pray for, think of places: cities, states/provinces, countries - areas where the Christian population is enduring difficulties or where the general populace is suffering and needs to hear godly missionaries preaching the light of Christ and the miracle of salvation.
    3) Then, think about the troubles in your life: break them down into moments of contemplation and ask God to fill you up abundantly.
    4) Finally, count your many blessings: use the beads on a rosary (or the knots of an Orthodox prayer rope) to express heartfelt thanksgiving for every rich blessing God has worked in your life.
Now, you need not pray for the same points every day, but try using your rosary as a goad to push you further in prayer. You could also mix in Psalms when you get to the larger beads, and when you complete the rosary, end with a good published devotional reading. I recommend Charles Spurgeon's "Morning and Evening" to anyone who wants a reliably edifying volume from which you can frequently glean.

Prayer is one of the greatest blessing we have. Jesus gave us the right to come before the Father with full faith that He will hear us, it just seems wasted on repetitious prayer.
I think repetitious prayer takes away from the personal interaction of prayer. That moment in desperate prayer when you feel Him cover you, and the ones when you are so full of praise you can almost feel it flowing out to Him.
As to the rosery beads, they really aren't much more than a counter, maybe she can make a list of friends, family, community, she can pray for and each bead can be the person place or thing on her prayer list until that becomes as natural for her as the repetition was in the past. And she might even feel the Lord draw nearer to her. Jesus loves to hear our heart whether its breaking or blossoming...

The comment about congress convening in the name of pagan gods- I really struggle here. I neither desire or feel that any kind of violence is what anyone should do but I find myself trying to find opportunities to speak out and stand up(perhaps too much) against these practices. This country was founded(in my opinion) as a calling from God to be an example of freedom and Liberty to the world. I feel that we are currently watching the great experiment crumble before us and it is so hard when there is nothing we can do to stop it.
I’ve spent my time building my relationship with Christ, helping my family do that same, and preparing ourselves for a storm. I try to build relationships with my community and be a good example of a Christian but boy, it is a daily struggle not to get angry and start screaming from a street corner(exaggeration). I pray for the soldiers abroad, the people of this country, and for the future of this country itself. I hope the ship can right itself. In the meantime, I’ll do what I can in my home and my community

On Q"17. 1:10:53 If the man in the Gospel of Mark was born blind, how did he even know what trees look like? "
The Bible doesn't say he was born blind (contrast John 9, where he may possibly have been born without eyes and Jesus used the clay to create them.). He may have seen trees before becoming blind.
I read an interesting article suggesting that the "Second touch" was needed because the man ) had been blind for a long time and his brain had "Forgotten" how to interpret what he was seeing. This happens sometimes with people who have their sight restored through an operation.

Concerning question 10: Perhaps William Lane Craig is right, from his book, The Only Wise God, he writes:
“is possible that God in his providence so arranged the world that those who never in fact hear the gospel are persons who would not respond if they did hear it. God brings the gospel to all those who he knows will respond to it if they hear it… No one who would respond if he heard it will be lost.”

“Upon the whole I think we may justly infer that the doctrines of passive obedience and non-resistance are not the doctrines of the Bible, and that non-resistance to the supreme powers is no more taught in the Scriptures, than non-resistance to our fellow men, and even to thieves, robbers, and those who use the most abusive violence… The truth is, and the whole spirit of Scripture sustains it, that rulers are bound to rule in the fear of God and for the good of the people; and if they do not, then in resisting them we are doing God service.”

For question 17, most people don’t understand that when Jesus was healing the blind man and the blind man said he sees men as trees it’s because Jesus first opened the mans spiritual eyes. Then He opened his actual eyes. Remember there is the spiritual world and the physical world. Men are not as trees so why would the man see them as trees. It’s because he was seeing into the spiritual world. Also, this explains why Jesus rubbed his eyes twice. Would Jesus really fail at the first try? Of course not. He did it twice because it was two separate eye openings.

Where is any of this in the passage? I consulted The Gospel of Mark by The New International Commentary on the New Testament. Two points are 1) if the man knew what trees were, he wasn't born blind, and 2) he was blind for a long time, as optical images become modified as blindness continues. Another way of phrasing the verse is "I can actually see people, but they look to me like trees-only they're walking". This one commentary isn't the sole source of truth or anything, I'm not claiming that, but you need to make sure what you're seeing is actually there.

On question 20: baptism is an act of the church, so the decision of whether to baptize the child in question should not be solely up to the parents. What does his Sunday School teacher think? What do the elders think? Certainly the parents' input is important, but it isn't their decision.

I have heard psalm 37.4 is actually saying that God is putting desires in your heart, kind of like how He gives us a new heart with new desires that loves righteousness when we are born again. I feel like there is a N.T. verse that corresponds, but I don't recall it rn 😅
I'd love to know the thoughts of other believers on this idea/interpretation. Is it possible? Probable? Utterly untrue? I think it's worth looking into and pondering for sure.
