Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
    0:00 - Introduction
    1. 0:39 {Do you Know of any Biblical Marriage Songs?} I write lyrics for songs and I'm wondering if there are any marriage songs based on biblical theology. I spent years writing one to my wife and it still doesn't work. Looking for examples to follow.
    2. 6:00 {About Jude Quoting Enoch} How do you explain Jude’s apparent quote of the book of Enoch in verses 14-15?
    3. 9:14 {Was Jesus Dead for Three Days?} According to Matthew 12: 40, Jesus predicted He would be dead for 3 days. But according to Mathew 28:1 and Mark 16:9, it seems this wasn’t the case. Thoughts?
    4. 14:50 {About Confession of Sins to Others} Is apologizing to people we’ve sinned against (e.g. lust) always necessary, and if so, to what extent? We must if they know about it, but what if they don't (or are indifferent/hard to contact)?
    5. 17:28 {How to Combat Intrusive Thoughts} As a new Christian, I’m constantly bombarded with intrusive thoughts, including blasphemous ones. I feel guilty sometimes and I wonder if it's me thinking these things. How can I combat this?
    6. 20:59 {About Apologetics being Used in Fiction} How effective do you believe apologetics can be done in works of fiction (like Narnia) rather than just straight arguments? Should there be more of it?
    7. 23:27 {About the 24 Elders} Who are the 24 elders? They are not mentioned in the creation account. Are they a collection of people such as Enoch, Moses, etc.?
    8. 28:54 {Understanding a Difficult Verse} Can you please explain Matthew 10:34-39 where Jesus says a man’s household will be his enemy?
    9. 34:10 {Can we Only Attend Smaller Groups?} I’m an introvert and have never felt comfortable at large Bible studies with people I don’t know. Do I have to enjoy large group studies? Is it OK to stick to small studies with one or two others?
    10. 36:34 {About Evangelism & Guilt/Responsibility} If we don’t share the Gospel with our friends and family, is their blood on our hands?
    11. 40:18 {About Imputed Righteousness} Is imputed righteousness synonymous with forgiveness of sins? Or does God require more than just sinlessness (that is to say: a positive ascribed righteousness)?
    12. 44:00 {About Jesus Making Himself Eq. w/God} The Pharisees were wrong in much of what they did, so wouldn’t that mean they were also incorrect in thinking Jesus was trying to make Himself equal with God?
    13. 48:36 {About Jesus Descending to Hell” If someone believes Jesus had to suffer in Hell for three days after the crucifixion, could they truly be saved? Don't we need to believe it was all accomplished on the cross?
    14. 50:23 {Biblical Wisdom for a Tough Family Situation} My mother-in-law is in a gay marriage. My wife has shared the Gospel with her, but she rejects it. Lord willing, we'd like to have kids. Should there be boundaries between the kid/grandma relationship?
    15. 52:46 {About Aquinas’ Summa Theologica} Have you ever read or studied the work by St. Thomas Aquinas called "Summa Theologica," and if so, what are your thoughts?
    16. 53:44 {About being “In Christ” in Paul’s Letters} In Paul’s prison letters, he uses the phrases “in him, in Christ, and in whom.” He seems to use these a lot in Ephesians 1, but also uses them in Philippians and Colossians. What does it mean?
    17. 58:13 {About Jesus being Truly Man} If Jesus was fully man and subject to time and space, how is John 21: 25 possible? Or is it hyperbole?
    18. 1:01:30 {How Can We Pray Constantly?} What are some practical ways to practice 1 Thessalonians 5:7? Trying to pray constantly can be draining & discouraging because it feels like there are only so many things I can pray over.
    19. 1:07:25 {About the Year of Jesus’ Birth} What year do you believe Jesus was born, and how do you reconcile it with the majority consensus of Herod's death in 4 B.C.?
    20. 1:09:44 {Is Lying Ever OK in Rare Circumstances?} What does the Bible say about lying to protect someone? Like if my brother breaks a vase and I say the dog broke it, or if I take the blame for something I didn’t do?
    ~ Bonus surprise! 1:15:42

If Jesus was born before 4BC (like popular belief among schoolars said it was in 6BC), so when Jesus began his ministry in 29AD, he must been not about 30 years old but already 34 Years Old. it does not made sense.
if he was born on 5BC like some middle east Schollar, in 29AD he already about 33 years old.

I too struggle with intrusive, dark thoughts. It grieves me and I will sometimes fall into hyper analyzing why I’m having them. And I’ve come to the conclusion it is partly my flesh and a spiritual attack. My husband’s been so encouraging that just the fact that it grieves me to have these thoughts is a Beautiful sign that I am saved. I know I’m saved. It just feels so gross when I have them that I’m embarrassed before the Lord. I bring these thoughts to the Lord and feel encouraged that He knows my heart❤️ I will be praying for you.

I wanted to add something about the lying question. Mike, I loved hearing about your take on this. I think there is another reason lying is ok. My dad has dementia. My brothers lied to him and I fought it. I hate lying. I thought he deserved whatever time it took to try to help him know and understand things. However, as he progressed I started to lie. Not because I wanted to. But because I saw that my way was starting to hurt him more than help him. He couldnt process all of the information and it would cause him a great deal of upset. I still hate lying to him but I do believe it is best for him. I hope I am not wrong in this

As a speech therapist who works with dementia patients, I’ll say you are doing the right thing. You aren’t lying to deceive him or to benefit yourself in any way. I often tell caregivers/family members that for the sake of the patient’s quality of life, just play along. Don’t add to it with more unnecessary lies, like adding more details or pretending it’s 1988, but just roll with it. Don’t argue or try to correct them, it’s extremely stressful and does not improve anything. It’s hard on everyone. If you think you’d like more help on how to support your dad, you could seek a consultation for your dad with a speech therapist.

@@CourtneyBrimm Speech therapists work with dementia patients? Can you tell me morr about it, how come? I want to study computer science as a Bachelor but take a lot of linguistics courses alongside, and I'm very interested in cognitive science so I might do a Master's in cognitive science after my Bachelor's. Do you know how that would enable me to work something related to degenerative brain conditions? I wouldn't be a doctor or a therapist with such a Master's, I believe. I'm sorry if I'm asking too many questions, and thank you in advance for your insight. :)

    • @CourtneyBrimm
      @CourtneyBrimm 3 роки тому

@@essennagerry I’m afraid I don’t know much about cognitive science and/or how it may relate to dementia and speech therapy. Psychologists often do very in-depth cognitive testing and can be part of identifying/diagnosing dementia along with neurologists. As a speech therapist, we also do cognitive-linguistic testing (not as in depth as psychological testing) to identify strengths and weaknesses in the earlier stages of cognitive impairment. Therapy is more about compensation and management as opposed to rehabilitation or fixing the impairment since it is progressive. Often we work with families/caregivers to understand how cognitive impairment affects communication and related quality of life aspects. There are courses at the bachelors degree level and masters and PhD. All undergraduate courses are geared toward either working as a speech therapy assistant or as prerequisite for master’s programs. While linguistics certainly has some similarities in scope as speech-language pathology, the latter is really about functional communication. Working with all ages from birth to elderly, on speech (articulation/stuttering/phonology), language (content, function, etc.), voice disorders, swallowing/feeding and cognition.

"If you could see what I see" by Geoff Moore and the Distance.
    Sung at my wedding.
    All of my life
    I have dreamed
That somehow love would find me
    Now i can't believe you're standing here
    If beauty is all
    In the eye
    Of the beholder then i
    Wish you could see
The love for you that lives in me
    (Chorus)
And you would know you have my heart
If you could see, what i see
That a treasure's what you are
If you could see, what i see
    Created to be
    The only one for me
If you could see, what i see
    I know there are days
    When you feel
    So much less than ideal
Wondering what i see in you
    It's all of the light
    And the grace
Your belief in me drives me to say
    That i promise you
    A faithful love, forever true
    (Chorus)
    If you could see
    Then you'd understand
Why i fall down to my knees
    And i pray my love
    Will be worthy of
The one who gave his life
    So our love could be
    If you could see
    What i see(x2)
    You're created to be
    The perfect one for me
    If you could see
    What i see
    If beauty is all
    In the eye
    Of the beholder then i
    Am beholding...
    True beauty

Yes. "I Will Be Here" was absolutely huge in its day. I've always loved the fun of "I Wanna Tell the World" that MWS wrote for his wife.
"Attitude of Gratitude" by Teri DeSario was sung at my wedding.
Another song that came to mind was "That Kinda Girl" by DC Talk, which is more about a single guy longing for a wife and what he's looking for.

Love song I wrote for my wife:
    "Right Here"
There is no length of time that could leave behind this moment
And no dark cell where I wouldn’t see your face
    But still I want more
I’ve been running round trying to hear you in this silence
A melody so sure it stops the heart to wait for just once more
But I am not afraid I’ve got you right here next to me
    Not afraid,not afraid, not anymore
I am not afraid, I can almost feel you now
In my arms, breathing hot against me
    And how could this be?
    I wake up
    Arms are holding only sheets
How can I look at this world without the memories, the plans ahead
How can I see your smile without pushing into your lips
I know that you were right here, inspiring me with your bravery
You were right here, and one day here you’ll stay
So I am not afraid, I’ve got you right here next to me
Not afraid, not afraid, not anymore
I am not afraid, I can almost feel you now
In my arms, oh your cheek’s against my cheek
    How can this be?
Another day begins with only me
How can I lose my faith?
    I’m all in
    The days won’t sway me
How can I lose my faith?
Nothing is lost in this pursuit
And in the end what could be worse than losing you?
There’s no length of time that could leave behind this peace I’ve found in you
No storm that could hide the light you’re leaving on
And even buried in this reckless soul
A chord remains that won’t let go
    And I am not afraid
    Not anymore

The Bible says to “confess your faults one to another....” I believe that would be in a more general sense, like in a group session, or perhaps to the pastor and elders, “I struggle with lust,” or “I haven’t been able to overcome a certain addiction,” etc, so that they can PRAY for you to be set free. But “confessing” to specific conflicts to specific individuals (e.g., “I have been lusting after you,”) is just so WRONG! Like Mike Winger said, it sounds like they may be seeking attention from that person in some way.

I got a question. Why is it that some terrible judgmental individuals that accept Jesus Christ and have faith are supposedly going to heaven but some of the most charitable and kind people I’ve known that were atheists are supposedly burning in hell? Especially if it’s God that hardens hearts, pharaoh for example. I’m a believer but this isn’t something I can explain to people who have good hearts. It’s difficult to convince anyone who lost someone they love that weren’t touched by the gospel to believe in a God that allows the existence of a place that eternally torments moral people with evil people just because they didn’t find his messengers to be believable. Especially when the book is filled with aspects that would be considered impossible in the modern world. How old the earth is, giants, miracles, people living super long etc.
I understand that it’s not all as it seems because of translation and how literature works but not every analytical person pursues a degree in theology.

According to Mark 15:43, Joseph of Arimathaea went to request the body of Jesus at evening. Given that Pilate was surprised that Jesus was dead already and they were trying to avoid extending into the Sabbath, and the amount of time it would take to take him to the tomb, this would indicate he was buried after sunset. From this passage, the time line works better if Jesus were crucified on Thursday, buried at the start of Friday, in the grave Friday, Saturday, and rising on Sunday, which gives us three days. Luke says it was the preparation and the Sabbath began to dawn, which could indicate a Friday burial, but it also says that the women followed, returned, prepared spices and ointments, and rested the sabbath day. They seem to be doing a lot of work on the sabbath day, and yet they are resting on the sabbath day. If, however, they did the work on Friday and waited until Sunday to complete it, that would also work with that text. Preparation day seems to put the crucifixion on Friday, but there were two preparations that week, one for the sabbath and one for passover. I think there is a case to be made for a Thursday crucifixion that remains true to the text.

Blasphemous and other sinful thoughts may be fiery darts from Satan, but we have sin natures which might be susceptible to the evil thought on some level. We might be honestly tormented, yet know we have some sinful interest in the evil thought. But if we do, all we need to do to send it on its way is to confess it. Confess means "say with", meaning _say with God:_ _say what God says about it,_ and it probably doesn't require that we say anything out loud, since there's no way that we could actually guess what words God would say! It means mostly just to agree with God about it, that we agree with Him that it is wrong, needs forgiveness and needs to change. But this gives us great leverage against these problems that otherwise become terrible impasses in our lives. 1 John 1: says that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We will sin again, but even if it is the same sin, the fact that we are being cleansed from the sin means that the cleansing cumulatively has an effect on our thoughts and behavior over time. If we are being cleansed by God, as the Bible says, we will be getting some victory over it over time.

Wow! About the three days and three nights, never heard it that way, that it’s an idiom. What does that idiom mean though?
I would like to say that when Jesus referenced Jonah, he was referring to a literal three days and three nights that Jonah was in the belly of the fish, so I think he meant actual three days and three nights.
In the book of John, the priests didn’t go into Pilate’s courters because it was the day of preparation. The day before the actual Passover day was called a high sabbath which was on a Thursday and was regarded as a sabbath as well. The whole week was holy unto God. It seems likely that Jesus had the last supper on Wednesday evening because the Jews’ day starts at sundown. So he had the last supper and the prayer in the garden on Wednesday night which was technically the high sabbath. He was then crucified on Thursday afternoon and buried before sundown. He therefore spent that afternoon, Friday and Saturday full day. Three days. Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night. Three nights.

@@Jeremiah6_16 The Jewish / Biblical sabbath is Saturday (sunset friday to sunset sat). The church meets on Sundays as a celebration of the Lord's Day - his resurrection. The Sabbath principle - a day set apart and not work - got transferred culturally to the Sunday. And for those in jobs that mean sundays at work we can hold the principle at some other time to get the benefit of space apart, Jesus said the sabbath was made for us not us for the sabbath - a principle for our wellbeing.

Thank you again for some great teaching. It was so interesting to hear you answer too ”If we don’t share the Gospel with our friends and family, is their blood on our hands?” (36:34). I was asked this question myself the other day. I agree with your answer. It is not just the Ezekiel 33 which implies that there is blood on your hands when you do not share. Also Acts 20:26. Paul says here because he has shared their blood is not on him. Which would clearly apply that if he had not it would have been. You are so right to point out that the guilt of no sharing is covered by the blood of Christ for believers. So there is no condemnation for those who do not share, there is no condemnation in Christ. However, Scripture is clear there is judgement for rewards in heaven and you will lose out on reward by failing to be the messages of reconciliation Christ has called you to be.

passover is never reckoned as shabbat in jewish custom. the feast of unlevened bread is a high sabbath. not passover. if you want a friday passover the day He was crucified then you have to argue that Jesus as an observant jew violated a shabbat in his travel from jericho to bethany 6 days before passover in john 12 which is more than a sabbath days journey. let go of the traditons of men and take the Word of God as it is.

On the first topic (the headline subject for this video), I was once told by a legalistic couple who used to attend the same church I did that listening to secular songs was sinful.
I couldn't find a single Scripture that said that music was only to be used for worship, or that secular lyrics were inherently sinful. In fact, Song of Solomon, which you mentioned, and the song that went to number one on the Israelite charts after David killed Goliath, are both examples of songs that are secular, yet perfectly holy.
Of course modern popular songs that endorse sinful acts are wrong. Psalm 101:3 and Philippians 4:8 give us some guidance. Gangsta rap or Black Metal would not be acceptable. But a wholesome secular song would be perfectly fine.
What bugs me are some modern "worship" songs that refer to God in the second person and try to pass themselves off as romantic love songs. Jesus is NOT your boyfriend, so quit begging Him to hold you close and let you feel the warmth of His embrace!

I'm an artist and I work in parables and allegories. You wanna write a love song? Have you ever noticed that many love songs are similar to worship songs? Marriage itself was created as an image of Christ and the Church. Draw inspiration from that! You never know, Your love song could kill 2 birds with one stone and be a symbol, ultimately, of our union with Christ and in that regards also be a worship song!
Two bodies coming together is almost the most intimate thing we can experience... How much more intimate is it that God puts His Holy Spirit in us, as we produce fruits from that union?

Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul, and Mary fame) wrote a beautiful Christian love song/wedding song entitled, interestingly enough, "The Wedding Song (There Is Love)" Here are the lyrics:
He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on His part.
The union of your spirits, here, has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name
There is Love, there is Love.
A man shall leave his mother and a woman leave her home
And they shall travel on to where the two shall be as one.
As it was in the beginning is now and til the end
Woman draws her life from man and gives it back again.
And there is Love, there is Love.
Well then what's to be the reason for becoming man and wife?
Is it love that brings you here or love that brings you life?
And if loving is the answer, then who's the giving for?
Do you believe in something that you've never seen before?
Oh there is Love, there is Love.
Oh the marriage of your spirits here has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name
There is Love, there is Love.

@@joyeeverett6196 You are absolutely correct! good point. If there is an issue of infidelity then that is a conversation that definitely needs to happen between husband and wife...IMMEDIATELY. As far as lust goes, if it is in the head only, and isn't a lingering temptation but a passing thought, that is a sin that needs taken to God. If every passing thought of lust had to be openly discussed between spouses I imagine that would cause more issues than what is helpful. Sometimes outside surroundings and even odd situations will cause a sinful thought but it is when we dwell on it or act on it that becomes the issue. We all deal with sin but while it is in the mind, it is useful to pray, journal, read scripture, make lists of roadblocks that would help stop those thoughts. If it becomes a reoccurring issue then each person must assess when it becomes a true problem and temptation that is growing toward active sin.I think if spouses talked more openly about their relationships, conversations like this would flow more openly. I believe what pastor Mike was after was preventing a sinful thought that occurs privately from becoming an opportunity for sin to be fulfilled. This, of course, is my own opinion but I have been through this in my own marriage as a result of my choices before I gave my life to Christ, and have a heart for those dealing with similar situations. We are burdened with many thoughts we don't want as a result of the fall and the wickedness in this world but we have a mediator that was tempted as we are, yet without sin. Trusting in Christ for strength is the answer to all these sin issues.

Although i get those comments on a regular basis as if me writing a song about whatevers on my mind, is an issue. I disagree that any part of Enoch was inspired. You're forgetting that Jude also referenced the testament of Moses, another well known apocryphal book. This was alike the Dead Sea scrolls, ancient Jews read them but didn't take them to heart spiritually.
Also the section (book of watchers, I believe is the name) that the quote from Enoch was taken from was clearly written after the Torah and Enoch's life (not to mention keeping the family tree from Genesis, Enoch and Noah never met which is a huge contradiction for all of Enoch) I know it was written after because the first section makes a lot of references to the old Testament for example Deuteronomy 33:2, Zacheriah 14:5, Isiah 66:15-16. The same goes for a lot of Enoch, there is a son of man prophesy which clearly also copies the TaNaK in the second section and the son of man is actually ENOCH, not Jesus!? Huge reason why it was rejected. The fourth section has dreams, obvious copy of Daniel, the worst part is the dreams amount to nothing and nobody decided to interpret them making them completely useless.
Also in that section of Enoch the earth has pillars, places after the flood are mentioned, stars and different types of weather comes from portals, God doesn't forgive and there is a mountain with 4 holes where spirits wait for judgement (I believe this is where the misconception of purgatory being a waiting room came from, even though I don't believe in that either), honestly I could go on forever with huge differences in theology between Enoch and Christianity, all these are huge indications to me that all of Enoch is false.
Jude just used it as Paul did with Greek poems. If Paul referenced Greek poems, shall I worship Zeus, a rapist? NO.
Plus, everyone during the time of Abraham was pagan. Why would pagans keep the book of Enoch if it was true he wrote it? Wouldn't they not just worship their false gods and burn it? Anyway, that's my opinion, thanks

Or, are you saying the book of Enoch of course isn't written by him because it wouldn't be called a testament if not, but the book claims several times saying "I, Enoch" etc. Meaning that the false book is supposedly written by Enoch which is obviously a lie

Wouldn’t the 24 elders be the 12 apostles and the 12 sons of Israel? Old and New Testament? There seems to a be a precedent for the combination of the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 apostles in Revelation 21:
“It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates THE NAMES OF THE TWELVE TRIBES OF THE SONS OF ISRAEL were inscribed- on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve NAMES OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES of the Lamb.”

This isn't a Christian love song, but you mentioned music used for humour so, next year I will be working on some pro life parodies which you'll be able to see on my Rumble channel (Ravodunna).
I'll have a lady gaga parody of Born this way called Born This Day, on the miracle of birth.
And I'm working on a parody of "Don't call me baby" (Madison Avenue) literally called "Don't call me baby" about the dehumanising of the baby as a clump of cells.
There's also a band that does Christian parodies called Apologetix.
Some examples of music used for humour.

I only disagree with you on a few things and Jesus being put in the tomb on a Friday is one of them.
If you take all the scriptures that lay out how to observe the feast of unleavened bread and when the Passover is to be killed and then take all the scriptures of the events leading up to His crucifixion, study them all together and you can not come away thinking Jesus was crucified on a Friday.
    That is strictly man’s tradition.
This idiom theory is actually one of the weakest arguments I’ve heard.
Go, study all the scriptures in the gospels leading up to His death.

The “Book of Enoch,” IMHO, has been beaten to death like an old, sodden rug. Not trying to be snarky, but I surely wish listeners would watch all of your episodes before posing a repetitive, redundant question. I know it’s up to you, Pastor Mike, and your mods, which questions you accept, but I’m being selfish and want to hear topics that I’ve never learned before. May God work as He will. Someone apparently needed to hear that portion of your content again… and again and again. Lord bless you all. ❤😊

When I first got married I had also just gotten saved. I did not like "being marital" with my husband. I felt so gross & dirty. I wanted to hide from God, tho I knew I couldn't. I finally talked to a friend (I'd consider her a deaconess) from my church about it. She immediately asked me "Did you have sex with him before you married?"
    Ugh! Ouch! Poof! Biff! (Yes).
    She said "
"You repented, and now you need to give up the guilt."

In regard to the four beasts of Revelation 4 that you covered in question 7, it is my understanding that they represent the four gospels.
First: The Gospel of Matthew, the lion, focuses on Jesus' kingship. It starts with His connection to the throne of David.
Second: The Gospel of Mark, the ox, focuses on Jesus' service. It shows almost entirely his works.
Third: The Gospel of Luke, the man, focuses on Jesus' humanity. It begins with his connection to all humanity
Fourth: The Gospel of John, the eagle, focuses on Jesus' godhood. It begins with the beginning and the Beginner.
They are covered in eyes because eyes are always upon them. They are ordered Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, before the first bible was ever printed. They never stop speaking of the Lord God Almighty.

24:24 G'day, Pastor Winger! I really enjoy your videos and the manner in which you discuss, present, and respond to all sorts of topics.
Re: the 4 creatures, here's what I was taught in a women's Bible study at a Baptist church. Each creature represents one of the 4 gospels. The lion symbolises a king, so that's Matthew, focusing on Jesus as the King of the Jews. The ox is a type of service beast and Mark's gospel focuses on Christ as a servant. The man would be Luke's gospel, as Jesus is the Son of Man, a title He uses often in Luke. Lastly is the eagle, given a divine image, symbolising the gospel of John, who emphasises Jesus' divinity.

In Judaism, men become rabbis at the age of 30. Jesus Christ began His ministry at age 30 and He went to the cross at age 33 and a half.
He rose from the dead, Amen.😎👍🏻✝️👑🍯❤️🌈🌻🥰🤗

Hey Mike, recently I've been seeing a UA-cam ad of a Jewish guy promoting 1st Enoch, calling it a Jewish book.
I have previous read it twice, early on.
What do you make of the current Jews calling it theirs now, considering what you said here about them maybe not using it in their canon?
