  • Follow my foolproof steps for this easy grilled salmon recipe for a delicious dish that comes together in minutes and, more importantly, it's intact. These cooking techniques repeatedly prove how well they work.
    Ingredients for this recipe:
    • 2 8-ounce salmon fillets
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
    • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
    • coarse salt and freshly cracked pepper to taste
    Serves 3
    Prep time: 5 minutes
    Cook time: 7 minutes
    Procedures:
    1. Portion the salmon fillets to the size of your liking.
    2. Pat the fish down well on all sides with a paper towel.
    3. Next, drizzle on the oil and rub it in to coat it on all sides.
    4. Season the fish well with coarse salt and freshly cracked pepper on both sides.
    5. Preheat the grill to high heat, which is about 450° to 550°.
    6. Once hot, be sure the grill is clean using a grill brush.
    7. Oil the grill using a kitchen towel that is saturated with oil and rubbed on using a pair of long tongs.
    8. Place the salmon flesh side down and cook for 4 minutes. Do not touch it.
    9. Gently flip the salmon over, using a spatula or tongs, or both and cook it for 2 to 3 minutes or until it reaches about 125° internally.
    10. Remove the salmon from the grill and add on melted butter and lemon juice and let it rest for 2 to 3 minutes.

I went to a Japanese restaurant that served a salmon skin salad that was absolutely delicious. They crisped up the skin and put it over a bed of mixed greens, bean sprouts, grated carrots and other veggies then drizzled with a soy-sesame-miso dressing. The crispy skin was kind of like low carb fish croutons. It was wonderful and oh so healthy.

Another good topper sauce for salmon:
    1/2 c Olive Oil
1/4 c good quality soy sauce
    1 Tbs Dijon
    Pepper
    (Optional) Minced garlic
Whisk all ingredients in a bowl using a fork until you see if come together. Spoon over the top of the salmon.

With the cedar plank make a slurry of brown sugar mixed with either sherry or pineapple juice. Brush it on the salmon then sprinkle steak seasoning on it. Put the lid down and cook till done. Delicious!

I get a salmon rub from Etta’s at Pikes Place Market in Seattle they popularized cedar plank salmon. It’s a mix of brown sugar and Cajun spices and the salmon comes out with a beautiful spicy sweet glaze. I also want the plank to get charred giving the salmon a mild smoky flavor.

This is a great video with perfect ways to grill salmon! I have to say, if you can get it and also afford it, wild caught salmon is the best way to go. It tastes better and is a far more healthy alternative.
    Thanks for the video,

I cooked this just as you said only difference is thank god I have a temp pen because it took about 15 minutes not 5 minutes as you stated but that may be due to me using a pellet grill not a gas grill. Regardless my salmon came out perfect my girlfriend said it was the best she had ever had this is going in the rotation. Thank you!

just made this tonight. Came out great! Tip, to save some time for your next cook, clean the grill grates right after your cook while the grates are still hot. It might just be me but I hate seeing crap from my last cook caked up on the grates.

Is it better to use avocado oil instead of olive oil because of the smoke point. I thought that olive oil would burn easier at high temperature

Nice job Chef. We enjoy fresh Atlantic Salmon at least once a week, cooked over natural lump charcoal on our BGE. You mentioned fresh wild vs. frozen Atlantic, but I did want you to know there is another choice. It is available from a surprising source, America's largest retailer and since it is fresh, a far better alternative to the frozen from Whole Paycheck ;-)
