Thank you for your excellent “how to” video on the worm gear assembly replacement. I’m grateful that I could follow your detailed instructions and repair our old KitchenAid mixer myself. It made a difference for me.

    Thanks for the video.
Like a few commenters, I found the video was way too optimistic about getting the roll pin out to remove the planetary gear.
You say "tricky" but even with the manual-recommended punch size, a big hammer and lots of effor, it's been impossible.
I'm now sitting with spare parts all at the ready and likely about to give up.
This seems like a really weak design from KitchenAid.
Can I suggest that your readers, try get that far, getting the planetary removed, before ordering the parts?

Hello, very nice and informative video. Liked it. I am from India. I got a kitchen aid from my relative 6-7 years back who brought it from USA. Now it has stopped working. May be due to worm gear. I am not sure which worm gear model to order. How to identify if a worm gear will fit my kitcheaid? Thanks in advance.

      @@momshomemade Hi,
      Thanks for the reply.
If your mixer has completely stopped working then this will not be a worm gear issue. It may be that your motor brushes have worn down. I have added a link below for the help video on motor brushes:

Please let us know if the problem still persists after checking your motor brushes

I'm trying to remove the pin but it's impossible. It seems stucked even if I used a drift and lots of WD 40. Any ideas?

Hi Alex, I have removed loads of these and 99% of the time it will "knock out". Sometimes I have to hit it from the other side. WD40 is unlikely to help, if it is stuck, the chances are it has been slightly sheared. If you really cannot shift it, the next option is to drill it out. To minimise damage, center punch the pin and make sure you have a well centered and deep mark on both sides. When you drill the hole, only go deep enough to clear the planetary (about 4mm). Start with a small bit. DO it right and you should be able to pull out enough material to allow you to pull the planetary off. Do this on both sides.when you have the planetary off you should be able to knock out the rest of the pin quite easily. You will obviously need a new pin after this.

Bien cordialement, Doug
Here is our reply in English. We used Google Transalte for the above reply so please account for any anomolies.
Hi, the grease in older models is brown and called Benalene 930-2. It is no longer manufactured and does not comply with current laws regarding transportation. It was not food safe. A few years ago KitchenAid changed to an off-white grease which is food safe. The two types of grease should not be mixed. We hope to make a video soon to show the process to remove all the old grease easily. If you send us an email via customerhelp@kaparts.co.uk we will update you when we have something to send you. With kind regards, Doug

Cordialement, Doug
Hi, Please send a video to customerhelp@kaparts.co.uk so we can understand more about the sound your mixer is making. If your groove pin really wont' move using a hammer an dpunch, you may have to drill out 5mm from each side. Regards, Doug
