I have that exact vehicle, except for the rock rails. I 100% agree with you, the regular Overtrail is the sweet spot. The only reason I got it was because I found it out-of-state at MSRP and I was in the high 200s on my most local dealer's list.
@@nvarmyNot me, I prefer the Overtrail Plus because the reality here is that many people prefer the Plus version instead of the standard Overtrail and in the Philippines, the PH spec version of the GX550 Overtrail is much similar to the Overtrail Plus, hence my decision to buy the fully loaded GX550 Overtrail Plus.
I’ve worked here at Lexus of Tucson in Tucson, AZ for the last 21 years as the General Sales Manager and have enjoyed a wonderful benefit of getting a new demo GX to drive every 4-6 months and the GX has been the most reliable, comfortable and capable vehicle one could ask for. Enter the new 2024 GX550. I’ve never seen such universal excitement over all demographics in my 30 years working with Lexus ever before! Young, old, Male, Female EVERYONE loves the new GX550! I’m seeing Range Rovers on trade, Broncos, Jeeps, Landcruiser and more like never before! The Overtrail and Overtrail Plus have been extremely popular for the majority except for those who must have a 3rd row seat. For the 3rd row seat folks I recommend a Premium or Premium Plus for the best bang for the buck. To your point in this video I too would choose the Overtrail and not the Plus and save $8K-$10K. If money’s no object than get it all! But with 6 different trim levels there is something for EVERYONE.
@@TRDJon you’re very welcome and you did a great job thus far! Next up is getting the Overtrail on the TRAIL. It’s beyond amazing and very capable both off road and on road.
Appreciate your comment as I just purchased a Premium Plus and am very pleased with my choice. This car has performance, looks and reliability backed by the Lexus brand. And you’re right, everyone seems to like this car.
Every time I see a new car like this I think, wow, that would be nice for my wife to drive. Then I remember she just destroys every car she owns and then I get sad. 😢
I’ve thought about getting my wife this or the new Landcruiser. But her driving style would not be good for it. She waits too long to brake, then brakes hard, and I worry she would roll over in it. She gets so many door dings it drives me crazy.
I got my overtrail plus over a month ago, just like the one in your video. It took 7 months to get here, but I’m in love with this car. Yes I paid full price for it, but it’s worth it.
I, too, will/would choose the standard "OverTrail" level. The sales tax in my area is over 8%, too. That extra $8K would be closer to $9K out-the-door.
The only two options on the Overtrail+ that I wanted were memory seats and the kick sensor on the tailgate. But no way I'm paying $8k for those two things. So I'm on a wait list for the Overtrail. With the $8k I saved I can get a Westcott lift kit, a roof rack, and 35" tires. Those are far more useful to me.
The omission of memory seats on a $70k+ luxury vehicle is super annoying. I hope Lexus fixes this in future trim packages. Like you say the value just isn’t there in the plus package. I also find it annoying that they omitted the rear upper vents in all the Overtrail trims. Rear Vents are standard in all versions of the Land Cruiser 250. Memory seats are easily optioned.
I wanted to buy this vehicle for my Mom but when I saw 80k plus dealership add ons I said No Thank You...I got her a RX instead, in the end of the Day Both are Toyota Quality and Lexus Luxury
@@FizzleWick1yep. Sad. I stuck with BMW… which is shockingly beter reliability as of late. Was a huge toyota/lexus fan as an owner, now on my 3rd BMW as all of the new Toyota/Lexus suvs i was considering had recalls, transmission, engine, airbag issues, stop sales… they basically wouldn’t even let me buy a suv from them. Insane how that happened
I tried building the 2024 IS 350 F-Sport on their website, and there are a lot of packages to add. Now, in addition to the ~$54k msrp, you need to spend ~$3-$5k in add-ons to make the car "premium." Soon, we'll need a subscription to the pedals, door lock/unlock, fuel car, etc...shit is getting outta hand.
Excellent points! Lexus needs to make some changes on 2025 model to make the GX550 Overtrail right. And a "Hybrid" power train is NOT the answer we are waiting for!.
Lexus rushed the interior of this GX. I feel like the materials should be top notch at that price. There should be some open-pored wood trims, aluminum, and more leather accents. It would be the perfect SUV if they add just a couple more details.
Having the sunroof, cool box and HUD as options seems to be mythical, at least on the vehicles I’ve tracked in Colorado. I don’t want any of those options but every GX Overtrail seems to be spec’d with all three. Not a deal breaker, but annoying and costly for something I don’t want.
I take it that you're not of the baby boomer generation. Those lamps behind the fog lights are called cornering lamps. If you venture into a junkyard in the future, you will find cornering lamps on every American luxury car and some Japanese luxury cars. Easily found on cars from the 60's, 70's 80's, and even into the 2000's. My 2000 Mercury Grand Marquise has covering lamps.
For 2025, all GX 550 Overtrails get a 1" lift and they added Lexus Memory System for the seat, steering wheel and mirrors. The press release says they added a power tilt/telescope steering column, but it actually already had that in 2024.
I'll take the Overtrail with HUD added and moonroof delete. I wish they would give us the option of 3rd row+rear climate+vents on the overtrails though.
As a GX 460 Luxury owner I find it extremely frustrating that none of the Overtrail models get the smart rearview mirror and tri-zone climate from the Land Cruiser
I have this spec (Overtrail+) and love mine. I use it to carry stuff, so no 3rd row is exactly what I want. Rarely have people in the back seat so separate climate controls for that area doesn't bother me either. 🙂I keep my cars for a long time so the additional features of the plus trim are worth it to me.
The Overtrail+ trim doesn’t have the rear AC side vents above the doors? Those rear side vents are on both the Premium and Luxury trims. That means Lexus purposely removed them out of the Overtrail and Overtrail+ trims.
If the Overtrail came with a 3rd row it would 100% be my next car. Unfortunately I need one so I will have to look elsewhere and I just dont want a premium, I want something that is capable in off road situations when we spend time at our cabin.
Would love to see a hybrid with a bit larger engine than the 2.4l. Maybe just me but thats a bit of a whiny engine for everyday driving and the battery only lasts so long off road.
Surprised about your comment re: EKDSS. I test drove a LC and passed due to jerky engine and extreme body roll. I was hoping the EKDSS in the GX would alleviate the body roll, other videos have said it does. You state the opposite??
Same here. Almost every review I watch says the Overtrail is the trim to get specifically BECAUSE of the EKDSS and how much it improves driving characteristics when it's enabled.
@@TRDJon Ah, that’s makes sense. I did read that the AT tires give it a bit more bounce/float. But I mean… That’s literally most off road vehicles. Thanks for clarifying and thanks for the vid. You’ve pretty much confirmed my purchase of the overtrail, no +. I really can’t believe you can’t option the damn seat memory though.
The only reason I see for stepping up to the OT+ is to be able to option the Mark Levinson sound system, so it better be a damn big jump in quality over the base 10 speaker unit to command over 10k more.
The first Overtrail that came available from my Chandler, AZ dealer was the Plus. I turned it down and ultimately got the model I wanted, a straight Overtrail, white with no sunroof. With the 8K I saved, I've added a Westcott Designs full length roof rack, Westcott Preload Collar Lift, Lexus rock rails, Toyo Open Country AT III 35x12.5x17 tires, and Method bead grip MR 703 wheels. I also wrapped the entire front end & lower doors in clear PPF and wrapped the roof and A-Pillars in black PPF. And after all that, I'm still just under the $8,000 I would have spent on the Plus. This was the easiest decision ever. I agree Jon, the Plus just isn't worth it if you actually plan to take off road.
If these were priced at 40-60k with options they'd be the best bang for your buck SUV on the market. Their worst thing is being priced in a higher bracket against things that have more features or class/prestige for that range.
@@Gnargoyle811 Yup, and the new one is still in that price bracket (43-54). Except you get bigger vehicles and better mpg in the 2025 tacos and 4runners. Having to buy the Plus version to get memory seats is a joke, every single vehicle Lexus makes should come standard with memory seats. The fact that the cheapest LC gets 3 zone HVAC and this $83k unit doesn't is also a joke.
Great overview and explanation of the value of the GX + packages. I'm curious about your thoughts on how the premium package on the middle Land Cruiser trim compares. Seems like it has some "nice to haves" but not sure if it's worth it.
@@TRDJon I test drove a 1958 and really liked the power train. But I definitely wanted the better interior and larger screen from the middle LC trim. The Premium Package adds on more items onto the LC trim like center cool box, a better sound system, moon roof and leather versus softex seats for about $4,500. Are those all things you like about your First Edition?
I have this model on order in Canada - Its a little overpriced, totally agree but it's exactly what I'm looking for to replace my 4R Lunar Rock TRD Pro... its worth it for 5 more gears ... LOL. How was the ride compared to the Luxury + trim??
I have been to 2 dealerships to put in an order for an Overtrail WITHOUT the moonroof/sunroof and have been told they wouldn’t except my order because of that!!
This is all well and good. But If you option out exactly what want you are going to be waiting forever. People are receiving whatever Lexus is making at the moment. Therefore is it worth it is irrelevant. Great video though. 👍
Disagree with the take on the massage seat intensity here. It’s essentially similar to higher end luxury cars regarding the feeling. Also it literally takes three seconds to get to the massage function. If you want to have a separate button for massage on the side or something than you are looking at a much higher price point car in general and this would not be the car for you. Also disagree with mark levinson take. Having gone from a 2022 gx without Ml to this it’s a night and day difference. Also the safety features on this car ( in general for the 2024 gx) blows old gx out the water which is important for my family. I think it’s a total upgrade from old gx in my opinion. I initially thought that the luxury feel was a step down but after driving it now it’s a subdued luxury, even without the random wood trims ( which weren’t that much to begin with).
I have to disagree. I got a deal on my previous MDX, and in my 4 years of owning, it regretted not getting the higher trim even if they were little things. When i purchased my GX 550 overtrail, i made sure to get the fully loaded plus model. If you are gonna spend 70k plus, you might as well spend the extra 8 to 10k. It's a little more a month and worth it.
You gotta buy the + to even have the option for that Mark Levinson stereo which kills me. Why can’t they offer that stereo as an option on every trim level? I’d buy the cheapest trim and add that stereo and 18” wheels and be happy forever.
My husband and I test drove one of these 2 weeks ago. we love the look of them. We did not like the noise from the luggage rack on top of the vehicle and the hood shook so bad while driving we thought it was unlatched (we checked it wasn’t) did you notice this?
Doubt. GX has a strong following and aftermarket support. maybe it doesn't fit your lifestyle needs and thats ok. But these are gonna fly off the shelves.
Doubt. I gave up and bought another truck entirely because the wait is just too long compared to when my baby is popping. The wait list is literally a year out in Houston metro area for MSRP, probably longer for people like me who only wanted 1 color combo in OT. Granted, the guy who took my order did mention a lot of people called back and cancelled orders, I feel most of that was related to the "overlanding dreamers" and stock market dip reality hit. The list was still past this year model. You probably won't see discounts on these till 27. E:grammar
The problem is the Lexus purchase model. You can't get the config you want. Its all based on inventory. There is not an overtrail anywhere near me and the ones that are are all the wrong color combos and options. Everuthing around me are OT+ models! So its a moot point! They dont actually give you the option to get it the way you want it
In Canada an overtrail+ with taxes is 110k and a Land cruiser first edition is 105k with taxes. I would easily pay 5k to upgrade from a 4 cylinder to a 6, not to mention the sound system, better dealership experience etc. I think both of them are a bad buys tbh new toyotas are so expensive I'd prolly just save 50k and buy a 21 gx460 lol but they are still cool and I envy people who own either.
Our families ford windstar twenty some years ago had middle row captains chairs with proper arm rests and a rear seat climate control. This vehicle for this price has been such a let down good lord. The interior is devoid of any character, there is no proper executive rear seat package, everything has to go through the touch screen to activate. The center console is poorly laid out and the fake wood paneling is hideous. The 12 volt outlet in the center console has a stupid cover on it and you can't even get real leather at 105k here in Canada. The exterior styling is all it has going for it. : S
I was going to say that if I had this much money, I would look at an Audi RS 6 Avant, but apparently even an Overtrail + is still like 20% cheaper! I love the two-tone setup sand or nori, so I'd get the cheapest model that offers that paint combo :)
Bad advice…There is a specific reason why they don’t have all those features like rear A/C. That is because of Payload. The payload for a Overtrail Plus is damn near 1600 lbs. The luxury doesn’t even get to 1000 lbs. It’s between 660 and 800 lbs so your not towing or carrying anything with those playload numbers. You can barely carry people legally with those numbers.
Give me the luxury plus with no third row and the overtrail wheels/tires and ill be happy. Or offer the full frosted sunroof from the luxury as an option on the overtrail and Id probably get the overtrail normal version.
I’d like to see the storage comparison between the 5th gen and the other two. I’d like the LC250 with the V6 and a flat cargo floor. Prefer the look of the LC. Finally, that back seat has got to go. The 5th gen has a better folding back seat. All this adds up to me keeping the 5th gen.
@@TRDJonI looked it up... still the same engine.. just one made in japan... hopefully lexus is better vs toyota replacing the whole engine on the tundras.
Jon, I strongly disagree with the whole majority of the comment section because first, I prefer the Overtrail Plus over the standard Overtrail because I love the fully loaded top of the line versions of any vehicle, second is that I want a fully loaded GX Overtrail Plus with accessories and third, to each their own because I will buy a fully loaded 2025 Lexus GX550 Overtrail Plus with ARB Accessories anyway. And I am happy that... I have no idea what I said; but I have the most fun that I have ever been.
Those trading in a Range Rover are probably getting less reliability (crazy times) and laughably less luxury. Oh, and worse off road and on road performance.
They cut so many corners on this one it’s sad. I hate how they put the green alcantara on the front seats and just forgot it on the back. Aside from the improvements in tech and an updated powertrain, this thing is a downgrade from my 2011 GX460 where someone could actually sit comfortably in the middle seat in the back without having to cut their feet in half.
Idk for $15k more I’m taking the Lexus GX550 esp bc it comes with the twin turbo V6 over the iforce i4 hybrid bc I do NOT like the idea of offroading the i4 with a hybrid system that isn’t supposed to be getting submerged under water which is what will happen if you do river crossing an whatever else you have to drive through on trails since they keep the system under the car (Batteries) too much future corrosion for my liking that I only see 10s of thousands of dollars of future repairs… Not like it matters to me anyway tho I’m getting a 4 Runner before the new gen comes out in December sales event when they’re offloading the previous gens
But love the videos you do and how you give your opinions unbiased and honest bc not a lot of UA-camrs do that on press vehicles esp since you are a Toyota enthusiast aswell… Love to see if you can review some more Lexus models in the future
Tundra engine is different & doesn't have the issues you indicated. Please do just a tad more research (& editing) before posting. I literally subscribed at the beginning of the video & unsubscribed past the halfway mark. Hopefully this feedback is helpful.
The tundra engine is the one with issues. The GX does not have the issues like I said. Same core engine where the main bearings are failing. So not sure what more research I need to do.

I have been to 2 dealerships to put in an order for an Overtrail WITHOUT the moonroof/sunroof and have been told they wouldn’t except my order because of that!!
So in the 3rd row variants of the GX are there no vents in the 3rd row? Unlike the 2 row (in the US) only LC which has vents back there?
The over trail is the only one I think that doesn’t have them in the roof
This is all well and good. But If you option out exactly what want you are going to be waiting forever. People are receiving whatever Lexus is making at the moment. Therefore is it worth it is irrelevant. Great video though. 👍
Well yes. In a perfect world
Disagree with the take on the massage seat intensity here.
Thanks for the review. I'm just getting the Base with leather seats. 😅
Good choice!
You gotta buy the + to even have the option for that Mark Levinson stereo which kills me. Why can’t they offer that stereo as an option on every trim level? I’d buy the cheapest trim and add that stereo and 18” wheels and be happy forever.
You answered your own question
Bronco ftw 😊
I got the Overtrain and it is badass. I love it
My husband and I test drove one of these 2 weeks ago. we love the look of them. We did not like the noise from the luggage rack on top of the vehicle and the hood shook so bad while driving we thought it was unlatched (we checked it wasn’t) did you notice this?
Да, так и есть
Too much freaking money vs previous generations 460/470. And… where’s the wood accents?
Dealers will be swimming in these soon with large discounts
Good one! A prophet you are not. It is a 7-12 month wait in the Pacific Northwest.
😳😳😳😳
Doubt. GX has a strong following and aftermarket support. maybe it doesn't fit your lifestyle needs and thats ok. But these are gonna fly off the shelves.
Nah.
Toyota has deliberately made production low to reel in the suckers.
Overpaying baaaaaaa sheep.
97% of the population are 🐏
E:grammar
Lolll @ peasant blockers. Best part of the video
Thanks for the transparency on the trim levels.
The problem is the Lexus purchase model. You can't get the config you want. Its all based on inventory. There is not an overtrail anywhere near me and the ones that are are all the wrong color combos and options. Everuthing around me are OT+ models! So its a moot point! They dont actually give you the option to get it the way you want it
I laughed when I saw the price, seems more basic than it should for $77,000 LOL
Non plus overtrail at NTX dealer w 850 mi - asking >$90k. And no seat memory (?)
They are 11K over MSRP soooooooo no
@@TRDJon actually asking $95.9!
I can’t get a vehicle with out a sunroof. Pay the extra money for it
Our families ford windstar twenty some years ago had middle row captains chairs with proper arm rests and a rear seat climate control.
Have you an opinion on the cat back exhaust option?
This just had a normal exhaust
I think the overtrail is a little homely
Any idea when the iForce Max powertrain for the GX550 reveal will be?
Not sure yet.
The other thing you did didn’t mention the dealer tax on all these extras and if you wanna wait six months, this is what you get
I wish the Land Cruiser came with the 3.4 and 10 speed. I’d buy one tomorrow
Facts bro
Bad advice…There is a specific reason why they don’t have all those features like rear A/C. That is because of Payload.
The payload for a Overtrail Plus is damn near 1600 lbs.
The luxury doesn’t even get to 1000 lbs. It’s between 660 and 800 lbs
so your not towing or carrying anything with those playload numbers. You can barely carry people legally with those numbers.
Rear seats, electronic steps are close to 600lbs along with 22” wheels. Plastic rear ac vents definitely don’t eat into that.
If no ac in back no need it it’s hot in Middle East
For sure!
Give me the luxury plus with no third row and the overtrail wheels/tires and ill be happy. Or offer the full frosted sunroof from the luxury as an option on the overtrail and Id probably get the overtrail normal version.
A kia telluride has better standard options
Also depreciates way faster too
I’d like to see the storage comparison between the 5th gen and the other two. I’d like the LC250 with the V6 and a flat cargo floor. Prefer the look of the LC. Finally, that back seat has got to go. The 5th gen has a better folding back seat. All this adds up to me keeping the 5th gen.
is this the same engine like the tundra that's on recall? v6 twin turbo?
No recall on these
@@TRDJonI looked it up... still the same engine.. just one made in japan... hopefully lexus is better vs toyota replacing the whole engine on the tundras.
Some differences in them for the lower power and tune for premium fuel. So they aren’t the exact same
GX550 overtrail no opts but moon roof delete but no dealers will order one
Yea unfortunately in the beginning dealers are loading them up.
Ordered & received. My Overtrail w/ sun roof delete
My local dealer said to try back in a year. I just want the basic overtrail with just the sunroof delete. No port or dealer add-ons.
@@cablebandit same here let them work out any issues as I want a off road car camper -overland tour rig ..not a 3 row luxury family school bus
Digital screen based hvac, that's a nope.
Needs the third row and real leather seats! It lost the luxury from the GX460. Seems like a Tundra inside.
I’m curious to know how much less one would get compared to the 2021 Lexus 570
Jon, I strongly disagree with the whole majority of the comment section because first, I prefer the Overtrail Plus over the standard Overtrail because I love the fully loaded top of the line versions of any vehicle, second is that I want a fully loaded GX Overtrail Plus with accessories and third, to each their own because I will buy a fully loaded 2025 Lexus GX550 Overtrail Plus with ARB Accessories anyway. And I am happy that... I have no idea what I said; but I have the most fun that I have ever been.
Nothing wrong with that man. Enjoy it!
Bruh a 2019 toyota avalon limited came standard with a HUD....
Wild right?
I have a overtrail plus caviar with chateau interior love it.
overtrail is most off road lexus ever made
Those trading in a Range Rover are probably getting less reliability (crazy times) and laughably less luxury. Oh, and worse off road and on road performance.
Can you use the lexus voice control to do massage function?
Possibly yes.
They cut so many corners on this one it’s sad. I hate how they put the green alcantara on the front seats and just forgot it on the back. Aside from the improvements in tech and an updated powertrain, this thing is a downgrade from my 2011 GX460 where someone could actually sit comfortably in the middle seat in the back without having to cut their feet in half.
should I keep my trx then..
This vehicle is more for CAPABILITY, than pure luxury. Get over it.
Will do!!!!
So not sure what more research I need to do.
so a ford bronco, jeep compass from the recent past..
Seriously, $80,000 grand? Maybe not, thanks just the same. :)
Yeaaaa not here lol
I think the Land Cruiser is the best option for the money
Love the GX. Not sure I would trade my defender for it yet. If I have drama with the LR… I’d wanna drive this first.
How is the phone charger? I’d like to get a regular Overtrail in a year or two and have heard the charger isn’t worth the extra cash.
Wireless charger just maintains
At 80k territory you can get a nice LR Defender with better ride and interior. at 60-70k this would be reasonable for what you get.
Except it’s a Land Rover Defender that will break down in 4 years
What trim do you think it’s the best for this vehicle
Probably a Luxury or Premium Plus
