I have seen a lot of reviews of these pencils, some positive, some mixed, but you and only one other review has been negative, and funnily enough, the other person who did a negative review hadn't even tried them either! I will take advice from people who have actually tried them. You can't give a good, honest review without even trying them! The smaller sets with round, coloured barrels have different cores than the 520.
She must have bought the 520 pencils. I bought the 180 and did NOT pay that much money. I cannot remember but it might have been near $100 but with no shipping. I have many of your professional, oil based pencils and I do not like them. That includes F.C. Poly pencils. They feel scratchy and I used them once. I usually use Prismacolor Premier. I love them but I wish they would create more. I am not too crazy of their greens.
polychromos are so much harder. I bought them first, and then got a set of brutfuner macaron and I regret buying polychromos, I could save myself so much hand pain
Hi, I don’t know where you are, eBay marketplace offers many sets from sellers who barely used or brand new for approx €150. If you can wait, the sellers will even reduce the amount of money they want. I have purchased numerous amounts of Polychromos there. One just has to be very careful. There are thieves on those sites too. Sometimes a set might come up for a ridiculous amount like €100. If you think it’s too good to be true, it probably is. I also don’t pay bank transfer….bye bye money…..nor do I use PayPal friend. It’s always business or eBay direct pay.
That's a pretty good price, right now, where I am they cost used 120 euros. The price will probably go even more down, so if someone really wants them they should wait a little bit more... If you like them that is great :) and I am happy for you :), I don't want anyone to understand me wrong but I was not so impressed with brutfuner and for the price that they were available in the beginning I personally would have choosen polychromos over them, and yes it is different from country to country because where I am I could buy polychromos 120 set for 150 euro..... Anyway thank you for the comment :D and just keep colouring ^^
Yeah.... totally good honest review. I purchased a set of 180 marketed under the name Southsun (brutfuner stamped on pencil with a color number). They are round solid color with open end. Just like you said, typical budget pencil. They only cost $25 on Amazon lightening deal. I have no desire to own more. They are for practice and relaxing with coloring books. I save the big buck to buy Polys, Luminance, Derwent LF to use on commissions or art I will sell.
Not exactly budget friendly when you run out of your favorite colors and cannot replace the single pencils without purchasing a new set. I use both prismas and polys in my artwork, as well as a few koh-i-noor. All easily replaced singles. The beginning price output was expensive, but now maintaining single pencils is easy. And 520 colors??? Holy cow. The mere thought is overwhelming.
The only positive with Prismas (for me) is the lightfastness. Since I'm a hobby artist who doesn't sell their work, it's def not worth it for me to spend so much money on colored pencils. Especially Prismas, which have a very high tendency for breakage. For that money you'd expect better quality... But I agree. I have the Brutfuner 160 set, and those are more than enough for me. 520 pencils is more of a collector's item rather than something to actually use. With such a huge color range, there are probs lots of colors which look very similar or even are duplicates.
I really appreciate this video. I realized that by buying this enormous quantity of colors I am prioritizing my consumist attitude, instead of prioritizing the pleasure of enjoying coloring. This video puts my feet on the ground.
Seriously, I love them. I did not pay 180 I paid 99.00 free shipping from Amazon. I'm not sure any pencils budget wise are Light fast. No serious reason given here
The prismacolor premier aren't lightfast either, and they cost more than the hard polychromos I don't like too much, at least here in France. I'm looking for a substitute to my beloved prismacolor I bought several years ago when their price was affordable, and I'm very interested in the Brutfuner 120 (those with the round and colored barrel)...
I have no problem buying them. I don't expect them to by artist quality. But then people buy very pricey pencils just to use in colouring books...I don't get that.
The 520 set costs ~120€ where I live (Germany). Same as the 520 by Kalour and Shuttle Art (since they basically are the same pencils, that kinda makes sense, lol). Not sure how much more expensive they were 2 years ago. But they are quite affordable now. Still, I can't imagine anyone needs so many pencils. Unless they are some kind of colored pencils collector, lol.
I bought the 180 set of pencils and I love them. They are fantastic and easy to use and layer and blends well.. There was no scratchy feeling as I was coloring. I generally do not like oil based pencils, but I love these. I did not have any breakage when sharpening (I use the Dahl 133 sharpener) nor coloring, as I do not have a heavy hand, preferring to build layers. No. They are not Lightfast but I do not care. I like having 180 pencils versus 72, 100, or even 150. They did not cost me anywhere near what you stated, but I did not buy the 500 and some pencils.. I have bought many brands of pencils and all were well known, professional oil based pencils. No...these pencils are not that expensive, and when I have to replace a pencil, I will wait until I need a few and order the entire 180 set again. I love variety.
My main gripe about these pencils is that any of these pencils are not sold separately - you need to buy ANOTHER set of 520 if you run out of ONE color. Even the pricey Prismacolor / Polychromos pencils can be bought separately - so money is saved in the long run. Also, I could NOT find the 260/520 color set on the Brutfuner site - the ones that I saw on Amazon come from a store based in either China or Japan - so the legitimacy of this set is in question.
Thank you for the information you provided on the Brutfuner pencils. I've been watching a few videos on these pencils, and I likely will not buy any of them, especially not the 520 set! I don't do a great deal of coloring. I use different kinds of coloring media in not so ordinary ways, definitely not the same ways most people use them. However, I do watch reviews of different types of pencils, markers, pastels, etc. Thank you for sharing your input!
If you could get 520 brutfuner pencils for 70 dollars would it be worth it or are they just not a good pencil and could buy better pencils for your money? Are kalour about the same as brutfuner? Thank you for this video. I should probably just get a better pencil set. I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you I do a 72 Amazon premium pencils and I like them a lot!!
"Are kalour about the same as brutfuner?" : same question ! How are the Amazon pencils ? I'd like to find a replacement for the Prismacolor premier (too expensive in my country)...
THANK YOU! Very rarely do you see videos like this. I realise that I don't need these and could spend 180 on something better. 520 pencils is overkill anyway.

I have purchased most of my pencils, mostly brand new, on eBay marketplace. I’m paying some ridiculous amount of money less than Amazon for example. Yesterday I purchased 520 Kalour brand new for $65! And the seller asked less for shipping. I do want the Brutfuner 520 too, just because…. But since I got the Kalour, I’ll wait until someone is selling theirs. 520 pencils is a daunting amount so there’s not going to be a great chase after them.

Hi, I always use a cheap sharpener with a manual crank with them, and I never had any breakage of the lead. THis said, one can't call them "artist grade" because of their lack of lightfastness...and it's a pity because they are my favorite pencils. Nevertheless, they are more expensive than the Polychromos in France (Prisma are around 2,8 to 3 euros/pencil, and Polychromos between 1.80 and 2 euros...), far too much expensive for colored pencils with so poor lightfastness, by the fact 😔
The price dropped a lot since I published the video, that is true :), I even saw them on black friday for 90 euro, so that point of my video is not valid anymore ;)

Some people buy polychromos and spend upwards of $160, for only 120 pencils , then use them for coloring. If someone is using them in sketch books etc, they might as well use these budget brands. Artist quality pencils should be used for artist quality work. It doesn’t make sense to pay so much for a coloring hobby that never sees the light of day outside the book on a shelf.

I got the 120 pcs brutfuner for only $7 😁
Wooooowww haha amazing price :D happy for you ^^
Wow, where did you get them?
Right now they are marked at $129.00 USD on Amazon.
The price dropped a lot since I published the video, that is true :), I even saw them on black friday for 90 euro, so that point of my video is not valid anymore ;)
@@color-dive , But who knows Amazon prices fluctuate quite a bit at times, I think you have to catch it at the right time. Your video was very informative, I decided to save my money. 👍🏻😊
😂😂😂 Sorry but this is not price if U buing 520 pencils for less than 100 $
Yet you bought them 😂
Yall are poor and missing out.
