Thank you so much for this information! I had no idea how dangerous it was. Ordered everything and will be fixing right away. You're a lifesaver - literally!
Excellent advice. I found the Y pipe and the main flue pipe that were on a pretty much horizontal run on its way to the vertical chimney pipe to be rusted out in my daughter's 14 year old home!! SO it doesn't necessarily just happen to older homes.
i had an inspector tell me the tape I put on my furnace pipe was against code - it was the same tape as in this video - the pipe was the kind with an insert - i thought it was a good idea to tape the seams but now I know better - always have to be mindful of local codes
That's ridiculous it just need to cleaned out! That's from years of running it! Of course you're going to get condensation you just need to keep an eye on things!
This is one of those overlooked home maintenance items that could become a serious concern. Thats why a carbon monoxide detector is beneficial for any home with gas appliances.
My first home had a furnace and when we relocated it we had to have the pipe within a pipe type of venting. When my patent buikt a new house, everything was geo thermal.
ITEMS I USED ON THIS VIDEO:
- High Heat Tape 2” Wide (266 Degrees) - amzn.to/43xYpWG
- High Heat Tape 2.36” Wide (600 Degrees) - amzn.to/43wPAfN
- RUTLAND 500-Degree RTV High Heat Silicone Seal - amzn.to/3X0O8Qg
- 3M Fireblock Sealant - amzn.to/3WUT3m1
- Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Battery) - amzn.to/3qBTBBj
- Carbon Monoxide / Smoke Alarm (Hardwired & Battery) - amzn.to/42yLAdA
What about if there is leakage behind the wall where the pipe goes outside?

Thank you for the info sir! Yes please be mindful of local codes, each are very different 👍🏽🙏🏽😊
Newer requirements push for plug-in or hard wired CO detectors with battery backup. Batteries still need to be checked regularly.
Nice! I’ll check mine now!

Yes, CO can leak into your home. But also, the natural draw of the chimney will draw the gasses outside. But yes, check for leaks.
Thanks for sharing.

This doesn’t apply to electronic appliances, right?
this applies to Gas furnace and water heater.. everything here is electric
Why don’t they make these out of stainless steel so they don’t rust?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
