    🔷 ABOUT US 🔷
    We’re a small family who moved out of the city in 2015 and set off on a new journey to build a homestead from bare land on one acre out in the country of the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina. We handcraft many items and goods that are for sale on our website. Your support is greatly appreciated by all of us! Our UA-cam channel is family friendly! We are slowly renovating our 1988 Palm Harbor single wide mobile home paycheck to paycheck as we can to remodel it ourselves and make it better than new.

    Great job........onward march. Good to get it all done and especially to have your brother pitch in. Many hands make light work.
    You will have it done within the the next week or so I am sure. I wouldn't love doing it either so while I was at it I would want it DONE and never look at it again............LOL I do not like heights! PERIOD I guess you could call me a flat land type of person. LOL
    It is going to be beautiful and DONE and never to worry about it again. That is a wonderful feeling for sure.
    Keep at it and before you know it its going to be done!
    Forge on and no worries about fall and winter

    • @GreenAcreHomestead
      @GreenAcreHomestead  3 роки тому +1

      Getting it done in a week would be wonderful, but not on our timeline... we're slower than other DIY/Reno UA-camrs I think :) My work and homeschooling, etc. take some time away from us but we also have to wait for the money to come for the next steps. Luckily that usually isn't a big issue because of the slower pace. LOL For example, the past two days have been spent removing the old gutters from the home. 8 hours of working and only 1/3rd of the home gutters have been removed. LOL S-L-O-W going!!! :) Anywho, we both really appreciate your watching us and comments!

    Just started watching your videos recently and we love them, you guys have done so much work on that house and did a great job on the renovation too. I had a Mobile home when I was living in Connecticut I had that home for about 5.5 years and I did alot of work on mine as well. so I know how difficult some things are when it comes to a complete renovation and it is hard work. but was very rewarding in the end looking back on it now lol. best regards from your new friends in Lima Peru

    Glad your brother is helping you..........many hands make light work........always fun to work with someone as compared to alone. You two will get it kicked out in no time........the sooner the better with winter coming and you won't have to do any more for years........it will be done. Great job. I went on the roof of my Dad's neighbor's house, when my Dad & brother re-roofed it. I was in High school & I had to ask by brother to help me back onto the ladder. Many years ago, I went on top of My house to watch fireworks when my kids were little & I once again needed help getting back down onto the ladder. I have never & will never go on a roof again. I won't even go on a ladder anymore. I know you & Angela will be o happy when this job is done.

      I'm happy he's here to help too! He still has his finger in the splint and stitched up, etc. We're planning another two-day work session this weekend (Sunday & Monday) to hopefully replicate the same work to the rest of the home (plywood + underlayment). In the meantime I'm working to frame up the eaves for the part we've done already.

    I have a similar project planned, but after watching the difficulty you had squaring up the first sheets so the rest played well, I’m starting to wonder about my plan. I want to add a 2 x 4 on top of each truss for a 2 foot overhang but I have plywood deckong now and I’m not sure how I’m going to locate the trusses and get them square. I think I’m going to have to run a very tight and accurate string line at the peak so I can measure down when the wind is not blowing lol

    Those plywood sheets could buckle without a expansion gap.

    I just wish my mobile home had a roof like your mobile home. Mine is a 14 x 70, but it has a rounded roof that is domed in the middle. It has no center peak. I was thinking about doing a roof over, but, was told that with the age of my place that I would have to put poles in the ground and build the roof onto the poles. I was thinking about running rows of 2x4s along the edges and a row down the length in the center and basically making a peak so that I could lay the plywood on the roof. I was thinking about putting a metal roof on top of the plywood instead of using roof tiles too. The metal roofing will last longer too without the worry of the high winds we get here lifting any of the tiles up.

      There are several mobile homes in our area that are older than ours with the same roof where they have framed up elaborate structures on top--much more than what we're doing! I thought it may be an interesting video to show the various ones around here for inspiration, humor, or otherwise. I don't know how prevalent roof overs are for other areas, but they're popular out here! I don't know about structure strengths or if they did anything to support the new roofs internally. I'll have to do that at some point soon. It would be interesting maybe.

    What did you do for venting the roof.? I would have added 2x4's on the flat then laid the plywood and used a fascia vent or sofit vent combined with a ridge vent. With your current configuration, the sun will heat all the roof and without proper venting, the inside will be hot in the summer and colder in the winter. I am trying to vent my roof now, that's why I watched your video, Cheers.

    Are you not using the metal clips between the sheets of plywood?

    How often do you have to change that gas cylinder? I'm sure it is too late already but White steel is the way to go to keep your mobile home cool. I have put it on my home and 3 other buildings and I cannot tell you how much it cooled my home vs. the old black shingles I had. On my barn, you can actually touch the underside of the white roof without burning your hand...its just that reflective.

      They say the gas cylinder will last for 1,000 nails. We went through about 3/4 a box so far. I bought two boxes (1,000 each) and hope it’s enough. We’re getting the same roof we used for our other structures we’ve built here so they match. The color is brown-ish but it is a cool touch coated panel. It’s got a reflective coating to where you can put your hand on the bottom of it in summer too.

    Hi Sam, thanks for putting these together. Fun to watch. Had a question as I am looking to roof a small project. Didn’t you need to put spacers between the plywood? If not how do you keep from buckling? Thanks

    • @GreenAcreHomestead
      @GreenAcreHomestead  3 роки тому +1

      The clips didn't work for us so we just spaced the plywood apart to allow for expansion. You're right though. :)

      So far the materials (plywood, lumber, underlayment, hardware) have cost right at $1,300. I still have to buy the metal roofing. I'm waiting until the roof is decked out so I can order the metal roof panels cut to the right lengths for our roof to make installation easier.
