So proud of you figuring it out, working it out, gutting it out. Enormous and important projects like this, especially when it’s a one-off that you’ve never done alone before can be incredibly overwhelming. Having someone to support you (besides Angela, who supports in other aspects) in the problem solving, the motivation, the hard work and the simple BELIEF that you can complete the project successfully is of immeasurable value. It’s good to have someone in your life who truly ‘has your back’.
For anyone who isn’t subscribed to Josh’s channel “Steep In The Woods” - what are you waiting for? He’s as hard working and funny as Sam, and while they are alike, they are also different. Sam and Angela are more farm and home improvers, craftspeople and homesteaders. Josh has a slightly different Mountain Man/Pioneer approach, because he has chosen to build his homestead on completely unimproved land - there wasn’t even a road when he started. Anyway, give it a watch - very interesting and fun.
That is going to be a great roof, thanks for the demonstration, I think it helps bring allot of hope to folks that feel trapped in an old trailer home that needs work, and a the prospect of buying a new home. We all need brothers like josh btw, that’s how we Americans used to be, always looking out for our brethren, brothers or not, we’re all in this together and all heading towards the same exit one day
It's so great the two of you got to work together on this roof. We can all imagine ourselves trying a big project solo, and feeling it must be somehow doable, but then it's overwhelming and we don't know how to make it happen. When a friend or family member comes by and hooks you up, that's a marvelous thing.
Absolutely!!! He didn't know it at the time, but he was a God send and saved the project! It just isn't a one-man job.
Could made a dead man for the ply wood to hold it im a professional roofer out in ny and i own a double wide 1994 Fleetwood did the roof my self re plywood it and put shingls your tought to work by ur self

What a good brother Josh is. I grew up in a large, close living family and it was always a potluck party when any home projects were in the works. So nice to see this still happening today. Can't wait to see it all finished and you sitting back in a lawn chair soaking it all in.

I had a singlewide 16x72 and had a metal roof put on. The man did a wonderful job. It looked beautiful and had no issues. It sold it primarily because of the metal roof!
Will be praying for your safety as you work on the roof. Was praying as I watched this one be safe and take your time. It is looking good.

I really enjoyed watching your video. I have a new respect for old metal roofs after watching you walk across it. What state are you from the view is absolutely remarkable.
Brings back memories of installing a new metal roof in singlewide that had the curved style roof. Had to create rafters and purlins to attach the metal panels. Like you, I wanted overhang to attach gutters where there hadnt been any on the original. It came out awesome. Im interested in your project as I have a new park model that has shingles. Crummy workmanship throughout, and font trust the roof work. Want to replace with metal.

I'm preparing to work on my own mobile home roof and your videos are making me more confident that I can do this. Thank you so much for making this series. I thought I had to remove the roof completely and had no idea I could basically put another roof on top of my existing one. So much stress is gone from knowing that. I'm honestly excited to get started.

Ah! U have the electric nail gun! I just discovered these and holy wow...I love them! No hoses! Or breaking down air compressors! Having extra batteries is a plus but makes the job so much quicker

I would have had to change my pants more than once with the way that roof was giving way. lol It might not look perfect now but that is what the finish work is for. Hope it goes even easier for the rest!

No tear off is nice, but loooordy!!!! walking on the roof had me biting my nails, like a Hollywood cliff hanger..... lol
Trailers can be scary to walk on, as there's not much support, most are just 2x2 stringers. But the roof metal is a huge one piece sheet and is surprisingly strong. I used to weigh 330lbs, am now 250, and it had no problem supporting me when I was a mobile home park maintenance man back in 2008

It does make a big difference when you have help. I am doing my project all by myself. I am taking care of my 93 year old mother-in-law after my wife died 3 years ago. Living in California we also deal with the heat.

I’ve got that roof! Got the aluminum tape, sounds like my roof when I walk on it. I’ve had a leak at my addon back porch! I’m enclosing it! Poured roof paint on it this morning about half an inch thick ! Hope it sets up and seals the roof before it rains!

Mobile home roofs are a lot more sturdy than people realize. But alone thankfully your brother Loves you. Tie offs too
I was so nervous for you the whole time you were on that roof. AHHH!!!
One of the best things about putting a roof over the existing roof is you can add insulation under the finished roof to cut down on how much heat comes in during the summer and heat escapes in the winter. A few inches of foam board insulation can do a lot.
I would have used 2x4's over the old roof and added the metal.but I am no roofer either!

When sheathing, you should nail 16D nails near the top of the fascia board, and then bend them up, so they're flush at the bottom of your roof, and it'll help you a TON while running that bottom row.. it'll hold the boards in place for ya.. comes in handy when you're sheathing by yourself 👌👌

Your suppose to screw 2x4,s on the 2x2rafters first for support &then your plywood plus sheeting .
That is one scary roof. I am glad my mobile has a good sturdy wood roof. I had to re roof it and if it had been like yours I doubt I would have done it. I did end up with a roof that waves at everyone. Just small waves!
You're off to a good start. Just keep at and try not to stress. Rain isn't so bad, lots of homes get rained on during construction :) I noticed you skipped your roof clips, but you probably had enough to worry about up there. It will probably be just fine under the metal roof. We watched this the other day but didn't comment. So we thought we'd stop back in and give our support. We look forward to the rest.
Thanks guys! Yeah... the metal clips did not work out as we hoped. The majority of my frustrations pre-Josh arriving was in fighting them and getting them to work. It's on my list of things to show-n-tell in a video along this path. The issue I had was the roof still had flex with the plywood on it and the clips would bend up which would tear through the underlayment. I was bummed they weren't working, but didn't know what else to do but space the plywood as recommended, then just go with it. :-\ I'm not too worried with the metal roof, but would have still preferred to get to use them. Thanks for the comment! :)
@@GreenAcreHomestead That's how it goes sometimes. You just have to do what you can. We actually had trouble with our clips too, not fitting right and being bent, but since we used osb, we just pushed the clips right into the wood wherever they wanted to be. They pushed right into the edge of the osb board when we slid the osb into place.
I hope the rest of your project is going a bit more smoothly.

build you a lumber borrow./short scaffled jacks made out 2x4.make it so sheating sets 3 feet proud of roof edge...stage there then pull up from roof
Watching you, Sam, walking on the very flimsy roof made me so nervous. I got to the point where I just couldn't watch. Should you be wearing a safety harness? OMGosh, please, please continue to be extra careful. We don't want to lose you or have you suffer an injury.
I looked into harnesses but had no idea where to practically mount one. We were both all over the roof up and down multiple times in the day that I think I would have unclipped it from annoyance or it given me a false sense of safety. I did think about it though! I’m not looking to test our gravity at all! 😬😁
When I did the roof on my trailer I used a rope and pulled up the sheets one at a time.
Your home is going to look so good, besides keeping you out of the rain.
My husband did not fully cover our 1990 Oakwood singlewide with plywood, he put 3 rows of furing strips on each side & then put metal on. We didn't think the extra weight of the plywood wold be a good idea. Just the way we chose, so far, so good 12 1/2 years later.
I contacted a metal roofing company for mobile homes, they also want to use furing strips and insulation, and for the gutters a piece of metal flashing was somehow going to hold up the gutters. Did you choose to use plywood for gutter support?
