    It is estimated that every five seconds, one BILLY bookcase is sold somewhere in the world. Pretty impressive considering we launched BILLY in 1979. It’s the booklovers choice that never goes out of style. In this video you'll see how to securely attach two dis-by-side bookcases together so they are safer, sturdy, and more visually pleasing.

    Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.

    Add a washer to the barrel side to pull it a little tighter always go with metric washers if you want them to be a small as possible standard washers normally cover more space

    Fantastic thanks heaps - I followed this, and got a great result! One additional tip from me is that to protect a veneer finish when drilling the holes, I drilled until I could just see the bit coming out the other side, then removed the bit and drilled a little from the other side. I found that if you go all the way from one side you can push away larger shards of the veneer and it detracts from the finished job. But thanks heaps!

    Hey there. I'm swedish so obviously we got a lot of IKEA furniture in our home, of course some Billys. Did you secure the bookshelves in the wall as well? If not, I recommend you do so. Are those bolts/screws known by other names? I keep finding references to bolt fasteners, barrel fasteners, barrel nuts, and a bunch of other things. Do they all basically do the same thing as long as they are the right length and have the two pieces that screw into one another?

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  Рік тому +2

      I think up might be at risk of either having the unit tip or eventually causing the shelves to bend or buckle if you force them together. Have you considered putting shims under the bookcases to compensate for the uneven floor? You can buy wooden or plastic shims at any hardware store. Of course, I'd advise you attach them to the wall with the provided L-brackets just to be safe.

    Im not super handy, so what’s the best way going about this? Anchoring first one of the larger side cases to the wall and then attaching the skinnier middle bookcase to it, then securing the other large side case to the wall and then to the middle one?

    I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but I have no experience using my drill, what size is the drill bit used?

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  3 місяці тому +1

      Not a dumb question but there’s not a specific answer. It depends on the size of the fastener. To be sure, either use a drill bit gauge (it’s a piece of metal with many holes that indicate drill bit sizes), or simply drill test holes into a scrap piece of wood and see which one fits your fastener.

    • @AverageMe
      @AverageMe  26 днів тому +1

      @@beverleyvaldez920 I’m not sure I understand your situation, but a hex head bolt uses a hex socket. You can drive it with a socket wrench, ratchet, or screwdriver-like handle. It sounds like you’d need to use a hex socket on each side. I wouldn’t use anything like a bolt on this project as it would certainly interfere with items on the bookcase.

      I don't recall, but it would vary depending upon the size of the hardware. You can either use a drill gauge, or I often just hold the hardware next to the bit to compare sizes (yeah, kinda weak but I've been doing it that way for decades).

      @@AverageMe I was trying to replicate this with my shelves from target - No local ikea, and drilling the hole was fine but even a 13/64 bit was just a little small.
      I mean maybe I bought the wrong screws from amazon, but I don't know.
