    Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.

    Great transformation, I will definitely be doing this in my new house. Can’t beat those ikea bookcases for the price, I could buy the material for that cost let alone your time. You’ve made them look great for minimal expense. Thanks for sharing

    Wish you were in NM. I’d have you do mine! I wanted to get some Billy’s since they’re 79” tall, but had to settle for Target 71” since Ikea is a 5 hours drive away. It’s not the dream library wall, but it will do. Not sure I could finish them off as nicely as these you did!

      @@LewisRenovation indeed, I have four kalax cubes about to be fixed to the wall and covered to match my walnut desk. Frightened at the angled cuts for the top skirting. Hadn’t thought of biscuiting but that makes sense. Need some new tools!

    Hello - so no glue used with nailing the face frame to the front of the books cases? I am getting ready to do this and thought I would need to dado the back and apply with glue. Good to know the nails don’t go crazy after being shot in. What length nails did you use? I like that top cap trick you did. Nice work.

    • @LewisRenovation
      @LewisRenovation  3 роки тому +2

      I think if you screw the units together well the nails are really just fighting gravity. The units I worked on several years ago are still looking good.

    If I were to ask a local carpenter to do this, about how much should I expect to pay? I live in Kentucky

    • @LewisRenovation
      @LewisRenovation  Рік тому

      I'd think between $400 and 800, depending on how busy and established the carpenter is
