Aquarium Co-Op has become an internationally known aquarium brand, an impressive feat given that they were founded in 2013 as a brick and mortar shop. I was lucky enough to visit their shop this past spring and interviewed their founder, Cory McElroy.
Aquarium Co-Op is a wonderful, locally owned aquarium shop in the suburbs of Seattle, Washington. If you are nearby, it's worth a visit! And if you're not in the area, check them out online!

That was one of the most genuine and beautiful stories of success that I've seen in a long time. The amount of dedication, hard work, blood, sweat, and passion can really be seen in what Cory says. Not to mention that his vision for what he wanted really pulled through and shows what kind of leader he is. Thanks for the great video!
Cory has a special place in my heart. When i just got a kidney transplant. I remeber laying in hospital and looking at aquariums and thinking how nice it would be to find something that would take my mind of my operation and Daily medical checkups. I found his channel one Day i think he only had like 43k subs at that time. He made me feel so much better! The Day i got out of the hospital i went and bought my first aquarium. Cory has really helped me in life!
I'm on the wrong side of the planet to go to Aquarium Co-Op, but god damn I wanna go on a trip to Washington to see the store.. And sample American food, hopefully not get diabeetus
I’ve been there 3 times now. Best fish store I’ve been to. Not only for live stock and plants but the staff is exceptional. Not just “for a pet shop” but for any customer service
He is the reason I feel the need to be the best owner of fish I can be..his love for what he does is truly inspiring...I hope we can get more people like him into the hobby..he genuinely loves everything that he does and it really shows...
Cory is one of my favorites, genuine blue collar guy, happy to see him find success from all his hard work he has invested into his company.

He's living my dream. I wanted to do this locally, but I became ill with neuromuscular disease. I spend hours watching my own tanks, but when I dream...I'm running a place like this.
Don't say that you will never know till you try. Just has to be right time and place. Could be with a friend help you reach ur dream
I have a mitochondrial disorder. If I move too much, my heart and lungs could stop working. Sometimes, too much can be just making a pot of tea or brushing my teeth. I used to own a large company. I know how much work it is.
@@smilesdawolf7168 Hey Krista. I hope you are well. If you run a business and you get employees to help you, you can do it. If you can dream it you can do it. It is not cliche it is true. Yes easier said than done but if you think about Stephen Hawking, he had no muscular ability but he made an impact in the world. If you are a manager or an owner and hire employees they can do all for you. Just an idea. I am sitting in a 3rd world corrupt country in the Southern Hemisphere, far far away from any discus farm or industry, I had no car, no money, and I started with ONE fish tank selling discus. Today I have 3 small fishrooms and still building. Lots of people said I can't make a full time business out of a luxury expensive fish in a poor country but I did not want to give up. People are attracted to determination and passion and positivity. It does not matter what your appearance or circumstances. People will support you if you have great quality, positivity and perserverance. Another approach for you, is if you don't want to do large scale depending on your limits, then you can sell as a hobby setup. Similiar to Mark's Shrimp tanks. He has a fishroom with shrimp and that's how he did it at first. I believe you can still do it no matter the economy, environment.

I'm a member of GSAS. Cory is part of it as well. I've been in Cory's youtube channel for a while. I love his passion and motivation. I've bought a lot of stuff from his store. And hands down one of the best LFS we have here in PNW!
I watched Cory when he first started. That's a great story and glad he went forward.
Cory is such an inspiration, not just in respect of fish, plants or products, but mostly on how to be a good man.
Cory is not only inspirational, kind, funny, and giving with his knowledge and expertise. I’m gobsmacked at his dedication to xceptional customer service. He truly teats people as in the golden rule. I hope he knows how much he is truly appreciated.

Long time supporter, customer, and Member here. This is the first time I'm hearing that the store sold out and that's why no more on-line fish sales. That makes more sense than the vid about loss of revenue, employees overworked, etc. Great video per usual Alex. Loving wearing your merch here. Thanks.
For new hobbyist like me, Aquarium Co-op has been a life line. Great story and I wish them many years of continued success.
aquarium co-op's videos really helped me getting started out with a fishtank and understanding what goes into fishkeeping and i'm really grateful for that
I got back into the hobby last year after not being in it for many years. I discovered Cory's videos and have learned so much from him and other's he has supported too. Love they way he does business and supports the hobby.

I absolutely loved this video of Aquarium Co-op's start. Corys videos are my favorite UA-cam videos to watch. I'd never even seen any UA-cam videos until just a few years ago. I got back into my fish hobby the fall of 2014. I started watching a lot of Aquarium videos. Someone in a pet store watching a fish video and I heard Cory's voice. I couldn't help but keep listening. After the video stopped, I politely ask this lady who was the man doing the video. She told me Cory from Aquarium Co-Op. I was drawn to your calm laid back voice, your knowledge and love of the hobby. You were opening up boxes of fish you had ordered. I started watching your videos and have loved every one I've seen ever since. The orders I've placed we're all great products and shipped very fast. My favorites are the beautiful and super healthy plants you sell at an affordable prices. Every plant is thriving. Your customer service staff are the greatest. They absolutely go to great lengths to answer questions and make you a happy permenant customer. They don't brush you off like your not important, like some of sellers & UA-camrs. You and your company really care about your customers and that means a lot, a whole lot. Your videos have helped me and taught me so much. You are hands down my favorite place to shop and learn. Keep up the great work Cory and staff. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos of you and your friends going over seas catching fish and your unboxing of new fish!! You should be so proud of what you have accomplished. Great job!!!

You know, Cory isnt the only person I've bought from off UA-cam. But he's the first one I trusted where life is involved. And maybe that's because I really feel what he's saying a lot of the time. I agree with his approach to the science and the importance of sustainability and of utmost importance education. Ive been in the hobby long enough that I didn't always feel that way. So here is this guy that, to me, is new to the hobby preaching things that developed in me over, wow, a lot of years.

I'm so happy to be living in Washington and an hour away from the Coop. This video shows how hard it is for new businesses to succeed, another thing Cory said in Jimmy's video was one of the Tanks exploded and they had like 300g of water that was on the whole complex. And they still got through it and are kne of the most known and successful fish stores. Thank you Alex and Cory

Wow! I really enjoyed this video! Corys a smart guy. He really has vision & a purpose. I listen to him every chance I get. I'm constantly learning from him. He's open minded & continually learning himself as well as unselfishly teaching & sharing his knowledge & experience with others in the hobby. He's always looking ahead thinking, planning & strategizing for things in the future. You can really tell he loves the aquatic world & his role in it. He absolutely thrives on it & I think he just keeps continually getting better.

Wow... I love you and the company even more! I’m only buying from you unless you don’t carry it lol 😝 I just ordered 3 moss balls, a banana plant and a Ziss filter. I didn’t know you made your own sponge filters now, I’m going to be changing out all of the old ones I got from you. This might make you laugh, I didn’t know how to put the sponge filter together at first so I cut tubing and made the air flow from the very bottom so I totally get your new filters lol

What a great video! Looks like a fun store to visit and it’s fun to hear the history of it all.
