I do keep a large acrylic planted tank just for my two African dwarf frogs - Thanks so much for the video and affirmation that it's a great tank to watch, feed, to tend to = and yes, they are clumsy eaters.
I went to a local hardware store and, to my horror, saw they were selling ADF at the check-out counter. They were housed in a plastic container 6"x4"x4" w/ one 1/8" air hole at the top and a half dead scrawny plant. Each container housed 2 frogs. The substrate was florescent bright colors clearly aimed at children. The frogs were frantically swimming up and down. I was told the substate was developed by some zoo and only required water changes every 3 months. Even if this were true, these frogs were being kept in inhumane conditions. I ended up buying their entire stock of 12 frogs. They are now living in two 40 gal planted tanks and are doing very well. I was told by one employee that he was very happy to see these frogs going to a good home and the store would not be selling them again.
Haha Fake News!!!
Why make up something so obviously fake!??....😅🤡
I saw literally the exact same thing at my local hardware store yesterday! I bought a pair on a whim without even thinking, read the thing that said they could stay in there, and immediately said, no freaking way. Let's get these babies a new home and here I am prepping it!
@@brocksampson2590 Yes. They're often sold in toy stores as well.
I purchased some being sold at a holiday market. Completely misinformed about them and that's frustrating. I hope any other frogs sold are being taken care of by someone willing to do research on proper care. There were so many being sold. Kind of sad! I wrote to the company that was responsible for selling them.
This is exactly how I ended up with my 1 ADF. I felt bad for them and immediately bought a pair and a bigger tank. I'm still trying to figure out the best set up and am having problems with algae. But they seem way happier. I'm planning to buy an even bigger and better tank for them next year, but there seems to be a lot of debate about what's best for them.
Lizzie's voice is so soothing, I don't even notice I'm learning. An effortless knowledge transfer, well done!!
I know right. An I love the frogs
Mostly forgot in the hobby. They love living with my guppies. They even mate, though I have yet to get any babies. At least once a month they are,Mating l would love a bite on how to separate them and have success in breeding them since they seam to be a mated pair. Any advice please let me know. I would absolutely Love to have some babies🎉❤🎉🎉
@@jessicawalden Good luck with the tadpoles!! Keep me posted!
I didn’t know that magnet trick for the planted substrate. Thanks!
I really liked this video, it was clear, easy to see what was going on and it is very budget friendly. I especially liked that she used a regular spray bottle to keep the plants wet while planting. All other videos I have seen use those pressure pumps and they are just to expensive. It never occurred to me that I could use a spray bottle. Thanks for sharing. Does she do other videos on this channel?
The one time I kept African dwarf frogs, they ate every snail in the tank. It was wonderful - not a snail fan.
this is great! I personally don’t do water changes in my planted tanks, my parameters are always perfect. just make sure you have a good ecosystem!
*DO NOT USE SAND THAT AN ADF CAN ACCIDENTALLY SWALLOW* - use gravel or large stones OR SUPER fine sand like on many beaches (much finer than sugar and hard to find in stores).
These are a wetland frog and prefer slanted substrate and smooth hardscape that gives them a deepend of 4-8" of water and a shallow end of 2" or so. If given ideal conditions they can live insanely long lives.
FINALLY someone who know this
I have been debating whether or not to get some of these frogs for my brother, he likes frogs but our mama doesn't. This helps on the setup if I ever get he some.
When they spawn they give nice long hugs to each other and you can hear them "chirp" underwater. Tiny underwater froggy croaks.
It's cute.
@@gebus5633 aww that sounds cute! I'm going to ask him about the frogs this weekend I'd love to see and hear that.
It came out so cute!!! Great job team! 💚🐸
Bacon caroliniana 😂 3:15
⬆️send blame here
I was just researching these little guys after seeing them in local petstore. I'm about to build a 10 gallon and I wanted more than just fish.
Loving the video and I really like the natural cave you should do a more in depth tutorial on how to create them next.
Beautiful and yes I would. Thank you!
Just bought a dwarf frog and he’s doing great 😊
this looks amazing :) look at that!
looks great
Love it! 💚
great tutorial!
i laughed till i teared up at 8:51, they're so goofy 😭
it makes it funnier when she immedieately gives them more food to stop their fight :)
Very nice set up! I really enjoyed watching this video.
Cute!
Great video
Lizzie's voice though, i like her aquascaping.
The waterlevel for these shouldnt be higher than 25 - 30cm,
otherwise they struggle heavily reaching the watersurface
(could lead to death for smaller ones if they are below 2,5cm).
I like the idea of mixing sand and soil. From what I am reading the internet says this isn't a good idea though? Have you had luck/any problems with it?
THIS IS THE MOST HELPFUL VIDEO EVER
Highly suggest using Flourite Black Sand and a undergravel heater for this kinda setup. Have MTS, Ramshorns, Cherry Shrimp, Dwarf Frogs, and a couple crabs in a very similar setup with diff kinds of Cryptocorynes.(build a part with stone that breeches surface for the crabs). Am considering adding a Dwarf Cray.
Is that kind of sand good for Cory catfish too? I want to use this setup for my Cory cats, female betta, some neon tetras and my guppy
I will definitely be using this aquarium setup. Just a couple of questions first. I'm moving some frogs from another fish tank, and I have an Amazon sword in there. Can I plant that one too before adding the frogs in? My second question is, what size sponge filter should I use? My third question is, how many of each plant did you use?
Always a party when you got 4-6 ADFs in the tank.
love it! I wonder what you can do if you need to go to a trip? like maybe an auto feeder with freeze dried worms?
Freeze dried worms are bad for them. They expand after eating them and can cause the frog’s stomach to burst open
This video was so helpful! We have two ADF that my boys love! Question, how do you clean the tank when the glass starts getting cloudy with I’m assuming algae ? Help please 😊
you can maybe get a nerhite snail, they are great algae eaters.
Does the planted portion of your pennywort die and the rest split off and float up? I have some that keep doing that so I've just given up on planting them and just let them float, which they grew like crazy when I did that.
Hi, what temperate aquatic plants do you recommend that would be ok in zone 6b? I’m looking into rice fish, but I’m having trouble finding the right plants
That just doesn't seem like enough activity without fish. I have a 29 gallon with white clouds, cherry barbs and albino corys and just got a white and a grey dwarf frog yesterday. Between the rocks, wood and plants it's often hard to find them. The corys like to plow over them and when they start to climb it seems to confuse the small fish who drop to the gravel level and use the wood and stone tunnels.
Maybe they'd make good friends for my Betta, Ominis, in his ten gallon. His very own frog choir in the castle.
yes
in zoo tycoon for the pc there was an expansion with dinos your cave reminds me of the cave you got for the t rex
Is there some reason for only 6hrs of light/day. Some of these plants see 12-18hrs of light/day. Some people say to leaf lights on 24/7 for a few weeks. I’m starting with 16hr/day to see what happens.
Bah-cone
All i read was bacon plant. (Bay-can) (pork) lol
Oooooh, that have an empty 10 gallon tank! Great idea!
I've had 15 now and all of them haven't lived past 2 months, some lasting less then a week, they float at the top barely moving then they die soon after, my tank is a 10 gallon and it's just them according to several experts I'm not doing anything wrong, they die mostly after a water change but I use special amphibian water conditioner before hand as recommended by an expert, Please help! I don't understand what's wrong!
Maybe try buying your frogs from a different place, it may be the store you are buying them from, I would also restart the tank in case you have a disease in your tank
@frendoffish3348 I tried a different place and same results. I've treated for any disease and restarted my tank with no luck.
@@Syd_The_Sloth is it possible your frogs may have parasites?
@michellearden6448 I don't think so I've treated for parasites and restarted my tank to hopefully clear them out.
Do I need to quarantine african dwarf frogs?
I would love to keep these but alas, they are not allowed into Australia.
I'd like to keep a few pets that are from Australia and they're illegal here in Cali 😢
08:37 hello there
Can you keep african dwarf frogs with cherry shrimp? Anyone any experience with that?
Small crustaceans are very much on the frogs' menu, but the frogs are very derpy and not good hunters, so they may keep a population in check but they won't decimate it. Kept a couple frogs in a densely planted 10gal with cherry shrimp for like 3 years
Can't say from experience but I imagine at least some of the shrimp might get eaten, but having lots of hiding places should help
I'd also recommend adding the cherry shrimp first and let them get a healthy breeding population established before introducing potential predators
The frogs will try to eat the shrimp for sure. They are so small it won't succeed, but they might damage them when they attack their moving appendages.
They’ll eat them and sometimes the shrimp will get stuck and they can choke on it
I had shrimp in with the ADF. The last one only survived 2-3 weeks in
Dwarf frogs are better than me in practically every way, and I’m okay with that.
Bacon caroliniana😂 3:14
Sure why not. A new challenge maybe. 🐸
Still like the African clawed frog can they still be purchased
They are illegal in some states
@@masterpython I can understand why they are a bottomless pit when it comes to food if they were to survive and possibly breed in the wild here it would be devastating to local wildlife that reside
Where did you get the lid?
Petco has them, those are just standard lids.
@@MrKentaroSan Thanks!
Dont they need oxygen also?
I have two that I keep in a 33long with endlers, cherry shrimp, mollies and a male betta
Thật đẹp kiên trì cần thận 🎉❤
Looks really great, but seems like a big waste of aquasoil under most of the rocks.
Roots will find it
Mmm...Bacon Caroliniana
Why is this a members only video?
it's members only on thursday and it comes out for all saturday normally.
Yup, it comes out 24 hours earlier for members on Thursdays (as an extra perk) and then releases to the public on Friday. ~Irene
I have two. I honestly kind of regret getting them. I’ve had them a good long while. Just not a pet I’d get again. I enjoy shrimp more.
The males are very aggressive with their females so more of females is important .
Where are the Corey, Irene, or Kenzo videos???
Honestly want them back too. Especially Cory
Hi Theresa. Next week we will have a release with Cory. I believe the week after, there will be a release with me in it. Irene also has a video coming out soon on the channel. Thanks for the support! ~ "Zenzo" ;)
Since prison jk lol
Why does that guy have to appear at the end and spoil a great video, it’s really irritating
please don’t feed bloodworms 🤦♀️
