- Sailing up to Roque Island. I encounter an island full of curious seals. I also find some untouched white sand beaches and secluded anchorages.

Thanks for not having annoying music in your videos Sam
We've finally discovered something capable of irritating Sam! Lobster boats! LOL
Maine lobstermen and women are the most arrogant , ready to fight, ''we own these waters'' giant jerks. of all ''humandom'. but, if you need help they will give their life to help you. all the while laughing at ''how the hell did you get in this predicament'' . i keep my boat in York Harbor, Maine , and i know.
That was their way of telling Pete he's not welcome there.
Somehow because of their hardwork they thing they're entitled to their insurance.
Remember, a watreman only reaps, unlike a farmer who makes an equal or greater effort to sow the earth so they may reap.
And most of the lobsterman are too ignorant to know how to swim and will surely drown should they fall in
@@spymaine89 You got that right, bub. -- I gathered their traps this Thanksgiving and let the Lobsters go. -- The Lobsters are all around their own tables tonight giving thanks. 8)
@ Lobsters grateful but watch your back.
Wow people here have some pent up animosity towards lobstermen. Tell you what, why don’t you take some of that piss and vinegar and vent it at the pub or wharf at your local harbor. You know, tell them how you really feel.
Or you could just try to put yourselves in someone else’s shoes. For instance how would you feel if the next time you were trying to get something done wherever you worked, some people with time to spare, kept getting in your way?
Ok, you missed a sweet cinematic moment for us. Should have given us 30 secs more of the night time howling. Don't forget stuff like that. Good stuff Sam; enjoying from afar.
And we needed to see a longer close shot of the marvelous granite lighthouse
it was a pretty good shot anyway, conveyed the information at least
a little asmr seal howling is what this guy wants :3
Happy Thanksgiving, Sam. Best wishes for your surgery. Looking forward to more videos, plus the Atlantic crossing next year.
hi good day, I'm stalking the turkey. It is very nice that you are smiling. you give good energy.
Congratulations on completing the east coast. Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you. Living the dream.
Mosquito Suit has got to be one of my most favorite inventions. 🙏
Your videos are so much fun to watch Sam. I’m probably too old to do what you’re doing myself, but it looks like so much fun. Adventure galore! Thanks for including us on your voyages
I would be scareder than heck in that fog! Oo spooky mermaid demons! Ooooowee
Whatever those were making those noises in the background would've had me a bit on edge.
Keep up the good work. We're all vicariously living our lives through you.
Absolutely awesome. Hope all is well with you, and I look forward to your continued adventure. Thanks
That was eerie, the fog and the howling, a big change when it lifted. Now that's a challenge. The Atlantic. Maybe even meet NBJS Erik.
Legend, huge inspiration, I can't wait till I'm on my boat, fair seas legend 🤙🤙
Living the dream it appears. Stay safe and healthy and thanks for sharing the adventure!
Love it! Sailing season has been unbearably short this year - watching you gives back at least some of the lost yipees
Man, your videos are enjoyable as hell. Well done.
Can’t wait to see your Atlantic Crossing Adventure Sam. Love your videos.
Hi Sam! I love following your adventures. What an amazing secluded bay you found, so beautiful! Thanks for sharing your life with us, will look forward to your Atlantic crossing next year. Cheers and stay safe.
Keep up the great work Sam!!
The scenery is awesome. Thanks for the video.
First thing I thought of when I saw those seals was I wonder how many sharks are nearby waiting for a meal lol. Sam do not row over that way haha.
- last July, a mother and her daughter were swimming off the dock from their summer home, and the mother was attacked, and killed by a Great White Shark - just thought I would mention this rare shark attack because of the area off the Eastern Coast of the US...

Beautiful area Sam!!! Thanks for sharing!!!👊🤙👍💯
Late night treat here in the UK, cheers Sam. Looking forward to your Atlantic crossing next year
Love those aerial shots
Congrats Sam on your tour de la cote est! Looking forward to "sailing" along with you 'cross the pond next year. I know it's too late now but hope you checked yourself for tics after each hike. Legend has it that a lobsterman’s mother-in law fell overboard from his boat in rough seas and her body washed up on shore weeks later with a dozen lobsters attached. In discussing disposition of the remains, a fellow fisherman says that in view of the high price of lobster and the poor state of the economy, he’d “set her again.”
Always look forward to your videos.
IM SO EXCITED TO GET MY SHIRT!!!!
Congrats on your voyage from Key West to Maine Sam!
Sea ghouls! This is so cool, we went to almost the same spots just days apart!
Those lobstermen were purposefully messing with you, Sam. They can see the course you're on. Maybe you need to invest in one of those prop protectors that can slice through line. ;)
Safe and happy sailing ⛵️💛
Really nice photography of those hiking trails on the island! Reminds me of kayaking trips along the Maine Island Trail. .great place for kayak camping too along the shore line.
Cheers Sam!
Congrats on making it to Maine! Safe travels.
Closed Captions is very funny at 10.37.. Live the videos.... Keep em coming.
Before I clicked this video I had a random thought "I really wish Sam would cross the Atlantic."
When I hit 9:00 I lost my freaking mind! LET'S GOOOOOO!
Also I love boat projects! I'm so excited!
Hey Sam! Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving! Beautiful Maine - looks like a fun trip. So cool how you just get out there and see the sites - hardly anything seems to slow you down! Take care and hope you are having fun at "Holy Mackerel" with boat projects!
Great video!
Happy Thanksgiving Sam!
Great drone videos
The northern side of Trafton Island in Narraguagus Bay is a nice well protected place to lay over if you're up this way again.
Nice video, simple but shows the north east landscape
The thumbnail we have been waiting for.
Great video, seems a lovely place to go. Have always wanted to explore the upper east coast of the US.
Love your videos
Loved it
awesome video dude
Looks like you’re growing the flow again
Hello from Canada. Once again Sam thanks for taking me along on your trips so refreshing I only your videos are a little bit longer Netflix should give you a contract.
That Island with the fog and the sea lions -- it was like a horror movie. I also dug the shot with Jupiter shining over your shoulder. You found some great anchorages and places to explore in this one.
They are harbor and gray seals.
Thanks@@jdenmark1287 In CA they tend to be sea lions. (And probably why Sam -- who live in CA -- called them that.
overall really good vid.
Nice 👍
Yo, you're in maine! Welcome
Sorry you have had to deal with the fog but fog has been so prevalent the last few years on the coast. Glad you got to see the coast of Maine and MDI
Seal team 6 on your tail !
Finally!
The lobstermen are working...not playing.
It would be great if you could identify the locations! Where you fuelled up, where you anchored, which island you refer to. For those of us who have sailed that coast a location ID would make it more interesting!
the lighthouse is very cool. were you under motor around the lobster boats? beautiful beach and cliffs! of course big old bugs in maine.
Oh my fish! Creepy seal noises.
Nice congrats on east coast. Did you find any difficulty in setting anchor in the Rocky north. Thank you
Sam ... Can you can add to the length of spooky seal island ?
This was an awesome video !
Be safe ...
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Thats all the footage I have on this one unfortunately. I was proud of this episode. I wish it had gotten more views.
7:15 wow.
Everybody's fat and happy until the seal gang shows up
Yeah seals are no joke. Recently heard story about someone drowning because the seals wouldn't let him up on a buoy.
Where did Sméagol disappear, back to Mordor?
How do you like your Windpilot wind vane? Do you use it much? I enjoy your videos and am one of your Patreons.
Who makes those water shoes? I'm always on the lookout for some good ones.
Cant wait to see your boats name on the wall in Horta. (if that is your plan)
Nice one Sam. Were the seals just inquisitive or maybe being territorial 🤔
They be mermaids!!!
Hey Sam, here's the deal with lobstermen. Show a tough working man front so pleasure boaters & sailors don't think you're friends and wouldn't mind if you snuck a few treats out of their traps. The best way to get their goat is to smile and give 'em a big wave when you cross paths!
What kind of shoes do you have for sailing, particularly those "water shoes" also? Thanks
excellent video. am I about to buy a sailboat in Florida that insurance company would advise?
I want to see you visit Bermuda maybe on the trans-atlantic trip.
Happy Thanksgiving Sam, hope you checked in with your family or if this video was backdated you got to spend time with them.
He's been back for 2 months
The ending of Sam's videos is usually recorded the day he posts the video. In this case it was at a cabin in the NC mountains with his family.--His Happy Mom
👍
As always so amazing Sam! Hope you had a good Thanksgiving with your family. When is your surgery? How long did it take you to sail straight back to NC?
About a month to sail back
I think the lobsta boats
were keeping an eye on
that crazy sailor...
What do you mean
they are looking at you?
You're looking and filming
the seals/sea lions,
their island, not yours,
you're just visiting / traveling through...
Those unrandom lobster pickups just in front of you may be a territorial display or a deterrence. Lobster folks I worked with years ago could be paranoid that someone else is pulling up their traps, maybe a tourist that doesn't grasp the wrath they risk.
Titt-miNAN is how it the island name is pronounced, I think (please Mainers correct me if I am wrong), A beautiful part of the world !
have you thought about sailing around the Caribbean ?
Yeah. Its been closed for covid though
Nice job as usual. I'm going to be taking my boat down your way so I might be able to give you a hand for a day or three with your refit. I'll drop you an email later today.
Should have included clips with the thunder of multiple unmuffled lobster boats jostling around. Not always an idyllic place, and they can be aggressive even with each other. One threw a hammer at the window of the lobster boat I was on.
Lobster boats: two sides to the issue. On the one hand, the lobster fields have been "farmed" for generations of the same family so they feel somewhat possessive of "their" turf. They often are disdainful and, sometimes, downright hostile to pleasure craft. On the other hand, there are plenty of pleasure craft owners who don't think twice about cutting lobster pot lines (either manually or through cutters on the shaft) when snagged in the rudder or tangled in the prop. Of course, it can be said that it's damned hard to navigate through a lobster pot field when the pots are packed together as they often are. A conundrum, to be sure. I guess just be thankful that it is not a bygone era when disputes between rival lobstering families or other "trespassers" were settled with shotguns at close range.
Great Video..But how do you get that shot at 10:23 while you are rowing?...👍🍻
Its the “dji mavic mini drone” its got these automatic flight modes that track you hands free!
@@samholmessailing Cool..I am going to check it out..Thanks for the reply Sam..👍🍻
🤟😎🤟
Get yourself a good airhorn for those pesky boaters getting too close!!!!!!!
Great video mate. I noticed you mentioned having the anchor easy to access. I know what you mean, I really need to do something with my anchor. It's a heavy beast and just sitting in my anchor locker with a chain. I had a very hard time dropping it and pulling it up a few times.
I am not sure for what purpose you use the anchor. But for a sailor it is a life insurance - and weight especially if the chain - certainly increases the holding power in strong winds and current
I thought the rule was that power boats have to give the right of way to sailboats? Or were you under power also?
The rule is; Under sail on starboard tack > Under sail > who's bigger. Smallest boats get out of the way except those with sails out, but then the other rules all still apply. Simple stuff :)
@@PetesCreativeRecycling
That shit and rules of the road don't matter to lobstermen, they'll run any strangers out of their waters.
Got a yanmer 1gm for aunt bee
Seals or Sea Lions?
3:00 creepy
You don't have AIS or radar reflectors. Your sailing in invisible mode. They probably don't see you.

The wilderness of Maine, if you can deal with the black flies, mosquitos, and year round ice cold water - is beautiful. Unfortunately, the combination of poor, unemployed younger people ( a large percentage of which are on drugs), rich coastal vacation home owners, and the dwindling numbers of gainfully employed overtaxed locals creates a toxic mix of suspicion and animosity. If you're not a rich, coastal, "faux" Mainer, it can be a hard life. This helps explain some of the nastiness one can encounter in the lobstering "community". If you're out on the water in the coast of Maine and you don't run into a lobsterjerk who is heavily armed and/or on drugs, that's a good day. Btw, get a radar Sam (I'm going to keep bugging you until you do). Just because you have one doesn't mean you need to keep it running all the time - using up power and partially frying every cell in your body. If you have it, it's there when you need it, especially in dangerous fog conditions or when sailing solo out in the shipping lanes when you're either sleeping or half asleep. We just lost several fisherman off P-Town - probably from a nighttime ship collision. Even with the best equipment, if you're too drunk or the warning system is not set up correctly, the EPIRB won't always save your life. Ship strikes can kill instantly. Please stay safe, we all want to keep seeing your ever smiling face!
petite (small) manan (man-nan)
It's Baa harbor not Bar harbor 😀
Great video.
Baa haba!
I like that sam is conservative, as in he preserves and practices old traditions: values. He practices sailing and self sufficiency, both of which are old world traits / activities. This is what the younger generation needs to focus on.
There is a lot to be said for "old traditions". Imagine that people managed their entire lives without a smart phone or a computer just 30 years ago 9 and zero tracking). Yes everyone today should strictly use their cell phone for telephone calls. Forget texting. Use your computer at home for going on-line.! Forget social media if it involves time and date stamping your activities. That is how you can actually maintain privacy and independence.

There's a lot to be said for modern technology and this goes for all modern technology to ever come along, with each iteration derived from a desire to improve life, which today's tech meant to free us up while at the same time connecting us.
It is up to the individual to not lose themselves
Funny tho how people come on here critiquing the very media which they are viewing.
If not for this tech we would not see the wonderful places Sam is bringing us.
That's it sister you create the man to be whoever you want in your head. Whichever fits your narrative
@@tommypetraglia4688 Video cameras and the internet existed pre-facebook and pre-UA-cam as did websites and search engines before "Google" (for gosh sakes). "Wonderful" technology of "today" is not necessary.
Definitely! Ditch the Interwebs and become a fur an' fish trader on an old wooden gaff rigged pinky schooner. We can read about his exploits in the papers every year when an' if the scurvy don't take him!
What boat are you sailing now?
Cape dory 28
Cool man! It looks so much bigger in the video.
