Good inverted comma/abbreviation mark usage. Though 100% valid and grammatically correct, I've never seen it used in that specific application before. Kind of feels 'piratey' too, for some reason. _Garrr!_ Which is cool, particularly for a sailing video comment board. (I'm stoned, sorry) 😎👌
Great episode Sam. So good to see you fly the spinnaker that you have. Poor Zoey - such a trooper up to help when she would rather be sharing with the fishes :( Take care and I look forward to the next live stream
Your spinnaker has beautiful colors to it. What a great place to anchor next to Statue of Liberty with a setting sun and all the lights of surrounding NYC & NJ. I think the 79th Street boat basin (Hudson river) has overnight moorings and from there you could explore the Midwest side of Manhattan on foot (when the City's more hospitable). Nice drone shots!!
I anchored at the same place back in 1986 during the celebration Statue of Liberty centennial. We lucked into a front row view of the fireworks, along with 30,000 other boats. We anchored close to where you did on the NJ side. Woke up to a view of the Statue out the back. Was awesome! Glad you got to enjoy it.
Love it Sam ... Cape Dory 27 owner (Rhode Island YC, Narragansett Bay) so I'm enjoying the CD dna of your videos, as well as your adventuresome and upbeat spirit. They are sturdy dependable boats ...
I grew up in NNJ and when I worked in NYC, I would take the train down to Hoboken then either train or ferry across. The two things I loved most was, in the morning the reflection of the sun off the World Trade Center onto the water and the Statue of Liberty at night all light up, it looked surreal against the backdrop. I live up in Syracuse now but I miss that commute aa lot.
You might want to check out Patrick Laine's channel. He started using a spinnaker, solo, quite a bit and seems to have become pretty good with it. He has some interesting ideas on sail configuration. Just got through with the everglades videos, awesome stuff, except those mosquitoes. Hope you are enjoying NE.
Sam, been enjoying the videos for a long time. Ever feel like adding a little backstory to your adventures? A little personal narrative to follow? Ex- why are you going? With who? For how long?
Never got that close to the city, but we did sail across the NY shipping lanes at night. (Cape May to Maine). In a fog. Scary when you can hear big vessels but can’t see them!😬 Pretty spinnaker.
Another good one Sam, Spinnaker looks good, a bit of work getting it up and down and stowed. Man, anchoring off the Statue of Liberty, how cool is that?
Hey, Sam! Great pictures, around Liberty! 😃👍 But a spinnaker, to small, doesn´t make too much sense, does it? Hope, you can change it for a bit bigger, but asymmetrical one! Would be easier to handle, but more powerful! And reefing the mainsail could help, to get a clear current on the spinnaker. 💪 Fair winds! 😎👍
Wow I got excited when I saw the title, I was just sailing at NYC. Our season is starting next week, but it turns out you were not at Nedlands Yacht Club😂
So I guess they let you stay anchored right there eh? Pretty cool, but also a noisy place to sleep with all the helicopters. Surprised there was not way more container ships as you approached the bridge.
Great video Sam, love the fast pace of your videos. Question- any fear or worry of container ships or other boat traffic in that area? Are you using a cruising guide and if so which one? Thanks!
So if you dont like your spinnaker and its to small id be interested. I have a catalina 22 and need a spinnaker for light wind sailing. I will come to you to get it
I loved it, that you’re willing to dare anchor near the Statue of Liberty. Tell us what happened there, did you decide to move to be safe? You never stop amazing me. Great to see the spinnaker use, I’d love to see you get a bigger one.
G'day Sam. A very nice view of the harbour, however i feel that Zoe should have more airtime on the show as she is part of it as well. Ho yes, have started my ytube channle and loaded my first vedio an itro of my boat. Just type in Sv Freedomstar and it should come up. Gerard.
Hey man, have a safe trip! I was born on Long Island and my great grandfather has our family name in the Statue of Liberty because they gave some money to the initial build. Glad I can see it from your boat's perspective!
Yup looks like the kite is a little on the small side mind you packing a full size kite will fill cabin. Looks like to are mising the turning block on the guy. I have found before hosting the kite to pull on the guy a little so it is out of the bag a little. That way it is a quick pull to set it on the pole and you can concentrate on the sheet. You have also found out things can get a little fraught when sailing under kite. Keep up the good work.
Wow, do I have an amazing grandson, or what? Pop pop would be soooo proud of you!
He is a special young man!
Mu sister has a crush on Sam.
Totally agree. Amazing soul.
@Jaxx Joshua scammer
You sure do. I am sure you are very proud of him. Take care.
Knowing how much more effort goes into Spinnaker sailing, makes sense why they always are so colorful. Really great episode Sam and Zoey.
Thanks. Lot of set up but they make for good pictures. 📸
Never saw the statue lit up like that , good shot . 😉👍👍🇺🇸
I too did not realize you could anchor so close to Lady Liberty. Nice.
Watching bit by bit all older videos, great adventure, well documented, thank you!
that view of NY at night is just amazing.
I loved your LA to Hawaii video where the fish were jumping in to your ship to be eaten!
The nighttime view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan was spectacular. What a thrill.
“Did what I told you to, that’s all I needed you to do” 🤣🤣🤣
Sam I’ve been married 23 years and that one comment alone is worth the thumbs up and a sub
Steer to the right, steer to the RIGHT! That's about as panic'y as Sam gets LOL.

Right there with ya Mr. Deaux. I think I’m approaching couch lock.
@@5amH45lam No need to apologize, watching Sam sail, it's perfectly fitting. He's sooo chill...
As always, a really enjoyable video. Can't put my finger on it, its just like being there with a friend you've known for years. Thanks very much.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
"You did what I told you to, that's all you've gotta do," 😬😬😬 Sam lives dangerously.

The spinnaker is so pretty. Thank you, Allen!
It's nice to see her under sail with the spinnaker. Looks to be a fun trip.

Excellent video Sam Holmes! Great channel! I am one of your tens of thousands of subscribers. Just checking in to say"Hi" from downtown Montreal.
Fantastic Sam. Totally dig the NYC Skyline at night. Bring us your seasick and tired...

Great video loves the night time footage of NY city. Also as always I love the drone footage.

Awesome anchorage in NYC!
Yay!!!! Boston I couldn’t wait until you got here as soon as I heard you were coming
Nice work throwing the drone up at sunset and the statue in the shot. Brilliant timing!!👍🏽⛵️
If you have a loop in your halyard to clip the spinnaker to you can raise it and still be able to easily get it back down if you lose your sheets.
Nice video! FYI halyard goes on the head, guy and pole goes on the tack, sheet goes on the clew.
Ahh yes I never remember those
@@samholmessailing Your spinnaker sheet and guy should be double the length of your boat
Epic NYC shots holy cow.
The Statue of Liberty lit up like that looks amazing.
great episode. Quick cooking segment was interesting. thanks again :)
Great Job Sam and Zoe!!! That was a beautiful sail!!
Great stuff as always. Lady Liberty was lookin nice.
Gorgeous views of Lady Liberty and Manhattan. Loved it.

You guys have to be the most wholesome couple on UA-cam. It's so cute, and you have a fan for life!
Your boat is probably bigger than most living spaces in that city.
My boats pretty small but id rather be living it doing the adventures i am now than working in a city again.
Your sailboat infront of the statue of liberty looked awesome.
Bad ass views in NYC 👏👏👏 You’re doing an amazing job! And Zoe too 💪💃
The final shot of new York was so rad, never knew you could anchor so close
Nice colors on your spinnaker, looks nice
Sam, been enjoying the videos for a long time. Ever feel like adding a little backstory to your adventures? A little personal narrative to follow? Ex- why are you going? With who? For how long?

You sailed right my area, Cape May to Atlantic City, cheers!
Loving your adventures Sam, keep em coming!
Great Video..enjoy NY! Thanks Sam.
Great job! Continue inspiring!

Pretty spinnaker.
so amazing
I'm going to Anchor almost exactly in that same spot for July 4th.
Well, ya finally arrived! My suggestion would be to sail on sailor New York is a very very lonely place these days.
I’ve been on probably 8-10 sailboats including my own and have yet to be on one using a spinnaker. I guess it’s something to still look forward to.
Theyre fun to mess around with but more of a pain for actually cruising.
@@samholmessailing they definitely seem like a lot of work which is probably why I've yet to see one in person. I guess nobody wants to be bothered.
Great drone shots
I envy you. You're doing an item on my bucket list: sail from Sanford, Fl to New York Harbor....👍
i live in new york glad to see you make it to my area
Awesome. Keep it up.
Great video Sam!
missed you in NYC! damn, hope you enjoyed our fine city.
Another good one Sam, Spinnaker looks good, a bit of work getting it up and down and stowed. Man, anchoring off the Statue of Liberty, how cool is that?
We anchored behind the Statue of Liberty in Liberty Park. You will love it. Quiet
i liked the video. that's a different boat than the one you sailed in to hawaii.
Nice shots of the lady ❤🇺🇸
Great job Sam
Very, very cool!!
Nice arial shots! Keep up the good work! 🤙
Thanks
Get yourself an asymmetrical spinnaker. So much easier to fly and no pole needed.
do you require a bow sprit?
adam8642 No. You can fly the tack around the furled headsail using an ATN Tacker or the equivalent.
@@svZia-Switch51 thats just marvellous. need one of those
These are my cruising grounds. If you're ever back - let me know!

Was wondering what the really good audiobook is ?
Thanks for the nice video! Id love to go some day to NY. Stay safe ;O)
Behind on UA-cam ! Lovin the insta-maine shots!
So I guess they let you stay anchored right there eh? Pretty cool, but also a noisy place to sleep with all the helicopters. Surprised there was not way more container ships as you approached the bridge.
Consider taking down the spinnaker between the mainsail and the boom. No risk of destroying it in the railing.
Hmm.. my mainsail is not loose footed so i dont think that would work.
I sure like the vistas!
same!
Oooooh aaaaaah pretty!
I thought the same thing but you beat me to it
Great video Sam, love the fast pace of your videos. Question- any fear or worry of container ships or other boat traffic in that area? Are you using a cruising guide and if so which one? Thanks!
Yes I worry about colliding with one when I’m near the shipping lanes. I’m not using a cruising guide.
looks so nice out there
right?
Food lion shredded cheese. You must've bought that in North Carolina.
Yeah I think I did.
Hello from Long Island! :D

Looks like a J24 spinnaker
Im in salem harbor mass, if youre coming through, let me know ill be happy to run some supplies out to you!

Were you allowed to anchor near the statue of liberty?
Yes
What do the spinnakers do ?,
Very nice
How do you receive wishlist items while sailing?
I haven’t found a way to do it while sailing
