- In today's episode, we make a DIY homemade carpet and headliner for the Datsun.
While this won't get you professional results, our method was cheap enough for even the stingiest of car owners. We know that fixing a car is expensive, so here's our cheap and easy do it yourself method of fabricating carpet and headliner for your car.
A heat gun would allow you more stretch in your headliner, to avoid wrinkles. The floor carpet looks fine. With fitment jobs like this, the ONLY way to get better is through repetition. I'm on my 50th floor carpet job tomorrow and I'm feeling pretty confident. But I'm an old fart. Good video !!!
Do you do car carpeting as a career or side hustle?
Good job!! Good to see a younger guy keeping the Z legacy alive.
Dude, that carpet looks super legit. No joke.
With better lighting and some more video of how-to, this would be a great video. Thanks.
Douglas Robinson I can see perfectly fine maybe turn up your brightness😂😂😂😂
What a backhanded compliment 😂😂😂
Calm down buddy
Good video!
It is good to see a video to show people how to make their car or truck look a lot better for cheap.
$30 for that rug is right up my alley. Going to try and see if Lowe’s or similar has one I can get. Doing the carpet on a 02 frontier so I don’t really need like super nice carpet.
Thanks to your video I was able to do my carpets on my car. Thanks buddy
bruhhhhhh, that's dope...you have just saved me a lot of money...thank you for the inspiration...
Looks good, budget friendly and with the money you saved, you can take a nice weekend off!!
Looks great for the price. Better than a lot of cars I've owned
Don't take away from what you did that looks fire 🔥
.... Until then ....
Great video. I’ll be doing the same in my project. I didn’t think about vinyl for the headliner. I’ll have to look into that
Hey man, work with smaller parts at a time for example apply half the head liner first then the second half and the end result will be much better. However in saying that it does look really nice. Great job
I did my old z car i had bitd with black carpet from home depot.. worked just fine..came out great. I had 2 ,76 z cars back to back..i so want another.
Excellent work! If I may, next time get a small roller to even out the material and start from the center and work outwards, don’t lay the fabric all at once. But overall guys that’s look awesome.
You could of sprayed the whole headliner with that vinal spray I use it all the time it holds up for years the stuff is amazing, great video btw keep it up 👍
Dude that looks good to me gonna be using your advice on my “new” used work truck
Best thing I found to use to get vinyl to conform to shapes like this is a hairdryer and a caster wheel, you can get a couple different size and use them like little rollers to get it into all the corners and bends.
This is great I was basically looking for someone else to just buy a carpet and then put into a car instead of paying for a molded one and I found it 🤣 I bought a standard carpet the other day and thought I'm just gonna put it in my car but wanted clarification to see if I was mad or not 🤣
Aye bro dont be discouraged it looks really good I wouldn't buy a new molded carpet for 2 reasons 1 I'm broke 2 its gana be like any other car getting creative is the way to go so no one else has the same thing as you
Looks pretty good, especially for the price you paid. The headliner looked like getting a perfect fit would be tricky. But I definitely got some good ideas for my 280ZX
...honestly i watched it entirely & i respect it
Nice video, gave me a bunch of ideas, and honestly results were good.
I’m currently doing this rn, in the dark with a light, but my bench seat wouldn’t come out, and I had a shit ton of rust holes Behind the seats, I had to sand it and just spray it with rustoleum. Then put some tar paper on it, and now after a break and watching this video again, I’ll try my best to put in the rug and cut it to shape 😞. Doing this in a 1976 el Camino. Since I didn’t take the bench seat out, I have to do the front and back, and it sucks. Mine came out to $35 too. Thank you for the idea, and good video 👍.
A bit unorthodox but I can relate... nice job! I remember my Dad's old Datsun 610 wagon from back in the day. Lousy car but absolutely great in the snow. Those were the days...
I think it looks great! Well done.
You just saved me $500 with this. Thanks
You did a great job, the carpet on my D21 and 280z need some remodeling.
Did u spray adhesive down for the carpet or did u just lay it in dry?
I think you should be more proud of yourself for that. I'm a particular guy, and I think that's impressive. I found your video extremely helpful. I'll be taking that info and hopefully improving my own interior. Thanks for documenting your project.
Thanks for your vid. I got choices to make now. Will try to post a before and after pictures of my project at hand. 😊
Looks great my brother
Good stuff guys, for what its worth it looks good and does the job.
Good job man I like it. I have a 69 Firebird I would have given anything to have carpet in but I couldn't afford it back in the day when I was your age. I wish. I thought of that. Great job sir. I actually almost killed myself trying to weld in a shelf that was painted with God only knows what kind of paint period And I was underneath there huffing the burnt paint smoke.
Winter is beautiful
What you use to keep carpet on the floor ???
I subbed just because of the intro. Anime intro is great
The carpet looks good.
Im sure this channel is gonna go big in the future
That carpet 👌👌👌 looks great and definitely it’s worth the 30 bucks
Nice work! Just wondering if the headliner and the carpet are still fine three years later!
Good job on the carpet and head liner, keep up the great work.
I need to find a girl who love cars
@@rayne7671 well hello lady🤗
Lots of girls love cars lmao
Lmao be gay like me it's more easy to find XD
I do
@@Si-mom You're not alone, I'm not a girl but I know a lot of girl friends of mine that loves cars too and do mechanics too!
Love how you guys are so young and learning and doing things for yourselves. Definitely gonna sub!
Congrats! More young folks with the same initiative as you, can make their rides really smart.👏
I don't have a headliner insert im wondering if I scuff up the paint and glue it to the metal?
it still looks really good
Quick tip: spray 303 UV protectant all leather, vinyl, rubber surfaces, even belts, trim and tires. You’ll never have a dash crack or faded parts. My friend has detailed cars for a long time now and he has a repeat customer who drives a 2003 civic that looks brand new because he’s been getting it detailed with him since new. This stuff has been around since 1987 and was meant for aircrafts but works wonders on cars!
Soak the carpet in hit water, vacuum the water out then use a heat gun . The hot water combined with the heat gun relaxes the caroet and it really helps stretching it. The high quality the caroet the better they stretch
I think you did a great job.
Man that's super awesome! Looks great!
Wynter, what a cool name! (no pun intended)
This is awesome bro.
How is the carpet holding up? By any chance do you get any fumes going inside the vehicle with that type of carpet?
About those wrinkles ... as the material is vinyl, all you needed to do was use a heat gun to stretch the material in those areas which it didn't want to sit flat to the headliner backing board. Also, use some sort of straight edge to drag across the material from the centre to the outer edges to get those wrinkles out.
It was all going so well, the choice of fabric, the 3M adhesive (good choice), bu then you just didn't know how to finish the job properly to get a factory grade result.
I hope you'll consider what I've suggested and go redo it because your car deserves it.
Totally agree, would've been a 10/10
Good ideas, great job.
Hey man, love the videos and dedication you put in for a small channel, please keep up the good work! Just wanted to suggest a quick- tip, link your products used in the video so others can DIY themselves.
I know that this video is old but what products did you use and buy? I am wanting to install my own carpet and headliner on my 1996 Toyota Corolla
How long has the headliner held up? It looks awesome on video!
If you use some kind of insulation layer i.e foam it’ll come out a lot flatter and you’ll have much better results. But good job
Ya did a damn good job with what ya had.
Next time use a plastic putty knife or scraper tool instead of your hands, and do one half at a time. Damn good though.
The vinyl and fabric paint, from my experience, cracks and chips after a couple summers of UV exposure.
The carpet turned out well. I honestly had my doubts when you pulled out a roll of cheap carpet material, but holy smokes did you blow away my expectations. Please tell me you used glue or contact cement.
So we don't have to have any insulation padding under that carpet?.. im getting ready to do mine on a 82 s10 soon..
Not Bad I Have An Old Car I Need Done What City Or Town Are You In?
Winter is georgous
Good video😎Cute couple🤗
If you put your fabric on before you spray it, and only spray and lay the fabric only half the headliner at a time, you wont get any wrinkles.
This gives me inspiration was looking at a area rug last night to do my square body. Yours came out really good good job man!
Did you use any adhesive, or anything for the area rug to stay in place? I am considering trying to cut an overlay over my car carpet, using an area rug like you did. Cuz im not tryna pay a lot to get the desired color carpet I want, on my 06 Lucerne 😂
It's cool to see how you guys are coming up with your own ideas but I have a little piece of good info if you were to do your headliner half at a time you would have had no wrinkles good job
Seeing this video makes me miss my old 280zx
That came out great
what adhesive did you use on the carpet? or is there no adhesive at all, you just put it down ?
What kinda carpet did you use
Oh wow you did...damn good! It looks awesome. As long as you are satisfied who cares. It's your ride and anyone picking it apart needs to get a life. Thank you for tips.
Nice job 👍🏻 looks great
Was it you I saw in Alpharetta today, while I was driving in my gray 80ZX?
Hi fellow Alpharetta resident
you need to get residue of headliner sand it seal it apply material fold in half then do one side at a time from middle out. carpet seamer will fix your carpet transitions rent one ,will give you better results good effort .
You should check out the LEDs I put in my interior, I did the map light and everything
An led map light? That sounds awesome. Checking it out now!
that's a nice start for an interior
Thanks! Hopefully over the next couple weeks it’ll transform from crappy to decent. Lol
Use a paper towel roll to help form the material .
I have a Z and I finally found this thank
Where did you get that carpet material
walmart gray indoor, outdoor carpet with spray glue. it molds to car floor much better.
Nice car 👍
What should I use as plastic dye
good job
Lol, I just did the Lowe special in the interior of my Pontiac Firebird👌
That vinyl paint will come off if you don't get some acrylic sealer
