The reason this spray-on carpet dye theory doesn't work, other than for a photo shoot, is that automotive carpets are very stain resistant. The car company couldn't sell their cars if they weren't. Price out OEM molded carpets. They are not ripping you off. It costs a lot to make them. This is why when you buy a used car, if the carpets were stained before, they are stained when you buy it. The only place they use this dye is a matching color to hide stains around center consoles where no foot traffic is possible. The reason automotive carpets stain in the first place is the fibers were all sliced up by sand and lost their finish, and stuff can embed itself into the fibers. You sand before painting for this very reason. The dye lays either on top of the he stain that is occupying the sanded fibers, or on the stain-resistant fibers. This is why the color rubs off the carpet around your feet, rubs off on your bare feet, and if you clean and shampoo it comes up in the machine or on the rag. How do you fix this mess? I lucked out about a year later when someone pulled off a side street in front of me and the engine was pushed under the car so the car was totaled. If your carpets are stained, you need new carpets. Make sure you get quality, and keep the sand out of them.
Wheres the best place to get those plastic trim pieces? Also the cargo cover? My z31 is all tan interior and I'm trying to do EVERYTHING black. If you have links to places online for OEM trim and and interior that would be super helpful. Awesome vid though and I'll have to try out that dye for my carpet
