I love Merrin's character, awkward, angry, shy but also sassy and for having minimal social interactions she radiates a confidence around others. I like to think part of it is a natural mimicry of Cal who's also awkward but confident. I also feel like Merrin is the key to the ending. She's the one that brings Cal into questioning the end goal of rebuilding the order. He realizes she's right that the children's lives will be in danger so long as the knowledge of them exists so his only goal is to destroy that knowledge and go where the winds take him.
The best thing about these two is that the game itself doesn't try so hard to make you think they'll be together, yet it would make complete sense if they did. The reason she decides to join him so quickly is cause they went through the same crap. Excellent character interactions; makes it easier for a sequel to make that change more naturally
SPOILERS FOR SURVIVOR - - - - - - - - - - Several years later and after finishing Survivor, this was absolutely the right call. Their character chemistry feels so natural after what they've been through and not at all forced with cringey dialogue. Probably the best written romance in Star Wars.
You're not wrong, Mother Talzin created the Nightsisters with selective breeding with force sensitives. So if they had a kid it would be a Nightsister since Merrin is pretty strong in the force.
Man, so many TCW references. “Mother” = Talzin Armoured fighter brandishing a lightsaber = Grievous Some subtle references to Maul too, considering he’s Dathomiri and a Nightbrother
“Life has this funny way of forcing you on the path forward anyway”. There is incredible wisdom in those words. You can do it the hard way by avoiding your problems, being haunted by them and eventually being punished by the world until you change, or choose the easy path and make change yourself. It seem scary at first, but it’s much better in the long term.
How about no and for once have a fucking friendship instead of turning force users and witches into apes that need to find a significant other like every loser down the street? Thanks.
I actually wonder if they will be a thing cause in a interaction she brings up how she wanted to marry another nightsisters so that raises the question if she's lesbian,bi,or pan
Light Revaan Greivous and the CIS exterminated the nightsister clans in order to prevent Talzin and Ventress from becoming threats to Dooku and Palpatine. grievous does have armour on his cybernetics aswell.
Light Revaan um no, you’re so very wrong. There was literally a Clone Wars episode about this. Dooku orders Grievous to go destroy the Nightsisters. And he wipes them out with his Droid army. She’s stating a canonical event. Plus Vader has never been on Dathomir...
@Light Revaan there is literally nothing in canon that details Vader ever going to Dathomir for any reason. She is roughly Cal's age. That means she was a child during the Clone War. She says her people were massacred when she was a child, meaning it was in fact when Grievous attacked. And I'm sure that when you're that young, it would be easy to glance at Grievous and assume it's just someone wearing armor. But she's not wrong either. Grievous did have armour that was based off of the Kaleesh culture.
I love how she questions, but not undermines, his actions supported by his Jedi or conventionally heroic views. For example, he says something like how he "has to defeat the Empire by getting the list," then she goes, "okay, but won't you basically be doing what the Empire did with said list?" She provides the added perspective that helps justify his actions later on.
The mo-cap is so good in this game but I particularly like how they did Merrin. That 10:20 section looks amazing. What a neat character. I'm excited to see more of her in the inevitable sequel.
It was the right thing to do to destroy that holocron. Just 5 years removed from revenge of the sith, Cal and Cere were in no condition to rebuild the order since the empire was at the height of its power at that point in time. They'd have to wait at least another 12 years until rebuilding the order could be even considered with the formation of the rebel alliance.
She smells like fucking brimstone and hasn't showered in like ... ever. She has yellow teeth and is a crazy ass cultist with no real means in the world. Enough?
Fun fact. Night sisters are technically dark side users, who are able to resist falling down the sixth rabbit hole. I would love to see Merrin teach this to Cere in the sequel.
@@kimjunguny Merrin is not every Nightsister, so you can't be saying that either. Compare to other Dathomir Witches, Nightsisters are absolutely power hungry, they're just not as single minded as sorcerers.
@@mikhailthegreatestdragon3627 They are absolutely not power hungry. Ventress specifically explains to Quinlan Vos, who very much was a power hungry Jedi, that they do not allow the dark side to consume them like the Sith when they use it. Talzin was more powerful than Mace Windu and Palpatine and she wasn't even Force sensitive, they primarily use Magicks for their power and all they wanted was to be left alone.
Bruh, Cal might be working his way up to being one of my favorite Star Wars characters. It says a lot that he surrendered his only weapon to Merrin as a sign of peace. True Jedi.
Relationship status arguments aside can we just appreciate that the Night sister is the first person in this game to go "you guys sure you want to find these kids while the embodiment of death is hunting you?"
When Merrin mentions “an armoured warrior,” I could imagine hearing the cynical and sinister laughter of General Grievous followed by several of his trademark coughs.
Not that I've played this game yet, but I think Merrin might be one of my favorite characters. A female who isn't, shall we say, exploited or your typical damsel-in-distress, she has a fleshed-out backstory and makes you earn her trust rather than simply joining the party at the first opportunity. At the same time, though, the player gets glimpses of her power that makes one think, "Hmmm, glad she's on our side."
15:06 "I like your cut Greez." The ritual scene is my favorite of hers, her deadpan delivery that sounds completely serious and Greez clearly worrying. She's trying her best at humor and it's cute.
4:47 She is referring to General Grievous, the infamous commander and Jedi slaughterer of the Separatists attacking Dathomir in Clone Wars Season 4, Episode 19.
It seems like they upped it a notch when they did the motion capture for Merrin and it really helps along with the voice acting to make her stand out as a character. She is a fascinating one as well seeing she spent all those years tending to the bones of her Sisters and nurturing her hatred for the Jedi, although misguided, but decided to move forwards rather than remain in a past filled with pain, grief and hate. I hope we get some dlc with Merrin somewhere down the road!
Just to clarify at 4:34, Mersin is most definitely talking about Grievous. Facts: Merrin describes the warrior in armour, but due to her being a child, didn’t know that it was a robot. SW:TCL(The clone wars) Had a small thread of episodes including Asaji Ventress and the Nightsister clan fight against Dooku and Grievous’ droid army. Now some people would argue that it would be Vader but it wouldn’t and here’s why: Vader has never been to Dathomir, this takes place shortly after Order 66 and somewhere in SW: R(Rebels, although it may not have happened in this timeline) and lastly, if it was Vader, Merrin would’ve said that the blade was red, but keeps its description short and confirming it was blue when she saw it. All the evidence points to it being Grievous
Stryder Eternal This actually takes place way before Rebels, this is 5 years after Order 66 and Rebels is right before Rogue One and A New Hope, 19 years after Order 66. But you’re totally right about Grevious.
Sure Merrin’s facial animations were good, but HAVE YOU SEEN DARTH VADER? HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS WERE F**KING AMAZING! IT BLOWS EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE GAME OUT OF THE WATER!
1:35 It cant be Vader because she was still a kid so it was in the clone wars, the only one i know killing nightsisters in that periode was obviously grievous
Merrin: A sacrifice needed to make this ship undetected Greez: What sacrifice? Merrin: One of your arms will do nicely Greez: WHAT??!!! Merrin: Don’t be so serious Greez: Pheeewww... Merrin: I need two

Hope she is back in the sequel of this game.

Well I mean if there were to be a sequel then I hope she is part of the roster of characters y’know?
The best thing about these two is that the game itself doesn't try so hard to make you think they'll be together, yet it would make complete sense if they did. The reason she decides to join him so quickly is cause they went through the same crap. Excellent character interactions; makes it easier for a sequel to make that change more naturally

Several years later and after finishing Survivor, this was absolutely the right call. Their character chemistry feels so natural after what they've been through and not at all forced with cringey dialogue. Probably the best written romance in Star Wars.

“Life has this funny way of forcing you on the path forward anyway”. There is incredible wisdom in those words. 4:32 Reference to Grievous’s massacre in TCW?
Yep
@Light Revaan no. It's about Grievous
I do hope Merrin and Cal gain some sort of “relationship” in the Fallen Order Sequel.

Fun fact. Night sisters are technically dark side users, who are able to resist falling down the sixth rabbit hole. I would love to see Merrin teach this to Cere in the sequel.
Not technically, they are like new age Sith Sorcerers but better
@@mikhailthegreatestdragon3627 True merrin wants revenge, but never talks about power or anything like that, so they are different.
@@kimjunguny Merrin is not every Nightsister, so you can't be saying that either. Compare to other Dathomir Witches, Nightsisters are absolutely power hungry, they're just not as single minded as sorcerers.
Dark side of the force is a pathway to many opportunities that a sith would consider, unnatural
@@mikhailthegreatestdragon3627 They are absolutely not power hungry. Ventress specifically explains to Quinlan Vos, who very much was a power hungry Jedi, that they do not allow the dark side to consume them like the Sith when they use it. She was the best character so far. I hope that shes a bit playable in the next game and have a green magick saber like mother talzin.

3:12 the cutscene where Merrin goes full beast mode is both badass and scary af. Also, that bit of an echo at 3:14 is pretty dope.

When I written this I didn’t know there was already a comment on it
Cal: Now that’s how I met your mother, kids.
That awkward hug she gives is so adorable.
She was ready to pounce and didn't hesitate when she heard him walking lol. I sense something between these 2.
❤
And how she blushes afterwards
Just to clarify at 4:34, Mersin is most definitely talking about Grievous.
Facts: Merrin describes the warrior in armour, but due to her being a child, didn’t know that it was a robot. SW:TCL(The clone wars)
Had a small thread of episodes including Asaji Ventress and the Nightsister clan fight against Dooku and Grievous’ droid army.
Grievous is a cyborg
That and it literally fucking says in the databank it was grievous
