Am I one of the few who thinks Fallen Order and Survivor are perfectly equal to each other? Each game has its own strengths but I really don't feel like one is clearly better than the other.

5:14 Let’s not forget Merrin. … Nevermind, you spoke of her too. Personally, I think the way Cal got Merrin on their side is one of the most Jedi-things ever. Or at least, what a Jedi should be. Historically, their two fallen orders don’t really like each other. When they first meet, Cal tried to negotiate, but that’s cut short. Merrin is intent on stopping him, because of the lies Malicos had fed her. When the witches get raised from the dead, they’re both being hostile. But when Cal could really heals his trauma as much as he can, after his trip to Ilum, succeeded by his return to Dathomir (plus, you can hear force echo’s of Merrin), Cal immediately expresses kindness and understanding. He gives her his weapon. Making peace with your enemy and showing you mean no harm, letting her speak her mind and listening with care and understanding… That’s the compassion a Jedi should aspire to have. Although there was only a hint at a love story in FO, the game laid the groundwork for their relationship really well. This is probably my favourite enemies to lovers story arc. They have real chemistry and you can really understand why they would like each other and what makes them so close, even as friends.
I can remember the skepticism around this game before its launch. Being an EA product. The first gameplay we got had the lightsaber looking a bit weird. This incomplete trilogy has thus far been some of the best Disney Star Wars.
One of my favorite games of all time. The story is perfect and the atmosphere the game creates is amazing. The planets arent as expansive as survivor's but i liked their design way more.
I myself shouted "f-- you" at Vader when I thought he had killed BD1, a rare visceral reaction to narrative moment in a video game, particularly as I love Vader as a character. Nice to see I wasn't alone.
Imo outside of Koboh I liked the planets in Fallen Order over Survivor. I understand Koboh is basically multiple Fallen Order planets combined in terms of size and areas, but the planets in Fallen Order (Kashykk, Dathomir, Bogano, and Zeffo) is better than Jedda and the moon installation
I love the second game survivor, but truth be told I believe the first game is a bit better, because of how it handled the main villain and the Zeffo. My main issue with survivor is Bode(his reasons for staying “evil” in the end. At the end the empire wouldn’t be able to reach him and his family) and how the the story just drops the Zeffo stuff to the side(giving more attention to the high republic stuff).
I actually like bode staying evil because he infiltrated cals circle so what’s stopping someone else from doing it on a bigger operation (hidden path) and in the end Cal couldn’t promise that nothing would happen to Bodes daughter because he knows that you can’t guarantee safety with the empire.
@@hunternicholson9953 I never said I have a problem with him staying evil. Its his reasons that I have a problem with. Those were bad lines from both Cal & Bode Because he actually can guarantee that the empire won’t find that location without the device that leads to tanalor. Even if the empire tried to, any star cruiser would get blown apart. That’s a fact. Actually, I don’t think even Vader or the Emperor knows about this planet.
@@Steel-101 the problem is Cal was going to open Tanalor up to the hidden path. That means more then one ship would learn the way to Tanalor. The operation would grow bigger leading to more possible points of infiltration for spies. All it would take is the nav data from one of those ships to allow the empire fleet to find its way to Tanalor. Now Cal could take every precaution and maybe he does keep it safe but even he knows that if he gives it to the Hidden Path there is a chance they lose Tanalor. And Bode (like Anakin) can’t accept that chance.
I think there's a reasonable chance of the Empire finding Tanalorr, the Nihill found it after all. The planet is well hidden but eventually either someone gets captured and talks or the Empire starts noticing the amount of unusual activity in the system. An Inquisitor already killed Bode's wife so his fear is somewhat justified.
I think Bode was the embodiment of Anakin Skywalker in the game. Anakin fell out of fear of loosing Padme and his child(ren), none of them died prior to his becoming Darth Vader but it was the FEAR that led him to the path Bode had survived Order 66 AND watched his wife die. That is him seeing his family die 2 times. That's why he fully embraced the Dark Side - the death if Jedi and wife When he crumbled the walkway his daughter stood on to me that was the games way of saying "Bode fell to the Dark to save his family but it has fully taken over who he is, it is no longer to protect his love but for the love of power"
Also, I like how Ilum will become Starkiller Base but they down-play it. Merrin asks why Ilum is so important and Cal doesn’t know what the Empire’s planning…
I adore this game. When my brother got this game for Christmas, it was mostly just interesting. I revisited it in 2021, the story was very uplifting and helped me start getting out of complacency and depression. (He was dealing with that at the start of the game). The soundtrack and little spots of comedy, cuteness, and whimsy really break up the tension. Cal's pain, being uprooted, fear of opening up. fear of betrayal, and just general fear was relatable and not despite him being a guy. JFO was truly a pleasant surprise, I didn't know what to think about it when I saw posters in the game store, and now it has a special place in my heart.
Again I like game reviews that come later. Because by then you don’t let the first time high of the first playthrough make you biased. You can better acknowledge the good AND bad.
This was my intro to Star Wars. For me I never grew up watching Star Wars but I knew about it along with a few memes. I’ve never seen any of the movies aside from Rogue one and I don’t even remember it that much I just know it kinda sucked. But this game was on sale on steam for $4 once and I picked it up. I was hooked from start to finish. I tend to buy games and never finish them (I know bad) but this was one game I could not out down. Cal is my favorite character in the Star Wars series but also the only character he’s just that good to watch play his story. I didn’t catch any references or anything except for the ending with Vader and I remember gasping in excitement and such. Even when getting the double sided saber I actually was shouting out like “oh hell yeah”. Now i have survivor but I haven’t finished it or played it even as I haven’t had the time. But man fallen order was definitely the game that got me into Star Wars and I’ve been wanting to catch up on the movies and all. The gameplay for me was honestly really good as I’ve never really play a souls like game. It was simple but had some nice mechanics
I remember playing this last January after it was free on PlayStation plus with no real expectations and I was hooked immediately. It was refreshing with a game being this punishing and I really enjoyed how you just had to get good to complete it without lowering the difficulty and it really succeeded with the Star Wars atmosphere
I’m working on the platinum for this game right now, it continues to blow my mind with how good it is. The combat is more simple but still so fun and the planets are way more diverse and unique. Even after getting the platinum for Survivor I still think I’m having more fun with Fallen order
I genuinely thought this channel was one of those big accounts where it’s multiple people & you get different views on gaming. I’m glad I was wrong, I love how inclusive this channel is & how much time they put into making their videos the best it can be. Keep it up!
Though Im sure the fact that I have only played the second game once would influence my opinion, I didn't realize how much more vividly I remember the story of Fallen Order than Survivor until you mention it.
I would love to see a Star Wars: What If where Cal keeps the holocron and rebuilds the Order on Tanalorr. I’d be okay with them swooping in to save the day during Episode IX, too.
I remember playing this game twice on different difficulties seriously one of my favorite game ever. Respawn are a great developer of single player games, going to play titanfall 2 for the single player pretty soon.
I need more great story driven games like this, gow, uncharted, last of us, spiderman. Ive been searching for one of these games recently and im coming up short.
As a Star Wars fan who’s disillusioned with 90% of the content we’ve gotten since the acquisition I always take time to sing these two games praises to anyone who will listen. They are truly the best Star Wars stories we’ve gotten since the core 6 films and Clone Wars. Criminally underrated.
13:20 Id argue you can connect Merrins trauma to Cal, Trilla, and Malicos' trauma tbh. Sure, Greivous purged the Nightsisters about a year before Order 66, but its fundamentally a VERY similar event.
BD-1 was seriously “undermined” in Survivor. I kept forgetting that he was also a character until Cal would make a comment to him. In FO, BD-1 felt more present and alive. All my opinion, of course.
i agree. in Fallen Order u’d press a button and Cal would immediately check up on him. ofc they had to change that in Survivor for BD-1’s updates but i really missed this feature
The character development in Fallen Order was truly awesome, we didn’t really get the same treatment in survivor. However, Jedi survivor gameplay was also awesome.
I have a theory that mailicos was the one that killed Merrins sisters not General grievous since he was already dead, hear me out when he landed on dathomir he was younger because order 66 if cal was about 12 and now he’s maybe 18 or 19 in fo malicos was a Jedi and had a blue or green lightsaber and killed merrins bloodline when she was young and malicos Manipulated her to thinking that it was a Jedi since then the darkness took him and became a sith. Now you know 👍
Fallen Order is the better story and yet now with Survivor back I can’t go back and play Order due to there being no fast travel. It’s a weird complaint but man no fast travel in Order really hurts that game
the Vader is brilliant and much more than fan service Vader appears to remind us the real power hierarchy after we conquering the final boss also that means the Empire has begun to take Cal serious and the real hardship is ahead
True about the power hierarchy, Cal likely would’ve been a regular Jedi knight if the purge never happened, one of the 10,000 roaming the republic. The game masterfully reinforces how powerful and skilled regular Jedi are to regular fighters and soldiers outside of the main movie characters and lame Jedi extras that get killed in the background of attack of the clones so it props up the Jedi and reminds of how crazy powerful Vader is, he is the chosen one Cal can’t even come close to competing with
@@Robman0908agreed I even hated the force awakens bc it immediately resets the galaxy back to revels v empire. The blew up the new republics government like halfway through the movie and they never come up again. All Luke leia chewie and Han did to defeat the empire was for nothing.
Calling it now, cal dies fighting Vader. He finds tanalor somehow, or something, merrin dies, the only survivors are bd and maybe greez.but Cal's goal is achieved, because more importantly kata is alive too. Securing the Jedi's future, if only, for a little longer.
I know it technically isn’t but in my opinion this is the best souls-LIKE ever as it is a compilation of the best of the genre and truly best experienced on grand master.
I remember the time I used to play that game on XBOX One and now I play it on XBOX Series X and honestly Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order works well with XBOX Series X
Really enjoyed myself with this game, even though my gaming skills from the teen days are gone and I really sucked at this. Was bummed that Survivor was a PS5/PC only, until making sure just a bit ago and realizing it apparently IS on PS4, goddamit another game to my growing backlog...
Just got done beating it It's a pretty good game overall but has some big problems I give it a 7.5/10 I almost quit a few times when the game became boring/too annoying but i stuck it out I couldn't wait for it to be over honestly
Graphics have been figured out since like 2016 at the latest all games since have that baseline great quality in that aspect at least. RDR2 came out in 2018 and it’s still gorgeous.
I think it’s the same case with the Insomniac Spider-Man games. The first has a better story but the second has better gameplay. Though, in my opinion, both first games are barely better than their seconds. They are all really good.
@@dariusporter358 I understand your point of view on this one but I disagree on one point. First of all, I do agree that the first game fallen order is better when it comes to story(wasn’t crazy about Bode). But for Spiderman, despite some of the rushed portions of the story, I believe Spider-Man 2s story is a bit better for 3 reasons. For starters, MJ was infuriating in the first game. I’m not just talking about her missions. Mainly her reasons for breaking up with Peter and her selfish attitude through certain points in the story. I’m just sick of the unnecessary drama with her. Also it was really nice to see the family/brother bond between Peter and Harry(giving more drama in the venom fight). And finally the mentor/student(Plus Peter, being a big brother) relationship with miles. Really glad that Peter wasn’t killed off just to give Miles more attention like other stories.
I'm a bit cautious on the third game as the game director Stig Asmussen and many of the lead devs left Respawn for Stig Asmussen new studio Giant Skull.
I think respawn has really hit a great spot with these games. Fallen order was so fun and engaging with its story and characters. Survivor is fun for its exploration and gameplay. The story is good too, but it’s not as epic all the way through as fallen order was. Although, the ending of survivor is amazing. I love it and play it every six months just to get to that last chapter
One thing I personally really miss about Fallen Order's combat compared to Survivor is the ability to hold force attack and dash towards the enemy - specifically this plus the jump button. It made it feel more organic in gaining an advantage by placing Cal behind an enemy rather than having to employ the strategy of awkwardly waddling around them which in Survivor rarely worked, especially in one-on-one situations. While I did enjoy Survivor's evolution of the single blade and ultimately all of its lightsaber stances, the move which I feel replaces this (being block + attack) did feel far slower in wind up and less effective against enemies overall which caused me to rarely use it - although this is coming from someone who played both games on grandmaster so I am not sure if it is more effective on the lower difficulties.
Ironic, I just finished watching your survivor video when I saw this. This game is the definition of a surprise to be sure but a welcome one although I do think the sequel is better this one still pretty damn good. Every time I look at ashoka tano and cal kestis I just have to wonder was making Rey a good character really so hard?…
This game has better levels, villains and story than survivor. Though survivor succeeds in the gameplay side, better traversal, combat and Cal's character development was great. The plot in both games it takes a back seat for the characters and I'm not complaining.
This is a really good recap for Fallen Order. Just completed Survivor 100% in New Game+ and still want to replay it a third time. Purity Perk and Master Difficulty 🥲 Great games and I'm excited for a third Jedi Game
my pals and me brainstormed that the final trilla scene should have been Cal sacrificing himself to save her, and thus we would be have been playling Trilla in Survivor instead, as this may have been a more interesting way of progressing the story, and certainly mor eimpactfull
I played this game for the first time this past year, and it was a lot of fun. Pretty much my only issues were… 1) I personally prefer a different saber design than Cal’s, but I regret that I altered it so much on my first playthrough because I didn’t quite catch how linked it was to his master. My first New Game+, I ain’t touching that thing (and reading bios and such in the database more as I go, taking my time). 🤣 2) the final Trilla fight was tense, but as someone still getting the hang of the gameplay to a degree I feel like the lighting of the room made it hard to see the Unblockable signal. It made me adapt, and is ultimately a minor thing, But I struggled for a bit on that..
I really hope with the lead guy leaving from the 3rd game and has no idea the story direction that they don't ruin the what should be the best trilogy of star wars games weve had in such a long time
Bossfights especially against the in ones using lightsabers just felt better in Fallen Order. No gimmicks no blasters no stupid force fields of fear. It felt better imho.
Man, I played Fallen Order a few years ago and I did not like it one bit. It's just one of those games that you try out and can tell almost right away if you're gonna like it or not. Last week, I gave it another go, and I am gonna say that I absolutely love this game now lol For me, it's one of those rare games that you don't like at first, but then love once you give it enough time. I am more than half way to Platinum it on PS5 and already bought Survivor, and I am looking forward to the 3rd. Heck yeah 😎
Overall I love the story of the game it is difficult, I've played it like 6 times on grandmaster difficulty not to mention my other play throughs. I enjoy the 2 shot experience and the satisfying reward of beating a tough enemy. The story is amazing, the planets are all different with difficult exploration and diversity and they have meaning behind each one. I love this game!!!

An Inquisitor already killed Bode's wife so his fear is somewhat justified.
I think Bode was the embodiment of Anakin Skywalker in the game. Anakin fell out of fear of loosing Padme and his child(ren), none of them died prior to his becoming Darth Vader but it was the FEAR that led him to the path
Bode had survived Order 66 AND watched his wife die. That is him seeing his family die 2 times. That's why he fully embraced the Dark Side - the death if Jedi and wife
When he crumbled the walkway his daughter stood on to me that was the games way of saying "Bode fell to the Dark to save his family but it has fully taken over who he is, it is no longer to protect his love but for the love of power"
Lmao your Cal with the mullet and handlebar mustache. I laughed out loud and woke up my wife lmao
Again I like game reviews that come later. Because by then you don’t let the first time high of the first playthrough make you biased. You can better acknowledge the good AND bad.
This is my favorite star wars game. I've beat it ten times, and it was great every time
This was my intro to Star Wars.
Respawn are a great developer of single player games, going to play titanfall 2 for the single player pretty soon.
bro finally dropped again. pls dont stop
Yessir! Love this game. The sequel is one of my favorite games of all time though. Keep up the good work dude!
Guys Fallen Order had the story, Survivor had the gameplay, now they need to combine them for a masterful Jedi III
Great great video, loved your thesis, just subscribed and now looking for more vids
Yeah, he definitely got a smaller part in Survivor. Hopefully, he has more to do in the third game
Bd 1 single handedly made fallen order 30% better
Game would suc without him
The character development in Fallen Order was truly awesome, we didn’t really get the same treatment in survivor. However, Jedi survivor gameplay was also awesome.
Pls don’t stop doing these type of videos
I did the platinum for this game a few months back and it was even more amazing then when I first played it
Though it's done in many games now, this was the first game I ever saw the characters being modeled to look like the actors playing them.
Why does this guy not have more subscribers bro
Bought it in 2024. Incredible game.
Amazing work and analysis. We as viewers have a responsibility to help this channel grow
Literally just 100% the game yesterday this is great timing
Love this! I started playing again about a week ago lol
Loved this game but I absolutely hated the transversal system. Getting that platinum was such a pain
One of the 2 favorite games of mine from last generations.
I have a theory that mailicos was the one that killed Merrins sisters not General grievous since he was already dead,
hear me out when he landed on dathomir he was younger because order 66 if cal was about 12 and now he’s maybe 18 or 19 in fo malicos was a Jedi and had a blue or green lightsaber and killed merrins bloodline when she was young and malicos
Manipulated her to thinking that it was a Jedi since then the darkness took him and became a sith. Now you know 👍
Excellent video, well constructed. Subscribed! 😊
Malicos gave me Joruus C'baoth vibes at first. It would have been fascinating to see him continue in the series.
"Take a drink every time he says trauma" challenge: impossible
Fallen Order is the better story and yet now with Survivor back I can’t go back and play Order due to there being no fast travel. It’s a weird complaint but man no fast travel in Order really hurts that game
Yeah fallen order had some major issues
I couldn't wait to finish it
Never again
Fantastic Analysis and Video my dude!
the Vader is brilliant and much more than fan service
Vader appears to remind us the real power hierarchy after we conquering the final boss
also that means the Empire has begun to take Cal serious and the real hardship is ahead
True about the power hierarchy, Cal likely would’ve been a regular Jedi knight if the purge never happened, one of the 10,000 roaming the republic. The game masterfully reinforces how powerful and skilled regular Jedi are to regular fighters and soldiers outside of the main movie characters and lame Jedi extras that get killed in the background of attack of the clones so it props up the Jedi and reminds of how crazy powerful Vader is, he is the chosen one Cal can’t even come close to competing with
Well it is very sad that Disney pretty much proved Malicos 16:35 right: the Jedi Order had no future as Rey stands as the last Jedi
Frustrating that anything taking place from post episode 3 to episode 6 is all for nothing.
So you're okay with luke rebuilding the order but not rey?
@@mor3gan285 I went with movies only so I did not even know Rey rebuilt the Order
@@Robman0908agreed I even hated the force awakens bc it immediately resets the galaxy back to revels v empire. The blew up the new republics government like halfway through the movie and they never come up again. All Luke leia chewie and Han did to defeat the empire was for nothing.
Man, I still haven't played survivor yet, I wanna replay this one though
The inquisitors were great to see in a SW game. Cutscenes were gorgeous and plot top notch.
Calling it now, cal dies fighting Vader. He finds tanalor somehow, or something, merrin dies, the only survivors are bd and maybe greez.but Cal's goal is achieved, because more importantly kata is alive too. Securing the Jedi's future, if only, for a little longer.
Merrin needs to breed first
I replayed it on the highest difficulty about a year ago, and the most frustrating part was still the puzzles
I really liked Fallen Order
But i grew to love Survivor, it's SUCH a great game
I know it technically isn’t but in my opinion this is the best souls-LIKE ever as it is a compilation of the best of the genre and truly best experienced on grand master.
How on earth could you enjoy this game on GM??
That's crazee talk
The combat/controls are so awkward
One problem with survivor was i didnt really care about the high republic vs fallen order which can be seen as a self contained story
I remember the time I used to play that game on XBOX One and now I play it on XBOX Series X and honestly Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order works well with XBOX Series X
The map on this game was horrific
I accualy played Fallen Order after five years. For the first time. And 28:44 Malicos is easy. Idk what yall smoking, but it's easy.
Great watch 🙏🏿
Really enjoyed myself with this game, even though my gaming skills from the teen days are gone and I really sucked at this. Was bummed that Survivor was a PS5/PC only, until making sure just a bit ago and realizing it apparently IS on PS4, goddamit another game to my growing backlog...
I’ve seen the sequel trilogy, Cal’s decision to trust in the force to resolve it leads to terrible results. Great game though
Just got done beating it
It's a pretty good game overall but has some big problems
I give it a 7.5/10
I almost quit a few times when the game became boring/too annoying but i stuck it out
I couldn't wait for it to be over honestly
Next one you should do, the god of war 2018 and even maybe ragnarok
I just played this game for the first time and honestly im surprised at how good it looks for a game that came out in 2019
2019 isn't that long ago dude..
@@JesusChrist2000BCI agree with Jesus Christ 2000BC.
2019 was one year before COVID.
Graphics have been figured out since like 2016 at the latest all games since have that baseline great quality in that aspect at least. RDR2 came out in 2018 and it’s still gorgeous.
We need either a tv series or movie of kal I don’t care that it will be a Disney film I think kal deserves one
Unpopular opinion: Order > Survivor
I agree
I think it’s the same case with the Insomniac Spider-Man games. The first has a better story but the second has better gameplay. Though, in my opinion, both first games are barely better than their seconds. They are all really good.
I thought unpopular opinions were supposed to be unpopular.
@@SplendidSuperman122 Thats because it is
@@dariusporter358 I understand your point of view on this one but I disagree on one point.
I only came back and played this after survivor. This is an excellent game. Hard to believe EA had anything to do with it
I'm a bit cautious on the third game as the game director Stig Asmussen and many of the lead devs left Respawn for Stig Asmussen new studio Giant Skull.
Dude this game is no fun at higher difficulties lol
And i rarely say that about ANY game
Ironic, I just finished watching your survivor video when I saw this. This game is the definition of a surprise to be sure but a welcome one although I do think the sequel is better this one still pretty damn good. Every time I look at ashoka tano and cal kestis I just have to wonder was making Rey a good character really so hard?…
banger as always sir🫡
Malicos is one of the best Star Wars characters to ever come out of a video game.
The best Star Wars anything since Empire, in my humble opinion.
Dude no way lmfao
I personally never had any issues with the map
BD-1 is my favourite 🥰
This game has better levels, villains and story than survivor.
Though survivor succeeds in the gameplay side, better traversal, combat and Cal's character development was great.
The plot in both games it takes a back seat for the characters and I'm not complaining.
The levels suc in FO lmfao
This is a really good recap for Fallen Order. Just completed Survivor 100% in New Game+ and still want to replay it a third time. Purity Perk and Master Difficulty 🥲
Great games and I'm excited for a third Jedi Game
I found Trilla being more difficult to beat than Malicos.
my pals and me brainstormed that the final trilla scene should have been Cal sacrificing himself to save her, and thus we would be have been playling Trilla in Survivor instead, as this may have been a more interesting way of progressing the story, and certainly mor eimpactfull
🤮🤮🤮🤮. That's so bad, glad you had no say...
Ha dude that's ridiculous
You want to play a chic that badly??? Lmfao
Ok you've got to be mad to say malicost or oggdo boggdo is the hardest boss when I got 2 shot by trilla in grandmaster with her wild attack combos
I really hope with the lead guy leaving from the 3rd game and has no idea the story direction that they don't ruin the what should be the best trilogy of star wars games weve had in such a long time
I think the story of Fallen Order is amazing and the lightsaber combat is great. All other aspects of the game are pretty mediocre though.
Bossfights especially against the in ones using lightsabers just felt better in Fallen Order. No gimmicks no blasters no stupid force fields of fear. It felt better imho.
The fact that malikos is kinda proven right and luke doesnt learn from the previous jedi order when building his own really leaves a sour taste
Man, I played Fallen Order a few years ago and I did not like it one bit. It's just one of those games that you try out and can tell almost right away if you're gonna like it or not.
Last week, I gave it another go, and I am gonna say that I absolutely love this game now lol
For me, it's one of those rare games that you don't like at first, but then love once you give it enough time.
Doesn't Merrin even come up as a child in the one Clone Wars Episode where Grievous slaughters the night sisters?
Quickest 5 years of all time
