Kentaro Miura, who has been depicting the adventures of Guts and his friends, passed away on May 6. He was 54 years old. Kentaro Miura passed away before the adventures of Guts and his friends were finished. We pray for his soul rest in peace.
Susumu Hirasawa, the composer of Forces, had this to say. "Mr. Miura no longer needs to occupy a physical space to exist. From now on, we will be able to discuss our concerns. Let's do it in our brains to the fullest, without worrying about time or space. Mr. Miura. Once again, I look forward to working with you in the future."
I've thought about this a lot and I've come to the conclusion that I'm really not sure what kind of ending I'd truly consider satisfying. Revenge of Griffith? Restoring Casca's mind? The destruction of the God Hand? All of those seem too simple and straightforward for the series. I see Berserk having a more ambiguous ending. Right now, I'd just be satisfied to get more backstory on the Skull Knight.
I agree but the problem is that the animation studio would need a HUUUGE budget to do justice to the Manga & it's incredible art. Personally I'd still be happy with just decent animation that adapts the series perfectly from the Golden Age arc & THEN the Black Swordsman arc (I think this way is a lot more impactful to new readers/viewers than showing the Black Swordsman arc first, even though it's how Kentaro released it.)
Problem is, it's just too big. Berserk is an epic written over the course of 28 years. All you can do is take a chunk of it at a time. Even a long time running anime would probably cost too much time and money to accurately produce.

He has always clung to life by fighting, even if it meant using his teeth to block, grab, or swing a sword. He has came from nothing to becoming the greatest from again, sheer will, unlike Giffith. Griffith uses an army at his disposal to get to the top while Guts does it himself. He is story is the definition of an underdog. That's why I love Berserk.
As I'm watching this I'm in tears. I'm a grown ass man and I'm literally crying. I've seen this edit like thousand times but this time it hit differently. Berserk manga helped me during my toughest times and helped me out of depression. Rip Miura, I hope people get inspired by your masterpiece and makes more amazing content.

Gut's is one of the few people i can tolerate wielding a weapon of that size because of how bulky and built he is, i get annoyed seeing little wimpy guys wielding oversized weapons. You could argue that he is too badass...
Say what you want about the movies, they are good for introducing people to the manga. I wouldn't even know about Berserk if not for the movies and now I read the manga.

+John Johnson I found the original anime was much better for character development, but the movies were great for their more epic depictions of the battles (wonders of CGI vs. practical limits of hand-drawn animation, esp in the 90s when every frame was hand-PAINTED on celluloid) as well as the introduction of the Skull Knight. Watching the 1997 series first and then the films was the best possible viewing experience imo haha

Griffith never cared about Casca. He didn't want her as a wife or anything. She just so happened to be useful to his cause. So in the scene where he rapes her, it's not because of jealousy. It's not because of love. It's not what he wanted. He just wanted to see Guts the man that ruined his dream suffer. But in the end. Who is really gonna suffer. Something I remember during the 100 man battle. Is that Guts mentioned his sword had become extremely dull so you best hope you die on the first hit. After fighting his way to Griffith Guts is gonna have a blunted Dragonslayer, and Griffith is gonna suffer far worse than Casca or Guts.

It's weird to me that the music from a series about a big dude who slices people in half with a giant sword hits me with such powerful and diverse emotions. I nearly tear up when the first chorus hits, this song is so powerful.

I always saw Guts as a character who always fights for life and happiness, who always looked for light being surrounded by darkness, whatever the circumstances or dangers, that's a lesson which all should learn and it breaks my heart that the genius behind it has just passed away. They hunted "dumb" animals using tactics and numbers. However humans often fight badass opponents like eldritch horrors, demons, undead, and super advanced aliens. And sometimes they triumph. If anything Humans are Sueish or overrated in fiction.
Just finished vol 23 and holy shit i've never had a love/hate relationship with a character as much as Griffith, he's helping people and letting them reunite with their lost families but he fucking through his comrades into literal hell for the sake of power. GOD FUCKING DAMN IT GRIFFITH.

I saw berserk so many years ago and loved it and I always wondered why they never continued the anime. I saw the movie remakes of the series and got totally sucked in again. I don't understand why so many people have a problem with the new trilogy, and I also think the 2d/3d style looked fluid and awesome! I just want more Berserk, bring it on!
they hate the CGI and one guess for why Berserk isn't on was, despite the obvious demand, it's a very dark manga to make into an anime, i'm not sure what reactions those "critics" gave it at the end of the series but perhaps now that things have changed with shows like Game of Thrones, Spartacus what not, they decided to finally continue, hopefully no backlash for the content.
Forces is one those songs no matter how many times I hear it or hear it remixed I can never stop getting board of it even when my brain is rotting it's one of the few tracks that I think is so timeless in the way it gets you so hyped.
The movies truly are cinematic masterpieces that do Berserk 100% justice AT VERY SPECIFIC MOMENTS. It pains me how far they stray from the original story in other places.
a part of me thinks that whats going to happen is that somehow guts berserker armor will make him so strong and crazy that he will overpower griffith and get him tied down somehow and rape charlotte in front of griffith like he did with casca...it would be messed up, but considering how messed up and dark miura can be...its a possiblity...

well, knowing how good anime is at plot twists, it could happen. i mean look at naruto. the animation usually sucks and things seem to drag on but i cant name a series that has any plot twists as hard to predict as narutos. thats just an example. i mean, back in the days when the eclipse first hit the mangas im sure everyone was like "oh my gosh no!!!" or at least maybe they thought that guts would do the stereotype hero thing and be able to break free and save casca before griffith even got his thing in her but he didnt. he was forced to just watch the entire thing...
SPOILER Just finished it.I found the ending pretty ridiculous.I really don't think Griffith planned on being the Dark Lord Of Mordor,he wanted to be a good king that everyone would follow.He just got broken after he was tortured for over a year,makes sense.I realize that wasn't the end of the manga,but they really should have done a better job for the anime.Also the whole Caska rape thing was way too morbid.

I really, really don't think Griffith wanted to be the king of sunshine and rainbows, as evident by the various assassination plots and using Princess Charlotte to increase his status. More than that, he doesn't just want to be a king, he wants to be THE king. Everyone should follow him and help him reach his goals. And then Guts happened. Guts leaving is what really broke Griffith. Call it the world's most damning misunderstanding, but Griffith's ego couldn't deal with Guts leaving and not wanting to follow his dream. Casca's rape was pure revenge with enormous ramifications. It's actually much, much worse in the comic (to be fair, a lot of Berserk is much, much worse in the comic, but for the better, if that makes sense). I highly recommend reading the comics from the beginning. The movies are cool but barely scratch the story's surface.

+John Johnson I found the original anime was much better for character development, but the movies were great for their more epic depictions of the battles (wonders of CGI vs. practical limits of hand-drawn animation, esp in the 90s when every frame was hand-PAINTED on celluloid) as well as the introduction of the Skull Knight.
Watching the 1997 series first and then the films was the best possible viewing experience imo haha

Griffith never cared about Casca. He didn't want her as a wife or anything. She just so happened to be useful to his cause. So in the scene where he rapes her, it's not because of jealousy. It's not because of love. It's not what he wanted. He just wanted to see Guts the man that ruined his dream suffer. But in the end. Who is really gonna suffer. Something I remember during the 100 man battle. Is that Guts mentioned his sword had become extremely dull so you best hope you die on the first hit. After fighting his way to Griffith Guts is gonna have a blunted Dragonslayer, and Griffith is gonna suffer far worse than Casca or Guts.
Don't forget the old blacksmith in the forest repairs his sword a few times.....remember?

Gatts is easily the manliest character that I witness in any manga/anime ever. You feel the strength of the blade swinging even if it's only a static drawing, it is amazing. The character is a beast!

They hunted "dumb" animals using tactics and numbers. However humans often fight badass opponents like eldritch horrors, demons, undead, and super advanced aliens. And sometimes they triumph. If anything Humans are Sueish or overrated in fiction.
Just finished vol 23 and holy shit i've never had a love/hate relationship with a character as much as Griffith, he's helping people and letting them reunite with their lost families but he fucking through his comrades into literal hell for the sake of power.

To find such loyal and good friends once is very lucky but twice is no short of a miracle, perhaps it was the universe balancing the scales for the had he had been dealt. Most never make such good friends once, but he got to make them twice.

This is what started my enjoyment of anime. Berserk way back when I was like 11. I still love massive swords and own a few mock ups that weigh a ton.

I saw berserk so many years ago and loved it and I always wondered why they never continued the anime.
I saw the movie remakes of the series and got totally sucked in again.
I don't understand why so many people have a problem with the new trilogy, and I also think the 2d/3d style looked fluid and awesome!

i guess the hate comes from bandwagon CG hate out of lately rather than clearly bad or out pf place lol
they hate the CGI and one guess for why Berserk isn't on was, despite the obvious demand, it's a very dark manga to make into an anime, i'm not sure what reactions those "critics" gave it at the end of the series but perhaps now that things have changed with shows like Game of Thrones, Spartacus what not, they decided to finally continue, hopefully no backlash for the content.
Forces is one those songs no matter how many times I hear it or hear it remixed I can never stop getting board of it even when my brain is rotting it's one of the few tracks that I think is so timeless in the way it gets you so hyped.

a part of me thinks that whats going to happen is that somehow guts berserker armor will make him so strong and crazy that he will overpower griffith and get him tied down somehow and rape charlotte in front of griffith like he did with casca...it would be messed up, but considering how messed up and dark miura can be...its a possiblity...

well, knowing how good anime is at plot twists, it could happen. i mean look at naruto. the animation usually sucks and things seem to drag on but i cant name a series that has any plot twists as hard to predict as narutos. thats just an example. i mean, back in the days when the eclipse first hit the mangas im sure everyone was like "oh my gosh no!!!" or at least maybe they thought that guts would do the stereotype hero thing and be able to break free and save casca before griffith even got his thing in her but he didnt. he was forced to just watch the entire thing...
SPOILER Just finished it.I found the ending pretty ridiculous.I really don't think Griffith planned on being the Dark Lord Of Mordor,he wanted to be a good king that everyone would follow.He just got broken after he was tortured for over a year,makes sense.I realize that wasn't the end of the manga,but they really should have done a better job for the anime.Also the whole Caska rape thing was way too morbid.

The movies do a pretty poor job of properly developing the characters and their motifs. I really, really don't think Griffith wanted to be the king of sunshine and rainbows, as evident by the various assassination plots and using Princess Charlotte to increase his status. More than that, he doesn't just want to be a king, he wants to be THE king. Everyone should follow him and help him reach his goals.
And then Guts happened. Guts leaving is what really broke Griffith. Call it the world's most damning misunderstanding, but Griffith's ego couldn't deal with Guts leaving and not wanting to follow his dream.
Casca's rape was pure revenge with enormous ramifications. It's actually much, much worse in the comic (to be fair, a lot of Berserk is much, much worse in the comic, but for the better, if that makes sense).
I highly recommend reading the comics from the beginning. The movies are cool but barely scratch the story's surface.
Rest in Peace Miura. You gave a really great manga. Absolutely worth reading even if incomplete.
