Holy cats. I really love your sense of humor. And what great production! How on EARTH do you not have hundreds of thousands more subs? Well, you have one more. Great production (oh, and the idea is cool, too.)
only a few min into the video and I love the vibes and production quality you got going on here! Such great creativity breaking up what a typical YT video is. I'm a fan!
Dude this is such a great video! I'm a designer and the way you spoke about all of it really cracked me up, really funny while still bringing a lot of value! I'm a designer trying to branch into photography so fun to see someone do the reverse!
@@chrisdacanha I’m really having troubles coming up with a way to tell a story with my photos. I believe it comes down to me overthinking it and trying to make things too “perfect”. Almost like I’m trying to overcompensate because I’m “actually a designer, not a photographer”. Any thoughts to help push through that wall?
I've experienced something similar! I'd recommend trying to keep in focus what's important to you. If you're aiming for more literal storytelling, ask yourself if the images are communicating the idea effectively. Would someone seeing them for the first time understand them more or less accurately? If you prefer something more vague, show some pictures to a friend or two and see how they react. Do they feel something similar to what you hope they will? If they don't, what could you tweak to encourage the effect on them you hoped for? As for perfection, I try to remind myself everything I make will be imperfect, but I'll use what I learned making it to improve. This is true for photos themselves, and photo projects. With time I'm sure you'll find a groove that works for you!
Perfect Sunday morning watching Chris. Impressive quality. Again. Do make sure to let me know when you're joining the lady to one of the meetings, happy to tag along!
Amazing video. I’m glad I found it (you) in this ocean filled with trivial content. Yours makes a difference, makes it worthwhile to spend time on it, and makes me want to create. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, seriously been waiting for this kind of video. Most videos are not this in depth. Most ppl skip talking about the process.... They just give steps. So I appreciate this so much! Been trying to make a zine of my own work for about 6 months but haven't yet... Lol
with this video quality i expected your channel to have at least 10x the subs. i have a few zines still waiting to be printed out (procrastination is a bih), but they're made in Google Slides lmao. your video has been very helpful for both the process and motivation. thanks a bunch!
i saw the teaser for this video on instagram and am glad i came around! looks fantastic and gave me some inspiration for the next semester of information design :)
Very informative Chris! Thanks. I’m inspired. Just one question: Where can I get a copy? All your links send me to zines and photography, I can’t find 화광신문 anywhere
Thank you! I’m a working photographer, mostly in fashion and occasionally some editorial. I work freelance but I’ve built a relationship with a few companies so work is relatively consistent~
Hey Chris, really inspired to make some prints now! I also really love the layout on your personal website - I was wondering what service did you use to build it?
If you're measuring in inches I think 1800px X 2700px at 300ppi should work for full bleed. But you can save yourself the guesswork by exporting the largest possible image from your editing software then resizing in InDesign.
Hi Chris! i'm creating a zine for the first time but i can't get my head around how to save it into a PDF with all the pages i have (28 front and back). Is there a specific way i should do it? I created the zine with Photoshop
Hey Jack~ I don’t think I’ve ever produced a PDF from Photoshop personally, but I think you’ll want to first save each image/page as a JPG. Then you can use the automate feature, namely automate PDF Presentation. Select ‘multi page’ and it should be straightforward from there!
Finally, someone who didn't "get a graphic designer" to do the most important job: designing the damn thing! Thanks so much for this.
It was a challenge but I feel better off for taking it on!
Excellent work Chris! You put more work into creating the 'how to' than most people making the zine - thus creating a first class product. Champion.
That’s an incredibly kind thing to say, thank you. Super encouraging:-)
I loved the grunge editing style in this. Feels fresh 🫧
Thank u this is so clear! I'm excited to go out and shoot and make my first zine

beautiful work mate - what work do you do to support yourself to work abroad in some place like korea ?
Thank you for looking! I use Squarespace for my site~ I just used one of their premade layouts and tweaked it a bit. Was pretty easy to set up!
Great job! I have a question. I am working on my first Zine but I don't know what size my picture should be for my 6 by 8 1/2 Zine. Any suggestions?
