    I love how everything goes for zines, and you emphasise that SO WELL, Thank you! I have made three zines, inspired by you. I’m an older person (64) and I’m thinking about starting a class at my local library called Geezer-Zines. Zines taught to people who are older and itching to find a creative outlet and means of self expression. You helped me SO MUCH to get into this art form! Thanks

    I love the idea of using a coloring sheet as a background in a zine. Thats a great idea! I have loads of unused coloring books lol. I pick them up thinking I am going to use them and they sit there.

    I just made another zine and I was worrying about the edges of the paper being white but your pep talk about print quality not being the biggest issue inspired me! Also I used the free software GIMP for making this one digitally and it was great for layering images! (It’s not necessarily super intuitive though)

    • @brattyxbre
      @brattyxbre  2 місяці тому

      The edges of my paper print out white too! I just cut them off myself, but it’s ok if they’re there. I see LOTS of zines like that and it adds to their charm 🥰
      Also thank you for sharing what you know! I’ll have to check GIMP out. Happy zine making!!

    Great video! Thanks for sharing the advice at the end, about being inspired rather than intimidated by other people's zines. I feel the same! As a photoshop alternative I highly recommend Gimp (free + open source!) and as an indesign alternative Scribus (also free + open source + maybe even more user-friendly) or even Libre Office (you can make pdfs with this alternative for Ms Office too). But to be honest I prefer making my zine by hand / directly on paper / analog as well.

      and a little warning for any adobe products: when you use them, you give them permission to use your work for AI so another reason to go for open source alternatives!

    100% agree that a bonefolder is essential. I just don't know why it is the one thing I always lose. Most of the time I have to use an alternative, my favorites are my library card and the side of scissors, because I can't find the bonefolder. Thanks for all of the great info and inspiration 🤩

    If you don't have a photo printer like the one shown in the video, you can take a chance at Walmart for printing photos. At least my local Walmart has a section near the electronics section for printing photos. I've printed my photos from my phone's camera at those kiosks and they came out wonderfully! (EDIT) Also, maybe your local pharmacy has a photo printing kiosk, too.
