- My commercial Husqvarna MZT52 zero turn mower failed at around 100 hours and the support I received was less than ideal! Find a dealer and company that regularly go ABOVE & BEYOND to take care of the customer. I have talked with the owner of Ball Equipment and he definitely wants to make this situation right and make sure that it doesn't happen to anyone else at his dealership. I have never been able to actually speak to a person at Husqvarna. I also share a lot of information I learned from the comments section of my mower video. I made a lot of mistakes throughout this process and I will be sharing some of them and what I have learned to hopefully help others have a much better buying experience. I truly appreciate all of the support and feedback! I will ask though that unless you have actually dealt with Ball Equipment you refrain from leaving Google reviews or calling them about the video as they are aware of it and the owner is addressing it. The employee I dealt with does not even work at that location anymore.
I've got a Ferris and find it to be an excellent machine. My dealer also has an excellent relationship with Ferris. I had reached out to Ferris to find out when the next build was scheduled for the machine I wanted -- none were in inventory anywhere in the northeast except for a dealer demo a couple hundred miles away. Ferris indicated that they had a production run coming up soon... When I was in the dealership the manager told me that the Ferris rep told him there was a guy who really wanted that specific model... The dealer knew it was me and this communication chain enhanced my confidence in the brand. Four of those machines came in one morning and were sold before lunch the same day. Guys were waiting for them... My name was on one of them.
It is interesting to note that the Ferris mowers are delivered in reusable steel crating instead of throw away wood and cardboard boxes... The zip lock bag with the manuals is exceptionally strong and reusable. The machine ships with extra nuts that replace the factory installed nuts that are removed for assembly of the controls, etc. They aren't messing around!

Check out Collinsville power equipment in Farmington Ct. I just purchase 3100 series. Mark has many in stock.
I got to talk to a Scag engineer a few years ago. We got the first model year of the Tiger Cat II right when it was released. Ended up breaking hydro belts every 50 to 80 hours (we average 400hrs per year on each machine). Dealt with that for a year and a half. Dealer gave us 2 belts at a time so we always had one on hand free of charge. Scag finally figured out what was going on with the first batch of machines. The frame jig was slightly out of alignment. A scag engineer called me to talk about it in depth which was really cool. Scag sent a new frame to the dealer and a week later we had our machine back and never had another hydro belt issue. While the dealer had our machine they loaned us a Toro commercial 60" so we weren't without a machine to use. Love our dealer here in maryland, Rippeon equipment in gaithersburg and westminster. We are just a small company yet they still gave us a loaner. Had the same salesman for 30 years now (Matt). After over 40yrs in business, scag velocity + deck is by far the best deck we've ever cut with and we've used just about all of them.
BTW our Ferris FZ60 has those same 3400 hydros with i guess around 800 hours on it now. Just serviced them this spring actually with amsoil hydro fluid and oe filters. You have been told lies about the hydros. Many commercial machines come with the integrated hydro gear units now days. Our Gravely 460's both had ZT-5400 which is the big daddy of the integrated trans axles. One benefit is no cross contamination when something fails. You just got unlucky honestly. Really really unlucky.

I worked at a landscaping company for 20 years running a mowing crew. We always used Scag equipment and it was absolutely the best in my opinion. There were rarely any issues. I have one now that I use on my property and it is a more resin version but it is still a tough well built unit
We checked out the Scag mowers and they are well built for sure.

I tried getting a new snapper pro (a Ferris without the suspension but at $8500 with icd deck and 5400 hydros) but just found out they no longer make them and the simplicity line. Just Ferris now and the Ferris equivalent to the old snapper only has 3200 hydros ☹️ The snappers were a damn good value
I do want to look at the Ferris mowers.
I had the opposite experience with a mower. I bought a Toro zero turn from Forrester Equipment in Woodstock VA. About an hour into the first mowing, the belt broke. I called Forrester, who sent a tech to my house to fix the belt. I was back to mowing in less than an hour. No charge. Forrester Equipment has a customer for life!
That is the type of dealer we are looking to work with for our next purchase. A dealer like that will not only keep you as a customer, but gain customers through recommendations.
Spartan makes great zero turns. I spoke with someone from the company before purchasing and the Welcome kit that they sent me had direct telephone numbers in it. Very pleased after 2 years.

I too had a Husqvarna rider, transaxle leak, at 100 hrs, was 1yr old, it was covered under warranty, the second yr, the same issue, I was told it was not under warranty only being two yrs old, had it repaired, it's now leaking again, Stay away from Husqvarna, and the tuff torq. K46 transaxle, they are pure trash, I got rid of it after the 3rd leak in 5 yrs,it was well taken care of, and it wasn't driven hard,lesson learned,,things aren't built to last anymore

As a past employee of a small engine dealer. When your getting ready to buy your next better mower make the dealer work for you. Meaning asking to demo a unit first. Feel it out see if it's for you. Their are many different brands and each one offers something different, but as I always tell customers. Do your research and write a list of what you want your mower or tractor to do for you.

I was looking at a 12 thousand dollar rig. I asked for a demo. They said I could drive it around their parking lot. I said I needed to operate it in regular conditions for about 20 minutes and then I wanted to see how cleaning out the deck was going to be. They said that wasn't going to happen. At that point I decided I didn't need anything from them. I've still got my 12 thousand dollars too.

Heath I don't own a lawnmower (live in the desert so no grass) but what you said about documenting everything is spot on. All the issues I've had with my house fire has had me not only saving every text but I have a notebook with dates and times and who I spoke to written down, in this day and age you have to to keep your butt covered

WOW! Glad I got my John DeereZ325E ZTrak 54 inch cut from Lowes. Warranty didn't start until first day of delivery. After a few weeks had a steering issue. Lowes picked up the unit and ended up swapping out for a new mower within 2 weeks authorized by John Deere. Warranty (3 year) started over from new delivery date. Had found that John Deere 3 year warranty and Lowes 3 year warranty have a few different perks; in this case having the Lowes extra 3 year warranty was the key in really speeding up our process. Got a follow up not just from Lowes BUT John Deere rep as well and we live out in the country and move 3 1/2 acres. Thanks for your video.

I am glad you are getting your situation resolved. I have the commercial grade Husqvarna more. The good thing with is the dealer support we have here. They take care of there customers after they sell you the product..

Hey Heath. In the last ten years or so I’ve had 4 bad boy 72 inch mowers. Well built strong mowers. My dealer went out of business a couple years ago. So last year I bought a 72 inch Ferris. Great mower. Rides like a Cadillac. I bought another last month. I really like the Ferris. They ain’t cheap. But ya get what ya pay for. Best of luck on your mower.
Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been thrashed around in heavy equipment over 45 years and was more than happy to pay the price of admission for my 2200. Nice ride and great cutting results. As mentioned, you get what you pay for. 👍👍🇺🇸

Bought a Deer z530r mower a week ago and have used it a couple times. It has the comfort glide seat standard. My yard is 2 acres and not smooth at all. I’m amazed at the comfort and build of this thing. It was pricey at $ 6500 but I’m well satisfied. Best of luck with your mower. I’ve learned through years of experience with farm equipment that anything with that green paint is expensive, but with the customer service and reliability it’s worth it.

I have a very used older Exmark and when I call Exmark directly they always answer and are very helpful I’m going to buy a new Lazer Z next year.
Exmark is the standard of the industry. You can’t buy better.
Eye-watering price. But it will outlive cheaper mowers.
Yes mine is a 2002 with an oil burning Kohler I might swap it out with a Kawasaki if possible…it just cuts so well even with a 23.5hp motor with a 60” deck.

But I wouldn’t have any problem buying one of their bigger EFI motors.
Kawasaki is my favorite though. Two cylinder.

A very good video, you covered this very well, in the past I've been burned because I didn't pay attention to warranties or went with verbal agreements and never documented anything. A person needs to document everything now.😊

I just commented on your other video. I must admit when I was looking at mowers, a Husky was not on my list. I did purchase a Cub Cadet just because of the price and reviews. Most people really like theirs. I ordered it online and got it for a crazy cheap price. It's been good, but with so many options I can't help but wonder if I made the right choice. Guess if I have problems with it, I can always sell it and buy a Bad Boy or Gravely Arians,etc. But for now I like it and like yourself went with the Kawasaki engine. I think they are the best choice.Guess you learned a lesson about doing your research. I think we can all relate to that. You give a lot of good information in this video and should be a must watch for anyone looking into purchasing a new mower. Good luck and thank you for your honesty.

@hardworkingmanoutdoors opinions are split about Cub Cadet mowers. I read all the replies on tons of mower videos, and one thing stood out to me. The people that actually own them, like them. I'm sure it will be fine. I just let negative comments get in my head. I have owned it for around a year, and I must say I like it also. I guess that's the bottom line. You need to be happy with it.

I can definitely recommend a Ferris mower. I picked up my ISX 800 and, being an engineer, it is truly an engineer's machine. The design is exceedingly well done. Very controllable, awesome comfort (3 hours on bumpy ground and my chronic back never complained), bulletproof, and incredibly easy to clean and maintain. I was amazed how it never bogged down cutting 2 ft high May grass, including the adjacent clippings, leaving a 5-inch cut track that was almost perfect.
I visited three dealers within an hour of me. I went with the one that didn't try to upsell me or wasn't very organized when getting me a simple quote, and the one with the most positive reviews. A small, family-owned business that responds immediately and takes time to explain how each OEM works, or not, with them.

Excellent point about checking out your dealer. JD dealers more interested in brand loyalty than customer satisfaction. Now days service is optional, everybody wants your money and a “like” but don’t want to put any effort into doing the job. Always keep a paper trail for your own protection.
People must have really bad luck.with JD dealers. I own several green tractors and implements and have never had a bad experience with a dealer.
I'll be a lot more aware and cautious with my next purchase!

I’ve ran a Ferris 1S2100Z. It’s been trouble free, got it in 2020 brand new currently it has 190hrs of hard use mowing acreages. The ride is excellent the only thing to watch out for is the vanguard engine has burned oil since brand new. The oil guard system helps but this one doesn’t have it. Would definitely recommend

If a nice cushy ride is a factor, do not try out an ISX 2200 Ferris. They are a bit pricey but well worth it . If You try one, you will want nothing else, don’t say I didn’t warn Ya! 😅😅👍. Thanks for the update.

We bought 5 acres and are building a house. I just purchased a Bad Boy Rogue 61” with Kawasaki FX-1000V. Already mowed once with it. Thing is a beast!

Heath, great video for folks shopping for a mower, or any type of outdoor power equipment. I've had my Husqvarna ZT for 12 years (approx.. 380 hrs) and it finally sprung a leak on the crankcase gasket that I'm repairing right now. Other than that, it has been great mower. I've had the opportunity to operate several brands of ZT mowers, and if money were no object, Kubota (ZD series) or Scag would be my choice. Where I lived in SC, the most common commercial mowers were Scag, Kubota, Dixie Chopper, Exmark & Grasshopper. In the North, I see a lot of Ferris, Hustler along with Exmark and Scag. But most of these mowers are bouncing around the $10K price tag...which is more than I'm willing to spend for residential.

Several years ago I was going in the lawn mowing business and I decided that I was not going to cheap out so I went to the John Deere dealer locally. I could have gone other places and saved money but I said no I'm going to go where they're going to take good care of me.... within 2 months they closed their doors and I was right back where I started. No, didn't see that coming.😅

Great videos. I have 3 acres to mow and had a good running home owner level Cub Cadet zero turn 54” deck but the suspension was non existent and I had to stop to refuel the tank before running out for 3 acres. This was two years ago.
Wanted to upgrade and wanted suspension for my back and neck and a price I can afford. $5000 was my budget and didn’t think I would find what owned but did. Went to a great city over Midwest Equipment that sold great Ferris mowers.
Looked them over and the Ferris 3300 model was built like a tank but way out of my budget for $18000. It was their top of the line. I wanted a commercial built mower that for me to last my 3 acres for 20 plus years with always doing basic maintenance myself and dealer hydros oil changes and being on top of it.
So started looking for a used Ferris zero turns and towards the end of summer another nearby city John Deere dealer had a used Ferris 3100z big block that had documented 250 hrs and was a 2012 model year and one owner. Thats right 250 hours for at the time a 10 year old Ferris zero turn. They had the paperwork, current dealer service and the last owner bought a new JD tractor tor his property. He used the Ferris for fine tuning the grass around his house and the tractor for the rest. They why the low hours.
Anyhow the JD dealer wanted $5500 for the Ferris and I offered $4000. They agreed to $4500 and it’s been two years later now and haven’t had one issue. This Ferris 3100 z is built like a tank with suspension that’s unbelievable smooth and I added the suspension seat to have twice the suspension. I change my oil, sharpen my blades twice during season, the Ferris has dual gas tanks and I can mow my 3 acres with one tank, switch to other tank for next time mowing and need to top off both tanks for next mowing. Compared to refueling Cadet for only one mow.
So I would recommend a low hour used commercial mower if you can done one. That’s the hard part.
Wow, you got an awesome deal on that mower. We looked at Ferris and they do look like really well built and extremely comfortable machines. I agree $18,000 is a bit out of my reach right now but if I could find a deal like you got, I would jump on it!
I bought an Exmark Radius 48" cut. It is made of very heavy gauge steel and I bought the upgraded seat for comfort. Clarksville Equipment is my dealer and their service has been excellent. I bought this mower after looking at a John Deere, Cub Cadet, Kubota and SCAG all from dealers. No box store mowers for me.

You can get a hold of Yakta too and they do their best to get the new part to your door within 24 hours!!
I used a Snapper Z-rider, 22 hp Kohler, 72”. Used when I bought it, great well built machine, mowed 3 very hilly acres for 18 years.
The BIG problem the EATON hydros, OBSOLETE and no parts available.
Looking at Scag Turf Tiger , Bad Boy, Bobcat, Exmark.Tora.
We looked at a lot of of those same brands and there are some awesome mowers available. We’ve visited dealers, driven mowers, etc., and will be debuting our new mower soon it is awesome.
I responded to your last video and crickets. I really do have the same unit and love it, like your buddy and I have property similar to yours. For most people the criteria are 1 Price point for entry level commercial, 2 get the best engine and transmission and a fabricated welded together deck. 3 Warranty and dealer. I would challenge anyone to say they ever spoke directly to lets say GE, Maytag, Ford, GM, Toyota etc... That all goes through a reputable dealer. I have never needed warranty work on mine so I have to believe you on that.
I chose mine as you chose this on the entry commercial is better than Residential. The trans axles are serviceable, and Kawasaki is a highly rated engine. Solid deck etc. Yes, you can go up in price, but you are correct you will most likely still get a Hydro Gear axle. Even Scag uses them. I got books on all 3 as separate warranty's with mine. Engine, Trans and Husky components, chassis.
Good luck with the next purchase, I fully agree to educate one's self. I don't need a 4000 hour mower warranty so I didn't spend 20 grand either. I do about 100 hours a year at most using mine. If I was going to do that I'd buy a Steiner unit with attachments.

@@hardworkingmanoutdoors I have heard Badboy is excellent. Here in Ohio Trctor supply sells, but through a dealer you can get a better one. Probably 12 grand though with Kawasaki not a Vanguard. ( Briggs)
Ferris are the Cadillac of mowers,lots,of money but the old saying you get what you pay for says a lot.I commented in your last video that I mow about three acres with an ISX800,61 in deck. Works great and no problems at all at 158 hrs so far.

Good information. I hope you make more videos about your Mower, situation and solution. Personally, so far I’ve had a very good interaction with my dealership when purchasing my Bad Boy Mower. I personally have not reached out to Bad Boy manufacturing, but I haven’t had to. So far I love my mower for what I am using it for.

I have a 16 year old JD tractor style mower with AWS. It is air cooled. Well over 1k hours with zero hydro issues. It is used hard. Change the oil once per year and sharpen the blades twice per year .

I had the same experience with a JD self-propelled walk behind. That model didn't have good luck with the transmission. I couldn't get JD to stand behind the machine. I haven't bought a JD product since (30 years ago).
It’s definitely frustrating. One bad experience like that with a dealer, not standing behind a product as all it takes sometimes to lose a customer and probably several other customers forever.

I was a teacher and never made much money and always bought used, small riding mowers. About 10 years ago I broke down and finally bought a new, what I thought was a nice riding mower. I got a 26 HP, 54" Husqvarna and it was nice. In less than 2 years, I was mowing, and the axel broke. It didn't even outlast the battery. Husqvarna would not fix it and to this day I have not been able to talk to anyone from Husqvarna. At the same time, I was having a problem with one of their saws. I used Husky saws for years. After this situation I will not own anything from Husqvarna. Once you buy anything from Husqvarna you will NEVER get any help from them. I now run Echo saws and Have a John Deere mower.
My buddy had a similar experience on his riding husky. It's a shame such a well known company won't stand behind their products!
My old Husky 372 XP has been a fantastic chainsaw! Their new Husky chainsaws are junk by comparison! Husky is doomed as they have brought this on themselves!!!! BYE FOREVER!!!!!

I bought a Bad Boy Maverick HD 60" earlier this year, so far so good. Good dealer support was promised, we'll see. It was 3-4k more than the Husky at my local hardware store but I'm hoping the dealer support will make the difference over the long haul.

Good day. I am a workshop manager at a store in South Africa. We are well known is SA to misuse power products. One brand that really stands out above the rest when referring to durability is without a doubt GRASSHOPPER.
Appreciate the input, Grasshopper definitely seems to be a great machine and quality company.
Most professional landscaping companies I see use Toro!! Thats why I bought one and have had it for 4 years 0 issues and cut 4 acres of grass. I would definitely go the Toro route next time 🙂

I have a smaller husqvarna zero turn. Grandpa bought it brand new in 2008, its almost at a 1000 hrs and still runs like a top. I've had a husqvarna awd push mower for 5 years and still starts on the first pull. I also had a standard riding tractor from husqvarna. I am normally not a brand person but me and family have had nothing but great experiences with husqvarna. Also get it serviced by the same small mom and pop shop every spring.

Before buying zero turns or any ride ons, check the engine details, wheel motor make and model and mower spindles, you can research all these components and what other brands use these components….then you can read them brands and reviews from pro landscapers. Thanks for an excellent video 👍🏾

I know you have already made a purchase, but I would like to put my hat in the ring and say Ariens makes lovely little mowers. I have a 42" Edge, and its a tough mower for a small residential mower. more well built than most ones its size, while being made of high quality materials. It cuts well and can do a lot for their base line mower, and their commercial mowers look great as well. On top of that, I have yet to have an issue with service work, which though is mostly due to the dealer, the dealer and I both seem to enjoy Ariens service and how quick they are to respond when they are needed. Now, TBF, the edge does ride rough since it doesnt have any suspension beyond some spring seats, nor any casters -the 52' model does-, and a few other small issues, but most of it is due to it being their cheaper model, whereas their more expensive ones have these features, and seem to be well reviewed as well. On top of that, they are assembled in Wisconsin, so you know it was made somewhere where they care about the product.
That is some good info. I have heard a lot of positive comments on both Ariens and Gravely mowers and a lot of my friends have them. Thank you.

Interesting, for my needs I get a couple of old rider mowers that don't run, cobble up a frankenstein mower and get it done. My favorite engine? The old B&S opposed twin.
I grew up picking up fixer uppers and getting what I could out of them with my dad.
I got a new Arians Ikon last year mainly because of the deck and the engine and they make Gravely mower also, I mow a cemetery 2 acres. I got from a dealer that sells John Deere, Toro, Arians, Gravely and are one of the biggest sellers in the state. Second mower I got from them

Thank you for this/these videos. I'll be in a position to be looking for a good (buy it once) more for our homestead project in the next year or so. Reliability, durability and support are king in my book. I'm willing to spend more if it is truly worth the cost for a better piece of equipment over the long term.
I am in the same boat. I am currently doing a lot of research into brands and dealers and will be posting some follow up videos with what I find out.
The Wright Stander zero turn is the premier mower. I am totally impressed with wright.
I looked at Wright mowers the other day. They do look nice.
I used to own a Lesco commercial grade z-turn. It was flawless, but I still grew tired of mowing so I got a Luba 5000 robotic mower for my 1.2 acre yard. I am beyond satisfied with my purchase. It mows the lawn every couple of days and keeps my lawn looking constantly freshly cut with nice diamond patterns.

We have a John Deere Ztrack 950. It's 5yrs old now. It has well over 300hrs on it and it still runs like it is brand new. We bought it from a local dealer and they have been good to us. They actually called 6 months after we bought the mower just to see how things were going and to let us know that the first oil change was due and it was covered.

I bought a 2013 Ford Escape brand new from a dealer. Fourth time I did that. Although I got excellent customer service, this new model design had Lemon Law worthy recalls. I even bought an extended warranty!
I had planned tondruve itnuntilnthe wheels fell off, but with 156,000 miles, Indin't think I will be able to last 200,000 miles without major repairs.
NEVER buy a new model the first year it comes out. Wait until the third year so they can work the bugs out.
Happy with my Toro Timecuter SS 4235 that I bought used for $1400. Just added a Cub Cadet XG1 GT50" to my collection. Purchased it used for $950. Spent $750 fixing it up, plus a new battery, and I think it will last as long as my Toro.
New models can definitely have issues. Glad you had a good dealer.

Dealers like that shouldn’t be in business, I’ve struck the same problem with Stihl and Husqvarna.

It's a good video in my situation I had a tendency to trust in a dealer it's my first time buying from a dealer also I was considering a purchase of a lawn tractor to replace zero mower mostly because of the ride and thinking about a Husqvarna riding mower but now

My buddy was set on a badboy then he decided on spartan mower and I convinced him to look at other brands and we compared my old kubota z421 60 mower, my new deere Z760r mower, and bobcat 6000 mower. He got a great deal on the bobcat zt6000. It was new and 2 years old and the dealer needed it gone. 3yr or 3000hr warranty. My deere Z760r came with bumper to bumper 4yr or 1000hr warranty.

Yeah, i know that experience to buy something from a dealer to have a friend who can help, ended up proven your are innocent but convicted guilty.
Yeah, there are lots of type of equipment, but it's always costly, sometimes way more than you would expect, like Ventrac brand for example. It's an industry grade tractor, with an array of a fine attachments, but pricetag is a kill.

I’ve had a couple Husqvarna commercial trimmers, one for over 10 years, with no issues. But I run Scag Tiger Cat II zero turn and have been very happy.

I recently had a bad experience with a sales rep at a Sthil dealership. I'm also from Michigan as well lol. Anyway I bought a MS180C compact 16in chainsaw from the true value in Pinckney and the salesman there was great. He was respectful and concerned about finding a saw that was right for me. He also let me test out the saw before I bought it and threw in some premium 2 stroke and bar and chain oil as well as a free 2 year warranty. He also said if I had any problems to bring it back to the store or any other store that carries Sthil. The next day a realized the saw I bought was just too small for me so I went to the Hartland Rural King since it was closer just to see if I could exchange it for a larger model. I walked up to the salesman in the Sthil department and asked if I could make the exchange and said I understood if they couldn't help me since it wasn't the store I bought it from. The guy just looked at me like I was stupid and said "That's not my problem" then walked away. After putting the saw back in the car, I walked back in to the same guy and asked if I could just buy the saw I wanted and return the first saw to the original store I bought it from. (The reason I wanted to buy the bigger saw at Rural King was because they had a much larger selection of saws than true value and the saw I wanted was bigger than the largest saw true value sold). They guy just said "yeah" and walked over to the saw section. I then told him that the saw I had was too small and I needed something like a farm boss as I pointed to an MS271. The salesman told me he didn't think that the 271 was big enough and then recommended I buy the largest professional saw they carried which was an MS661 at 1600 dollars. I immediately told him I only had a budget of 550 bucks and insisted the 271 was just fine only for him to tell me that thar saw was out of stock. I thought this was weird because I was looking right at the saw I wanted but just assumed it was the display model. He then said that the MS291 was in stock which was 700 dollars and that it was the largest farm saw you could buy before you got into the professional grade saws. After looking it over I decided to get it but instead of walking to the back to get my saw he grabbed the display model and started walking to the front. I asked him Isn't that the display model? To which he replied "No all the saws we have on display are what we have" After I paid for this massive saw he told me I couldn't return it for a refund and if I had any mechanical issues or defects I had to buy a 2 year protection plan for an additional 100 dollars. I'd also like to mention that I didn't get to try the saw out which Sthil says is mandatory when buying any products from them to ensure it works properly. I'm an introvert and don't like confrontation so I just drove home with both saws. However later I decided that I couldn't let this slide so I called Rural King and told the manager everything that happened and they were extremely apologetic and assured me they would make it right. So I drove back to the store and showed them the receipt for the saw and warranty plan. They refunded me for the warranty plan but let me keep it and also let me have the 291 for the price of the 271 I wanted to buy. So It worked out in the end.
Oh wow, what a bad experience at Rural King. I'm so glad the manager made it better in the end. I hate hearing stories with bad customer service like this.
You made an excellent video at the perfect time for me. I personally just today wrapped up a poor experience with Scag and a dealer. A lot of you went through I went through. Some my fault, some not.
I was sold a new 2021 SFC 21 walk behind last year, which was wrong. I should have been sold a 2023 model. Unknown to me, that model had at least one major recall to the drive system. So add one more to your expansive list: check the manufacture date, and then see if anything is a known problem! If the mower has sat for awhile, don't buy unless it's a current model.
I had the mower taken in last fall to have the issue corrected, thinking I went to get ahead of this before it gets worse beau the mower was already acting up. Last month the belt was burning up and had a chuck missing. Not good. Scag has never reached out to me, my dealer has been solid but not outstanding, and communication should be better. No way a mower for $2500 be be costing me money right now, but just did. And it's been one month being in the shop. Not even a year in yet on ownership!!
So, without rambling too much, you are far from alone. Sometimes it's in our control and other times it's not. Dealers can be very iffy and companies are very fickle with what they cover and don't. Your experience is far to common and the money lost by the customer is understated. I know I can't pay out large repair bills when I shouldn't be, especially if a person is being responsible and following the manual.

Sorry you've had a similar experience! When you put up the amount of money it costs to buy one of these machines, you have reasonable expectations of longevity. It shouldn't be this hard to have issues repaired or defective machines replaced. Companies should stand behind their product.
@@hardworkingmanoutdoors couldn't have said it better or agree more. I even asked, in emails, if I could speak to the company or even get a replacement. Nope. Got it back last week at a $223 repair bill and not a year old yet. On top of being sold a dated machine with known issues. No more in the future for me. I definitely excepted longevity from an American made company and certainly thought they'd stand behind it. I was wrong. But, I could be an isolated case too.. so I won't say 'don't buy' because I have had plenty of bad luck here to last few years.
After buying aToro zero turn at first i loved it but now after multiple problems I wouldn’t buy another! I want a commercial Scag I want to mow not work on it. You never know till you buy something!
This is so true, I was in the same boat. I have heard a lot of good things about Toro, but I have heard a fair amount of negative as well. Scagg is on the top of my list for my next mower. Along with a few others.
You done alot of research over what happen to your mower and alot of people learned alot from this I say. Warranty does not always work the way we think it's going to like buying it in the off season,s which reduces months of it there like you said. Other things you mentioned. Lot of your time went into this situation but hopefully your next buy will have good reviews and better luck. All the best to you bud.

i bought a bad boy zero turn about 12 years ago cost about what you paid and i have not had any issues. im not promoting any brand but i recommend talking to a small motor repair shop for there thoughts on a good zero turn. good luck sorry about your troubles.
Been on the fence between Husqvarna, Cub Cadet and John Deere coming from a 2006-2007 Troybilt Pony bought used from a dealer. Discovered Cub Cadet is not MTD and Husqvarna had also been bought out. Between this video, and other points, I am done buying Husqvarna as a company. I’m still deciding, but learning John Deere. Thanks for your video!

My current rider is a John Deere x739. I’ve had a Kubota 326d commercial zero turn. Both companies make “fairly” inexpensive options; especially lower end JD models carried by Lowe’s etc. My rider isn’t lower end and costs 3 or 4 times as much as what’s offered at box stores. I bought it in 2017 at zero percent interest and just checked: I owe $298 lol. It’s been a fantastic mower for me. However, since you’re wanting a zero turn, I can’t help beyond the model mentioned.

We picked up a Bad Boy and a Yakta. I didn’t get a chance to check out the Grasshoppers but have heard great things about them.
Ya I'm On my 3rd zero turn from 2016 till now first was a hustler which got in a trade which had 6 months good home owner mower traded it in got $1000 for it got a Kubota 421 new was$ 7500 without the trade in with the hydro 3600 54in cut sold it in 2021 with 267hours now I have a gravely 252

Warranty are big thing with me longer the better so far only have 95hours on my gravely and love it throws the grass far away from u and don't bogg down until u get into the knee high bahia grass we have here in east tx but if u go slow around the 5mph it's fine but for a 27hp it's great alot of the bigger hp mowers do some thing but u just got take your time and it be fine
I just sold my kubota kommander pro z421 60cut. Had 269hrs and only replaced blades. I went to john deere to get more hp and a bagger system. The z700 series's kubota mower cost more than than the mower and bagger system from john deere for a Z760r 60 cut. That's really the only reason I got the deere.

I have owned a lot of mowers over the years as I run a small mowing company and the worst one I ever had was a Husqvarna "commercial" grade mower. The pos had something break almost every time I used it.

I bought a Toro self propelled walk behind at a big box store, check the oil every time I use it, and the piston rod bolts lost torque, and threw rod at the beginning of the second season.The manufacturer and the big box store refused to stand behind it.
The one time I didn’t buy from a dealer that I always use!
In my research, for a new lawnmower, I ended up buying a Toro 30" self propelled from a dealer. I found that the model #s are slightly different between the seemingly same mowers that are sold in the box stores than the dealerships. There's more than 1 reason why the box stores sell cheaper.

John Deere 9 series. I’ve had a 915b for 10 years I bought new and am currently waiting on my 970r fastback to show up. 62 hours into my ownership my dealer pulled into my yard unannounced with a trailer. “Justin, glad you’re home so I can tell you I’m taking your mower vs just stealing it”. (We get along well). Me, “why do you want to steal my mower Rick?” “Engines are giving us problems on some units so I’m just going to put a new one in for you.” Me, “I think it’s running fine.” Rick, “I’m taking your mower, it will be back in three days.” Me, “it’s in the shed.”
Now that’s service! Above and beyond and probably has a customer for life and a lot of referrals.

I bought a new Husqvarna Riding Mower and Weedeatwer from a local dealer. On the second mowing the rearend went out on the mower and the weedeater wouldn’t start I took both back to dealer . They fixed them . Then with in months the rearend went out again on the mower . And continued to have issues thru out the years now the engine and transmission are locked down . But weedeater still runs . I’ll never but another !!!

I have reached out to several as well as I will not buy a machine from a company. I cannot get a hold of moving forward. I feel it is important to be able to talk to a person if needed. Some thing I never thought about until I had my issues with the Husqvarna mower.

Specifically Toro Commercial/Exmark.
Toro residential is a separate company that compares to the worst.
Toro Professional, Scag, Ferris, Hustler, Walker, Wright are all great.
Cheap lawnmowers bleed you on repairs. Until you trade it in on a new crappy mower and start it all over again.

Great video, Dealers will always be dealers... There products are always the best.. Like you said its better to actually talk to the landscape companies and other people that use these mowers to get an accurate opinion.. Not people that make commission on selling them.

I watched the other video now. Hope fully you get things going your way. You hear a far amount of hydro troubles nowadays. Makes me wonder why ? You may remember that my hobbie is garden tractors. I have a number of garden tractors that are hydrostatic operated. All these tractors are older than you. My John Deere 140h3 is a 1970. 54 years old. Hydrostatic operated. Still working. It could break tomorrow. Hopefully not. But things today are not made as good as they once were. New cars. Known engine troubles. Why. Any way. Just a little rant I guess. I have a Red Max chainsaw, new last April. $900.00 dollars CA. Leaks bar oil bad. No help to get it fixed. Dealer says. All chainsaws leak bar oil. 🤷🏻♂️. He did try to fix it. Still leaked. I tryed fixing it still leaked. So it sits on a shelf. I should make a plague for it. Here lies the leakin beepin chainsaw 2023-2024. 🤭🤭

No, things are not made the same as they once were. Everything is disposable nowadays.
Well. As I commented in the other video, I find Husqvarna dealer service sorely lacking. In my opinion this is not only a reflection on the dealers, but on Husqvarna itself. I'm in my 70's now but will still repair everything myself when possible, because you just don't know who to trust these days. Way overpriced parts and crappy dealers. I used to always buy Husqvarna. That's come to a screeching halt. I will rebuild them as long as I can then and hope they all last until I'm gone or else buy another brand.
The newer Husqvarna equipment and support or lack of is sad.
Go with the mower brand that has the best most reputable dealer in your area and that is close to you

Great video. I have a Deere residential zero turn but desperately need an upgrade. Been looking and reading a lot. Leaning towards Bad Boy and Spartan. By me the dealers for both is great. My Deere dealer is amazing but the cost for what I need is way too high. That’s my turn off with another one. Thank you for sharing

My Simplified Citation has two pumps and two wheel motors. It's a 2007 and i just had my first hydro line blow after over 800 hours on it. They say that it is a commercial mower, but to me it is just a well built zero turn mower. Something that I have noticed though. It weighs 250 to 300 lbs more than anything at TSC, or Rual King. To me that says something right there. However, they stopped making them September of 2023.
I view hydro lines as general maintenance especially at 800 hours, that’s a good run. The heavier machines tend to ride a little smoother as well.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors Well the ride was another reason that I bought the Simplicity Citation. It has front and rear shocks on it. I tried a Bad Boy and a Gravely out before I bought it, and to me it had a better ride. I always change my hydro filter every year, and the motor oil when it starts to change color. A guy that has worked on Bobcat skid loaders and small engines for over 40 years told me that if you want a small engine to last, to change the oil as soon as it starts turning brown. He said that the brown is impurities like carbon or dirt in the oil.
@@Arnold-x6d I had not heard that before, I do run Amsoil and ethanol, free fuel and all of my equipment and believe that definitely helps as well.

When you go to a place like north center farm supply. You get a price from the owner if you need service you speak to the owner and if you need warranty you speak to the owners because they are the only ones who write you up. No passing it off to someone else lost in the shuffle.

They are located Nashville ,Arkansas (now moving to Brazil),my Husqvarna clutch fell out 1st year,beginning 2nd year bearing turned blue
