I actually visited a friend of mine in Aurora, Illinois back in 1998. Aurora looked absolutely nothing like the Aurora, Illinois featured in Wayne's World. I should have known that the movie was filmed in LA county. That's what I get for being naive. I absolutely love watching Kurt's videos. Please keep them coming.
Fun fact about the Cassell’s music: Cassell’s actually used to be in the San Fernando mall back in the 70’s. My dad grew up in that era and he remembers that very well. It was moved some time in the late 70's-early 80's.
I hope you'll do one for Wayne's World 2 as well. It be cool to see the abandoned doll factory Wayne and Garth moved into, the park WayneStock was held at, etc.
Growing up in San Fernando Ive been going to Cassell’s since I was a kid and that strat has been there since I can remember. I later met Tia Carrere in town too and just melted. This is one of my favorite ‘sfv’ movies!
Excellent video! Thank you! Filmed in August of '91 on the Paramount Backlot, Stage 10 (No longer there. Torn down to make way for the new Post Production Building. The plane scene was filmed inside Stage 1). It had a low budget compared to the big budget "All I Want for Christmas" starring Lauren Bacall filming in Stage 18, Stage 11, Zukor Building, all Avenue P and the New York backlot. Stage 10 was one of the smaller stages and housed the Wayne' World set, including the TV control room. Dana Carvey would practice his drum sets inside Scoring Stage M (No longer there. Demolished) which had yet to be remodeled. Most if not all the studio's attention was given to "All I Want for Christmas". Rob Lowe and Kurt Fuller, wearing nice dress shoes, trying to cross a soap filled Avenue P (Now Michael Bay) Soap was used to replicate snow during the "All I Want for Christmas" exterior street scenes. They never complained, but, unlike the Costumer, just laughed it off. Lorne Michaels (his west coast office was in the Dressing Room Building) would pop in from time to time. Studio employees and guests walking by the Mirth mobile parked in the alley by Stage 10 wondering "what the heck is this". On occasion, pizza and beer at wrap for the cast and crew. Some of the scenes that never made the final cut were pretty funny. I hope they put them together for a "Behind the Scenes" some day. Thanks again for your research. Brought back many good memories!
I grew up in San Fernando and Sylmar and bought my first guitar at Cassell’s. Now I live in Illinois not far from the very Aurora, Illinois the movie is set in. It looks pretty much the same as it did in the early 2000s when I started going there. I joined my first band standing by the glass case by the entrance in 2003. Two brothers were just starting a band I overheard them and asked if they were looking for more people. That was pretty much my audition.
Why does this make me happy? It's like the perfect combination of something familiar & nostalgic combined with discovering a new place. What an awesome idea to do these videos. Party on!
I was there in Inglewood when they filmed that scene, I had some friends that lived in the area so we used to hang there.I got to see Wayne & Garth act these scenes out! 80s 4 life!!! 🎥🎞🎬
I am from Inglewood, and remember when they were shooting there. We would often take La Brea to the old Baldwin Hills cinema, on the other side of the oil fields, which is actually where they shot Beverly Hills Cop.
Amazing video man! I’ve seen a few Wayne’s world filming locations videos but none had the locations you had. Excellent man! That waterfall looks small! Never thought they used the Burbank pass for the me biggs scene haha
I thought same thing.. In the movie everything seems expansive and large but watching this the locations seem much smaller haha ex The donut shop and music store. Maybe just bc of camera locations or film rate stuff I have no idea about when making movies
I was just watching a Knight Rider commentary and the episodes filmed in Covina! Turbo Boosted right across the street into that alley! Excellent ;) video!!
Garth's house has new editions, but it's the same house. Slowing down your footage and watching the fade into the remodel puts it into perspective. You were almost spot on with your before and after! Those two windows at the back of the B side of the house are still there and the garage is now a front instead of side entrance.
I was a freshman in high school when Wayne's World was released in the spring of 92. Living in Northwest Indiana about 80 miles from Aurora. One Friday night some buddies and I took a road trip to Aurora hoping we would find some of the filming locations still naive to the fact most of Wayne's World was filmed in California
As a Chicago native who now resides in Wayne's home town of Aurora, it's amusing how so much of the film is recognizable as California because Chicago and Aurora look nothing like Los Angeles. 😄 Nearly all the Chicago stuff is just B-roll drive by shots of recognizable places, plus they do a lot of night shooting and never show the LA mountains in the distance. The plant life is also a huge giveaway they're nowhere near Illinois. Excellent sleuthing work to track down all these locations!
New to your channel but I love what I've seen so far. I did bump into Tia Carrere back in 1996 in waikiki (she's from Honolulu) on seaside ave when she was inside a golf hop thats now gone. I talked to her for a minute & I got her autograph. She wrote "party on, Tia". Ironically it was next door to the Waikiki twins theater that I saw Wayne's world 2 just a couple years before.
Excellent video. I live 5 minutes from where the big cars on a spike used to be as seen in the background shots as they were driving around in the opening scene. Berwyn, IL. It made it through the 80s, 90, 00s up to 2008. A guy made a repo of it at a toy show using matchbox cars....
Actually according to all the records, that building was built in 1926. I believe it is the same building and had just been altered from time to time over the years.
Great location video of one of my favorite movies. I used to buy my guitar strings from Cassell's because it was only a block and a half away from where I lived.
I grew up in Aurora Illinois, and everyone from here always wishes there were more landmarks from the film locally/ semi locally besides that stack of cars from back in the day. Great video🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@Schush for real, NORTHGATE plaza. WOOP WOOP! I can't believe that sign is still kicking, such a classic. The thrift and dollar in that strip is one of the best thrift stores around here. 🙏🏻

I am from Inglewood! I remember them shooting the restaurant scene there. We would pass it when my folks would take us to visit family friends that lived on La Brea, right before you hit Slauson. I grew up on S. Osage, literally one block over from the Forum. I can confirm that the restaurant did actually look the way looks like in the movie, but like the music store in Covina, all the signage was for the film.
It's pretty funny for those who don't know, Stan Makita was a player for the Chicago Blackhawks and has the restaurant Stan Mikita's Donuts in this movie is a spoof of the Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons. Tim Horton was a hockey player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, which Mike Myers is (or was) a fan of.
Good stuff man. I just moved from Northridge, still alot of stuff I didn't get to see or didn't think about like this movie. Also, didn't know til now that was Mike myers and TED was the "master of disguise guy" lol.
I had to do a project where we had to take photos that replicate stills from a movie. And I chose Wayne’s World, and then found out I live like 10 mins away from several locations. I never realized how many times I had driven by Cassel’s without noticing it was _the_ shop. I’ve been in it once now lol.
Please may you do filming locations then and now on: My Science Project, Spies Like Us, Airplane 1 & 2, The Golden Child, Coming To America, All Of Me, The Man With Two Brains, Roxanne, Planes Trains & Automobiles, Cocoon 1 & 2, The Twilight Zone Movie and Dark Night Of The Scarecrow
I won an ebay auction and they offered local pick up in San Fernando (blown 18" Cerwin Vega woofer - I repair em). I come down was blown away. As a huge fan of the movie, no idea I stepped into the actual Cassell's. This was about 15 years ago. Place never changes....
Fun fact: Gasworks was an actual hard rock/heavy metal club in Toronto that Mike Myers probably frequented. It eventually became a Starbucks and unfortunately it recently closed due to the pandemic.
i believe in the theaters he actually does play the first three cords of Stairway to Heaven. but they changed it for the home video release. the reason why is because Led Zeppelin songs are very expensive and they couldnt afford to put it into the movie.
