  • Hey guys! Today I am bringing you a Byredo House Review! I’m hoping this is helpful for anyone interested in these fragrances, and that this serves as a bit of a buying guide for you. I tested 26 Byredo perfumes and these are my thoughts 😁.
    By the way, I wanted to mention, when looking up the notes on the official Byredo website under the “notes” section, it doesn’t always include all of the notes. When you look at the description of the perfume, it will sometimes claim that it includes other notes, but they won’t be listed under the notes section. For example, De Los Santos lists notes of clary sage, mirabelle, orris, ciste oil, musks, ambroxan, and palo santo under the notes section. But under the description for that perfume, it additionally lists incense and iris. When formulating the note list for each of these perfumes, I looked at both the note list and description section to provide the most accurate information for you guys. I hope everything looks good, I did my best. xx

    Can i just say: HATS OFF for how thorough these house reviews are. I mean i remember the xerjoff one, just the amount of scents you go through and we can tell youve tested on paper, on skin, taken notes... just: thank you & hats off! Thoroughly enjoyed your takes. I've been circling Byredo like a nervous, nailbiting vulture for several years now & haven't taken the plunge because of the risky price points. However, I've got my little starter list scrawled down now thanks to your animated, impassioned & relatable impressions. Here we go... x

    • @beekneed
      @beekneed Рік тому

      And by the way, if you or anyone else happen to see this year-late comment...I just heard for the first time of "decant" perfumes being one way to reduce $ outlay for something you're not totally sure you love. Is this something you ask someone at the counter about? It's not the same thing as a discounted tester, is it? Maybe someone can enlighten me...I did look it up but am still not sure what the deal is. Thanks!

    • @katiejon17
      @katiejon17 Рік тому

      @@beekneed I believe the most common way to purchase decants is online, from other perfume people. eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, Etsy, etc. Some people will buy the $350 bottle, decant the entire thing, and sell the decants to make a profit (while we get the chance to try before we buy for less money). Others will buy the expensive bottle, decant & sell some of it to cut their costs. ***** Also - I cracked up at your description of a “circling Byredo like a nervous, nailbiting vulture” 🤣🤣🤣 Not enough people appreciate gems like this!

    Love your brutal honesty! Appreciate all the stuff about low performance, not worth the price and bad combinations of notes. I am Swedish and wish I loved Byredo, but I think the house as a whole is overhyped and not very good. There are some exceptionellt and you for me interested in going back to a few fragrances to try again. Sellier and Velvet Haze. Love cocoa and patchouli together. Have you smelled Cacao Porcelana? That is INCREDIBLE.

    Its funny to me how everyones nose /brain is different, and our chemistry… its the mystery magic sauce in fragrance to me that makes them so unique. I really love Mojave Ghost- just have a sample but I was craving it during the recent heat wave we had, triple digits… i guess i was craving it in the heat bc of it’s lightness, it reminds me of those Aloe drinks, like a juicy wet sweetness, fruity but not a super sweet fruit, more like a pear, or even some juicy veg like cactus/jicama, cucumber…. Cactus pear… starfruit… that sort of vibe to me. Which is exactly what I want in the hottest heat. Also, I work around food a lot, I was catering the day I wore it recently, so I wanted something pleasant that wouldn’t be too strong to bother or interfere with anyone else’s experience with their food, again it was brutally hot, i think its great for super hot weather, for work, food industry… summer…. 🤷‍♀️ yeah I find it super refreshing. I just wish it lasted a bit longer but i dont think its a bad thing when a frag becomes a skin scent :) 🤷‍♀️ anyway maybe its not the most “WOW” fragrance or complex, but I really love its sort of refreshing simplicity, think there’s definitely a time & place for that. 😉

    Im starting to really appreciate Byredo! They are interesting and not synthetic smelling. I'm wanting to try Mohave Ghost but the reviews sound very similar to some of their other perfumes. I have 2 samples of Bal D Afrique and they smell slightly different, especially the dry down. Im wondering, do you find different batches to vary slightly in smell? I got a small sample of Lil Fleur and was suprised! It's very pleasant and I didn't notice a heavy rose scent on my skin. I do not like rose dominant perfumes, either. I love Delina Exclusif but have to be in the mood for it 😂 I didn't like B'al D Afrique but now I absolutely am on the hunt for a big girl bottle..i think its the Cedar and wood in it that make it addictive

      "...some reviews are just brutal..."As much as I love this house and own currently 5 fragrances I'm totally with the 'brutal people' regarding the WEAK performance/PRICE issue with this house!!! I promised mysel fno more full bottles only travel sizes/decants' it's just not worth it! That's just my two cents...

    • @alepou200
      @alepou200 2 роки тому

      @@shmentuzon firstly I love your user name 😆 yes I don’t pay attention to the straight mean comments but a lot of constructive reviews report the weak performance for the price. And yes not every perfume needs to be a beast mode but I need to smell at least my own perfume and I overspray. I want to throw designers perfumes at the wall if they don’t have a decent longevity can’t imagine how I would feel about a niche/expensive perfume. So I think this house is not for me. Probably for the people who have sensitive noses and want something light. Would like to try just to see what the fuss is all about but even decants are kinda pricey.

    Puig bought Byredo, not L’Oréal. There was a media leak saying it was going to be L’Oréal however it ended up being Puig in the end. Hopefully, they won’t change too much. They own Penhaligon’s, L’artisan Parfumer, and CDG fragrances. Hopefully they have more integrity than L’Oréal.

    People often conflate longevity with sillage. Gypsy Water sits a little closer to the skin, but it stays on the skin for a long time. I applied a small amount last night (with one of those terrible stick applicators no less), slept, cooked, washed dishes, went about my day, and still smell that spot on my wrist this afternoon.

    Thank you for your honest videos na sharing your own personal perceptions in fragrancies! It’s important to hear people’s opinion, expertise that we can all, at least listen, and then compare to our own. At the end of the day, fragrancies are something that’s part of our own DNA… it has to do with each person’s skin, history, biological smell, mood, with seasons we are in, and many more… that’s so much more complex than we can think of! So, my advice here is, listen reviews because it’s important to listen to but most important is that at the end of the day, choose scents that you truly like and love it! And remember, there is something very instinctively built on us as part of our self preservation, that is to trust in your I sting and in what you like (specially when it comes to perfume) because if you don’t like a certain fragrance, it’s because it probably does not smell so good in your skin. But it can smell really good in some else’s skin, and that’s probably that person loves it.❤️

    I mix Tocca Collette with my moisturizer and/or use the Oil Perfumery GW dupe as a base for the OG Gypsy Water and it reaaally helps the longevity and projection.

    I'm just starting to explore the house of Byredo, and from the start honed in to two fragrances: Bal d'Afrique and Pulp. I found those two to be fantastic so I bought two full bottles. Bal d'Afrique was my #1 till I tried Pulp and so now they are essentially tied for my best-of-house. I waited for a year to pull the trigger on a Bal d'Afrique purchase because it leans feminine (and I'm a dude). But in the end I reasoned that the scent profile is just too beautiful to pass up, and even though it leans a tad feminine, its significantly unisex. I think Pulp is a masterpiece. I just received the full bottle and it's now my new holy grail frag of the fruity genre. It's an unbelievably photorealistic, intense, tart, tangy, sweet wearable piece of art. Talk about not being able to stop smelling my wrist. Before smelling for the first time I thought I would find it artistic, but the question was wearability. I found it surprisingly wearable, hence the elevation into the masterpiece designation. And of course very artistic. Now, the fruit, although pulpy and succulent, can be characterized as over ripe. Some describe it as fruit pulp that's been in the garbage for a day, and I get that. But it still works for me, and is as pleasant as it is artsy. The only other fragrance with such a unique over ripe fruit characteristic that I can recall offhand is the classic Dior Diorella from 1973 - the feminine-targeted companion to the classic Eau Sauvage EDT. Very different fragrances that share that characteristic.
    I have a decant of Gypsy Water, test wore it, and concluded the same as those who say it's a mediocre scent profile that doesn't perform. But I'll need to wear it more.
    Biblioteque is on my radar, and I love plum notes. The others I have that HAVE a plum/leather combo are MDCI Chypre Palatin and Michael for Men by Michael Kors (2001), and I love both. The Michael Kors feature plum and suede leather notes fairly prominently and its fantastic. Chypre Palatin has so much else going on that it's way beyond a plum/leather accord. I guess it depends.
    I've subscribed to your Chanel. Your descriptions are very articulate.

    I definitely need to try more byredo perfumes! I love your reviews, I think I have quite different preferences though 😅i LOVE biblioteque (i do find it comfortingly nostalgic somehow), and hate bal d'afrique passionately! I had a tester of it and sprayed myself quickly as I was on my way out to work - had to run out to the pound shop as I was changing trains to buy some febreze because it was honestly making me feel super nauseous! Very muted and mid-toned, and my fragrance preferences often reflect that as well

    I just found your channel as I am slowly diving into the fragrance world. Really like how you describe fragrance and that you put notes on the screen. Great job. Also I think we are fragrance opposites🤣🤣🤣. Gypsy water is meh to me, however Biblioteque and Mixed Emotions are my 2 favourites. I like unique scents and I definitely do not like "smell like the massess"🤣🤣. Also scent is super personal and you need to spritz it on yourself. Same scent can smell complately different on everyone. But I like to watch videos like this to get idea what to whif next on me. I simply refuse to buy a fragrance if I can not smell it on myself. Especially expensive ones😊😊
