    My 7.3 Godzilla did not like Penzoil Platinum Ultra. As soon as I changed it the valve train was noticeably louder. Switched to Schaeffer oil and it's quiet again.

      Interesting... okay then continue to use the Schaeffer. I've heard good stuff about that. Also, let's hope America wakes up in 2024... if you get my gist... thanks for watching. I hope you're a subscriber and make that 7.3 last baby!

    Thank you for this video, which pretty much confirmed my suspicion that this oil has been discontinued as I haven’t been able to find it anywhere in the past several months. My current vehicle is a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the famous 4.0 i6 with well over 200,000 miles, and originally chose this oil three and a half years ago after some research in hopes that it would quiet down the awful loud lifter clatter after a cold start. Seemed to kinda work. Yesterday I gave up trying to find this “gas truck” oil and got some Castrol Edge “high mileage” instead after some more research. I’m planning on changing the oil today, can’t wait to see how the 4.0 likes the new oil.

    • @TheSwitzAutomotive
      @TheSwitzAutomotive  2 роки тому +1

      I'm sure you did a great job on that oil change (as opposed to the quick lube places - see my video on Top 10 Reasons to Avoid 10 Minute Oil Change shops!). Castrol Edge is good. I'm not sure it's where Amsoil and the SOPUS products are, but it should work well for you. Thanks for watching Greg and congratulations on keeping a 1995 Jeep on the road. Let me guess... you are probably not making car payments on that vehicle ... and are probably getting ahead in life!

    • @gregmercil3968

      @@TheSwitzAutomotive the oil change went great, with the exception of when the wind picked up. Had a strong gust of wind blow through just as the oil was draining, which made kind of a mess in my driveway. 😆
      I’ve been doing all my own oil changes for about the last 8 or 9 years or so, because I figured that it’s the only way it will get done right. And yes, no car payments, as I paid nothing for my Jeep as it was a hand me down. As for getting ahead in life? Ehh I’m trying. 🤣🤣🤣

    You can still find it online but the prices are excrutiating. I too fell into the hype when it was first released and it was an excellent oil, they really marketed it mostly using their "Rotella" branding but I don't think it sold too well, it was marketed for trucks and the car owners would often pass on by. I was using Pennzoil Platinum in my 2004 GMC Sierra w/ 5.3 but switched to this and it's been great, I haven't had an oil analysis performed but over on BITOG it has mostly high remarks but it's not really an extended type oil meaning you shouldn't run it longer than what the manufacturer calls for. Yes the QS synthetic is very similar with minor differences between them. It was a fine oil but for 10k-20k mile intervals it is not.
    Another best kept secret is the Chevron Delo XLE 10w30, getting very hard to find these days. I used to run it a lot in my Civic and now wish I would've stocked up.

    Thanks for the information. I’m like a lot of the other’s. Really liked this product. Way to go shell. Another example of business management. They put out the V-tech fuel. And tell us how great it is but leave the middle grade and regular. Instead of maybe eliminating one or two. And reduce the cost of production. Lower price =more sales = bigger profits.I should sell my stock.

    The Rotella Gas/Truck oil in my opinion is the best. I've used it in my 2020 Ram 5.7 since brand new. In NH we have the 90° heat in the summer and 0° in winter and never a rap on start up! I have enough for one more oil change which I'm about to do. I really hate that it's not going to be available. It is very rare for me to be concerned about a certain product going away, but ive gotta say this one does. I think this oil was catching on and they would have had good sales.

    I somehow didn't notice that this says GAS TRUCK...
    I bought it used it on my Massey Ferguson GC1725M sub compact tractor, which uses a 25HP 3cyl diesel engine. Tractor is a 2020 model with 400 hours on it, I was using Massey Ferguson conventional oil until now as that is what manual calls for and my dealer sold to me.
    I am planning on switching to diesel specific synthetic oil next oil change but it makes me nervous that I used this in diesel engine, I must have been blind, not sure how I missed such big sign on bottle.
    I was just wondering if I could ha e caused any damage or extra wear by using this oil in my tractor? Did about 100 hours on it. Manual calls for oil change every 250 hours when using conventional oil.
