The Switz
Приєднався 30 сер 2012
Welcome to my channel that specializes in how to make a car last 25 years without it being a "beater" or piece of junk. Even though I've been a UA-cam member since 2012 I wanted to wait until I'd been driving for over 30 years and working on my own cars for over 20 years to start my own channel. As a result I've developed particular theories and ways of doing things that are extremely effective (some learned from my father who was in the engine rebuilding industry).
I also provide opinions on car ownership... the only caveat being that all of my videos are based on my own personal experience. I make no guarantees or warranties of any kind as each driving or maintenance situation is unique and requires the use of good judgement, proper tools, and the observation of all reasonably prudent safety precautions.
The symbol of The Switz is a blue star. It symbolizes what I want to be for the rest of my life, a guide to help you on your automotive journey.

What about a taste test? Will it whiten teeth?
Ha! Yes, it does look like I'm about to drink it. Hey U I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
Maybe they made it better chemistry moves on.
very true about the tire shops. But, also understand that the weather is going to affect those types of exposed lugnuts. Set them to spec, then a year later see where they are at. If the threads were bone dry and youre in harsh winter climates or dont have a garage then youll see how hard they are to get off. Do an experiment. My truck is 140 ft lbs. It took 210 ft lbs to remove the lugnuts on my back wheels after a year and i did them myself.
Good point Danger Dave... I've lived all my life in CA and TX so I've never had to deal with that ... or cars rusting. Thanks for the insight. I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
This stuff is carcinogenic and you are inhaling it! Think about what you're doing! This stuff contains Glycol ethers.
I have half a bottle from 2020 and it has a strong chemical smell. I've used it topically on rubber but am leary of adding it to the internals. I do have a small power steering leak and an oil leak thats gelled. I was thinking of trying it but only a few drops in one at a time. 2004 Toyota Camry 140,000 miles..
Hey Justin. I don't think a few drops would do much on a 20 year old car. May want to try a new bottle, see if that works, and if it doesn't then try 1/4 of a bottle of your old AT-205 stock. I love that you are driving a 20 year old Camry... those cars were so well built... I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
I plan to add ATP to my power steering rack that is slightly leaking at the boot. Do I need to flush my system before or after I add the ATP? I tested the break fluid its slightly dirty, I’m not sure if it’s ok just to add the 2.5 oz and leave it like that. I’m also not sure if ATP would affect my power steering pump. I have a 2000 Lexus RX 300 AWD and it runs great with 188k miles. Great video and thanks for sharing!
If I had your 24 year old Lexus I'd dump in 2.5 and not worry about flushing it out. I'd just drive it and see if it stopped the leak... probably 50/50 it stops the leak. Good luck! I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
@@TheSwitzAutomotivethank you for the reply and advice! I’m also a new subscriber! Thanks!
Late to the show but I was watching a different video saying basically the same thing you are so I did a little research online and also called the battery/tool manufacturer--in my case RIGID regarding if Ah would increase power output for my impact driver. The response and info I got/found was 'no' it just gives more runtime. After watching your video I think I will get the higher Ah rated battery just to see because I found a relatively cheap knock-off compatible battery on Amazon at a third of the price of the genuine so hopefully I will have the same result as you.
Sounds good Teez! Definitely go 5 or 6 AH on your impact for better power. Torque Test Channel has also done a lot of these tests with the same results. Thanks for watching. I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
@@TheSwitzAutomotive Got the 2pack of 8.0Ah for $56
I have a 2009 CRV and I have put a 890 cca battery on it 5yrs ago. still cranks over a bit slow for me, but it always starts first time. UK
Well you want to get a battery tester on that John as it sounds like your battery is near the end of its life. Glad to hear you went with a bigger battery... definitely the way to go. I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
I had hoped for an actual spraying demo in part @
Thanks for this.

So WHY are you carrying ceramics? Why do you need a knife at a game? You sound like you spend too much time watching movies or youtube. Pulling a knife on someone at a game if you get into an altercation is insane. You shouldn't be allowed knives.
I've had situations where I've been walking to my car after meeting a friend at a game and had shady characters eying me... a lot of sports stadiums are in bad parts of town... and if one or some of them come toward me to rob or kill me I'm glad I have something. This is especially true now that I'm in my 50s. If you watch Active Self Protection (actual videos of assaults) in order keep yourself from being a victim of violent crime you need (1) awareness and (2) self defense tools ... whatever you are able to carry. The idea that I want to go to a game so I can "pull a knife on someone a the game" is a mischaracterization. The idea is that either in the stadium or outside the stadium you have a weapon to defend your life as a last resort if you need it. Thanks for watching.
@@TheSwitzAutomotive And you cant handle yourself without a knife?!!? Lol. Youre a TOTAL fantasist.
⚠️broken plastic😊
This worked thanks. 🙏
I tried this but I think the gauge on my needle was too thin. What gauge needle did you use?
Honestly I don't see a needle gauge on the syringes that I have. I would just try to track down a bigger one... and test them out. Get little drops of glue to appear (practice, practice) and you'll be able to get that glue where it needs to go inside your headliner for a great repair. Thanks for watching Mr. Golf... I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last!
Can't figure out to put the battery in it.
Hey Ronnie, just undo the screw in the middle and pull up from the bottom (there's a lip just below the serial number area). The whole back panel will come off and you can change out the 9 volt. Let me know if you have any other difficulties with the batter. Still use my DM 600 and still really like it. Thanks for watching. I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
Just picked up a set of the metric, I dont need them currently but when you do, they are a must have and for $3.99 + tax for a set of 9 how do you not get a set? Im not sure how they will hold up using them with my DeWalt drill driver unless I use it with the clutch turned down but with a hand "screw" driver they should be alright. 🔩
Yes, I consider them "light duty" but great to have in my inventory when I need a magnetic nut driver... which pops up every now and then. Thanks for watching. I hope you're a subscriber Frank and make those cars last baby!
I put a a bigger battery in my Toyota matrix that fits good enough. I was worried though that because it is not the manufacturer’s recommended group size that I made a mistake. Do you think it’s okay to have bigger batteries then? Thanks.
Yep. I haven't run across one subscriber that reports that they had a bad experience by putting in a larger battery. For me, my batteries in the Honda last between 4 and 6 years instead of 2 to 3 years. Bigger, in my opinion, is just better. Thanks for watching Ghrammcracker I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
@@TheSwitzAutomotive I will subscribe now. Thanks!
You saved me. Thank you for the easy but secret tips.
It's not. a bug, it's a feature
It stopped a minor leak in my power steering pum and steering box on my R129 from 1997, good enough for me:)
Good to hear xSailor ... a lot of my subs have complained that it just isn't as good as it used to be, even though I believe it is still the best stop leak product on the market. Hey I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
2 inch-long piece of 3/4" shrink tube fixes the floppy 3/8" universal joint. Note: Shrink a little for more flexibility and shrink a lot for more rigidity.
I have a number of Waitley batteries, some as old as 6 years. Of the 8 in my collection, one died this summer. My biggest concern is that it seam you can't buy Makita or Milwaukee cimpatible batteries anumy more. Any idea whats going on here?
I can't really comment on the Makita and Milwaukee situation as I'm a DeWalt tool user. That said, it doesn't seem like Waitley support for Makita and Milwaukee has ever been that robust. It seems like most of their focus has been on DeWalt... but I agree, I at least used to see some support for Makita and Milwaukee, and now I see none. If it were me I'd just buy the two 5AH Milwaukees off Amazon for $130 (the price right now). Thanks for watching Padra I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
Viewed video's on it. Didn't work for me on two different occasions, and made absolutely no difference
Yes, I don't think it's as good as the original formulation. Still the best on the market, but definitely no guarantees. Thanks for watching!
Cheers I’ll try this with my Worx
You can do a load test on your battery with 12 volts. Measure the voltage while starting the engine. It should stay above 10 volts, since starting the car is the biggest load on the battery, this test is an acceptable load test. You can also test the battery resting voltage and the alternators running voltage and full load voltage. resting battery voltage should be about 12.6, running battery voltage voltage should be above 14 and full load (using all your electricity in your vehicle while the vehicle is running) the voltage should stay above 13.5. I do note That only testing the voltage while starting the car is a load test testing the battery, resting voltage (car off) is testing the battery, the no load running (car running) voltage and full load (car running) voltage test the alternator
If you're going to bleed the brakes on a older vehicle, pump the pedal slowly as the seals in 5he booster and master cylinder get old.
Holy crap that worked incredibly well. Maybe it was just the twisting of the hose, maybe it was the pick, maybe it was both, but it worked! Thank you!
Happy it worked for you! Thanks for watching. I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
👉Ok just an UPDATE Switz, rung AT-205 from Australia at midnight😂 at their direct number, talked to technical support and asked them about the nail polish remover smell which used to be in the old bottle ....he said the supplier had left us during covid, and we decided to continue without it, but he specifically said 2 times, the formula has not CHANGED which is a good result for all of us really. Watched a series of your videos, thought should update you👍
Thanks Dopamine. I'm not surprised he'd say that... but a lot of my subs have complained that it doesn't work as well. Still the best stop leak product on the market. Thanks for the info... I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last baby!
I am a GC and make money off my tools. I use both batteries. A 6ah Waitley is like a 4 ah Dewalt as far as size and performance. For example, a circular saw draws more power than a fan or LED light. So some tools the Waitley is worth every penny while other tools you may want to use the OEM Dewalts.
Its back reformulated
Well, seems you're going to be happy with Sequoia, for the same reason I'm really annoyed: For me, after 'upgrading' I find the dock no longer moves, so I'm forced to move the pointer alllllllll the way to the bottom of my lower screen to click something. If only Apple took the radical step of supposing that users might like this or that behaviour, and instead of randomly changing things as if they know better how to use your computer than you do, they put an option in settings. Perhaps even more radically - they might notice that screens are no longer 512x342 pixels, and reconsider things like having a menu bar miles away from its associated window. Context-sensitive menus, anyone?
There were a few critical cuts edited in there. I appreciate the tips, but our definitions of "easy" might be slightly different.
Life gets in the way... be it a knock at the door or a phone call from a friend. Sometimes I can't shoot video all the way thru... bottom line, if I need to remove a radiator hose I use the pipe wrench technique... and if it's a smaller hose I use a smaller tool, like a pair of channel locks, to twist the hose back and forth to break the seal. I hope you're a subscriber and make those cars last!
my thoughts too. why cut the hard bits and show the hose when off
Utility Knife! That's exactly what I've been doing!!
AT 205 comes with no instructions.

I got a few of these in my Temu cart already.
Seafoam run a can of seafoam in your fuel Tank. Regular gas. I put it in every second fill up. Sometimes I use two cans. It keeps the whole system clean. And you can feel the difference in how it responds compared to if I let it go. It can add up though, the price of the seafoam. But if you run a good tank full of seafoam for a few fills up you’ll get a nice clean to the system. Seafoam is the only addictive that I will use. It’s the one I’ve found that works unlike all the other snake oil ones.
I am not interested

660 cc Bike engine manual says use RON 91. I have tried PLUS 89 gas, and dont perceive any engine knocking or performance issues? any thoughts? though I hear that altitude effects how gas burns, so If I were to go across country, the altitude changes... so i would use 91 in that case. Any thoughts?
Quick Question, I just bought this exact pair of Bolt cutters from Harbor Freight is there suppose to be some play in the handle until it's opened fully ?

2024 and hearing Chris Fix and Scotty 😂 the OGs
Mine doesn't heat up at all. Cold metal even after several minutes of being plugged in. Kinda bummed because I'm trying to get into this
Just take it back to HF and say "this doesn't work when I plug it in" and they'll probably give you another one. Also, I did another video where I suggest a higher quality soldering iron... don't give up. Being able to solder is a great life skill.
Another common upgrade is to use the 24F battery that Honda uses for their 6-cylinder vehicles.
Would it work for dog oder? Bought a car, the previous owner had a dog, and the smell is terrible.
I would shampoo the carpet and maybe even get an ozone machine (see sweetprojectcars for this) then after that I'd have the lava rock bag. I hope you're a subscriber Nik and make those cars last baby!
I bought the 4 pack off of Amazon about a year and half ago and dropped the 1 bottle in 1st time with no luck (I don't believe I recall the nail polish smell). Fast forward almost a year later (i don't drive much these days) poured the recommended 1 and 1/4 bottle on a fresh oil change on my now 11 year old f10 BMW and drove just over 10 hours next day from Toronto to Ottawa and in between and back I can't explain this but on longer drives when I've reached operating temperature, there are ZERO leaks. I've driven short 5 to10 minute drives where I've been disappointed to see almost golf ball-sized leaks. I have a slight weeping at the rear main seal but the issue is with the oil pan gasket.
