The mid 70s 3406A pre combustion turbocharged aftercooled (PCTA) which this one looks to be were a good motor, horrible economy but sure sounded awesome with the clatter they make, (clatterpillar) the turbo thats on it you'll wake the dead with. They are extremely loud but sound awesome as well, loud and strong, but not for long.. love the truck and motor, keep em coming
I drove a 1979 Freightliner like this except there was a sleeper on mine. The paint scheme on here is called the Greensboro Mine had a 92 Detroit 15 over with 411s on tall rubber.
Shes a looker that old rig man... Too bad there ain't no sleeper. Could make those lot lizards come runnin with a nice little hut in there. Fuggin nice paint too. Can't believe someone who stick her in the wreckin yard. Nice that ya saved it though. thanks for sharing this. Shes a gem
I have an 1987 international s-series with a 6v92 Detroit it is a concrete truck and I love it. She definitely turns heads when you come through town wide open and then hit the jakes on high. It’s a unique truck
It’s an old Freightliner, Original, Cat powered and you saved it from the junkyard! 🥰 Cats rule! This is the 2nd video I’ve seen so far and I feel better about it! I love the old rigs, especially cabovers, and this one really WAS worth saving! Love the new led lights...can see ya coming down the road! Looking forward to seeing this beast come alive! I drove that same truck back in 1985 not a 100% sure but it sure looks like the truck. Alta Dena Dairy in southern California had one, they sold it back in 1989 not sure where it went to, I have a pic of truck...
I don’t know why some people thought it was a Cummins when clearly it’s a 3406 ! The intake and the pumps are dead giveaway ! And someone even said it had a sleeper when clearly it never had a boot and day cabs have rear windows but the rear window does look kinda square , looks like it might have pulled an aircan or tanker before , sounds to me like you got a great deal on this one ! I started OTR in 1976 ! Don’t seem that long ago until you see it in a text ! Lol. Those square noses always were a good tractor ( Consolidated Freightways built that tractor ) there great company trucks , owner /operators usually had Pete’s and K-wappers ! Enjoy it you’ll have a blast !

It's not white because it's a 3406. It's white because that engine likely came out of a Kenworth or Peterbilt. For a long time PACAR spec'd Matterhorn White on all Cat engines they bought. Freightliner would have had a yellow engine if it was a factory installed Cat. Of course, over the last 30 or 40 years people could have done a lot of things and painted stuff a lot of different colors. But it's pretty likely that engine came out of some kind of PACAR. Good old Freightliner, before Daimler got ahold of them and ruined them.
Alpine white Cat is for recreational marine. Yellow is terrestrial, or commercial marine. Don't know about older Petes, but all that I've seen where Cat Yellow. Except for one that I know is white, because the owner painted it white at the first rebuild.
Aww screw em! Them big ol diesel motors run fine under no load without coolant. People think they use to leave em running all the time to keep em cool, while it was actually the other way around! Had to keep em warm! Please don't repaint it or slam it on the ground.
Hey take the visor off and turn it upside down it will be close to cab like the new visors and it will look like what they call a bow tie and polish it out it will look good

Man loving the old Freight liner videos.

Looks to me like that one used to have a sleeper also.
Good luck 👍

Wow that’s rad I’ve got a 74 white road boss w a 230 Cummins a 10 speed w a four speed brownie that I’m very slowly working through like this
Pete and Kenworth motors were white even if they were Detroits or Cummins The motor my have come from a Pete or KW Nice build keep the vids coming
I am loved cats. They are Great in the Mountains. Them old trucks is what I learned to drive.
Ole girl is looking good cant wait to see the next update. Love the videos!

I like the green and white on the truck that's pretty cool
I could tell on the first video it was a 3406A. Good engine. Prefer a CAT or Cummins but can’t beat fuel mileage on a Detroit.

Damn right it's worth fixin, love the Ole truck. Everybody needs a mid life crisis project.
That is the first cat I have ever seen with a intake like a cummins.
The Cat A model had a water jacket after-cooler, similar to a Cummins. The B model ( most) had a front mounted cooler.

Could you do a video on his old pick up truck sitting by that rig? From what I can see it looks awesome
Yeah I can do that

Up through the early 1980's, all engines destined for use in PACCAR products were painted white, regardless of the brand.
Yeah chrome don't get ya home but it'll damn sure make you look good trying to get there !!!
Cat 3406 is just as good of an engine as cummins. Many would argue its better but cant go wrong with either
I think cat has Cummins beat due to their timing advance vs fixed timing

You should put a Detroit back in it. But maybe a 12v71t.
That would be amazing to do
Lights make the truck, old Chevy next to it ,look like 1969,70 short bed.

Hey havent heard anything more on this truck guys. Hows it comin?
That old truck looks good. Can't wait to see it run on the road. Love the size of the shop. How big is the shop? Have a great week.
40x60 shop. Thanks can’t wait to see it on the road myself too
I dig this re-build!! Did you get paper work from the junk yard, and will it have a salvage title, will you be able to re-register it?
The gentleman who scrap the truck left a title for it so it has a clean title
The green and white sure looks good. Don't know what you colour plans are later on.
Keep the same paint scheme
Brice Wilson would have said it was a cummins... lol
What was the run a way situation? And why was it scraped ? I mean it would tell you somthing about the trk.

Any updates on this truck?
So, I'm caught up. I don't think it was said in the first video last year. Who's truck is it. Wills, yours or both?
