I'm considering moving to Eindhoven after getting a job offer from ASML - most of the videos on Eindhoven online are of Americans visiting for a day or two! I really appreciate the variety of locations you recorded at in this video and hearing about your lived experience. You put so much more love into this video than similar ones I've been watching, thanks for posting!
Nice to see, back in the 50s/60s was sent there to stay with my grandparents and visit aunts& uncles for the school holidays (Gestel). My mother came from Eindhoven to Scotland after the war.
Brought out a sea of memories of my 'second home' Eindhoven! Tania you showcased Eindhoven in the most practical manner. From the little cafés nestled in the tiny streets or the St Catherina Church to the contemporary Strip S and home to many expats - this unassuming city offers itself through its many facets. 😊
On the 1st of januari 2022 we got in Eindhoven 238.307 inhabitants. In the 21 municipality's surrounding Eindhoven we got a total of 785.000 people living.
The region population doesn't really count, I feel, but if the agglomeration were in any other country then nl, it would probably be taken, and that's about 400.000 inhabitants. Sadly the Dutch government and its citizens only look at municipalities, which means 243.000 as of 1st of January 2023.

Very nice. The first decent video about Eindhoven I've seen on YT. I'm born and raised in the region, so not many surprises for me, but a very good introduction to the city for someone from outside. What I missed (maybe something for the future?), is the fact that Eindhoven still more or less consists of the villages it has grown from (Gestel, Stratum, Woensel, Strijp, Eindhoven (do I have them all?)). I don't know how familiar you are with the other locations besides the centre and Strijp, but there might be some more points of interest there.

There is indeed not much helpful information on UA-cam about Eindhoven, which I find surprising because Eindhoven is developing soooo rapidly and getting more international day by day. I appreciate your suggestions - definitely maybe something for another video.
@@theselfishcodependent Welcome! I think as well that with the influx of so many international people, especially in high tech, in the region, a lot of people can appreciate your information. Especially the towns to the South-West of Eindhoven experience this influx as well. ASML will probably be the key factor in that these days.
Hi 😊👋🏻 My husband and I are moving to Eindhoven. He is already there and looking for a house/apartment for us and our cat and dog. It's not easy and the prices are higher as you stated, we can confirm that. We've been there 2x and we love the city and the nature around it. :) People are friendly which is very important to us. I hope you make few more videos on the Eindhoven topic :) Maybe dog friendly places, can canals be used for kayaking and paddle boarding, what to visit in the city and around it, some places to get good fresh cheese 🧀 from farmers... There is a simple reason Eindhoven is not the capital of the province Noord Brabant. Until 1920 it was a relatively small town. In 1920 it merged with the towns of Woensel, Tongelre, Striip and Gestel. And Phillips did the rest to make it grow. Now Phillips is a memory from the past in Eindhoven, but the technical university of Eindhoven and ASML( actually located in the nearby municipality of Veldhoven, make it a good basis for Eindhoven as a high tech center.
Interesting! So in the past Den Bosch was bigger than Eindhoven? I wonder if Eindhoven will ever become the capital given the rapid growth and development of the city.
SHertogenbosch is now the capital of Brabant because historical it was 1 of the 5 capitals which where present in the Great Duchedome of Brabant which includes the provinces of Noord Brabant, Brabant, Dutch Limburg, Belgium Limburg and in their highest piek it even controlled the rest of the Netherlands, Namen, Henegouwen and Flanders this also had the first semi parlement of the Netherlands under the name The Hoge Raad van Brabant en de Nederlanden. The capitals where in equil share: Mechelen, Brussels, Gent, s-Hertogenbosxh and Antwerp. These city State and the Gilden had a huge influence in the Counsel of Brabant.
ASML is the only company in the world which makes semiconductor Photolithography machines for very advanced chips. For example, latest iPhone chip. Imagine you have to miniaturize all of Amsterdam within 1 inch space and how much complex it is. That is what that ASML lithography machine does to sketch transistors circuits inside 1 inch silicon wafer. Please,don't say ASML is placed in Eindhoven. I am proud to live in Veldhoven on the other side of the highway A2. And in a straight line, ASML is only 500 meters away from my home while Eindhoven is 4 km away. Also Eindhoven it self wasn't that big in the 17th and 18th century. Only after combining with Stratum, Woensel, Strijp and some other very small areas it became a big town.
As one of the 17 million people in the Netherlands NOT living in Amsterdam I don't get it. WHY do foreigners think that the city is in any way special? Oh well.
ASML does not produce chips. It is the worlds biggest and most advanced producer of machines that make chips. TSMC in Taiwan is the worlds biggest producer of chips…. Using machines of ASML.

That's true! A lot of buildings got renovated to make them livable. Before they were intended for other purposes like offices or school, for example
