@@riddhisingh5466 Ah man, I raised him from raw chicken stage to huge and fluffy lol Phoenix now permanently resides all the way in Maryland at a bird sanctuary. He was the best pigeon dude ever and I’ll always be forever grateful I rescued him.
May I know what you fed him? I rescued one today from fire ants , don’t know what to feed it :(
@@hanqingchai7305 Before I could get ahold of baby bird formula that I managed to find at Petsmart I used dog food kibble for the first day or so. I soaked it and would mash it in with some boiled egg yolk. Made it into a paste and looked up videos on how to successfully hand feed the specie because all birds eat differently. Pigeons for one actually suck their food up and dont open wide like typical baby birds would.

Found a dehydrated fledgling crow in the middle of the street. Helped it out of the street unto some nearby grass. It was a highly trafficked area with cars and pedestrians. When it was clear that the bird was in distress, i scooped it up and brought it to a rehab. Luckily, there were 2 other baby crows there and an adult. A few weeks later, the rehab told me that the birds bonded and were released together.

We have a baby robin he’s a nestling. Idk wut to do. His mom is feeding him but it’s gonna be 59 degrees tonight. We have had incidents with cats and birds, and the nest is 50’ up. Idk wut to do. If u have any ideas plz give them. Thx!

If it's better to let nature take its course then I'll do everything in my power to save that bird. Sorry, but I couldn't live in good conscience knowing that I just left a bird to die if I had any way of helping him.

Agreed! I just found one like an hour ago, and I'm not going to let it bake in the 100 degree heat and die. Maybe God put me in that exact moment for a reason.....or the universe.....or whatever you believe in.

She just said right before that that they will do everything they can to help an animal. When she says sometimes it's better to let nature take it's course, she means that there's no way of helping the animal. Please consider the extreme stress the bird will experience when a human picks them up and they're hurt so they can't get away. Trying to save an animal that can't be saved will just make them suffer more. That's why you should call someone who knows enough about birds to be able to tell when it's not worth trying.
Exactly thats why I'm here trying to learn how to take care of this nestling. Someone put it in my planter no neat in sight, if i leave it it will die.. and this video gave me no information on what to do? Its cold outsidr
What to do when you find a baby bird:
Go to a vet
Give the bird to them

Or the orphanage like what my parents did to me

I had a baby mockingbird find me once. It kept hopping around on my shoulders, arms etc. I had no idea what to do but I enjoyed the company. ;)
There was a fledgling out front a couple days ago and I scooted him out of the road and into bushes. I wondered if I had done the right thing and thought maybe I should have brought him in or something, but this video assured me that I probably did the right thing!

Today I found 3 baby nestlings that fell off of their nest. one of them died because ants were eating it. we saved the other 2😢😭

On the way home from school today I found a little baby bird that had fallen out of a tree and it was laying upside down in a deep puddle so I picked it up and took it home and kept it in a box full of bedding but me and my Nan found that it had many injuries so we took it to the vets in Crowthorne and they took it away and said that I had been a very kind hearted person for saving it but sadly after we got back from the vets they gave my Nan a call saying they had to get it put down because it was suffering and I am 12 years old and my parents and my Nan are very proud of me.
I don't even know you and I'm proud of you too.

The myth that the parents will smell you is certianly wide spread here in Australia!
The only piece of advice I add when talking about baby birds is to figure out if the birds a ground dwelling species of not, i attendeed a rescue last year where someone had found some baby plovers in the grass (which is natural) and meaning well put the poor guys in a man made nest way up in a tree😂

I volunteered at a wildlife rehab center in Minnesota and specifically worked in the avian nursery. It was such an amazing experience, and I hope I can do something similar in the future. One great memory from y time there was getting to take a bird out and release it. Rehab centers do a lot of good for a lot of animals, and it's so rewarding to see it pay off.

WRCMN is great! Thanks for volunteering there, too! The avian nursery is finally in full gear this year, after several weeks delay due to the weird winter. It's loud up in the nursery hallway, now! When it was just squirrels and bunnies it was nice and quiet XD
I have a nestling I saved yesterday. The nest is so too far up just as a the branches are. I'm disabled and can't even begin to get this bird up. I asked neighbors and they all had an excuse or looked at me like I was insane. Well, maybe I am insane but at least I'm not a ? Hole little bit@h.
I called the wildlife rehabilitation she is talking about. It's about 2 hours from my house. I would drive this little bird myself but I don't have a car and it's too far for me to drive on my medications anyway. They wouldn't even consider asking if any of their people who are close and going that way to come get the bird to take there. I was also told it was illegal for me to have wildlife. So, I said oh well I will just put it back where I found it. She said no it will die for sure if I do that. So, yesterday I watched for parents and safety until it was getting late. I brought it in and made a cat food wet food paste in a med dropper and it ate it. Now it is the next evening and I'm exhausted after all the feedings and phone calls for help. But, it's alive, pooping, active and its eyes just opened. No fluff. Red skin, wobbly and has a good appetite. I'm getting a iui worms right now for it. I don't want to do this. Yet the alternative is certain death or should I say it is nature taking her course. We can't save them all but we can care enough to do our best when possible. I have the time to care but not all the knowledge. Just what I find online.
I'm in new ulm mn. And somewhat new to the area so I don't know hardly anyone. So I ask ... If any kind hearted soul out there is able to take her to the wildlife refuge it would mean the world to me and this little bird.
I literally have a nestling in my hand right now that I'll be taking there tomorrow morning. My husband just went to get hand warmers.
Deeply appreciate your advise .. clear and to the point. I saw a small fledgling bird (now I know what this is :)) on the sidewalk and I was worried that cats would get it. So I took it back home in a warm and quite place and went out again to complete my dog walk which took another 15 min .. went back and immediately searched for advise and saw your video .. so I took it back to where I found it .. it was clinching on my finger so I had to find a small dead twig for it to hold on to, and placed it on top of high enough street box .. as I walked away a few meters I turned back and law and behold, one of the parents went down to check on it and was chirping at it :)

I found a baby Bluejay in my driveway sitting somewhere. I sat beside It and literally started talking to it. Asking how it’s day been, I didn’t want to touch him or her because Of it’s mother so I didn’t! But I sat a little distant from the bird watching him sit there Until his or her mother came and fed it and they left together! :) Glad to see they were both actually okay.
Actually it is proven that touching a baby bird won't make it's mother neglect it or leave it :)
Once I rescue a juvenile seagull that somehow got stuck in a recessed garden about one story down and couldn't fly out. So I took it to pass wildlife rescue. It had all its feathers and I tried to get it to fly but it would not. I'm happy to say they told me that they helped him and got him back out into the wild

Thanks for your information! My mum has once “rescued” a baby bird home from a park (a fledging one I guess), but we soon realized that the baby bird was not injured as we thought it was, it might probably be hiding from predators only (that’s why it looked lost and does not move at all). Also we had no idea about the follow up actions to help it neither. I think it’s really important to have these kinds of educational materials for urban people to understand how to interact with our nature properly, especially when the urban area is expanding and intercrossing more with the wildlife. Thanks again for your video!
Thanks for this, followed your instructions and put the bird in an egg box in a tree near where the original nest was (that bush was cut down) the parents found it and started feeding again, what a relief!
I remember, when I kept a sparrow fledgling in my home for only a day. It was so cuuuttteee! After that day, I found the nest that it fell from. I know that it is its nest because I found the baby bird just under that spot. Put it back in, hid in the bushes and watched how the parents fed the babies.

I found a baby bird that looked about a week old. I week later after we found him he was doing so well! He was opening his eyes and moving and chirping! We were so happy to see him fly! On day 7 we noticed a red bump in his neck like the one on the picture before you click on the video. Idk what it’s called but anyway. Today is day 8 and this morning he wasn’t moving and bagging for food as usual so I picked him up and he wasn’t moving at all. I saw his chest go up and down once in a while but I thought he was dead. On his lower stomach felt flat and like a deflated balloon but still had stuff in it. I cried for about ( minutes and went to tell my mom. She came out and rubbed his chest and about 5 minutes later he slowly opened his eyes. I thought he would survive! I had so much hope and was praying he would be ok. About 1” minutes later his eyes were closed again and he wasn’t breathing. I cried for so long but he was gone. We buried him. My point of this comment is was there was a piece of worm stuck to the lump on his neck and it looked a little bloody. His poop also had a tiny bit of blood once is a while. I’m not sure if the lump on his neck is natural or not? We are not sure is he was kicked out of his nest or fell out but if he was kicked out maybe his mom thought he wouldn’t make it or something was wrong with him. The mom is still going up to the nest at the top of our tree and feeding her other baby’s. Does anyone know the answer to this if you do please reply I would love to know! Thank you!
Thanks! You guys helped a lot. It's spring now here in Brazil, and a couple of fledglings we're out in the open. A third one didn't make it, because of my dogs, but the other two are now safe back in their tree.

I found a Fledgling bird in my backyard. There was another Fledgling but it was already too late. I don’t know if I should help the other or not. Even my family said to just let nature take its course.
fledglings are not abandon or in any danger unless he has a broken wing..fledgling are a stage were he's leaving the nest and the parent will feed him when ever they find food for him..you'll know a fledgling because they will be able to fly a few feet and hops around ... he;s semi full feathers, but just short... these fledgling are not birds you want to take in and raise it, because the parent is still feeding him..if you hand reared a baby bird from the wild, you better keep him til he dies or else just leave him to nature,because hand reared baby birds don;t have the knowledge to survive and gather food or knows how to protect itself from danger.. even though he's full grown and eating on his own that doesn't mean him knows how to survive in the wild..he'll just die from starvation unless you put him outside with a cage and put seed for him to eat and transition slowly to the wild, but most will not make it unless you supply it with seed or food.

She didn't mention that fledglings are likely to be eaten by feral cats and other predators when you leave them on the ground ( when they can't actually fly yet.) Maybe my mistake, but i have a hard time abandoning an animal if I know its helpless. The "nature take its course' angle doesn't work for me, and I certainly would never feel that way about a human life. Animals are Gods creatures as well and deserve all the help they can get.

I found a magpie lark fledgling 2 days ago, ushered it into a safe spot, away from the road, then left immediately. I had no idea if I did the right thing or not, it was playing on my mind since. I'm so glad, after seeing this video, I actually did exactly the right thing.
(Edit: the video happened to pop up in my recommended, I didn't even search it, though it was playing on my mind).
Most people cant reach the nest cause mosy likely really high in the tree. How about explaining what to feed and take care of the bird so it can get stronger and fly off and live a good life instead of leaving them outside for a cat to attack it
My cat brought me a bird that is like 2 days old and it is injured and punctured but we can’t take it to the vet because of coronavirus. We searched up how to feed it because it’s our only option, but we are trying our best to do what we can:(
Some years ago I found a fox that seemed to have had a concussion on the side of a public street. I gathered it up in a crate and took it home after making sure it wouldn't bite. Once home I put it in a drawer with a blanket. It started to sleep so I was able to check it. The only thing I found was a small amount of dried blood on an ear and a belly full of fleas. That proceeding night I carefully collected it up and transferred it to the bathtub. It seemed to be regaining consciousness. Then it scrambled out of the tub and as I backed off it lept onto my leg...I thought, this was it. I'm about to get rabies. However it slumped onto my shin and slid down, obviously still hurt. At that point I swaddled it in a blanket then walked half a mile into the woods nearby and set it loose. The poor thing stood on shakey legs then crawled into some blackberries. It was a one off moment. I don't recommend it. I just didn't have anyone to contact at the time and felt it was the best thing to do.

I once found a blackbird fledgling (back when I didn't know what a fledgling was, I just knew it wasn't an adult yet) on my way home from school, which was 2 towns over. I carefully scooped it up and put it in my bicycle basket and took it home to call a rehabilitation center for help. I knew it was very dangerous for it to stay there since I found it open and exposed on the sidewalk with only very thin bushes near. When I called the center, I was told to put it back near some foliage and I did. Sadly, a few days later, I found a dead bird that had been ran over by a car. I really hope that wasn't the bird I found.

XxGigifabulousxX I don't know about other places, but in Australia it can take 40 minutes to drive to the closest town. According to the gps on the iPhone, it would take 6 hours to walk from my school to my house, both of which are on the side of town closest to each other.

Found a baby fledgling today that crashed into the window. I wish I would have found this video before hand, as I have done it completely wrong!! I caught it and put it into a box with no light and has holes. I put seeded bread and a small bowl of water. After about 45 minutes after it had calmed down, we put it into the tall grass in a field. There were other small birds it's kind, but I was a little confused on what to do. Thanks for this video. It will be handy for future reference! 🐤
I have a lost/abandoned baby fledgling bird which is not injured or sick. (We watched it for an hour (from a distance) and no parents feeding it....and it was very near a busy street which it hopped across).
It is very energetic so far, but it is not gaping for food, so I cannot feed it now since yesterday. It's still energetic, but again not gaping. I tried touching it's beak and also gently stroking its head, (as someone mentioned in another video), but no luck so far.
Can you offer any suggestions how to encourage it. Thank you very much.

I recently had a learning experience with wood duck ducklings in particular. I work across the street from a park and one day someone from the park came in, handed me a duckling, and said that it was all alone. I knew what to do in the case of fledglings and nestlings, but I thought maybe ducks are different, so I decided to make some calls.
The first wildlife rehaber I called gave me....not great advice. She said to find the nearest pond and drop the baby off with any mom with ducklings I see. If I had no luck, I was to find someone who raises chickens to adopt it. The next person I talked to (an ornithologist) told me something different. (In the rehaber's defense, when I talked to her I didn't yet know what KIND of duck it was. Though she probably should've asked). By the time I called the ornithologist I had identified the duckling as a wood duck.
The ornithologist told me that the duckling never should've been taken out of the park in the first place. Wood hens will call/look for their babies for up to a couple of hours. Additionally, wood ducks don't do well in captivity. Most ducklings die within 24 hours because they won't eat. She said all I could do was put it back and hope for the best. She said its chances were slim, but they were slim from the time it hatched, as only 2 of 8 ducklings make it to adulthood. So that's what I did, I picked a spot in the park away from people and left. I don't know how it went. But he was a little go-getter, so I like to think that maybe he found his mama.

Wood ducks are frequently kept in captivity, should have listened to the first person. Duckling crumbles or chick starter and a heat lamp from a local feed store should have worked fine... Or doing what the first person said.
Well I'm sitting in my room.and I hear chirping and whistling from inside of my wall. Been like that for a couple of weeks. The other side on my wall of my room outside so dont worry.

I just found 4 baby birds this morning (fledgling) 😊..it's raining so i found them tucked in a not so deep corner near my fence in my yard. I'll just leave them alone like you've advised. I only placed a glass sheet over them to prevent heavy splashes of water. I also noticed their mum in the trees around. I hope they find strength and fly away 🙏. I'm still watching and observing. hi i need help and i cant seem to find an answer online so theres a birds nest in one of my trees and there were 2 eggs of a cardinal and one of them hatched and as soon as that one hatched the mom and dad stopped sitting on the other one i know it may mean that it will not hatch but it has been several days and the egg has not been tossed out of the nest though some people say they dont do that i want to know if i can get the mom bird to sit on the egg
ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED! We found a baby bird on the back of my brother inaws truck and we were out in town so we have no idea where it came from... it barely has its eyes opened and has some feathers but its balance isn't good .. it was very hungry obviously since it was cutting up and holding its mouth open so we looked up advice and fed it , were trying to keep it warm and it seems so content unlike the way it was found.. what should we do? Im thinking set it free after a day or so but don't wanna do more harm than good and we have no idea where the parents are..
I found a fledging in our garden. He's been chirping constantly and the parents are nowhere in sight. It got dark and the chirping continued so I just got him in because there are many cats around our locality. Pretty sure they would've eaten him. Will release him tomorrow morning.

Ah well...just minutes ago my cat brought a baby bird that hasn't even open it's eyes or mouth yet and it's wounded a little. And it's nighttime sooo don't really know where it's nest is. And ya know since it's quarantine I don't know if they are open or if there even is a vet nearby.
Hello, I found a baby pigeon, looks like a nestling. I’ve left the bird out for it’s mom and it’s mom hasn’t come back all day. It looks like it’s gasping for air by the way it is breathing (it fell from 2 stories so I’m sure he may be hurt)
We don’t really have rehab centers here that have been willing to help us ( there’s alot of pigeons by us so we’ve rehabilitated about 4 so far, never so small tho.
I’m considering giving him water or milk ( boiled and cooled) it’s been a very hot day. What do you guys think ?

What would you do if it is a fledgling you have found and you found it because there is a cat stalking it....But the cat isn't yours and you don't know who it belongs to?
Let something something fall on the cat. Scoop the cat up gently. Place it on a nearby street. Leave the area as not to aleart the owners. It's a myth that the owners can smell your scent on the cat.
Cheep Cheep cats kill billions of birds every year and some birds have gone extinct so no shoo the cat away

Same same same.. a neighbour's cat attacjed a nest in my back yard (or my garden as we call it in the UK). So how can i leave them on the ground while the cat is always around. I cant do anything with the cat and i can not prevent her from being in my back yard.
Okay, so I found a nest yesterday in my driveway on the plants I own. There are 2 unhatched eggs.
Today, I heard chirping and found a nestling on my driveway, so since I remembered there was a nest, I assumed it was from there.
The plant I own has quite a height, so I put it in without looking. Came back to check on the nest, there was still 2 unhatched eggs and 1 nestling.
I may have accidentally put the wrong chick in the wrong nest.
I cant find another nest in my driveway.
Was wondering if birds tend to adopt?
Or should I just take it out and make a makeshift nest where I found it from. Thanks
I found what i think is a juvenile chickadee l would have but him away but he was in some of my dad's like leftover fuel stuff and he was all oily,so i washed him off and he loves the hairdryer. Anways how do i take care of him if i don't have a wildlife rehabilitation thing?

I would love for there to be one on kittens so people learn the difference between kittens that are in distress or kittens that people found that are being cared for by a great mom who has gone hunting for food and will be back for them. People think they should pick up every baby they find but it’s more difficult to raise orphans and if they’re taken the the pound they’re usually euthanized within a day of arrival.
Gone hunting for fledglings you mean? Cats don't belong in nature so if people find a stray cat it should be taken to some place where it can't hurt any more birdies!
I'm sorry, cats don't belong in nature? they belong in space then? I'm glad there are cats that keep the pigeon population in check and also mouses... Birds aren't more important than cats. They are food. what about those poor insects and worms they eat, should we shoo the birds away?
I think what he means is that house cats kill way too many birds and have caused many native species to go extinct. It really is better to keep them as indoor cats. Birds are not more important than cats, but when you got a non-native species that is killing off tons of native ones, then you gotta do something about it and not just pretend that it's okay.
And please don't try to misunderstand what people mean when they say stuff like this. You might have a bias for cats, but native bird populations have been seriously hurt by them. Keep them indoors.

I found two fledglings, one was under my dad's car and the other was on the ground. I thought they were harmed for a fall and put them in a box afraid other predators will find them and eat them but it's reliving that they are just learning how to fly. Now I'll just leave them were I last saw them, hopefully their mom can see them.
I found a fledgling on the road today, it was getting pushed around by cars and dogs.. sooo… I picked it up and brought it home, it’s freezing outside and the bird was cold and shivering. I placed it in a box with some newspaper and a heated sock. I decided to wait a bit and see if it can fly after being warm and calm. Any advice if I can’t get it to fly? How do I take care of it?

So If I walked away from this fledgling bird I’m pretty sure these stray cats were going to scoop it up. So what do I do now since I took it inside my home into a bird cage we have, I fed her and she’s handling eating well as long as I drop a small piece of worm from my fishing bait.
I want to know if it’s likely to die if I continue this process of feeding her? Any help I can get greatly appreciate it

There is a nest near me but one baby has eyes closed though others are open. It looks greenish so should I take it and clean it the eyes then return it

Word. I loathe people who believe that their cats should be free to roam, that somehow keeping them inside is being cruel. Cats are not a natural part of the environment - they have been subjected to artificial selection, and are exactly as humans made them (though they retain elements of their natural instinct, elements that were not bred out of them because humans used/use them for pest control). They DO NOT BELONG on their own, wandering the streets. Billions of animals worldwide are killed by "outdoor cats" annually. It's not the cat's fault - they're doing exactly what their instinct is telling them to. *It is people's fault.* I support any legislation anywhere that makes it a crime to let cats wander outside without leashes or supervision. Dogs are already banned from doing this - why should cats be any different? And yet this exception to the rules of pet ownership is carved out in so many cities/municipalities. It's ridiculous, and it needs to stop.
I found a baby bird and there are no wildlife rehabilators in my area, i drove for 2 hours trying to find one..i am now caring for the bird but want to put it back in the wild when it becomes a fledging. How do I lnow if its ready and should i put bird seeed or other food out for it?? Please let me know....we want to help it survive and would appreciate your advice.
Just found a nestling in my yard, I think I see the nest in a nearby tree but I can't climb and the branches are thin, right now I'm just taking care of it but it's wanting food and I don't know what I'm doing. I have Two Fledlings and one nestling one Fleding was dead when i found it, they all are from different nest but the problem is both of the nest are im impossible place for a human to reach and i have to feed them with a syringe but i still don't think they will survive without their mothers. the living Fledling also has a damaged eye and a wing, the nestling seems to be healthy, there are no animal rescue centers near us and we are quarantined, any suggestion would be very very helpful. please reply.

@@gracesmith5465 I grabbed some ants from my backyard and fed them with the help of tweezers, later i fed them with some flour mixed in water (Don't feed them this too much), My Fledling died but my nestling survived and i managed to put it back in the nest after 2 days of caring.

I found a baby bird with a leg that isn't working right and so it limped I look up at the tree and there was nothing there (I looked everywhere I swear). I didn't know what to do. He let me touch him but i'm not to sure if he "let" me. So I put him in a closed deck that has a fence and very small holes (this was in my basement ofc). We gave it some bird food and water and it's just chilling there. did I do anything wrong?

I found lil bird on the ground, I didn’t have any way, I had to take care of her cus car might hit her, or cat or smthing might eat her and I couldn’t find any nest around this bird, so I decided to keep her. I have several sparrow nests in my yard. My cat was attacking a fledgling sparrow and I stopped her. I think the fledgling was injured or maybe traumatized because it just stay in one place. I left the sparrow alone and it try to fly but end up in the drain 😩. I used a hanger and helped the fledgling out, i put him in one of the nest which is the easiest to reach. What if i put him in a wrong nest, will the other sparrow living there will attack him? Will he die of starvation?
